UNTRUSTWORTHY For the price of $475 they cleaned my blinds, lost a bunch of necessary components, then refused to take any responsibility. So now my blinds are incomplete. Jennifer was the decision maker who decided stealing was the proper course of operation after Sirvante (sp?) the absent minded technician lost the matching valances and attachments. Her solution for replacing what they lost? Charging us for it so they could make more of a profit. I can't say if its a deliberate scam or mass incompetence. But its terrible service with no accountability. Jennifer actually said how could she know if they were all there to start. 1) thats their job to keep track if what they take and 2) implying I would try to steal extra slats (why????) to cover her losing them is atrocious. I had a bad experience before, but made the mistake of letting someone else make this appointment and got stuck with them again. Previously, they'd rehung a blind wrong so it fell and gouged a chunk of plaster from the window frame that they never fixed. The worst! Never use this company!!! read more

Would have given them five stars if they'd charged us the price they quoted. Quick, responsive, efficient, courteous. Also dishonest. We were quoted $85 for the service call plus $2.50 for each valance clip and whatever the cleaning cost would be, which was quoted as either $22 or $27 per window blind depending on the size of the window. We decided not to have the blinds cleaned and suddenly the service call charge went up to $130. They told us this after they had already arrived and replaced the clips, so we were stuck. read more

Unbelievably unprofessional. I had 5 blinds restrung. $282.00. One of them was restrung with the wrong color cord. The color is not off by a little, but a completely different end of the color spectrum. Funny thing is since I am a painting contractor the tech and myself had an extensive conversation about colors of cord they have on the truck. His reply to my question of how many colors of cords are there, was "how many colors of paint are there?" At any rate the office was very poor at communicating. When I reported the incident I was told "don't worry, it will get taken care of". But they never called me back to try and fix it.Yes it would be taken care of "AT THEIR CONVENIENCE"???? They did not call me back that night and ignored the voicemail message I left them to call me. Non existent customer service. When I finally reached them I was told I would have to subject myself to another 3 hour time window. I was told by the office I would get a courtesy phone call 30 minutes before arrival. However that is what they told us about the original appointment but that never happened. They just showed up and said the 30 minute phone call request was never communicated to him. I told the office I could not wait around town again for three hours and told them they needed to inconvenience themselves to fix their shoddy work. They refused and said the three hour window was unconditional. The tech knew he installed a competently different color cord according to the office, he took full responsibility however I was told, now they have to put other customers (with scheduled appointments) ahead of ones that already paid. Poor customer service, unreliable, non-communication, dismissive, techs that do poor work and dash. I was told over and over again that they are tying to help ME with MY problem, but the only solution was based upon their convenience. My "problem" was created by them. They needed to make it convenient for me. They are stubborn and unyielding. In the end they acted as though they were doing me a favor by refunding the portion for the work performed incorrectly and ask me not to post a yelp review. I am a small business man. If this happened to my company it would have been fixed immediately. But it wouldn't happen to me!!!!!!!!! Be ware! read more

This is my first time using Yelp, but after dealing with Blind Magic, felt a strong to warn people NOT to use their services. I am also pursuing this with the Better Business Bureau. Blind Magic came to fix 4 out of 22 custom blinds in my home. Their technician told me they could not repair the blinds after all and would need to replace them and that he would get the exact same blinds I had. He went outside to call his office, then came in with a quote stating that the office was also calling to get another possibly lower quote. He took a call and gave me the lower quote - which was about $96 cheaper that the first quote which I accepted. When he came back to install the blinds, I didn't notice until he was about to leave that the blinds he installed were in fact NOT the same blinds as the ones I had. I mentioned it to him and could tell he was caught off guard and realized his mistake. Since he was so nice and it did not seem like a big deal when the blinds were open, I decided to let it go - knowing that it was a custom job and that it was likely a costly mistake on his part. But after he left and I closed the blinds (which he did not do while he was there) I noticed there was a HUGE difference between the blinds and how awful they looked compared to my other blinds. I researched online to discover that the blinds I had were routless/no holes security blinds and that I had been give cheaper routed blinds with holes. I also noticed that when the blinds were closed, 3 of the 4 blinds did NOT fit the windows properly and created a security risk for me on my ground floor. I called Blind Magic first thing the following morning and asked the owner to call me back. That was on 1/23/13. No one called me back, but when I called again, I spoke to the technician who basically called me a liar and said that he had told me that the lower quote was for the cheaper blinds than what I had and that he had a witness on the other end of the phone who heard him tell me that. I am shocked at this outright lie. All I knew was that he was getting a lower quote from another company - he never told me it was for anything other than the same blinds we agreed on. Nor did he address the 3 blinds that didn't fit right or that all 4 blinds installed were reversed from the other blinds in my home. Further, I was told that if I wanted the correct blinds, I would have to pay for the wrong ones plus 50% of the new ones. I said I was willing to consider the possibility of a misunderstanding (again trying to be reasonable) but that since not all the blinds fit properly, I was not willing to assume that much. The price they quoted me for fixing THEIR mistake was $215. I told them I felt $150 would be fair and asked for the owner to call me back. I am still waiting for a call back over a month later. I have contacted Blind Magic 4 times during the last month including through the Better Business Bureau and through all conversations with them been very polite. I have repeatedly asked that the owner call me regarding this and they have not. Why they are not interested in resolving this issue I have no idea. I am posting pictures of the "custom" blinds they installed in my home which shows huge gaps that cause a security risk for me and are unacceptable. I will be happy to remove my review when this issue is resolved to my satisfaction. I have no wish to discredit any business, but I will not sit back and be taken advantage of or be called a liar. Please do not use this business. It is the worst feeling in the world to be an honest person and be taken advantage of and not even have a business try to fix their mistake or call you back after they have taken your money in good faith. Also, it is horrible when anyone can walk by your home and see right in to all your electronic equipment and valuables because your blinds don't fit properly. read more

Our 2200 square foot house in Grass Valley has plantation shutters on every window. After 12 years of living here, many of the shutters were in need of repair plus were just plain dirty (thanks to only spotty cleaning over the years from us). I could find no one in our area who would come to our home to repair and clean our shutters. No one "down the hill" was willing to come, even with our paying something for the travel time. No one, that is, except Blind Magic. They sent two very nice guys, one who cleaned while the other made repairs. The repairs were on a per piece basis and the cleaning on a time-taken basis. The repairs were well done and I felt like the person doing that work took the time needed to figure out solutions. The cleaning was well done and moved along at a good pace and I thought the time-keeping for this was fair. Overall, it was a great experience. We are really happy with our "new" shutters and highly recommend Blind Magic. read more

Just had our 2 inch blade drop down blind restrung (2 strings) and our Hunter Douglas Duette blind fixed by replacing ultraglide motor. Dropped them off and they were done the next day and ready for pickup earlier than estimated. I'm super happy. Ninety dollars total seemed very fair to me. I have used Blind Magic before and have always found them easy to work with. Luckily husband was able to remove both blinds from windows with a little help from u-tube. Blind Magic also is able to come to your home to repair blinds if possible or take them back to the shop. The $130 charge for that seemed high to me but I know everything is going up. (Maybe a senior discount for that service would be nice.) I highly recommend this business. read more

I called this place on a recommendation from a retailer that didn't do repair work. After setting an up appointment, they came out to take measurements and such. I was given a 1-3 window, we called at 330, 4 and 430 before someone finally showed up. My estimate never arrived, so I called in to ask for it. Several days later I still didn't get it so I called in again. They were able to find it but they had missed two windows and counted the missing parts incorrectly. I should have moved on at this point but I didn't. Several weeks later my parts had arrived and they called to set up an install time. Again, the technician was over an hour late and he arrived without all the parts that were requested on the invoice. He left and said someone would call us back to set up an appointment. The following week the office called me demanding we make an immediate payment... Hold up... the technician left and said someone would call us to schedule an appointment to finish the work. The technician was right. Payment comes when you do the agreed upon work. The woman on the phone was incredibly rude and basically kept talking over me. I told her very clearly I'd be happy to pay the full invoice once my work was complete. She hung up, called again and tried telling me my work was already discounted... ummmmm? No it wasn't. It wasn't discounted on my estimate and no one had ever mentioned to me anything about a discount. I asked if someone could come out today and finish the installation (seeing as I'd already taken two afternoons off for someone that that was over an hour late twice) but that offer was rejected. I asked to speak to the owner to explain the situation and she said she'd pass my information along. About 20 minutes later, another call.... this time she was a completely different person. Helpful, and polite, she offered to allow me to pay when the work was done and set up another appointment for when the parts arrived. Not sure what happened... On service call number three... the technician showed up on time to the dot with all the required parts, and completed the job. The work was even discounted to cover the installation of the previously missing parts. I'm not sure I'd recommend this place, but in the end the work did get done. read more

Terrible business experience! I would never recommend them! As far as the work that was fine, it was the customer service and the lack of creativity. On initial contact via their web site a phone call was not returned. Then after finally reaching them and establishing the scope of work, they measured incorrectly and caused me to take additional time and money out of my busy schedule. They did not care that their mistake cost me time and money! A simple gesture of understanding would be a start! However, here is their position, "Since we have to go back out to the job site and remeasure it will actually cost us money...." Really? This should not be my problem! I am the customer and I expect you to do your work correctly! When I called the company the receptionist laughed at me on the phone. Unacceptable. I will do everything in my power to ensure you never see money from a certain corporate customer. Once the technician was back onsite, he blamed the receptionist for the mixup and that just may be the case since it sounded like she never wrote down anything to begin with or gain agreement. Three issues with this place.. 1) blinds were done weeks ago but no one called me and if they did call me they sure didn't leave a message. 2) went in there to pay for the blind cleaning service and the employee did not have any change. We had to pull out our bucket of change from inside the car, paid the man. 3) THEN!!!!.. We left the bucket sitting on the counter, came back to the car, noticed we didn't have it, went back into the store to find it sitting next to the male employee who didn't bother to tell us we left our bucket of change. Dropped off a hunter blind to be restring, with a three business day turn around. I was never called, after following up three times, I was told that It was not done and I could just come by and pick it up and go somewhere else. So, I did. To my surprise the restringing was completed and when I told the person my ordeal, she looked at me like I was crazy and demised me. What a bad experience! read more

The good: Both my blinds were repaired and work well--one of them even better than when it was new! The confusion: The website implies that your blinds are repaired in your home or business or you can take your blinds to the shop for repair. If a Blind Magic technician comes out, there is a $130 service call fee plus the cost of the repair. I was okay with the cost estimate given when I scheduled because I expected the blinds to be repaired in my home. However, when the large truck arrived, the technician looked at the blinds, moved them and stated that he couldn't repair the blinds and had to take them to the shop. I asked if they'd be returned that same day and he said that they were busy and maybe the next day. I called the shop for clarification and was told they'd be returned that afternoon. After the return window passed, I called again and was told that the blinds needed more parts, an additional parts charge, and would be ready the next morning. When the next morning's return window passed, a new window of early afternoon was given and then the blinds were delivered and rehung. Lesson learned: There was an old lady who swallowed a cat. Fancy that--she swallowed a cat! She swallowed the cat to catch the bird; she swallowed the bird to catch the spider that wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her! She swallowed the spider to catch the fly. I don't know why she swallowed the fly...and I still don't. read more

This place is great! My wife and I had a large custom blind that covered our back sliding glass door. The strings on the door side failed (after 10 years, so a good run) we thought about changing them ourselves but I said let's see if we can have them professionally fixed because I have no idea how to do this (neither did she) and replacing the entire blind would cost about $500. So....after google searching I found Blind Magic - gave them a call and the nice lady quoted me between 35 to $65 to restring. What a deal! I figured we would be on the high end and might even be more than $65 - but heck my time and sanity is worth the $65! So we get there and very nice lady (same I spoke to on the phone) told us it would be $65 (we thought it would be more since the blinds are so big - but no!) she also allowed us to pay partial but we just paid he whole amount. Less than a week later and I get the call that the blind is ready - went and pickup and done. Bottom line - save yourself the hassle, support a small business and let them do it right. Last year we had one of our Hunter Douglas blinds break. I called around and found that very few places actually repair blinds, most just replace. They handled our repair quickly and the cost was very reasonable. It was as good as new after ordering a new part from the manufacturer. I called them and explained my window covering problems, The girl who answered the phone listened and wrote down the issues gave me a quote and we set up an appointment. She was awesome to work around my schedule being I was only in town for one day. I called her and told her I had to run out and would leave a note for the tech who came out. The tech came out when promised and did an excellent job fixing my blinds, He also told me why a couple of them had problems and suggested I change them. Awesome! Excellent experience. We brought in Hunter Douglas blinds to be restrung. Quick turnover and found Larissa to be helpful with positive energy. OH NO! Before re-installing I did something terribly dumb and needed to get the same blinds restrung once again. I called the company immediately and found Larissa to be both gracious and accommodating. I brought in the blinds the following day during a requested time frame and was able to have the blinds re-strung while I waited. Blind Magic came to my house and removed my three custom made Roman Shades for professional cleaning. My shades are about 15 years old but well cared for and were in excellent condition with no variation in length or width. Each shade covered the entire window and kissed the sill. After cleaning and installation there was obvious shrinkage in width and length. They varied in length as much as 1/2" and one was almost 2" above the sill. Additionally each shade curls inward on both sides and has a 1/2" gap. They no longer cover the window opening. Blind Magic claims that I was informed that they might curl and that the shades were already an inch above the sill before cleaning. Upon initial inspection there was no mention or notation made addressing any existing irregularities or damage. Why would I pay $178.00 to have my shades cleaned and agree that it was ok to damage them? It doesn't make sense! I am appalled at their false claim of prior damage and that I had given the OK for any curling on the sides of my shades. Blind Magic will not take any responsibility for the damage unless I have the original receipt. Blind Magic's response to my complaint is both unacceptable and unprofessional. They were disrespectful and made no effort to work with me, although they did refund my payment for cleaning. My shades are now dysfunctional and their response was "it's the best we could do". read more

We would definitely use this company again for any blind issues. We were having new windows installed and were unable to remove 4 sets of mini-blinds, even after contacting the vendor for help. Blind Magic was able to remove all 4 at a very nominal rate. As we were never able to remove the blinds previously to clean them (plus another very large duet blind), we asked Blind Magic to clean these as well. They all came back spotless and beautiful (including the large duet). But what puts them a cut above in service was their willingness to work around our window installation project. It took a while for the project to complete, and Blind Magic was able to get the blinds back up within a day of my contacting them. Great service and great rates. read more

They cleaned our metal blinds and did a great job! One of the blinds was in the bathroom and had a lot of yellow crud from smoking and they got the blind as clean as new. In addition, the put an anti-static treatment on the blinds to keep them from gathering dust. The treatment makes the blinds even feel better when you touch them. Phoned Blind Magic on July 31st to set up an appointment for this Wednesday, August 15th, to come out and clean 30 blinds. I get a call from them just a bit ago (female, not sure of name) telling me that they have to reschedule my appointment due to unforeseen conflicts or something like that. I reminded her that I had set this up on July 31st and can't understand how I am getting bumped from an appointment that I set up well ahead of time as well as have vacation already scheduled for this work to be performed. She then gave me a host of excuses (government contract work, employees out sick). I really didn't respond to the excuses and then in the next breath she said in a huffy manner, "Let me get back to you," I said "Ok" and then she SLAMMED THE PHONE DOWN!!!! I was floored! I sat there for a moment and then called her back and said "I'm going to do you guys a favor, don't bother coming out to my house, you just slammed the $#%ing phone down on me. Take your services somewhere else." and hung up! Absolutely not going to drop a grand with their company to be treated like that. The reason I made the appointment so far in advance was so something like this didn't happen and they get pissy with me? nope, not happening. So unprofessional and I can only speculate that perhaps they stand more to gain by bumping me and going to a different job where the revenue would yield more for them on Wednesday. read more

This firm was recommended to me by Draperies by Rico, Inc (Laura). I have a Hunter Douglas Luminete Privacy Shade across my sliding glass door. I absolutely love the shade and how it lets light in, and still offers privacy. It was time to get the dust out. the strings in the 17-year old aluminum mini-blinds in our kitchen had broken last year but i procrastinated doing anything about it until this fall because i thought we'd have to buy completely new blinds. i happened to mention this to a neighbor and she suggested we have our broken mini-blinds restrung instead since it would be a lot less expensive. i googled and found blind magic. i shot them a message via their website and got a quote back within a couple of hours...the price was excellent so i went and dropped it off for restringing and cleaning. they did a great job. works as good as new. there were three gals at their showroom and all of them were helpful and friendly. really a great experience and i will probably bring in our broken cellular shades in for restringing by them too. highly recommended! read more

You just cannot go wrong doing business with this company. I needed 2 vertical blinds and 2 horizontal blinds. I called 4 different companies. Three of them gave me estimates ranging from $900-$1200. Blind Magic's total cost was $842. All four companies showed me pretty much the same products & choices in color, texture etc. One of the companies kept calling me back saying they had found a "coupon" that would reduce the cost to around $900(after quoting me an original cost of $1100) If there was a coupon why not just initially quote that price instead ?? Seriously ! Blind Magic did not do any of that. The sales person that came out, Rachel, was great. No high pressure sales tactics & no games. She helped me pick out the perfect color & style and I am extremely pleased with the blinds. The installer was on time & did a very professional job. He was pleasant & courteous and got the installation done in a very short time. I would definitely recommend this company and I would not hesitate to do business with them again. read more

We have 20+ year old Hunter Douglas shutters that needed repaired. The part that holds the louver/slat to the tilt bar was broken, magnets were broken, and the shutters a needed general tune up. The appointment scheduler (Larissa) was very knowledgeable and made an appointment for me right away. The technician showed up within the promised two-hour time frame. The technician (James Cummings) was also very knowledgeable and professional. He got right to work fixing everything. He took the time to inspect and repair/open/close/adjust each of the panels to make sure that the entire shutters (louvers, tilt bar, panels, etc.) were working properly. According to the Hunter Douglas web site, Blind Magic is an authorized Hunter Douglas dealer. It is easy to find companies that sell shutters, but not so easy to find a company that actually repairs them! Thank you Larissa and James for the excellent work!!! read more

I received a recommendation for Blind Magic from the retailer where I purchased my blinds, as they do not do repairs. When I called, I was given a quote of $30 for the part (the little metal thing that the stick hooks on to to open and close the blinds) and $65 for a trip charge. The girl on the phone also told me I could bring my blind in and avoid the trip charge. I told her I didn't know how to take them down and proceeded to make an appointment. The repairman came out, on time, but seemed to want me to pay up front. When I asked him if I had to pay before he fixed my blind, he said no. I watched as he took my blind down (so easy anyone could do it) and then he told me he had to take it out to his truck to make the repair. He was gone for about 15 minutes. I had to get a step stool for him so he could put the blind back up. The whole time I was watching, he kept looking back at me as though he resented me watching what he was doing. He had trouble getting the blind back up...I almost got the feeling he was somewhat new at this...but in the end, he got it back up and it works. The reason I am giving them a low rating, and will never use them again, is because I feel the girl could have provided good customer service and told me how to get the blind down. Also...unless there is some mechanism inside the blind that I couldn't see, $30 seems like a pretty high price to pay for a little metal part. read more
