Bloom is one of the cutesy gift shops situated along Main Street in Newark. It's small and set a bit off the road, so it could be possible to walk right by. Fortunately, it caught my eye and I walked over. The interior is filled with loads of nice gifts -- rings, earrings, bracelets, socks, and plenty of specialty items. Most are on the more expensive side, but I was able to find a pretty bracelet to gift that was only about $30. They wrapped it up nicely as well. One thing that was slightly bothersome was that I couldn't browse in peace for even a second. The friendly ladies working talked nonstop and followed me around as I browsed. I prefer to look at my own pace, personally, and even said I needed to think about what I wanted to select but they didn't really back off. So keep in mind it's that type of store. Bloom is my favorite store, i love all of their quirky stylish options for jewelry, clothing, and gifts! They do a really good job at fitting me as a petite but also have options for other body types. I really like that if you want to see things in the store when they weren't open because of COVID, they offered online purchase opportunities and delivery. It was great that they made my favorite store more accessible. My favorite place to get gifts for my mom or friends for Christmas and Mother's Day. Also really great because one time i bought a shirt that didn't fit right when i got home and they were happy to exchange it for my right size or help me find something even better! Bloom is a true Delaware treasure! From a gorgeous assortment of handmade designer jewelry and clothing to unique and quirky gift finds including skincare, candles, and books - you will find things here you won't get anywhere else. I absolutely ADORE this store. The customer service is so stellar, all of the staff is so kind and bends over backwards to help with everything while managing to still give me my space. I'm easily overwhelmed and bloom always manages to make me feel like royalty when I'm there. I also really appreciate the store policy being so wonderful and posted so visibly, as I am constantly buying the wrong gift size or color and at bloom I'm so lucky to be able to return and exchange in such a great time frame. 10/10 would give it 20 stars if I could. I wanted to like the cutesy shop located just off the beaten path...the sales people are nice. However, I always feel like my every move is being watched. I like to take my time and look at things. I can't do that at this store. I have been in there 2x and both times, the sales associates followed me around almost relentlessly. It was very uncomfortable. I was really excited for my first trip to Bloom after I received a cute birthday gift from a friend, unfortunately, I will never go back. First, if I am going to be spending $100+ on a t-shirt I would hope to not be trying it on in a cramped bathroom where the toilet is broken. Second, if it is asked of you if you would price match an item that was significantly marked up (based on the designer's site) when it is found to be $30 less expensive, a proper sales associate or as the owner of the shop could just respond with a yes or no answer vs. lecturing about how coats at the shop sell out every year. Additionally, what happened to the 'customer is always right'? We were scolded and told that we were wrong and that the jacket was not the same. Thank you, I have a college education and retail experience, I am more than capable of matching the sku's and designer. Third, when my friends and I are having a conversation about necklaces, I would not think that it would be appropriate to interrupt when you were not invited into the conversation to tell us that you had the necklace from the designer before South Moon Under. I bought the necklace 5 years ago and am sure the designer or similar necklaces exist at places of business other than yours. I would prefer to purchase this at South Moon Under based on the customer experience and service level vs. Bloom any day of the week. If I could give this 0 stars, I would. read more

Bloom is one of my favorite small businesses in Delaware, with a location on U of D campus in Newark and in Trolley Square in Wilmington. Both spaces are unique and eclectic, and a plethora of gifts, clothing, jewelry, you name it. It's a great place to get a gift for a friend/family member as they have really unique items that you can't really find anywhere else, and their clothing and jewelry is gorgeous, so I always have something to get for myself :) The staff is super friendly and engaging which I love. Isn't that why we support small businesses? If I wanted to shop in silence with no customer service I'd stay home... They are also more than accommodating when it comes to sizes, gift ideas etc. and are always willing to help you find the perfect thing for either yourself or a friend whether it be a dress for an event or a small hostess gift. Bloom has some very cool, unique items for sale. The jewelry is fun and the store is very packed with products. However, the store is small and having packed makes it very difficult to even walk through with even a couple of customers. Although the products are cool, they are very overpriced. Many of these items are handmade but similar handmade items are available on etsy, which are more reasonably priced. read more

Bloom offers a unique shopping experience unequaled in Delaware! There's seriously the best selection of jewelry and clothes. My favorite thing is the clear sense of point of view that the buyer has and it shows in the adorable handmade accessories, witty sarcastic books, and indie brands. Everything is an experience here from the floral fragrance to the awesome music playing. Even the window displays have an attitude and personality. Bloom, the most eclectic, and fun boutique I've encountered in Delaware. This neat little gem lies within walking distance from the University of Delaware, and offers a beautiful array of hand picked clothing, one of a kind jewelry, and lovely gifts. Do not be deceived by the shiny things in this store! This place is a rip off. Bloom is over priced, has pushy sales people and terrible customer service. I bought an expensive ring here only to find that it changed color the very next day. When I went to return the defective ring they would not give me my money back. One girl tried to clean it with a silver cleaner and actually made it worse. Unfortunately I will not be returning to this store and will not recommend it to anyone. Next time I'm going across the street to Grassroots, who has great customer service and a fair return policy. read more

I have a $32 credit so I will return to this store to use it. I bought a scarf 24 hours ago and asked the owner why her scarves were $10 more expensive than similar scarves (actually bigger and better quality scarves) found in shops across the street and next door. The response was that her products were made in the US and so supporting American workers cost her more. I did not check the label and purchased the scarf, as I do think that buying American is a good thing and I took the scarf home and compared it to another one that I purchased for $10 less-- the scarf from Bloom did not compare well in quality, size or colors. And the label said clearly that it was made in CHINA! I decided to return the scarf and again was disappointed to learn that the store will not reimburse customers for merchandise purchased and returned within 24 hours with sales receipt. My only option was to take a $32 credit for use in the store. I hate to write a negative review but "geese" their interactions with customers are unethical...they have some interesting items but all shoved into a much too tiny space...
