I have heard great things from other parents about Great Hearts schools and wanted to find out for…read moremyself. We applied this year and were fortunate to have been drafted through lottery. My daughter loved her old school and was quite disappointed when we told her that she was going to a new school. However, after 4 months, she has acclimated well and have nothing but good things to say about her teachers and classmates. She finds the work challenging and exciting. The school has taught her and our family a new way to approach reading. They teach Latin and have poetry wars. They also have an after school program that is an extension to their education and not just babysitting. The after school teachers help with homework and pick up is until 6 pm. They also have after school clubs with nominal charge. What is most important to my family was the school's faculty and their program for kids with special needs. My son was diagnosed with a rare disorder in October, that affected him neurologically. Some of the staff from school and after school program visited him, including Mr. Brogran (assistant headmaster). We love his teacher Mrs. Laird. She is a smart, kind, and loving teacher. She visited him in the hospital twice. My son had missed 2 1/2 months of school from being sick. Ms. Ernest (teacher), has been so patient in teaching him at home. She has been an important part of his education. We drive to school at least an hour twice a day, sometimes longer. We decided to move closer to the school since our kids loved being there.

horrible. the kids are extremely racist and form cliques and leave others out. This school is only…read moregood up until 5th grade after that get your kids the hell out of here. The faculty does nothing when something serious happens. My child has come home telling me that many children say the n word and many other offensive things but the staff does NOTHING. She would always come home depressed because she had barely any friends and the children would leave her out. I would never send any of my other children here. They have a long way to go. They a very small variety of classes and everyone does the same courses. I want to give them zero starts but that's not possible so l'll give them a 1. New! More ways to react to reviews.

If sexism and negligence took place as a school, it would be this one. No words truly describe how…read moremuch this school has changed in the worst way possible. when I was a freshman we had the most amazing principal ever, but the vice principal was something else. after she left, he took over. basically everything change and I have made a well constructed list of how awful this school is. 1. sexism. this school is far more invested In the lives of teenage girls then it should be. why should I walk into a classroom and the first thing that happens are the teachers checking my skirt length. Not only that, but the boys get away with everything. we have a uniform at our school, which consist of a polo and either khaki or navy blue pants/skirts. The boys often show up in khaki sweatpants/navy blue sweatpants or not even Antonian outerwear or polos. But the girls are sent to the office every day for the length of our skirts. The teachers always say they aren't looking at the girls in a provocative way, but they never seem to notice how the boys in our class. I was once told that my skirt was too short and I was gifted in many areas. He was talking about my butt. This was teacher. The boys also Wear extremely extremely tight pants and extremely tight shirts. I can see everything and yet my boobs being too big for my shirt is a problem. we are constantly being told to cover up for our bodies and that we are more than what we wear, but then we are constantly yelled at and made fun of by the faculty. I find this funny because it is the boys who are sneaking off into the bathrooms and doing weed. Our principal is more concerned with what is in our hair than the boys smoking and doing weed in the school bathroom. 2. expressing yourself. at Antonian College preparatory high school you must fit in with everybody else. You cannot wear whatever earrings you want or do whatever you want with your hair because it could be too distracting for the students around you. Over the years, they have become more concerned over what type of shoes you are wearing rather than being concerned with the fact that almost half of the senior class not graduate. This school is more concerned about their image than their actual students. They do not care about you. 3. their image and rule following. When I was a sophomore I got sent to the mental hospital. I had a lot of work to make up and it was just a very stressful time for me. The teachers did not care. they were more concerned about the criteria that has been established. if I was overworked and I didn't have time to make up a quiz it would be a zero. overall, the teachers just did not care. They just wanted a paycheck. The teachers take the rules to seriously. Now I know following the rules is important, but sometimes you have to break these rules. if you need to go use the restrooms during advisory, you are considered absent. I once saw my advisory teacher tell a student to go grab something from their backpack. The bell rang and she locked the door on him and told him to get a tardy pass. 4. Did I mention sexism? The sexism in the school is extremely aggravating and disheartening. The boys are constantly praised for doing things the exact same way the girls do. There have been instances where students are having sex in the bathroom and it is only the girl that gets in trouble. I have heard too many instances of the boys getting away (with maybe a detention) but the girls are constantly made fun of and watched upon by the staff. The boys in my class are often playing games and being on their phones while the girls get in trouble for talking. i'm not saying the boys don't get sexist remarks too, because they do. The boys constantly have to do hard labor while the girls just get to sit back and relax. Or, the boys will be asked inappropriate questions about boyhood and it will be seen as a joke. I think these are outdated ideas that are negatively influencing the ideas of young men and women. I could probably write another essay about how awful the school has become and how unbearable it is to go to. And if I feel the need to, I will write another review because I want this School to change for the better. The girls don't feel welcomed, and we just want a place where we can feel accepted and not hated on. unless the school changes for the better do not send your kids here.
