I very rarely splurge on things like getting hair and makeup done for events, but I had a good friend's wedding to attend so I made a last minute appointment at Blast. Shellie did my hair and makeup and really did a phenomenal job! She took extra care and attention to style my hair just like I wanted without taking a super long time. My style lasted all night and even looked good the following day. She did a great job with my makeup as well. It was great for photos without being overly dramatic. Meh. I think I caught them on an off day. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Bea was my stylist and seemed like she was not thrilled to be there. I'm not the type that needs chatter but she was maybe in a bad mood. I've seen reviews on here that say their experience was great, so again, maybe an off day. The blow out was ok, not great. The salon is nice, good location. I usually enjoy going to get some pampering like lashes or cut/color, massage, etc. but I want the whole experience to be worth the $$. I would actually give 2.5 stars if possible. I went for a partial up do with all of my hair being blown out before the stylist began the updo. For a blow out (without wash) my hair looked excellent. However, if you are at all inclined to do things naturally (for example, I have started using sodium laurel sulfate free products because SLS is a carcinogen) you should ask them to not use any product. There was zero ventilation and overwhelming fumes during and after the solid minute the stylist was spraying my hair and within a couple hours I developed a cough that didn't go away for 2 days (with no other symptoms to lead me to believe it was just the onset of a cold). You will have to proactively ask for no product because there is zero communication before doing so. After the blowout the stylist began pinning my hair half up with a fishtail braid pinned in back, as asked for. When she was done she said nothing and just brought me a hand mirror, looking very pleased with herself. Wouldn't you ask a client if she was happy? Very odd. I had to break it to her that there wasn't enough volume on top and that parts of it felt insecure and needed more pins. I didn't even bother telling her that my bangs needed to be slightly curled. I just did it myself when I got home. I guess I expected a little more customer service since she had just earned $65 (pre-tip) for 40 minutes worth of work. read more

This review is based solely on their customer service and business choices because I canceled before getting my hair done. I booked two appointments for my sister and I on New Year's Eve because they had the right time available and were $5 cheaper than Blo. This was Tuesday. Then Thursday I get a call from their receptionist saying that the price of the service was going to be raised from $35 to $40 because it "is a holiday and they have to work." I ended up canceling because I do not want to give them my business. The receptionist told me that the owner had said she was raising the prices because she had to pay her employees time-and-a-half on a holiday. That is this business owner's decision (I have to work on NYE and I'm not getting paid overtime), and should have come out of her own pocket or at least been factored into the pricing long before TODAY, when it was almost too late to make any appointments elsewhere. I will never spend my money at this business that chooses to pass expenses on to the customer in a dishonest and scheming way. **RESPONSE to owner's comment below** I hate to go back-and-forth like this, but unfortunately the Blast owner's claim that they were still the cheapest blow dry bar in town on NYE is simply false. I was able to make a last-minute appointment at Blo at the Domain and it was $40--the same price as Blast's hastily increased NYE price. I know I didn't save any money, but I didn't spend any extra and I felt better spending my money at an honest business. read more

I called Blast in crisis on a Saturday at noon. My brothers wedding was that day and the bridal hair and makeup did not show up. We were scrambling to find someone that could do 9 bridesmaids and the brides hair. Janous(the owner) was amazing!!! She treated the dilemma as if it were her own and started making calls to find us someone on zero notice. Crystal showed up about an hour later and COMPLETELY FREAKING ROCKED IT!! She is amazing!! I was skeptical about this place after reading the reviews, but it was the only place that had an opening to get me in to have my hair done for a wedding I was standing in so I booked an appointment. I figured I would give them a shot. Let me start off with I was late for my appointment, yet they were still kind enough to put me with a stylist who was sitting around which I really appreciated. The guy was really nice and gave me the "Kim Kardashian" of big hair and curls which was fine because I was going to pull half of it back anyways. However he did drop his curling iron on me TWICE! I have a burn mark going across my leg. I am a burn victim so at the time I brushed it off and explained how I have felt worse burns. I only brushed it off because I didn't think it was going to leave a mark but it did about 3 inches long. Fortunately I still have some cream that helped soothe it the next day and will hopefully keep it from leaving a scar. I already have enough burn scars as it is. The second time he dropped the curling iron it hit my shoulder, luckily my shirt saved my skin! My hair looked ok. As I was sitting there I noticed these little cards requesting a certain amount for tips. It said a good tip is anywhere from $7-$10. I was kinda annoyed by that because to me a tip is based on the service that was given and I decide what I want to leave you. Anyways I check out and I left the lowest suggested amount. I know I could have chosen to leave less or nothing at all but the guy was nice and I didn't want to seem like a cheapskate either. So let's jump to maybe 30 minutes after I have left the salon and am sitting in the chair at MAC having my makeup done and I get a phone call from the salon. They left a vm saying there was a problem with my card. So I check my account because I know I have over a grand in there. The only problem with my card is that the salon ran my card for 3 separate charges. Two charges of $42 and one charge of $77!! WTF!! So I call and let them know that yeah the problem was they ran my card for 3 separate charges!! I spoke with who I think was the owner and she was very apologetic and asked me to give her to the end of the day to fix the problem. So I'm out at the wedding venue trying to enjoy my time with the bridezilla and bridesmaids as much as possible before the wedding and I get another phone call from the owner (I let her know I was at a wedding) letting me know there was a problem with their credit card machine or company and she would call me on Monday to let me know if she was going to run my card again, hopefully by then the charges could be dropped from my account. Well come Monday no phone call, but I was ok with that because those 3 charges were still pending so I assumed they knew that, that's why they didn't call me. Well here we are Wednesday morning and now there is a 4th charge pending!! I am just like most people that live pay check to paycheck, rent had gone through and I have used my card since then and instead of having just the one charge of $42 pending I have an additional $166.00 dollars still pending from the multiple times the ran my card after I left on Saturday!! So guess what with those charges pending I am showing I am negative in my bank account because I have since used my card for things like dinner and gas because guess what those other 3 charges are still pending and now a 4th! Which I should not have been charged again until those first 3 charges dropped off of my account!!! Furious is an understatement!! I don't know how much longer it will be until those 3 charges drop off but until then I can not use my bank account because they have screwed my account up by running multiple charges it isn't even funny! I will probably never go there again and I will not be recommending this place to any of my friends or any of their friends. I just don't understand how they felt they had the right to continue to run my card for multiple charges. Now I need to call my bank to see what can be done. Only reason I took the time to write this review was because I would hate for this to happen to anyone else and I am furious I never got a phone call asking if it was ok to run my card for 4th time...had I gotten that phone call I would have said no not until these charges fall off. Even though they were very nice nice does not fix the -$161 it shows with those charges pending. I hope no one else has to experience this at this salon. Again beware of a place that will continue to run your card, even after you have left their building!! read more

Pros: price, availability of appointments Cons: blow out didn't hold I came in for a blow out for my rehearsal dinner... and I warned the lady who did my hair that I have gotten a blow out at drybar (in Dallas) before and it only held for about 3 hours, so she would probably need to use more hairspray. She said that it wouldn't be a problem because they do it differently... they basically leave the round brushes as rollers while blow-drying the rest of the hair. Sounded like a good idea, but it did not even hold until I got home! My family asked if I ended up going to my hair appointment because they couldn't tell. I ended up having to curl my hair on my own. I also noticed that one of the girls that was there before me wasn't done even when I left, so I think they were just trying to squeeze me in between appointments since I showed up for my appointment early. I wish she would have just taken the time to make sure it would hold and add more hairspray. read more

I had my first experience at Blast on Saturday afternoon which I am sure is one of the busiest times for them. I have been to other blow dry bars in Austin and always had a blast treating myself to this little indulgence when I don't feel like doing my own hair for a special occasion. This experience was a little different, it was a little rushed, not really friendly, and not fun at all. Lacey did a great job on my hair and she did listen to what I would like. But the experience of walking in and being barely acknowledged and then being told to sit down without letting me know Lacey was on her way was a very weird experience. It wouldn't be my first recommendation for a blow dry bar in Austin but they were able to get me in with only a couple days notice and their prices are reasonable. read more

I used Blast Blow Dry to for bridal hair and make up and wedding party hair and make up, and I had a wonderful experience with them. After my first trial, I didn't feel the look was 100% what I wanted, and the owner, Venus, offered me a second hair and make up trial at no additional cost. At the second trial, I used Crystal for hair and Phillip for make-up, and they both gave me exactly the look I was hoping for. I brought better pictures the second time. I thought it was exceptionally helpful of Venus to offer this second trial. The day of, everyone at Blast was very calming and even brought us champagne. My hair and make up looked stunning--Crystal and Phillip made me into the beautiful bride I wanted to be. Not only that, but my 6 bridesmaids, and mom and mother and law all had their hair done too and looked incredible. The moms and 2 bridesmaids elected to have their make up done, and again, it turned out very nice. I paid for the bridal party and mother's hair, as well as my own hair and make up. I really feel that I got an incredible value, and even added on gratuity beyond what was included because I really felt that Blast went above and beyond for me. Going to the salon the day of was a really fun experience. I got married on a Friday, and we mostly had the place to ourselves. All of the staff seemed genuinely excited. They didn't act like the wedding was just another routine event, but truly made me feel special and taken care of. I am SO glad that I booked Blast for my wedding. I made my first foray into the world of blo recently (yes, I know that sounds bad) and I'm addicted! I made an online appointment with Lacey (bonus points for the online booking feature) and set myself up for a blowout. Upon arrival, Lacey was really easy to talk to and she totally got what I wanted even though I was as indecisive as they come. To be fair, I was a bit skeptical during the process, if only because she'd stuck 6-7 round brushes all over my head for the hair to set and my head starting to feel about as heavy as a bowling ball. However, in no time, she untwisted the brushes and voila - a beautiful Hollywood-worthy do! I'll definitely be coming back. read more

This place is amazing! We came here for blowouts for my sisters bachelorette party. They took care of all 6 of us in a very timely manner. The owner was so amazingly sweet and made sure we were all happy with our stylists as well as hairstyles. My girl Abby gave me one of the best blow outs I've had.. Lasted for days! When the bride was a bit uneasy with the way her hair was turning out the owner made sure that she had it the way she wanted it before we left. We all felt very comfortable in the salon. I had a superb makeup application by Philip, for a photo shoot for business. She made my skin look flawless, my small deep set eyes look large and clear, and my smile lovely! This 55 year old looked younger, but still natural and like me. In addition, the application lasted from early in the morning and all through the day. Philip also was meticulous about my health and comfort--I'd been concerned about doing this during the pandemic but I felt safe throughout the process. I learned several excellent techniques and about the products she used during the application that really helped. Finally, Philip was very kind, pleasant and warm--it was an extremely enjoyable experience during this hard time, and I really appreciate the wonderful job she did and how fun she made my application! I recommend her for any type of application, and I'm really looking forward to returning to her for my next make up session and application. read more

The team got together with us for the consultation and totally put their best feet forward to get us glammed up for the night. If my husband didn't protest, I would take Fitz, Shelli and Tess home to live with us. Fitz took care of my sister, creating a fabulous Betty Page look. Shelli did my hair in a fun Gwen Stefani-inspired rockabilly updo, and Shelli did our make-up better than we could ever do ourselves. The owners are beautiful, gracious sisters who are great businesswomen. The best part of being there was that everyone really cared what we wanted and made it happen. I LOVE coming here! I tried this place for the first time right around the holidays and continue to come whenever I feel like getting dolled up. I have incredibly curly, and sometimes frizzy, hair. I knew I liked Stephanie the moment I told her I wanted a fabulous blow out and for her to make me look like J.LO (yes, I'm ridiculous), but she ALWAYS delivers. She also takes her time shampooing and conditioning my hair, which I really appreciate. It's therapeutic! The ladies at the front are also very welcoming. The last time I was there, they easily accommodated me after I accidentally forgot to save the appointment I had made online. I also want to add that they are both thorough and fast. My only suggestion (if they want to take this fantastic business to another level) would be to offer drinks. Nonetheless, they are great at what they do! read more

Blast Blow Dry is the best blow dry bar in town (and trust me, I've tried them all). First, you can schedule online, and pick your stylist (which you can't do at Blo). This is important for me because I have very curly hair and not everyone understands it. Also, you don't have to go through the hassle of calling, leaving a message, playing the compare schedule game, etc. Lacey and Heather both regularly do my hair, and both are fantastic. They never lecture me about my hair (which many people do if they conflate curly with damaged). Jinous, who owns the place with her sister, always greets me by name (even when we pass each other on town lake running trail) and has a really good take on the business. She seems to treat her employees well and will help wash hair/serve clients/run the register to keep everything on schedule. Jinous got me signed up for the auto pay because I was coming so regularly (once a week) and her deal would save me money. Amanda, the receptionist - is very nice. She helps work out my auto deals, will call if my stylist changes, makes sure Lacey gets tipped the next day if I forgot cash for a tip, and is just generally a great face for the company. Tess did my makeup beautifully for an event. All in all, great place and I really recommend it! I'm a tough one to please, and Blast does a great job. read more

I wasn't "blown away". It seemed to take an excessively long time for a blow out; about 2 hours. It looked great when she was immediately finished, but then all the curl fell out as soon as I stepped outside. Wished they would have used more product so it would hold longer. At times the brushing was painful, and I have a pretty high threshold for pain when it comes to beauty so that's saying a lot. And it was a little awkward because I over heard the receptionist on the phone offer a woman a coupon if she came in but then when I went to pay she didn't offer me the same coupon, doesn't seem fair. I think the price point is too high for what you get, but I was happy to pay and leave a nice sized tip because my stylist was super sweet, listened very closely to what I wanted and, I could tell, really wanted to do a good job! In the future I would probably try to get an appointment with my normal stylist first, and probably only go back if it was a last resort. Sorry Blast, I really like the concept, but ultimately, I was left an unsatisfied customer. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I came in with a 3:30 appointment for hair and makeup with a friend for prom, we had to be at picture at 6. We thought that we would have enough time, but we were wrong. We walked in and the place was packed. Didn't get seated with a stylist until 4. The man that straightened my hair fried it to a crisp and then told me he didn't know how to braid so I had to wait another 30 minutes for another stylist to finish so she could braid my hair. The stylist gave me tight cornrow-like braids that I had NOT asked for. At 4:45 I sat back down in the waiting room and noticed there were only 2 people doing makeup and an entire waiting room in line. I asked the lady at the front desk if it was going to be possible to be out of there on time or if I should go home and do my own makeup. She assured me that I would be out of there by 5:15. I was seated in the makeup chair at 5:10. The man that did my makeup did NOT listen to me whatsoever. I told him I didn't want eyeliner, he put eyeliner. I sad part is I was running so late that there was just no time to fix it. After one of the worst "makeovers" I have experienced, I left Blast at 5:45. I looked nothing like I had asked either stylist for and felt very sad. In the car, I rushed to fix my makeup. I wouldn't even let my mom look at me when I got home before I ran to go fix the mess on my head. I WILL NOT BE USING BLAST EVER AGAIN and I know my friends won't be either. Blast put a damper on my entire prom. Blo Drybar is much better, and please get your makeup done by a real artist. read more

I told the stylist that I was in town for a wedding so it was very important to me that my hair do last all day. Even jokingly (but I was really serious lol) I asked the stylist to use the whole bottle of hair spray on me. Got my hair washed, blow dried, & styled within 35-45 min. The stylist was very sweet & easy to talk to. Left the place around 10:45 am with pretty curls but by 3 pm my hair was flat. I could not tell that my hair was done other than the fact that my hair smelled awesome & the ends were curled. I previously had a blow out somewhere else where my pretty curls turned into pretty waves the next day. I was hoping for the same result but instead got straighten hair with only the ends slightly curled. Very disappointed. Complimentary drinks would have made this visit slightly worth it but there were none. My hair is naturally wavy so it can hold hairstyles. I think that the products they use weren't enough to hold my hair. However, I do wish the stylist would have spent a little longer applying heat to my hair. Maybe that could have made a difference who knows. Based on my experience,I say it's best to spend a little more on the hair & sip on mimosas while being pampered somewhere else. read more

We had a party of about 14 and the Blast Blowdry staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was PERFECT and we were well accommodated !!
