Nurses and doctor were all great, facility is clean and organized. Front desk could be nicer, but overall I highly recommend it.

I love Dr. Markowitz. I usually don't choose male doctors because they sometimes have very clinical…read morebedside manners and are not very personable but when I confided in a coworker that I had been experiencing GI issues, she urged me to try to get an appointment with him. I'm so happy I did because he actually made me feel better, not only physically but happier to know that he genuinely cares about my well being. My coworker warned me that an appointment with him would likely take weeks to a few months to receive but his administrative staff, Michelle and Kathy, are so great and I was able to see him a few days after my first call to the office. They are on top of his schedule and they call patients when openings become available so as to accommodate. I work in the medical field so I know we can be hypochondriacs but I trust him enough to not second guess his opinions or directives. It is refreshing and calming to know that my doctor wants me to be well as much as I want to be well, to listen to my concerns and address them and make me feel as though I have a part to play in decisions about my health care. I am so happy to have found Dr. Markowitz. He is a treasure to the field of medicine. More doctors should carry themselves, professionally, as he does.

I spent almost a day researching GI docs in the New York area. I made two appointments...one with Dr. Markowtiz and one with some other doc. Both doctors I met with have mega-credentials and are in the "Best Doctors in America" book. However, the first guy I saw was way too fast and seemed to have no empathy for me at all. He was part of a faculty practice at Mt. Sinai and had some lady doing her fellowship meet with me for the majority of the visit. I did not wait several months for an appointment to meet with some random woman doing her fellowship. Then I went to see Dr. Markowtiz. It took me like 3 or 4 months to get an appointment with him....but I was fine with waiting...as this was not pressing. Dr. Markowitz is a very personable down to earth doctor who takes his time and listens to what you have to say. He saw me personally, not some assistant or resident...it was only him. I could tell right away that this guy is an absolute pro. He did the procedure, which was nothing and I'm fine. I highly recommend Dr. Markowitz. From what I gather, he is one of the best GI docs in the country. And on top of that, he is a nice guy.

I really appreciated how she talked through each step of the exam. I will definitely return for future checkups. P.S. ... editing the review only to add that I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Ottenheimer to anyone looking for a GYN doc.

Let me preface this post by saying as soon as I'm done here, I'll be writing to HIPAA…read more Doctor Ottenheimer has one of the worst bedside manners I have encountered in my life. I had read about her on Yelp and had one encounter about scheduling where I found her rude and dismissive, but being that I only ever dealt with the awesome nurses (especially Jessica) I never felt the need to change doctors. However my last interaction was beyond the pale. Some backstory. After having some intermenstrual bleeding I got a sonogram and was told I had an endometrial polyp. I spoke to Dr. Ottenheimer who told me they could do a polyp removal surgery in her office, but that she did not offer anesthesia and I should take 400mg of Tylenol instead (?!) I had read horror stories about this surgery and women who said doing it without anesthesia experienced the worst pain of their life so opted instead to do the procedure at my fertility clinic. Dr. Ottenheimer seemed frustrated by this but I was appreciative she talked it over with me and called me back (side bar: is this really the world we live in when we applaud a doctor for returning our calls). She also said she'd be curious about the findings but didn't elaborate and said she had a patient and had to go, making me worried I might be looking for something more serious. Cut to a few days later. I have the procedure done with my fertility clinic and after two different attempts to locate the polyp they don't find it. The fertility doc suspects it could be flattened against my cervix and easily missed or perhaps the sono showed a false read. I call to discuss these findings (or lack thereof) with Dr. Ottenheimer and decide my next steps as I'm looking to get pregnant via IVF and can't risk a polyp messing that up (not to mention the risk that something else could be wrong). This is how the conversation goes: Me: Hi Dr. Ottenheimer, got my results back from the procedure and they didn't find a polyp. Her: Oh. That sucks. A long pause. Me: Yeah. So...I'm wondering what you recommend because I'm trying to get pregnant and I'm not sure if I have a polyp or I don't. Her: It's standard for them to take a sample. Did they take a sample? Me: I'm not sure. I can ask. A long silence. Me: So should I come back in or - Her: No. A long silence. Me: So I guess since I have an annual coming up you might be able to get more information then? Her: Yeah. Just come in then. I have to run. Despite this being an incredibly trying and overwhelming process for me, at no point did I feel heard, supported, communicated to or informed. And I'm not the first person to report this. Honestly this woman should have her medical license taken away. She is not fit to be out in society.

Dr. Buxbaum wanted me to finish the current prescription I was on before beginning a new medication…read moredespite our agreement that my current prescription was not helping my symptoms. Her reasoning? She didn't want the remainder of my current prescription to wind up in the water supply: "better in your body than in the water". She was prioritizing the environment over patient health which is ridiculous because there are responsible ways to dispose of leftover medication - I wouldn't just put it in the trash. A few days after my appointment, the drugstore still didn't have the prescription for my new medication. I figured she'd forgotten so I sent a note to the practice who said they'd remind her. Still nothing. 2.5 weeks after my appointment, Dr. Buxbaum sent me a note saying she was sending over my prescription. It's been a month and still nothing. Whether she forgot or was hoping to "force" me to continue taking the medication that didn't help my symptoms, this is not a doctor I would recommend to anyone.
