This is my go to place when things go wrong they get you in and they get you out. They listen to…read morewhat you say. I would recommend it to everyone.

This ED visit was not a typical emergency. I needed an MRI of my head and it was an…read moreemergency/urgent but I wasn't bleeding, nothing was broken, it wasn't cardiac event, and I had no symptoms so not a visible typical "emergency." From the moment I went to check-in at around 11:00 am I had a bad feeling about the whole situation. First they told me I needed an appointment, and sent me to another area. Then the man there took me back to check in. Then the woman at ED check in didn't know why my dr sent me, then finally said if I needed an MRI they couldn't use the order from my doctor because she's not a Beebe doctor and to get an MRI I had to have a Beebe doctor order so I'd have to go through ED. This made no sense because my Dr was an ophthalmologist and had scanned my eyes for the diagnosis and had the scans! When I was in triage the man I spoke to had an "attitude" and kept asking me questions that could have been easily answered by the order in my purse, that said he couldn't use so he didn't or wouldn't look at it. I even looked up the address for my Dr for him on my phone because he wanted the route number not the street address! And looked up papilledema to explain why the MRI was so urgent. It went downhill from there...I was on a gurney in a hall in the ED for FIVE HOURS. Only treated kindly by the woman who checked me in and the phlebotomist. Dr Gallagher came over told me his name and asked why I needed an MRI so quickly. I showed him the order and I told him it was papilledema (swelling of optic nerves caused by increased intracranial pressure) he took the referral order from me and left. That was it. (I hadn't planned properly and didn't know I'd need an emergency MRI when I left for my eye Dr appointment in the morning so I hadn't had anything to eat or drink and hadn't used the bathroom since 6am) There was no contact by any hospital personnel at all for 2.5 hours (around 2:00pm) and I needed to go to the bathroom. I took my monitor off and ran to the bathroom. Then I stood at the counter that all the medical personnel gathered behind and asked if I could have some water. A male dr/nurse/np/intern? said he'd have to check with Dr Gallagher. Then nothing. Finally I walked over to Dr Gallagher, who was behind a counter using a computer and asked him if I could get some water or go buy a bottle of water. He told me I couldn't leave with an iv port in my hand. He motioned with his hand toward the other people behind the counter and said tell them to get it. Another man who gave me an 8 oz bottle of water and hooked me back up to the BP and heart rate monitor said we don't encourage patients to unhook themselves. To which I responded it was better than urinating on myself and the gurney. After that I had to "hold it" until I was discharged at 4:15. None of the few personnel who walked by looked at me. One patient who was there kept calling out "hello, hello" and a woman dr/nurse/np? kept calling back "goodbye" so I was hesitant to call out for anyone. In the meantime they were done with the immediate emergencies and were goofing around, looking at their phones, basically hanging out, and while they were ordering lunches one female said "oh that man had what "John Doe" (I'm not using the real name she used) but John Doe died. Honestly I needed MRI or I would've walked out. I was finally taken to get the MRI and put back in the ED hallway. When I was "checked out" the woman who gave me my paperwork said "oh you're lucky you had the MRI when you did because after 4:00 OR 5:00 pm they only do MRIs on people that had a stroke." When I walked out another woman was in the waiting room and said she needed an MRI. She had an order from her Dr for an MRI and they accepted it. She didn't have to go through the ED! She and her husband had been there a while, he was going to the check in area to ask how much longer it would be. And I relayed the 4:00/5:00 pm cut off time and they were shocked. Just then the MRI department orderly appeared with a wheelchair to get her. The experience I had is unacceptable treatment to a patient who had a serious issue that no one could see but was still there and still a patient of the hospital. And don't try calling the patient advocates because they won't call you back.
