I absolutely adore this blow bar location and everyone who works there! I've been a member for a while now and I genuinely love it. The blow dry membership is totally worth it -- I get two blowouts a month, plus free perks and discounts on makeup services and everything else they offer. Every time I walk in, I know I'm going to leave feeling fabulous. I trust the team so much that I give them full creative freedom -- whether I describe a certain look or let them do their thing, they each add their own flair and twist that I love. She's done my makeup for everything from holiday parties to photo shoots, music festivals, concerts, and themed events. I've gone to this location a handful of times over the last few years when I've been in a pinch, and needed a blowout. Overall, this location is not clean nor do the employees seem approachable. However, I am typically able to get a decent blowout in 45-60 minutes which is ideal. My most recent experience was absolutely atrocious. I was paired with essentially an apprentice who was being coached by the owner on how to blow out my hair. When 60 minutes elapsed and my hair was not close to being finished, I flagged that I was expecting to be done in an hour. The owner was dismissive, disrespectful and directly told me it was my fault for booking online and not calling for an appointment. I was not sure why booking online had anything to do with the quality of my blowout. Another stylist attempted to get my blowout to an acceptable state, but 70 minutes had elapsed and I had to leave. I was told by that stylist that it would be taken care of, but then was charged $66 instead of the $55 advertised on their website. I will not return to a business where the owner lashes out at her customers and walks away from them mid conversation. Her attitude plus fraudulent charge makes me question the legitimacy of her business. read more

After a competitor blowout biz told me they were booked up on a recent Friday, I called this Blo location with 48 hours notice... and they were able to squeeze me in! Sierra was my stylist and she was super friendly and did a great job... I find getting a blow out makes such a difference in how I feel and my visit to Blow was no exception. I was visiting Austin for a friend's wedding and I usually go to Dry Bar for special occasions, but I waited too late and they were fully booked up. I looked online and found Blo, which I'd never heard of before but I was excited to see they also do makeup so I went ahead and booked both. Due to timing I had to book makeup first then hair which I was super wary about, but Abi did a great job of avoiding splashing my face and she gave me a little plastic shield to protect my makeup too. When I first sat down with Roxanne I was super intimidated because she asked me what kind of makeup I wanted and I was just like umm...there are different kinds...?? With zero judgment she chatted with me about what type of look I wanted and I showed her my dress and she recommended some colors to go well with it. I got so many compliments on my makeup both during and after the wedding that I'm a little offended because my friends clearly think (ok, they know) that I can't do my own makeup properly Abi was equally communicative and accommodating. We talked about how my super straight and very thick hair hates holding curls, and she made different suggestions and had a lot of ideas about how to make sure my hair would stay curled through the evening. Again I got tons and tons of compliments on my hair but this one I'm not even remotely offended by because it's absolutely true I don't know how to curl my own hair. The next morning I headed to Vegas, and my hair still had some very cute bounce to it! (Last pic). Don't mind the fact that the only pic I took with my makeup free face was at the Hello Kitty Café lol Unfortunately I looked it up and there aren't any Blo Bars near me but I'll have to keep this chain in mind for future events in other areas! My cousin and I had a fantastic "hair," experience at The Blow Out Bar recently, and it's all thanks to Wally and Sierra. They truly worked their magic on our hair! Both were not only super skilled but also had a great eye for what style would suit us best. They listened to our requests, offered professional advice, and the results were just amazing - left the place feeling like a million bucks! Wally and Sierra are STARS, and I'd definitely recommend asking for them. However, there's a bit of room for major improvement at the front desk. The receptionist wasn't so friendly; in fact she was kinda sour. We got there early and asked her directions to the nearest car wash. Something that we thought a local person would know if they were working and living in the area. She just responded a flat no, looked annoyed and went back to looking at the computer screen in front of her. We were stunned by her lack of wanting to engage. I suggest a lot more training or local knowledge could really help in providing a more rounded and helpful service to customers that are visiting town. Only giving it 3 stars as the front facing receptionist is the face of your brand and if that's not up to par then perhaps a professional training in customer service for the front desk receptionist would help turn this into a solid 5 star experience all around! read more

I came for a blow out and makeup for family photos and won't be returning. I got curled hair (with a curling iron) instead of an actual blow out. My hair looks flat in the photos when it normally doesn't. I would just rate it as ok. Makeup was terrible. I asked for a 'natural look' and to basically take away signs of aging and was given nothing even close. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got to the car. No contouring, minimal color correcting with concealer only, and took the wrong shade of foundation (and WAY TOO MUCH) and rubbed all over my face. Eyes were ok but I still feel like I was robbed of what I paid for professional makeup. When I walked in my house my kids and husband stared at me, my husband said I looked like a clown. I immediately washed it all off and rushed and redid it myself. I gave this feedback via their auto feedback message shortly after service (a few days ago) and never heard back from anyone which just furthers my disappointment in this business. read more

Poor customer service. I have thick and curly hair and I've been to many blow dry bar services, this was the first time the stylist complained about how much hair I have and what I wanted to do. I totally understand having to manage expectations for different hair types and situations, but that can be done with good customer service. I normally tip my stylist 50 to 80% of the cost because of my hair type and was very disappointed by this customer service. My hair ended up fine, but I wouldn't be back. Y'all. I suck at doing my own hair. I suck so bad that the extent to which I know how to do hair stops at fussing into a non-ironic side pony. When it came time to made the announcement about my pregnancy to friends in the social media world, my husband and I decided to take a picture in front of the ACL frame during the fest, holding up a onesie that said "Baby's First Music Festival" - we thought long and hard about it. And if you're anything like me, you'd also think long and hard about what to wear and how you were going to do your hair to commemorate such an event. Cut to, a friend recommending I do a blowout. I can't recall the gentleman's name who did my hair. Perhaps it's for the better. When I explained the occasion and location for the reason of my blowout, he apathetically tossed my hair to one side, as if to metaphorically push this appointment aside and said, "Yeahhh, nothing is going to stay if you're going to be outside." Basically, we were both doomed at this point. Like, he couldn't even suggest a braid or offer to use extra hairspray? I also mentioned my hair keeps a curl best with a flat iron. He proceeded to do a style that would have DEFINITELY sweated out in the October Austin heat. Afterward, he styled my hair with a curling wand, AFTER I mentioned my hair responds best to a flat iron. I mentioned it again, as he began to appear frustrated that the curls wouldn't take. Only then did he heed my advice. Once he was done botching my curls, he looked at my hair and said something to the extent of how my hair won't look good in a few hours since I'd be outside. I think what bothers me the most is that I can't be the only person who has come in for a blowout with the intention of being outside for a few hours. Outdoor weddings, anyone? I wasn't asking for big barreled curls to last for hours. I just wanted something nice for pictures and would have been happy with a cute braid. UPDATE: Changing this to 3 stars after the owner, Athena, reached out to apologize and offered to comp a future visit, and spoke with her employee. -- My wife is 34 weeks pregnant and booked a makeup appointment here for the day of our maternity shoot. Being so late in pregnancy, we are cautious with COVID exposure and requested when we booked to work with a makeup technician who would be comfortable wearing a mask. We were told that our tech would be given a note ahead of time, and that it wouldn't be a problem. We also followed up when we received our confirmation note to double check that this request had been received. When my partner arrived for her appointment, she was told that the makeup tech had "just seen" this note, did not want to wear a mask and would not because she was "not legally mandated to." We are left scrambling to find another service the day of our shoot, when we could have made alternate plans days ago had this business communicated with us. If you want to bring your politics to work, that's your business. It's not hard to communicate with your customers if you find yourself unable to comply with a reasonable request for accommodation. TLDR; I've been to this location MANY times and had a horrible experience on my most recent visit - I will not be returning ever again because of the extremely poor customer service and complete lack of decency I encountered from the manager. Outlining my experience: - I had an 8:15am appointment for a blow dry on Friday, and when I walked in, the manager told me she changed my stylist and was going to have the new employee do my hair for "practice" because it would be a "challenge" with my curly hair and that she would shadow her - I was kind enough to let the new girl practice on my hair even though I was in a hurry; It typically takes me 45 min to get my hair done. - 30 minutes into my blow dry, I received an urgent call that I had to take from a family member telling me my Aunt passed away (a 40-second call) - 30 minutes after that, I received another call (less than a minute) I had to take regarding the same matter. (My hair should've already been done at this point). However, this time when I hung up, the manager rudely told me to get off my phone because they were fully booked. - I was obviously upset because of the rude tone of the manager, but I let the girl finish my hair; the manager never came to check on us and never shadowed her - She finally finished my hair at 9:50am- it took an hour and a half, and it was not at all the beachy waves I asked for. There were still bumps and curls at my roots. I did not have any more time or energy to waste - I checked out, tipped my stylist even though I was unhappy with how it turned out, and turned to the manager to explain to her why I had to take the call. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she didn't mean to come off that way - I told her, "I've been to this location many times, I never use my phone, but this was an emergency because I found out that my Aunt died. I understand that you have a business to run, but I'd recommend leading with empathy because you don't know what someone might be going through," and her response was, "But we're fully booked today". That response told me everything I needed to know about this person and is exactly why I will not be visiting this location ever again. I'm in town for a work conference and thought a blowout before the next two days was my best move. I asked for tight curls with straight ends (I have long hair with extensions). She was going to use a straightener and I requested a curling iron because I feel like I know my hair.. she used an iron that was huge (I asked for 1 inch) and of course it did not give me the tight curls I asked for. When I got spun around, my curls were so light. I told her I asked for tight, then she told me "well I wanted to use the straightener" .. if she would of ensured me she can do tight curls with that, I wouldn't of had a problem at all. This is after I asked her not to wash my hair because we were in a time crunch and my curls don't hold with clean hair and she also disagreed w that and insisted I wash my hair. Needless to say, by the time I got to my photo shoot, you couldn't tell that we just spent money and time on a professional. Very disappointing. My daughter's hair also didn't last more than an hour but that's ok- they didn't use a lot of spray on her because she's young, which is fine. I just wanted her to have a nice experience. They called me 10 minutes before I was supposed to walk out the door to tell me they were canceling my appointment and did not have anyone to see me until 9:45 a.m. With a job interview at 9:45 that's not going to work so they completely screwed me over they did not care that I was in another city with no way to fix my hair and a interview appointment. I was a little skeptical and nervous about trying somewhere new on a day where pictures were going to be taken, but I thought "why not?" And just gave it a shot. I am extremely glad I did! So excited to have found this place. As an African American female who wears her hair naturally curly, sometimes I just want to have my hair straightened for date night or other special occasions. Blow drying/straightening my own hair has become difficult due to a back injury. So glad to have found this blow dry bar near work. I can pop in for a 45 min appt after scheduling online, or if I need to, just walk in during business hours. Sometimes, it's really inconvenient to go to a regular salon. I often get nervous that they'll be running behind and I'll be in there for 3 hours or they'll say I need a trim and I end up with an extreme haircut, or they'll try to sell me extra services that I don't want that particular day. Yes, it's easy to say no, but sometimes you don't want to deal with the hassle. I was taken on time, washed and conditioned well, and blown dry quickly with roller brushes. My stylist, Andy, even hit my ends with a light flat iron and dehumidifying spray. My hair is bouncing and behaving in this Austin, TX heat. For me, I just wrapped it and put some edge control on the temple areas and was good to go for work. And I'm so impressed with the price.
