There is great parking in the back but had to circle around to find it. It is easy to miss but signs point you in the right direction. I was taken to a room and was asked about how much pressure was ok. I also had to fill out paperwork since this was my first time. The ambiance was great with soothing music. If you have cancer and want a massage from RelaxStation, call before booking to make sure the massage therapist will treat people with cancer. I've been there several times since my diagnosis,, through treatment, and after I finished treatment in August. I've had really good experiences with different therapists, and they all knew I have cancer. The therapist today refused to treat me. She didn't ask what kind of cancer, where I was in my journey, etc. It was very discouraging. I'm disappointed and very sad. I spoke with a manager in one of the treatment rooms. She apologized but blocked the door from me leaving when I said that I feel discriminated against. She said it's not that kind of place. He has been caring for my whole person and has offered advice on stretching, workstation advice, and meditative breathing. I want to begin by saying they had absolutely amazing customer service from every person I came in contact with. The receptionist (which I wish I had got her name) was beyond helpful! I made an appointment online that didn't go through, but she did everything in her power to get me the massages I wanted at the time I had chosen originally and she did! No problem no hassle. She even had another staff (his name is Jack) walk me over to the private rooms and even in the short period of time we were together he was so kind and funny. Lastly and certainly not least THOMAS! I have severe chronic pain, and I deal with a lot of cramping and muscle spasms, so when my Mom got me a gift certificate for RelaxStation, I was SO excited--I had been there before to their other location for shorter massages and the experience was always absolutely wonderful. So, I made the appointment for my birthday, and I chose someone named Thomas to give me my massage--I have had hit or miss experiences with female masseuses because I need a lot of pressure, and usually guys have stronger hands and can give really good deep tissue massage. So, first off, I was running about five minutes late because of a minor backup on the street I was driving down, so I called and apologized and said I would be a little late, ten minutes at the max. Brandon, the front desk associate, was very nice about it and thanked me for calling ahead. When I finally got there and got signed in and all, Thomas came into the waiting area and greeted me, and walked me back to the room. We discussed the health issues I had mentioned and areas it would help to focus on, and then he left so I could get undressed to my comfort level and get on the table. Then, he came back in and got started. Y'all, it was the best massage I have EVER had in my entire LIFE. Thomas was very careful to pay attention to any cues I gave about pressure, focused on all the areas where I really needed help, and made me feel completely comfortable and safe the entire time. Thomas was also very conversational--now, some people chat with you and it feels awkward at moments, right? Not Thomas. He was so chill and down to earth, it was like getting a deep tissue massage from someone who was my best friend who really cared about what I had to say. We chatted about our pets and shows we like and even got a little deep discussing things about family and other more intense/interesting topics. The entire time, I was relaxed and having an amazing time--when we got wrapped up and I got ready to leave, he had a few suggestions for stretches I could do and mentioned a massage product he likes to use for neck pain/tension, which I really appreciated because I store a lot of tension in my neck. The entire process was amazing experience, and I would recommend RelaxStation AND Thomas to anyone. When I left, I felt so de-stressed and light, it was like I was floating. I should have taken my own advice. The trick here is to find one specific great therapist and stick with them. There are a few specific ones that I know and can rely upon. I found myself in a pinch and a few times have decided to take a chance with a massage therapist I didn't know. Both of those massages weren't necessarily bad, but my same knots came back very quickly after -- it seems like really skilled massage therapists can usually give you a massage that "sticks" for more than 12-24 hours. So, take the time to find people that do work for you, and go back to them. Otherwise, the multitude of therapists means that your experience will most definitely vary widely from time to time. read more

I booked a massage at what I thought was the table massage location, Phoenix West. When I arrived, I was roomed and they confirmed my 60-minute massage. About 40 minutes into the massage, there was a loud knock on the door with an incredibly rude woman on the other side saying that I needed to get dressed and get out because I was apparently at the wrong location. They then charged me for a 45-minute massage, without any apology or remorse, leaving me feeling embarrassed and confused. Bottom line: This was the most UNrelaxing massage experience I've ever had, and I do not recommend anyone spending their hard earned money there. read more

When I think about what I would do if I had tons-o-$$$, getting a regular message is very, very high on the list. For as constantly tense as my upper back and shoulders are, you would think I'd be making even the occasional message more of a priority, but--alas. It is not so. I had been itching (or aching?) to make a visit to Relaxstation for a long time. Decent prices and I can just pop right in for a half hour message? Sign a sister up! So, on a recent Monday when I was sitting at home with a wicked headache I thought, "Hey! Relaxstation--let's do this." Upon arrival, I was mildly disappointed that they were playing Bob Marley--not that I have anything against "Bob", but it was just kind of distracting and not very relaxing. Something more instrumental or nature sound-y would have been nice (that is the only time I think I've ever voiced a preference for such music.) I stopped in without an appointment and they were able to fit me in in 15 minutes--not bad! I sat outside in their little patio area, which was nice. The massage itself was pretty good and felt really long and involved, which was awesome. I don't think I'd ever need or want to do much more than 30 minutes, to be honest. I felt like I was getting my money's worth. Again, though--not totally relaxing. You're packed in a room with several other people, Bob Marley's jamming away and the bright sun and traffic noise infiltrated everything. Ultimately, any relief I felt from the message was very short lived and I fell right back to my tense old self about 10 minutes later. I think this is probably due to my own issues than any lack of skill or competence on the therapist's part. With tip I spent 38 bucks, which is a little steep for something I came away feeling pretty ambivalent about. I think next time I'll just spring for something a bit pricier and enjoy total peace and quiet. All in all, though? Very nice people and if you can take the time to find the best therapist for you, as Mariah suggested, this could be a great weekly or semi-weekly thing without breaking the bank. read more

I had a gift card for a 60 minute massage my husband had purchased for me... I used the certificate intently, reading reviews on Yelp to find a great massause who would provide a GREAT massage.... Well Derry's name came up a few times and thought I'd give this person a try: Derry is awesome and thorough body therapist. I wouldn't recommend anyone else. I had been to RS several times before but the body therapists at this place are sorta lame. Maybe its just my athletic body that needs some extra care but seriously, this place is over rated...... COMPLAINT: After my husband spent $60 on my gift certificate for my massage, when it was time to pay I presented said gift card. The card had a little sticker on it that said $55 and the person at the front desk made me pay an extra $5 on top of the ALREADY PAID for $60 gift card. I though that was really bad customer service. This place really is one of a kind. Here are my reasons for loving and recommending Relaxstation: 1. It's very reasonably priced and they are always having special discounts on various services 2. The atmosphere is great! It offers super friendly chilled out vibes, great reggae and jazz music, and the therapists are more often laughing than frowning. 3. The variety of services: if I am tight on cash I'll stop in for a 20 minute back massage in the main room. If I want something a little more private, I schedule an hour long massage in one of the private rooms they have in the building next door. The private rooms are gorgeous and spacious. 4. All of their products are organic and smell delicious. 5. It's just so darn cute! I mean, how many other massage places do you see in an old stucco gas station with a charming garden in which fairies probably live? Word to the wise: you might want to schedule ahead because sometimes I'll stop by on a Friday afternoon and they are totally booked up. read more

I totally agree with the previous reviewers about it depends on who you get in terms of massage satisfaction. I have had massages in many different locales and many different styles and therapists. I have been to jimjilbangs and rooms with waterfall, etc. I have to say that by far, Liz and Cathy at the Relax Station are THE BEST I've had anywhere. Both have a great sense of pressures, areas that need extra attention. They take their time and create a very calm atmosphere for their clients (no unnecessary chattiness). I guarantee if you see either of these therapists, you will not be disappointed. Well worth the $. I definitely think that regular massages should be a part of a national health care plan. read more

It's all about privacy in the annex location two doors down or traffic and yapping in the common space building. We chose the latter. After checking online as to walk in availability, to we walked in only to find that the therapists listed online as "available" were nowhere to be found. This was at 11am on a Saturday. We scheduled for noon and returned then. Therapists trickled in opening the doors and blasting freezing winter air onto semi clad folk on the tightly packed tables. Yes, you can hear everyone's psychobabbling, groaning and sneezing. Your head is literally three feet from the next table. Chris worked me over; twas a good 45 minutes. Nothing special, yet still good. Next time, I'll spring for the annex (about 10 bucks more) where I know that no one walking down Huron on the sidewalk can see the freckles on my head, so close you are to the windows on three sides and sidewalks on two. It is small inside and waiting room is oddly tucked away in a back corridor that empties into the main office. read more

I did a walk-in foot reflexology treatment and had Derry; it was awesome--my feet and I felt blissed out for the next couple hours--I left feeling changed physically, my body stress had melted away. At the beginning I told Derry that my feet hurt when I walk around my wood floors; he asked where, and I couldn't really name where,,,until he tapped right into the spots, and began working them. I asked him to go a bit lighter on the pressure and he adjusted perfectly. I have had lots of different massages and sometimes have to ask several times to get to the right pressure for me, and Derry tuned in and got it perfect. They also sell cool products to pamper our bodies with It's conveniently located in the heart of Downtown Ann Arbor with free parking on the premises. My wife received a gift card for a massage and booked an hour appointment for a couples massage but they only gave us a half hour and did not tell us until it was over. I was looking forward to it and expected a quiet and relaxing environment in a private room. Unfortunately there is only one room, it's full of people and a lot of light. There is no quiet music and it was full of other people including a woman who sounded like she was having an intimate relationship with her therapist next to me (oh my god, wow, your amazing- to quote a few things she said and not quietly). Not only could I not relax but I felt extremely uncomfortable. After a 1/2 hr the woman who worked on me said she was done, got me a glass of water and scurried out the door- not a word about how my massage was or anything. She was good but she worked on scratching/massaging my head for 15 of the 30 minutes . No lower body, just my back and shoulders. My wife on the other hand received the complete body massage. My wife tipped them 30% (since that was what was left on the card and we won't be back.) Again both the therapists were good but the ambience was not. If you're looking for quiet and relaxing - keep looking. read more

My husband, daughter and I each splurged for 60-minute massages today. We've had hectic schedules lately and decided to give the Relax Station a try. This will certainly be the last visit. What I needed most was to relax. This place is not relaxing. We were given old t-shirts to wear (with the backs cut open) and very little guidance as to where to put our shoes (had to ask) or if we wanted water or what oil scent we'd prefer. There was little to no communication about how firm we liked the pressure or if they should know anything about us. Then, it got worse. There are 5 tables in this tiny place. The last thing I want to hear is someone blabbing away about their memory of nausea years ago during pregnancy. But there she was talking away about how she threw up constantly and how she ended up managing her vomiting, etc. This client talked VERY loudly the whole session and there was NO way to escape hearing her loud voice while I was paying money in an attempt to RELAX. This is not a hair salon. There are signs hanging saying no cell phone service but no policy to be quiet while others are trying to relax. It's very strange. We'd much rather pay slightly more and have a professional massage in a nice, quiet, RELAXING place. read more

I will qualify this review by saying that I've only been here a handful of times and usually had (I think his name was...) Derry. Derry does not mess around. If you ask Derry to break up the knots in your neck, he will break those mothereffers up. And yes, it might hurt a little, but that dude makes more progress on my totally screwed up muscles in 20 minutes than most massage therapists do in an hour. Most massages I've had have felt lovely but essentially done nothing to actually undo the knots- mine are bad enough that you really can't make progress on them without putting some serious elbow grease in it. The massages I get here are like the ones I used to get in PT, where they'd end it with "You're gonna want to ice that." In case it isn't clear, I consider this a good thing. The other therapist I've had was a youngish woman, I have no idea what her name was... that massage was enjoyable too, but more gentle. It is a wee bit bizarre to have a massage in a room with other people, and there are downsides to clothed massages (friction can HURT in certain sorts of shirts, plus you're likely to have your clothes stretched out and get a bit of lotion on them- I recommend layering and wearing a tank top.) Wear your hair up if you don't want any lotion in it (but that goes for all massages.) read more

Unfortunately the employee I was assigned was not just bad, I'd say he was incompetent. I generally get deep tissue massages though I've had other types too. I would not characterize this as a massage - or a masseur -- at all. He halfheartedly sort of pushed at my back and neck, then would occasionally (& painfully) dig a single thumb into random spots on my ribs etc with no apparent reason from a musculature perspective -- he really did seem to be making it up as he went along. When he started doing karate chop moves (not corresponding to any actual muscles) ala James Bond flicks I almost laughed. But I was paying for this disaster. I don't think he was trained in any way and while I'm sure some of their team are competent, I question their hiring practices if they let such a bad egg in. Will never, ever return. read more

A place where I can walk right in, plop down a $20 bill, and get a 20 minute massage? I'm there. I love that you don't have to buy whole hours, which can get pretty expensive, and I honestly don't love laying on a table for a whole hour. If I'm busy and just want to pop in for a little relaxation in my day, I can do that. I prefer their seated massage, again, not a huge fan of laying on the table, so I like this place.
