Cornerstone Christian Schools - Front of the beautiful campus

    Cornerstone Christian Schools

If you haven't seen their brand new, state-of-the-art campus, you're missing out! This place looks…read moremore like a COLLEGE campus than an elementary and secondary school. The buildings are beautiful three-story brick buildings, with striking finishing details, and the ceiling of the atrium in the main building has a beautiful mural depicting the heavens opening for Jesus' return. They are also building a premiere sports program, by bringing in proven athletic coaches to work with cutting-edge facilities. All in all, a top-notch campus from a top-notch ministry!

My experience as a student at this school has been extremely disappointing. The quality of…read moreeducation is severely lacking. Not all teachers are certified, and some do not seem fully knowledgeable in the subjects they teach. By the end of the school year, I honestly cannot say I learned as much as I should have. Despite advertising itself as a "college prep" school, there is very little actual preparation for college. Another major issue is the constant disorganization and the staff's inability to properly handle serious situations. The school seems to get a new principal and vice principal almost every year, and with each change, the rules suddenly shift as well. There is very little consistency or structure. The administration also fails to respond appropriately to student safety concerns. There have been incidents of students being sexually harassed in the school parking lot, as well as personal items being stolen, and these situations are often dismissed with statements like, "There's nothing we can do about it." As a result, nothing is ever resolved. In addition, there is heavy drug use in the locker rooms and bathrooms that regularly goes unaddressed. There have also been situations involving students recruited for football bringing guns to school in their cars and receiving little to no serious consequences. One of the most disturbing issues was the school allegedly covering up the suicide of a security officer in the parking lot. Combined with everything else, this created an environment that felt unsafe, poorly managed, and deeply concerning. Overall, I would never recommend this school to anyone. In my opinion, it is absolutely not worth the money. For this being a "christian school", the behavior in the school from students and staff does not reflect that.

Marvelously Made - The School For Young Children

It's a school that honors curiosity over rote learning. That honors emotions over the subjugation…read moreof feelings. That honors the soul over the system. The kids learn through play...how human beings were designed to learn. When people see how WELL their kids learn and how HAPPY they are learning, it's not uncommon for people to get a strange sensation of both happiness and sadness. I believe that's because we intuitively understand that was the educational experience WE were supposed to have as kids but never did. Oh, and the kids are actually sad when they can't go to school and learn new things. That's exactly the kind of education system our nation so desperately needs.

Felt our child was not safe…read more Our child attenteded the Farmhouse program (3-5 years old) in January 2022 and we withdrew him about 4 weeks into the program. The issue that made us withdraw our child had to do with an inclement weather situation. At the time, the farmhouse program was very fluid between indoor and outdoor activities, with the child being able to decide what he/she wanted to do. The problem arose when inclement weather struck combined with a minor COVID outbreak. 1. COVID Policy: If there was a COVID case, the policy was to close the indoor spaces and have the kids be outside only due to not having enough space to safely accommodate all 37 students - this was perfectly acceptable 2. The Inclement Weather: When inclement weather struck (high of 34 degrees), the Farmhouse program remained open and we were given instructions to bundle our kids so they could handle being outdoors for the entire duration of the classtime. We did not feel comfortable leaving our child out in near freezing weather for three hours straight 3. What Puzzled Us The most: our understanding was that all the other programs (Kinder-8th) - which had enough space to safely accommodate the children indoors - were going to be entirely indoors due to the inclement weather. It was only the Farmhouse Program which would be outdoors, and to reiterate, it would be outdoors for the entire three hours of the program We  felt that it would be inhumane of us to send our child out in the cold when we ourselves wouldn't be out there, so we kept our child home during those days of inclement weather. However, as we thought about it more, we realized it would have been perfectly acceptable of the school to ask parents to keep their children those days due to the unfortunate timing of events with the indoor space issues they had and the COVID outbreak. But to make the decision to keep the school open and feel comfortable having pre-school age children in near freezing weather for three hours straight raised an immediate red flag as to other decisions that might be made in the future. There were other smaller red flags with decisions like these, but this one made it very clear we needed to withdraw our child. There were absolutely good things about the program itself that we liked and it is hard to write a review like this given that the program itself seemed to have merit over a traditional school setting. We also intentionally waited 6 months after the incident to write the review so as not to write out of emotion. We hope this review helps others and also would be ecstatic to find out that those policies/decisions have changed.

But Ms. Gallegos is an exemplary woman who is literally falling all over herself to be sweet, loving, and kind to children. My son has high special needs and Ms. Gallegos is his favorite person in the whole world. I don't care if she downs a case of beer when she gets home. I don't care if she smokes a plant in her free time. She's a wonderful person who cares deeply about the kids. Trying to get her fired is the act of a child. She's not being employed because she's beautiful - what a hateful and ignorant thing to accuse. Now, the reason the school gets 3 stars is that they do very well for kids who are neuroatypical and don't have high needs. My kindergartner is well taken care of by the school and has a teacher who he adores. My older son was not a good fit for the school. He has a brain injury that has caused behavioral issue and the school isn't capable of handling anything beyond mild delays and behavior issues. They suspended him knowing that was exactly what he wanted - think in large part, because they no longer wanted to deal with him. So, it's a 5-star school for the average kid, but I'd steer clear for special needs kids. They just are not prepared.

However, once in middle school, things drastically changed. If you have a perfect, we'll-behaved child that is organized, this school is perfect. However, the middle school teachers have a sense of entitlement and are not willing to work with parents. They never call parents to discuss anything positive about their child. They are very punitive and expect parents to not question anything. Teachers are supported by not only the principal, but the "so called" priest. We had a teacher refuse to meet with us about my child's misconduct and she was supported be the principal AND the "so called" priest". Wish I could go more into details because there is so much to say. The two day event was packed with information and gave us useful tips on how to excel in the current world we live in. We got to hear from individuals from different industries and were able to ask them questions, which was great! Through the conference I was able to receive a sponsorship from BDW to learn how to trade, as well as gain mentorship from Lenny Walls himself, as well as Manny Diotte, Yvonne Aceves, and Ymelda Salas. Since then, I've had some powerful experiences and life changes, and a lot of it is through these mentors! Here's a few that stood out to me: -a lot of us went to Miami for a business conference for a November weekend and it was incredible! We did so much in the few days we were there and I felt like I really got to see another side of the people I was with! It was a bonding experience for sure! Got to eat a lot of food, hear people speak at the conference, and even were welcomed onto a yacht! Miami was beautiful and the experience from that weekend made it all so much better. -the mentees have had many opportunities to attend high end galas, holiday parties, and events. The events are so beautiful and it's been a great way to network and get a feel for what our futures may hold! -As for fitness, I've been able to attend one of Lenny Walls' Hustle Fit Camps (& I'm signed up to take another later this month). The event is free for all and inclusive. Lenny even gave us options to modify exercises based on our physical abilities. The fit camps usually run about an hour long and it's a lot of fun! I would recommend it for those looking for some family friendly fun that also keeps you moving! -More recently I've been working part time with Yvonne in her marketing business too! Work doesn't feel like work when it's with someone you like spending time with! I appreciate getting to work with someone I trust & learning from them while also being able to put my skills to use! -BDW and the mentorship I have been receiving also emphasize self-growth, and I feel like I have been able to do that with them through the mastermind meetings they host for us weekly as well as offering a safe space and advice for life events that come our way. They've made a conscious effort to push me to become my very best and I'm so grateful for them and all that they've taught me and continue to teach me!
