Avoid this company at all costs, you will be left with a half finished job. If you're thinking about hiring Barreto and blessed painting, in a word, DON'T. You will be messed around for weeks, delayed and ultimately disappointed. Working with this guy is the height of frustration. But, lets be fair and present a balanced review; Let me start with the positives - Called Barreto on a Wednesday, he picked up and arranged to meet me that night, at 530pm. He arrived at my house at 5pm, early, a good start! - Barreto started the work in good faith with no payment upfront. - The bid that Barreto came in with was at the upper level of competing bids. We needed a new ceiling hung and plaster applied over the sheetrock. Although he was coming in on the high end, he could start that saturday, so we agreed on the price, shook hands and ill see you saturday @ 8am - The two guys that arrived at 8am were pleasant enough. They laid down their protective equipment (they used my plastic and painters tape though!) for the floor and off they went cutting and installing the ceiling. After a quick break, they started plastering the ceiling. They started at 8am and they were done by 130pm, it looked good. excellent! That's were the positives ended. Lets get to the negatives and the real reason you should look elsewhere, anywhere, for a painting contractor. After the ceiling was installed, I spoke to Barreto about painting the ceiling, the walls, prepping and painting all the trim work. He gave me a price, it was good, the lowest bid that we have received. I gladly accepted his offer and he said when the plaster is dry his guys could come back and finish the job. This was October 8th. what happened between 8th October and 3rd November was 20+ text messages, phone calls, emails to Barreto, the majority which were ignored. All i was asking was "when can you come back to finish" and i would receive a response "i'm busy, sorry" "we are busy, we will get back to you" "we are busy until January, you can get another company to finish it if you like". JANUARY!!! WTH????? no one is that busy. After much thought it became obvious that he had underbid on the cost estimate for the painting and didnt want to commit to it. The painting, with all the sanding and prep work, was a two day job, easily. He was willing to offer one day of work for the quote he had bid. This wasnt going to work, he didnt want to do the work because he had underbid on two guys working 16 hours on a job and wouldnt make any money, and i wasnt willing to let him rush the job, compressing two days of work into one day. It would have looked terrible, rushed and unprofessional. Overall, i think Barreto and blessed painting are kinda shady. At one point he asked me to "leave your door open, you dont need to be there when we are painting" who in their right mind would leave 2-3 virtual strangers in their home for 8 hours? no one, i dont care who you are and how trusting you are. So here we are the job half finished, the ceiling has imperfections that i will now have to pay someone else to deal with and will have to contract another company to actually come and finish the paint job. I simply wouldnt hire Barreto or recommend him to anyone. There are literally dozens of painting contractors in the Boston area, i went to Blessed painting and Barreto because of the 4 star reviews on YELP. However, if you look closely, you'll see that no one has reviewed his company in over a year and i can only assume people are having the same bad experiences with him. After calling around to multiple painters -- some of whom never called back -- and getting several quotes -- all of which were higher than Blessed Painting -- we decided to hire Barreto, who answered his phone on the first try AND emailed us a quote (Benjamin Moore paint included!) within a day. The project: our house, which had inoffensive but dreadfully aged wallpaper in almost every room. Barreto and his crew arrived literally as soon as it was safe to walk on our freshly redone floors (shout-out to America Hardwood Floor Service!). The painters were very careful, put down drop-cloths to protect everything, and completely cleaned up every trace that they had ever been there. It was very impressive, considering the fact that they spent six days taking down curtain hardware, stripping many yards of wallpaper, skim-coating the walls, filling old nail holes, sanding, and repainting five rooms plus a hallway, including tons of trim and a set of stairs. They did a FANTASTIC JOB. We are so happy we spent the money on professionals instead of trying to do this ourselves - this was a big job, and it completely transformed our home, all for well under $5K. Best of all, Barreto accepts all kinds of credit cards! This was wonderful for us, since cashflow was tight due to competing home improvement projects -- we were able to put this on a card with a 0% promotion AND a cash-back offer. Barreto, The Blessed Painter, is top notch. After my initial call he promptly scheduled a meeting so that he could provide an estimate. During this initial session he offered us a color sample book to help with our decision. He also suggested that we get a small sample of the proposed paint and test it out by painting a small area on the wall. We narrowed it down to two finalists and tested them both out on our wall. Ironically, my sample sections were ever-so-slightly showing through after Barreto and his colleague finished their work. I reached out to Barreto several days after the project was done to let him know that it might need another coat. It looked so great that we also decided we wanted to add one more wall with the same color. Barreto and his colleague came back out and added two more coats and painted the additional wall and WOULD NOT ACCEPT ANY ADDITIONAL MONEY! Amazing customer service and great work. read more

Summary: Would not use him again nor recommend him to others. I chose Giovani based on reviews here. The job was to do 2 interior rooms. His estimate was in line with others. He's a pleasant, jovial, and honest fellow but there were a number of problems. In short, poor time management, communication, skill level, and attention to detail. 1. He didn't show up the day he said he'd start. He didn't call to say his other job was taking longer than expected; I called him after waiting an hour. He was also late one day after the job started. 2. He told me it would take 2 days. It took 4, an inconvenience because I had to work at home for 4 days instead of 2. 3. Ceiling paint peeled in both rooms the day after painting. They did return and correct it after I called. 4. When Giovani repainted the ceiling after fixing the peeled paint, he used the wall paint. It's a slightly different white, and he didn't repaint the entire ceiling, so it looks lousy. I had clearly marked the cans WALL and CEILING. 5. I bought high quality, low-VOC eco paint. His workmen insisted on using their own, non-eco stuff for the ceiling. 6. When preparing the estimate, I showed Giovani a place where the old plaster had separated from the lath. He asked whether I wanted the wall to look new or just passable. I said new, but it was lumpy afterward. It was probably impossible to make it look new without ripping it out and replacing it with Sheetrock. He should have said so rather then set false expectations. Pros? Other than the sloppy repainting of the ceiling, he and his crew did a neater job than a stoned college student probably would have done. And they didn't steal any of my stuff. read more

Barreto and his team did a great job, removing wallpaper, skim coating, painting and everything in between for 3 rooms and a front hallway. Our house requires a lot of work that his team handled professionally while we continued living in the house. The team was upbeat and friendly with never a complaint. They set up and cleaned up each day they were there for the 6 days of work. My roommates and I greatly appreciated the clean up as we were living there while they redid the majority of our bedrooms. Wow! Blessed Painting stands out from the rest even before they start painting. I called half a dozen painters on a Friday evening and asked them for estimates. Blessed Painting 1) answered the phone right away 2) agreed to come over right away in the morning for the quote 3) gave us by far the best quote. Throughout the painting process, they continued to be very easy to contact and work with. Giovanni (the owner of Blessed Painting) was very patient with us as we sorted through dozens of possible paint colors. He lent us his paint wheel (a collection of strips showing all the available colors from a paint company) so that we could look at the colors overnight, in different lightings, etc. He also went to pick up small samples of paint for us several times so that we could try them out on the wall in small areas. Aaaand the actual painting: it was fabulous. Giovanni and his helper got through our entire apartment (hall, bathroom, living room, bedroom, kitchen, pantry, closet) in about 3 days. That includes fixing a ton of holes and cracks in the wall and ceiling, painting the ceiling, as well as walls and trim!!! He was very careful about moving our things out of the way, using dropcloth, etc. We're extremely pleased with the way everything came out. A+ I highly recommend his talent, attention to detail, and hard work. My husband and I hired Giovanni after reading the above review, because we too have high ceilings and were looking for quality work at a fair price. Giovanni did an amazing job, achieving an almost perfect line at the seams where we changed colors or had trim. He also got up on the ladder and performed amazing feats requiring great bravery, painting around ducts and and following the curved lines our barreled brick ceilings. The next day I went up the ladder myself to do some work on the support beams and could not believe how scary it was. That really gave me new perspective on what a great job he did. He quoted us a low price to begin with but asked for a little bit more when he got there and realized we were changing colors on him 3 times across 4 walls and there was some tricky terrain he would have to set his ladder up over. This was not a problem at all because he saved us money on not only the paint using his painters discount, but on Scaffolding rental because he used only his ladder. I also was happy to pay a bit more because my husband and I have done a ton of painting in our lives and know just what back breaking work it can be. My husband is a perfectionist to a fault and was VERY impressed with how clean Giovanni (Blesses Painting's) lines were. Giovanni worked alone that day, met us that day at 8 in the morning, worked 8 hours until 5 doing several coats and cleaning up after himself never asking for help (Even though we offered he politely declined several times). Barreto from Blessed Painting came to my loft in downtown for a quick walkthrough to give us an estimate - and we had the estimate that same night. Totally reasonable and said it would take 2 days more or less. We picked out the colors we wanted from Benjamin Moore - the paint brand they recommend - and we even made it a little complicated deciding to do three different shades of gray (dark). Barreto showed up right on time on the first day and worked all day long with his team - they moved furniture on their own and were super careful with a lot of the architectural details we have in our house (brick walls.... tin ceilings... exposed ducts). I noticed a little bit into the job that they weren't using painters tape and it freaked me out a little but my husband and I went through every single room... and it's perfect. It's freakishly perfect everywhere. They cleaned up everything on the first day and came back the next morning for a half day to wrap up the job. Everything is perfect... and the team was incredibly respectful and nice. They didn't even want to listen to the radio when we offered. Would have these guys back in a heartbeat. read more

Giovanni came in to quote us painting for two rooms. It was a rainy week and he had outside painting done, so he asked if we wanted the job to start the next day, we said yes. Giovanni came in with four guys and finished in two days. We've got an old house with horse hair plaster and the walls had lots of old wallpaper on them. They stripped all the wall paper and then sis a skim coat over the walls to make them nice and smooth. That's why you hire an experienced professional like Giovanni. I'd have to say Giovanni and his crew did a perfect job. There were a couple of scratches on our wood flor from where moved out dresser, so I'd make sure they are careful moving your furniture. We filled those scratches in with a wood crayon. His guys also painted and caulked the 1910 window sashes where you unscrew them to replace sash cords. My wife likes the clean look, I had to remove a sash to replace a cord right after, and it wasn't a big problem. If you don't want them caulked and painted, just let them know beforehand. read more

Let me say this: go with Giovanni Years ago I had done two coats of primer in my bedroom to cover up the lavender walls that existed when I moved in. It was tomfoolery. I ended up getting primer everywhere, I could hardly reach the high ceilings even with a step ladder; it was a mess. I procrastinated doing the paint because I was afraid I'd do a sloppy job again. So that's why Yelp is great. Did a search for painting, Blessed Painting came up. I sent him a message through his website, and he called me first thing the next morning. He ballpark quoted me given my room's dimensions of 15 x 15 since I wasn't able to be home for a quote beforehand. He said that if there were any issues that we would discuss any change in that quote when he got here. I didn't want the trim or ceiling done, just the walls. A few days later he calls right on time, and arranges a time to arrive. When he showed up, he came and took a look at my room, then returned with his equipment. When he asked what finish white I'd like on my walls, he explained to me how walls are usually done in "eggshell" finish, and ceilings in "matte" finish and trim in "glossy" finish. Good to know, I hadn't known that. I took his advice on the eggshell. 2 hours later, he's telling me he has completed. I check out his work and he did a wonderful job. He offers to sand, caulk, and paint my window sills since they have seen better days, and he quickly made those look great as well. Highly, highly recommended. I thought this guys were amazing. We called them on a Weds, and were able to meet us at our new house that night to give us an estimate. They originally said they wouldn't be able to start till the following week, but I had said how we were hoping to move by that weekend. Baretto and his crew did a fabulous job on the renovation of the 4-BR second-floor owner's unit of our recently-purchased 100 year old Somerville 2-family. One thing my wife and I admire about Baretto and his crew is their impeccable taste. They demonstrate true pride in their work on everything they do, big and small. Where some painters might take a shortcut, Baretto does it right. The home was being rewired, so there were numerous holes cut by the electrician to pull the new wires. The living room was dark and dingy because the two double-hung windows opened to our enclosed front porch. Baretto brought in a contractor who cut two new matching windows into the adjoining wall. That contractor, like everyone Baretto brought into the house, was professional, trustworthy, and friendly. The interior trim on the new windows matches the old trim (even though the size is different) that was removed. Baretto and his crew finished both the inside and the outside where the old windows had been (the outside work at no cost). The rest of the home was dingy and dark. In many places, old horsehair plaster was barely attached. Ceilings were in danger of coming down. In the kitchen, a previous owner had replaced the original wainscoting with dated and dingy ceramic tile. The damaged plaster was removed, the ceilings repaired and covered, the tiled portion of the kitchen wall stripped and sheet-rocked. This was a big job, requiring Baretto and his crew to be here full-time for several weeks. We now have a bright, beautiful home with gorgeously painted walls, trim, and ceiling throughout. Family and friends come in the front door and immediately say "WOW!", because the front stairwell is now bright and beautiful. Everybody loves our new living room windows, it transforms the entire home. Our kitchen is now a bright and beautiful gathering place, especially during busy holiday seasons. This work was done about six months ago, and we've had absolutely zero problems afterwards. No callbacks, no hidden issues, none of those unpleasant surprises that so often reveal themselves a few months after the contractor finishes. Baretto delivered everything we asked (including handling all the necessary approvals and permits from the town), and gently guided us through some decisions that we hadn't considered. Baretto and his crew were trustworthy, easy to work with, and professional about everything they did. My wife and I both noticed and commented on the top-notch crew that Baretto brought with him. I've been meaning to write this review for a while - I hadn't gotten around to it because I knew that the reviews are all good already but Giovanni deserves it. Giovanni and his crew are awesome. They did 3 jobs for me (interior at my house, interior at my rental, big f'ing mess leaking ceiling repair) and each time they did an amazing job for a good price. In our house, they did a great job with repairing cracked plaster and replacing missing molding. The leak repair was also incredible - I wish we had taken before/after photos. Beware!!! Would not use Blessed Painting in Spring/Summer 2011- Unable to deliver quality service and overall bad business practice. I was painting the entire inside of my house and I went with Giovanni based on the reviews I had read on yelp. He was approx. $900 more than other quotes I received for the same job, but we went with him because he said the job would take 6 days with 4 men working on the job. ( Other painters would take 2 weeks and only 2 people working on job) We made it clear that we chose him because of his timeline, and the amount of people he would have on the job. Being 8 months pregnant and needing to move into our house, timing was crucial to us, and quite obvious to Giovani. Unfortunately, he failed us on many levels... 1. The 6 day timeline Giovani promised was not met. We are currently on day 12 and the project is still not done. 2. The 4 people Giovani promised would be working on the house to ensure the timeline would be met, was a lie. He only had 4 people there on 2 days. The rest of the days it was one man ( not Giovani) 3. Giovani verbally told me that he would paint the back porch of my house as part of the job, to match another quote I received, and then when I asked him about it he told me he would not do it, because we did not have it in writing. 4. Giovani told us the other day that the project was finished, yet when we went by the house to check it out, it was clearly not done. It really made us question the quality of his work. We expected to see some minor things that needed to be fixed, but we were shocked at what Giovani called "done" - they were major issues. The front door still wasn't painted, a column in our house was only primed not painted, the closets were not done, the edging in one room was a disaster, the cabinets that we had painted were still not hung in our kitchen- they were scattered throughout the house in various rooms, there was paint on our new hardwood floors in almost every room, and it goes on!! 5. Any time I called Giovani to set up a meeting to go over our concerns he would cancel on us ( minutes before the meeting) or be too busy to meet with us. While I have no doubt that Giovani did a great job for people in the past, I would use serious caution when considering him now. He is obviously overworked and unable to meet the standards that a quality painter should. I am hoping he will rectify the issues we encountered, but as of now, we are extremely disappointed with his service. read more

Watching so much HGTV inspired me to want to paint my new condo by myself. I have painted many rooms in my lifetime, but once I moved in, I noticed how many scuff marks were on the walls and doors in the place. The living room and hallway were also a god awful pink hue and a small room was a really dark depressing blue. I would have taken my time to do the job myself (2 bedrooms, 1 small office, living room, and kitchen), but my family was coming in 1.5 weeks for Thanksgiving! I called Blessed Painting after the awesome reviews on here. I also called two other companies for a quote. One emailed me back to call him. I didn't have time to chase them. The other was great, but more of a interior designer and I had neither the budget nor time to work with him though he was wonderful (see my review for Michael Noel). Since this is not a condo I will live in forever, I just wanted an insured company to slap paint on the walls with a week notice. This was definitely a job for professionals! Giovanni was great . . . he must have tried to call me multiple times to make arrangements to view the space. I felt bad because I don't have a job that allows me to take calls at work so when I finally got back to Giovanni, I thought he would not want to hear from me anymore. But he was pleasant and really friendly. He told me that he though he could meet my timeline and we made an appointment for us to meet in person at my condo. Giovanni was so sweet and gave me a very competitive rate to paint not only the walls and trim in each of the rooms mentioned above, BUT also the room and closet doors! He even offered to paint the ceiling for an additional low rate, but I wasn't ready for that investment and he respected my decision. He said he could start the job the following Monday and finish by Tuesday. I was still seeking other quotes so I told him I would get back to him. A few quotes later both in person and online, I decided to give Blessed Painting the job. I called Giovanni with the news and he was so excited and happy for me. I can't explain it, but his friendly and jolly manner remind me of the main character played by Roberto Benigni in the movie "Life is Beautiful." In fact, every phone call ends with Giovanni cheerfully saying "bye" three times or more. It's tres cute! On the first day of painting, G's crew show up early (I requested they arrive at 6:45am and Giovanni didn't object), but don't ring my bell until the exact time so as not to disturb me is my guess. Anyway, long story short, they work all day and at 3pmish, Giovanni calls me to tell me that he got another gig and he is bringing in two more men to complete the job THAT day. By the time I come home from a meeting at 9pm, my condo is immaculate and the place looks amazing! The paint job really made the place look new again AND unlike Anna F, the painters didn't leave one trace of paint or dirt anywhere in my rooms. In fact, I had left cold bottled water in the fridge for them and they hadn't even touched that. They also got every little detail from painting the window sills to painting the tips of the Venetian blinds to match the room color. As a result, my place was extremely presentable for the fam on Thanksgiving and everybody who has visited so far compliments me on the paint job. I would not hesitate to hire Blessed Painting again in the future, especially if Giovanni still owns the business! read more

I found Blessed through Yelp (thanks guys!) and my first impression was positive -- I called him, he called me back. I have an old Victorian and I had 8 colors and various types of paint and stains to apply. Blessed did very good prep and carpentry. Very careful painting. And solid clean-up every day. His team was a really pleasure to work with every day. When the whole job was done I loved every bit.... except the color of the front door. after reading the reviews on yelp, i decided to contact giovanni. i had moved into a 1 bedroom and wanted the white walls painted so i didnt feel i lived in an asylum. i sent a request for a quote via his website and he called me back the same day to set up an appt asap. he came the next day and quoted me $800 for 3 rooms, all supplies included. thats really a good price and i was expecting to pay a bit more. he did a great job, even swept behind the fridge. when i came back, everything was where is belonged and the walls look great. hes a super nice and friendly guy. read more

Very happy with Barreto and his team. They did two upstairs bedrooms for us. He came to do a walk-through and estimate the first evening I contacted him, and gave a reasonable estimate. Easy to communicate with via text & phone. They arrived exactly on time, and he and his fellow painter were polite and professional. I felt very comfortable with them. After receiving many (much higher) quotes, we finally got in contact with Barreto and his team, and I was immediately impressed with his punctuality, clarity of description of services, communication and most of all price for services. We hired Barreto and his team to paint the interior of our Beacon Hill home. We solicited bids from a number of other painters in the area and Barreto came in at least 1k lower than the other companies. Despite his lower price, he did an absolutely fantastic job - I can't say enough great things about his work and just generally about how he treats his customers and runs his business. Every person that has come into our home since has commented on how wonderful the paint looks. The condo is about 1200 sq feet and has vaulted ceilings and wainscoting and mouldings throughout. He painted the walls, ceilings, mouldings, doors and windows and did it all in two days, despite initially estimating that it would take four days. He also came back twice after the initial paint job to touch up various areas that we requested and did not even question it. As yet another testament to his great customer service, he would not take payment until the painting was complete and we were fully satisfied. Called Barreto for a quote to paint our new home and received and immediate response. I had a quote in my email within 24 hours of visit. He was definitely the least expensive of all 3 quotes we received so we decided to hire him. Team is hardworking and a delight to work with from beginning to end. I read some reviews about clients having their floors newly refinished (as did we) and they saw paint spots, but I told Barreto that every floor must be covered and they did just that. They Cleaned up after themselves daily and took all trash with them. House came out great! We're going to have them back to paint our basement soon. Highly recommend! read more

He and his crew take pride in their work, and they did a beautiful job on my condo. They renovated a 3rd floor loft, both the walls and floors (they sanded/painted the floors and they look magnificent!), and did a beautiful job repairing/repainting a clawfoot tub and the bathroom it was in. The team was really professional and nice to be around. They did a great job painting 4 rooms and a hallway in our house. These guys were so fast that I couldn't believe it. Giovanni painted the interior of my entire condo (about 1,000 sq ft). This included all walls, ceiling, and trim. I received 4 quotes from different painters and Giovanni was priced significantly lower than all the rest. Giovanni was willing and able to work with my schedule and start the job immediately. He went out of his way to buy the brand of paint that I had requested and proceeded to work 12 hour days Monday through Saturday to get the job done. He paid a lot of attention to detail in prepping the walls, trim etc. Giovanni even vacuumed behind my refrigerator when he pulled it out to paint behind it (which is seriously appreciated!). The end result was great. I couldn't be more satisfied with the job he did. Initially I was worried that by selecting the lowest priced painter, the end result would suffer, but I was gladly proven wrong! We were extremely satisfied with the progress of the work and decided to extend the scope of painting. Baretto's team did an excellent job in painting our house, and I am very happy with their service. They are very professional and their work is efficient with high quality. There were multiple holes in the ceiling and walls due to the installation of the LED lights, and they patched the holes seamlessly and painted the entire ceiling without extra cost.
