I emailed the company for my Hunter Douglas blind service. The company didn't install my blind but since my original installer was busy, I found Blinds & Design. If you want a quicker response, I think emailing them is a better way (although they respond phone calls pretty fast too if you leave a message). They quickly sent a technician to my house took down my broken blind and also helped me to cover my windows from light. During the process of sending my blind to Hunter Douglas (since my blind was still under warranty), the company followed up with me constantly. With their service and support, I will definitely recommend them to my friends. I also will call them up for a blind and shade appointment since I am thinking about changing the design of my house. read more

Trust the 1 star reviews. The quality of the work was fine. But absolutely abysmal at communication and project managing the actual day of delivery and install - went months without letting me know directly on our email thread that there was a balance still due - and threatened to put a lien on our home. Ton of back and forth and miscommunication on the day of the install from the team. Had to take off work twice since it was delayed but they didn't notify me until the very last minute. At one point part of the delivery and install team told me they brought the wrong parts - but then later said that they did have them. It was a mess. Install goes fine - I go back to my office for the day happy it's just complete at this point. Around four months later I get an email threatening to put a lien on my house for not clearing the final balance. What. They will likely forget to mention that the final invoice with any partial or unpaid balance comes from a different company called Clover over a completely separate email. You'd think if there was an open balance after like a week or so that they would send an email on the literal only mode of comms we had used the whole time. Or worse-off send me a mail invoice because they obviously know the home address. Anyway I paid the invoice within like an hour of having them notify me on the original email thread and then searching "BLINDS" in my email account to find it. The work is fine - but you can very very likely get the same quality from a team that is much more professional and well organized. read more

Since my initial purchase, I have used them for minor repairs and replacements for our Hunter Douglas blinds. I worked with Libni in Operations and he provided me the best service one could expect. I called Blinds & Designs to inquire about a duvet shade that was coming unglued. I spoke with Libni on the phone and the next day he called to tell me that Hunter Douglas had approved a replacement. He stated that he would have it installed at no charge since the shade now has a new bracket which would require the installer to drill new holes into the window frame. Every conversation I had with Libni was pleasant, considerate and accommodative. He took the time to look at our defective shade, kept me posted by email as to the status of the delivery and arranged to have Hunter Douglas provide us with a replacement. I don't review companies typically but I wanted to post this to save future buyers. It's hard to believe that jobs take nearly two years to complete... see email pictures for timeline DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY. The short version: Missed appointments. Wrong products shipped. Timelines missed. They used my condo to store equipment. I have been working to get my two bedroom condo project completed since mid 2022 (it is now 2024 as of this writing and the job isn't done) AND the company had the audacity to charge me for the job without finishing the job or calling me first. The longer version: It all started when they sent a showroom person to my condo instead of a field sales person. They then sold me on products that were not available and I chose the products that I wanted and they ordered them. Then on the days that they were here to install, I found out that the products that I was sold were not the ones that showed up. I also found out that some of my shades were not available yet. Little did I know it would take almost a year for the other shades to show up. Issues I've had: blinds were broken on arrival, blinds did not function, wall outlets didn't function, not set up correctly with the remotes, the charging cables were supposed to be battery operated and then after install, they told me that it was a different product because this one was better, they had to come back to try to install roughly 10 times and the total project has taken probably 30 hours of my time at least while they've been here and I've had to take off work because of them. We are now over a year and a half after the start of the project, and the company has decided instead of calling me to finish the project , they just charged me for the remainder and gave me a little bit off the top for the hole still not painted that they made. They have my number and they could've called but instead they used an email address that I no longer use and asked them not to use instead of calling me. This company is incredibly unprofessional. They've left a hole in my wall that has not been painted , which is the easiest thing because I have the paint they just need to paint the wall. Do not waste your time go literally anywhere else. The guys that did the installs were all great guys but unfortunately, the owner who told me he would make sure that my project was done himself decided that halfway through he would pass it off to his son, who, then proceeded to miss my first meeting without letting me know which I took off work to do and then his son instead of calling me charged me $10,000. Unfortunately, there's a lot more to this story, but I don't feel like reliving any of it. I'll say it again, DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY! Update: the team wanted to share receipts so I have added my own. Attached are pictures of their work and emails sent. Mind you, the first emails were from mid 2022 for the first install and periodic updates with not much progress. Also pictured, the hole STILL IN MY WALL (I've had the paint sitting in my home for 8ish months btw). Also pictured, pleated blinds, broken or not sealed blinds etc. I'll share emails too where I asked them to call me. The blinds were unevenly installed, I had to repeatedly ask for updates. Unfortunately I'm not their project manager but really felt like I had to be a lot of the time. They claim that I said the project was done but what I said was that some of it was done. "Seemingly" finished because there's more to do. Here's the crazy part, I have called and left messages asking them to call me but instead of calling me they responded on here. For reference, I have been working on this 2 bedroom project for so long that since working with them, I met my fiancée, dated for over a year, got engaged and planned an entire wedding all before the project was completed. I've had two birthdays. Two super bowls have passed etc. you get the point. It's been a long time and it's a lot of money to just charge without a call. They can share all they want. I wish I had read the reviews for this company before giving them my money. If you are looking for extremely expensive window treatments that take many months to get done (how many? I don't know. Mine still aren't installed after three months and I don't even have an installation date!) with salespeople like Kim, who may not answer email for weeks at a time, this is the place for you. As a bonus, I ordered my own curtain fabric and had it shipped to their warehouse. They lost my fabric, tried to blame FedEx for it, and it took several weeks of persistent emailing and phone calls for them to find it. Will my windows ever be covered? Who knows? Certainly not Blinds & Designs. Update: For those of you who are wondering how long the process of getting my window treatments for a single window took, the answer is nearly five months. This included the installers coming to my house, getting two hours into the installation process, and then stopping because the custom-cut curtain rod was the wrong size. It turned out that the rod was mislabeled in the warehouse, so they had brought the wrong rod to my job. My only regret is that I cannot give zero stars. San Francisco, can we have higher standards for what we expect from customer service, please? There is no reason this place should continue to be in business: after a ton of work to contact them (no response to email, no one picked up phone, a store with no associate), I had to schedule an appointment to get a quote for some Hunter Douglas blackout curtains. I scheduled it about a month in advance, they canceled it five minutes before they closed the day before they were supposed to come by to provide the quote. My appointment was at noon downtown SF. It takes me around 40 mins to get there. I get an email same day from the measurement man at 10am he is sick. But Im already out by then. Prior to me going out I called BD to confirm the appointment n left messages as I didn't talk to a person. I got a voicemail from BD but by this time Ive already reached my building. It would be really considerate if the company gave me 24 hour notice that the appointment is cancelled or at least call many hours before 12pm & leave text & voicemail, not just give 2 hours notice! Showed up they said we didn't have an appointment. The guy at the door was a bumbling idiot. He couldn't find his head if it was screwed on with fucking bolts. We asked if we could at least look around and he told us no. Don't waste your time with this place, the customer service is in the toilet. They lost out on the sale of two full rooms of plantation blinds. Going elsewhere. We ended up going to Blind Ambitions. Like night and day. My real estate agent recommended Blinds & Designs. I worked with Rob and he was fantastic. He had a great eye on design. He listen to us and didn't oversell us. He understood what we wanted and recommended the right type of shades. When there was a manufacturing issue with one of the shades, they insured I got a shade that I was satisfied with. Then a few months later, we decided that we wanted a little more privacy with our living room shades. Rob understood and since we only bought a few months ago, he got us under the Hunter Douglas replacement program where we just had to pay a small fee for new shades. If I could leave a 0 star review I would. Complete disaster from start to finish. DO NOT work with Kim. She is horrible. Did not tell me what I wanted to order was not available for 6 months. When she finally made an appointment to measure my windows, she cancelled it the morning of (I had taken the day off work). Finally got notice that they arrived and scheduled appointment for delivery. Again, I scheduled work around the delivery/installation. Then they called and tried to change it. When I said "NO" they agreed to the original appointment, but the day before they had the gall to call and ask if it could be set later in the day. Are you kidding????? They were finally installed this morning...and don't really look that nice. The edges aren't sewn neatly. Oh well.... I am a realtor and will definitely NOT RECOMMEND them to any of my clients. Although I will note that my experience was during the lockdown period, in general they have very poor communication and will not follow through proactively on things. It took over 2 months from reaching out to them to finally installing the blinds and took many follow ups on my part for them to figure things out. I was not happy with the blinds not covering the windows properly and reached back out, they said they were going to look into a solution and then never responded despite my follow ups. We've had Hunter Douglas Luminettes in our home for a number of years and love the product but were unhappy with the installation and service by another vendor. Blinds & Designs tried to help us with our original installation even though it wasn't theirs. When it came time to add to another room we went to them. They were very responsive to providing a proposal including our request to correct the existing ones. We just had our new drapes installed and they're perfect. Their installer was great and very respectful of our property but the best part was that he reinstalled our existing drapes to our satisfaction. We recently bought a loft style condo with large windows -- two sets of 8 ft x 10 ft (we have 15 ft ceilings) including a door out onto the balcony. We shopped around at a couple of places and decided to go with Blinds & Designs based on how professional and experienced Rob came across. During our initial consultation with him, Rob was very knowledgeable about installation of the Hunter Douglas honeycomb shades we were interested in. He also gave us great design and logistical advice which we would not have thought of, and ended up making a difference in the functionality and appearance of the window treatments. Once we decided to proceed with the purchase, Rob followed up with an estimate by email within the week. The pricing was reasonable and actually not too different from these "budget conscious" blinds we had also looked at. Time in placing our order to installation was approximately 3 weeks. Steve was our installer and he was no-nonsense, efficient, and great. He needed to run out and purchase an extra drill bit, which he did so quickly. Steve made sure to review the blinds with us and go over basic functions (we purchased top-down/bottom-up shades). He cleaned up the work area and made sure there was no debris before he left. There ended up being a problem with one of the shades and the cords were too short, so Steve said he would make sure these were ordered and he would come back to finish installation once the replacement products arrived in about a week. Overall, we are super pleased with the blinds -- they look great, and working with Blinds & Designs was painless and professional. I don't imagine there being any issues with the follow-up and replacement of the couple of items, but will update if there are problems :) read more

Initially didn't have a positive experience. Had to follow up with them several times to get them to come back and fix the blinds properly, and within a year the blinds fell apart. However, talked to them; they said that they will come tomorrow to fix. Follow up: they did come on time and this time sent much qualified technicians to fix the issue. I just want to start off by saying that I really appreciated all of the help that I recieved during my work with blinds and designs. I was looking for the right type of fabric for Roman shades and was being very picky about it. I had nimerous appoinments with them trying to find my vision and they helped me narrow it down and ultimately make my final decision. My sales person was prompt in keeping me in the loop with dates of completion and even scheduled my installation before my shades were in so I didnt have to wait. There was little miscommuntication on the Install time which is why im giving them 4 stars instead of 5 but overall am very satisfied. I rarely write reviews so when I do you know it's either really good or a disaster. By now you've already seen my one star rating so if you're considering doing business with Blinds and Designs stop reading and move on to another provider. If you're intrigued to learn about my 7 month journey feel free as it's quite unbelievable. I began this experience on February 4 placing an order for four Mecho brand blinds including two for my bedroom and two for my loft. The quoted lead time was 4 - 5 weeks. After the initial timeframe passing with no updates from the designer who submitted my order I followed up on several occasions and was quoted new dates that also came and went. At the end of April the blinds were installed. The bedroom blinds were good from the get go but the upstairs is where the nightmare continues. Not only were they installed backwards but one of the blinds wasn't measured properly so a new one had to be ordered. For the next four months the saga continued with two different replacements being ordered, taking time away from the office to meet the installers and having them still be wrong. The first one was the wrong color and the next one didn't have the appropriate means to attach it to the roller that was installed earlier. After resisting the vendors attempt to get me to take another afternoon off I made it clear the next appointment would be on a Saturday when it was convenient for me and not them. Miraculously on September 10 . . that's right over 7 months later the blinds were completed. You might be wondering why I wouldn't escalate this within the company. If you know me you know I do escalate and I was dealing with the owner. The owner who wouldn't return my calls rather he would email me with the same old "I am sorry" or "I have asked so and so" to address. His final email to me was on Thursday the 15th advising me of the balance owed by me and offering a $500 discount. Despite his own company's lack of follow up throughout this entire process they suddenly had a fire lit under them as I got another call from Susan asking me for credit card information Friday AND an email from the owner this morning asking about my payment. Gee if only they had the same sense of urgency throughout this process maybe my blinds wouldn't have taken about as long as it would take to for a woman to deliver a baby. A couple of key points here that irk me to no end . . . 1. Designer originally did not reply to my inquiries and took no ownership of the issue. 2. Owner consistently blamed the supplier which I don't disagree they may have made errors but when you have a client who has been strung along for months how about speaking to their senior executives? 3. The blinds were not checked before they came to my home or else someone would have known the replacement shades were the wrong color or had the wrong attachment. 4. A $500 discount may sound substantial. Keep in mind my total exceeded $11,000 so I wouldn't say a 5% discount does much when the process took 7 months, multiple days off and countless follow ups. The one plus is the installers who were very kind and appeared to be as frustrated as I was given they had to lug up shades and ladders only to have to take them away again. All in all Blinds and Designs is perhaps one of the most ridiculous experiences I have EVER had. I hope these details help spare you the agony I have experienced by encouraging you to take your business anywhere but here. read more

Customer service from the sales people on the floor to the decorator contractor - Karl who never dropped off samples or returned phone call or emails rather stating: "Sorry, my Mother was in town." to even the owner (who to this date has not acknowledged the email I sent indicating my unhappiness) are POOR. The worst company I have ever dealt with in San Francisco. I only wish I had read the Yelp reviews before signing a contract. They never finished my blinds but managed to convince American Express they had, so I have been unable to collect a refund. Our blinds have open ends, looking like the factory screwed up, and they claim they can't find the parts. If they didn't have the parts, they shouldn't have installed the blinds. Nice people with good product but really terrible customer service, no follow-through, and unresponsive. I order a Hunter Douglas blind with the promise of installation in approx six weeks. Well here it is twelve weeks after the order and it is a comedy of errors trying to nail down if they have the blind and when they can install it. Apparently only Rob Farella can answer these questions. First he was going to call me back with the status. He never called back. I waited a couple of weeks and then tried calling the company. In general, they didn't answer the phone and I had to leave messages. They never responded. Yesterday I sent them a fax trying to get their attention. They did not respond to that either. I am very disappointed in the company. At this point I would just either like my money back or a quick quality installation. I am not very optimistic about either. read more

Update! Almost one hour after I posted my review of Blinds & Designs I received a phone call from Virginia, THE customer service gal at Blinds & Designs. Not only was she very concerned as to my experience with the "folks on Polk", she really went out of her way to get me a time for installation, on a weekend at a super convenient time. All of this caught me by surprise, but I was glad to see that the company does seem to care. Day of Installation. Antonio was on time, very conscientious (put footies over his boots, careful about the furniture, etc.). He got 4 of the 6 blinds up. One of the blinds didn't fit because I seem to have a wacky window that is not exactly "square"--I don't think this is an unusual problem in SF. The second blind was way too dark for the room. I was worried about the additional costs that this little problem might cause. Well, on Monday, Virginia left a message for me that she would try to put a rush on the shades that needed to be re-measured and swapped out and would totally take care of things. All this to say that Blinds & Designs does care--at least Virginia and Antonio do. My friends that recommended Blinds & Designs to me said they had a FABULOUS experience with Alexis, who works in their main studio. The whole window covering experience working with Blinds & Designs has been a class in patience and micro management. Starting in NOVEMBER 2010 when I dropped off my fabric for the drapes to be sewed and not getting a call back for almost 2 weeks. Then after I called them (and they apologized) I kept following up with the order (hardware was coming from Germany so I understand that it took longer). After almost 4 weeks of waiting, they installed it and alas, the drapers were totally dragging on the floor. Definitely NOT what we had discussed and there were missing pieces of hardware! Plus, installers didn't even bother steaming the drape initially and left scratches on my ceiling that we need to repaint over and a hole in the wall that we'll need to spackle and paint over! They then re-collected the drapery and shortened it and ordered the hardware. 3.5 weeks later I called them asking "Hey, where's my hardware piece?" Their response was that it had been sitting around there for a long time! Really? Then why hadn't anyone called me!! The gentleman is FINALLY installing the last piece of hardware as I type this (MARCH 4, 2011 - 3.5 MONTHS LATER!), and he's steaming the drapes (thanks!) They look really nice but it isn't worth all the effort after paying so much for the work. I would go elsewhere if I were you to a place that can manage the whole thing while pro-actively communicating with customers. My review is long overdue- 2 years in fact But I still haven't forgotten Preston: He came to my house, we decided on 4 separate blinds to cover a 4 panel atrium and once they were installed I hated the look of them- the four blinds for one space looked choppy and the cords for each were contributing to a messy look. I called Preston- explained that I had never bought blinds before and I had been relying on his eye as a professional to guide me a bit and was disappointed in the outcome.
