Oh my god, as soon as you walk in it smells like homeless people sleep on the couches in the lobby. It was literally nauseating. As an owner, how do you not smell that when you walk in?!? If your hygiene is that terrible, it's scary to think about tattoo procedures. I just walked in about 10 min ago. No one was at the desk. I said "hello" a few times, no one answered. So I left. But I don't think I would have stayed anyway due to the horrible smell. read more

I walked into this place. And the first thing that hit me was, it looked more like a cross between an old surf shop, and a head shop. Very simalar to the shops o. The old Hill st. In the town of Oceanside where i grew up. As i was Talking to a friend the other day, it made me want another tattoo. So I got in my car, and drove to the Sugar Shack. I'd never been there, but it's close to my home. I went there, and I talked to a nice enough guy named Dallas, I told him what I wanted, and he asked me if I'd mind making an appointment for the next day. We agreed on something that I wanted Via text and pictures. I arrived a bit early, and realized I forgot to charge my phone. Dallas has a few different phones, and lent me the one for my phone. As I sat in the waiting room, I charged my phone, and listened to the banter between him and the other customers there. There was a lot of laughing and the other artist there would occasionally add his 2 cents. I thought to myself that this place was pretty cool. It was really clean, organized and friendly. I asked about a restroom, and was told it was in the back. When I walked in. To my pleasant surprise it was immaculately clean. In my opinion a clean restroom is as important in a tattoo parlor as are the artists guns and rooms. So as I sat at ease that this place was clean, Dallas worked on the final details of my tattoo. After a couple of adjustments we agreed on the final rendering. I went back to his work area, and we started. This kid can't be more that 20 or 21 but his work is pretty good. He was able to give me exactly what it was that I wanted. It turned out to be really good work, and that even though it was in the top of my hand, it wasn't nearly as painful as I thought it would be. About an hour and a half later, my ink was done. After showing a few of my friends my new work, they agreed that he did a really good job. I already know a couple of guys that have asked for an appointment with Dallas. I say, if you want some good artwork or you need a touch up, go see this kid. I'm positive with his skills, he or his partner will be able to hook you up. It looks like the Sugar Shack will be the place I go to to complete the sleeves on both arms. read more
