Teenage girl whipped the ingredients together, blended them and struggled to get the concoction thin enough to pour from the blender (possibly too much ice.....???). Left the store and found the shake to be very low on flavor. Met up with my wife nearby and she felt the same. The counter girl's mood was not impressive and I wondered if she was having a less-than-stellar chat with the young man sitting at the bar. In a nutshell, we were not impressed with the quality of this shake. For $11.00 I would expect to be blown away by a delightedly flavorful drink.........but this one was pretty blah. So I had seen this place a couple of weeks ago while walking my dog. I wasn't quite sure what type of store it was by looking through the windows. On one side of the building it appeared to be a bar and on the other side it was said to be a tanning studio. Any way I was again in the area so I went inside to grab a protein drink. I was pleasantly surprised. I was greeted promptly and happily. I ordered a cake batter protein drink I assumed it was made with milk so I asked what kind of milk and she said all of our drinks are made with water. I ordered a small because I wasn't sure if I would like it. It was delicious and the price was only $5.00 that's an extra plus in this day. Right ? I asked some more questions and was told this is a Kava bar that relaxes you. It stays open until 1 am sometimes. I've heard of this stuff anxious to try real soon. On the other side of the business is a tanning salon with items for sale that seem pretty interesting and also clothing items. The vibe in the bar is chic cool And relaxing. They're doing something right--teaching their kids about business, hard work, and how to treat people. Not many places feel this welcoming. My friends and I have come in a few times for the smoothies and kava but the manager Jaiden was extremely rude and has some of the worst hospitality I've ever encountered. He cussed at my friend from across the room for eating ramen then took it out of her hands and threw it in the trash. Don't recommend coming here. The Root of Happiness team in Rancho has way better hospitality and kava! Edit: Since I am unable to respond to the owners comment. The manager yelled "you can't fucking eat that in here, it fucking stinks, throw it out or I will" and then ripped it from her hands. I understand the outside food policy, and she should've thrown it out the first time. However, simply asking her to leave due to not following store policy would've been the most appropriate response in my opinion. Physically removing something from a guests hands, is inappropriate and unprofessional. Regardless of what a guest is doing, I've never seen a manager escalate a situation to a physical level. This is one of my favorite places in El dorado county. Not only are their food/shakes absolutely wonderful but the family who owns Blender is nothing but pure amazing goodness. They radiate positivity and offer a sense of family you just can't find anymore. I've had multiple shakes and they are all incredible but what you really need to try is the colossal banana bowl - i think it's top 5 best things i've ever had in my life and it's packed with so much protein and love. I decided to pop in for the first time while running errands. I was barely greeted by a young lady at the front, she acted like I was a big inconvenience the whole time I was there, not pleasant at all, super moody and rude. I said it was my first time visiting, what a cool place this is and wasn't familiar with the menu. She barely acknowledged that I said anything. I asked if they had any vegan friendly shakes. She didn't seem to know what that meant, but that's ok not everyone does. She then tells me they have 3 options to choose from, Blueberry, Strawberry and Chocolate. I said great, I'll have the strawberry please. She asked what size and I said the medium. I get my drink, and it's a super small cup (Starbucks tall size) and it's chocolate. I honestly couldn't be bothered saying anything to correct the mistake because of how terrible the customer service was. I took one sip, it tasted like crunchy blended ice with barely any flavour. It got tossed in the trash. This place has lots of potential, great location and it has a cool vibe in there. I don't understand how this young lady thinks it's ok to treat patrons this way and stay employed!! I'd be very upset if I were the owner and my staff treated paying customers this way. This is a "health" drink place selling mostly drinks/shakes/teas with protein powders, flavorings, and add-ins, but we didn't see any drinks that had actual fruit or vegetables blended in them. It's also a Kava and Kratom bar. Yes, Kratom, which was banned in San Diego and Oceanside in 2016 due to concerns over its safety and potential for abuse. City ordinances classified it as a "novel psychoactive compound," grouping it with synthetic drugs like bath salts and spice, despite it being a natural herb. Our observation is that Blend is geared mostly for a younger crowd as we rarely see anyone over 30 inside when we walk by, especially in the evenings. If protein powder drinks and artificially flavored "boosted" teas are your thing (along with loud music and modern vibe mood lighting) this place is sure to please. We, however, tried two drinks (with neither Kava or Kratom in them) and they were honestly terrible. We had a sip of each and threw them out. Artificial tasting, gritty, and unappetizing. To be fair, we are not 20-something's looking to feel "relaxed" with Kava or seeking energy/pain relief from Kratom so we can't speak to how those drinks taste. However, we can speak to the protein powder flavor drinks and we don't recommend this place for those. The service was aloof, very slow, but friendly. As others have commented, the prices are high and the music is loud. If it's your first time, order a small until you're sure this is the right place for you. This is no Neckar or Jamba Juice, that's for sure, so be aware of that going in. In fact, they don't seem to have drinks where they blend in any real fruit or vegetables at all, rather they are blending flavored protein powder into water. I've been to Blend three times now. The workers have always been so warm and welcoming - feels like family. My biggest problem is that I just wanted to keep trying everything and so many things look good. I've had the post workout smoothie (over 40 g of protein and low carb/sugar) two times now. My Vanilla Almond oatmeal was really good and my wife's was as well. The acai bowl was also really good. I will keep going back for sure, especially after my workouts. I took my son for an Açaí bowl and it was quite good. It was large, although it's expensive, so I'm glad they provided and got what we paid for. I got oatmeal, it was literally two bites. It was 8.00 for two bites of oatmeal. Yes, it had PB powder in it, but this was literally a sample size of what you would get anywhere else. Overall, this place is expensive and I'm fine paying a bit more for some things, but I would re evaluate charging so much for oatmeal. The service what great and atmosphere was pleasant.
