I needed insulation added to my attic, and Kevin came out right away, did a thorough and professional inspection of my home, and sat down with me to give his recommendations, including photos of areas in my attic where the work would be performed. He answered my questions and did NOT give a hard sell. The work crew (led by their foreman, Joe) came out as scheduled, were professional, got the job done, and cleaned up after themselves -- I wouldn't have known they were there. During my nonprofit days, I met with these guys to propose a partnership to do some retrofit work for a housing development program I managed. It didn't work out because of some problems on our end, but I really appreciated what they put together and they really seemed to know their stuff. Fast forward and I contracted these guys to do a mostly-spray foam job for an attic. Greg was very helpful on the sales end and seemed very experienced with navigating the maze that is "building science versus historic preservation on a budget." The job took a little bit longer to complete than they had anticipated (four days versus what was supposed to be two-- they had some equipment problems), which turned out to only be a minor inconvenience for us since the space was so well ventilated and the weather so warm that we were able to hang out in the house sooner rather than later (we had planned on being out of the house for a full week and it was not necessary). The basement rim joist job was way cleaner than the attic job, although it was also way more straightforward. I was a little bit skeptical of how inexperienced the installers were who came to work on the attic job, but with the exception of a couple of minor messes that I probably could have stepped in to prevent (overspray in various locations), the job was done immaculately and has been amazing. This seems pretty indicative of a strong training regimen from Blanket, as I've met supposed veterans of the trades who have been doing the same thing wrong for many years, versus these guys, who appear to have been trained correctly (What was previously a 140 degree space now never gets above 90 some) and we're waiting to be able to install more between the VCL and the drywall since we allowed for a bunch more insulation there. Unbeknownst to them, Blanket also underbid the competition by a pretty hefty sum, so that made up for any minor frustrations. read more

All I can say is this company provides the best service that money can by. They take the time to complete a full inspection of your home and go over all options to get the job done. I'm sorry I can't remember the gentleman that did my inspection but even during a family emergency he reached out to me to answer my questions In saying that Mike was the on site supervisor and was constantly updating me on my project. I felt so comfortable with him and his crew I left the keys to my home and they always left my house cleaner than I left it. They also provide many financial options to get the job done. Update: I need to say that we received a call back from customer service (Arin), she was super kind and helpful, we schedule again an appointment. The guys came and did our chimney they were super cool, they arrived on time they explained/showed my hubby what they did. We contacted Blanket Insulation through DTE for an energy analysis after high bills during our first winter in our new home. Guy listened to our problems, questions and concerns and answered all of them, and thoroughly inspected our house for energy inefficiencies. He pointed out where Blanket's services could help, but also told us easy DIY fixes. When he finished the inspection, he sat down with us to go over the services he recommended we needed and how it could save us money on our bills in the long run. He told us of high priorities, in case we were not able to spend a lot up front. He suggested cheaper options from Blanket in cases where we didn't care so much about aesthetics (leaving the attic an unfinished space, for example). Guy also told us about the DTE rebates available for the work we were having dinner, and said Blanket would submit all the necessary forms for us. We were very pleased with all the info he had to share and decided to hire Blanket to insulate our home. We had three major improvements done: add insulation to the attic, the walls, and the basement. A crew of four men arrived right on time and introduced themselves to us. They got to work quickly and kept up their pace the entire day. I don't even think they took a lunch break! (At least, not all at once!) They were respectful of our home, inside and out, taking care around flowers and politely asking if they could use the restroom. They returned a second day to continue their work, and I think they started a little longer than they planned, trying to finish up. As they left, one of the men, Kyle, told us they weren't quite finished, and worked out a day with us to return to finish the things that needed done. On that day, we got a call that the job they were working on was taking longer than expected, so they wouldn't be able to come out. Kyle offered to come on the next Saturday (though I'm quite sure they are closed!). He called Saturday morning to say he was running late, but as soon as he arrived he got to work. We are very pleased with the services provided by Blanket Insulation and the professionalism their employees showed. We would highly recommended them to anyone looking to have insulation work done on their home. Good day to all of my neighbors. I wanted to let everyone know about Blanket Insulation that was listed on the Farmington Hills website http://www.sustainablefh.com/Home.aspx . I called them to get a free home energy analysis and to give me recommendations. I did hire them and they explained that they will make my home more comfortable and will help me save money on my energy bills. Well that was not the case, they arrived late, unprofessional work, Left the area of work in a mess and did not clean up well my wife had to go and clean after them both days, they were not following safety protocols and we had one of the staff come through the ceiling (Thank god they were unharmed) it took them 2 weeks to come to fix and paint the ceiling in our bedroom (we had to call them repeatedly). The home energy advisor came out to do the test and he stated that it was like being in my house for the first time doing the audit. So they sent another work crew for a second time and the work is still not complete. When they did the second test still there are problems and their response to me was we had to pay their staff overtime to take care of this and that they will not come out and fix the remaining work that still need to be done, or offer any compensation for the time,Inconvenience lost by my family. read more

PLEASE READ BEFORE CONSIDERING BLANKET INSULATION I scheduled an appointment with Greg Mellas in 2016 and his salesman skills and knowledge impressed me enough to consider Blanket Insulation for 2017. 5/20/17 - I met with Greg Mellas to go over the quote from 2016 and to finalize the paperwork and dates for the attic insulation work. We decided to do the 1 year financing instead of paying with cash due to 0% financing. (If you decide to use Blanket Insulation, DO NOT finance) As we were talking, Greg Mellas shared a story of a previous job where one of their workers fell through the ceiling onto the dining table right before the family was supposed to have a big party. Hindsight is 20/20, and I shouldn't have chosen Blanket Insulation. 7/13/17 and 7/14/17 - The crew came out and completed the attic work. After the work was completed, we noticed they damaged the ceilings in 5 different rooms. I called Greg Mellas the following morning and he stated he know nothing of the damage. After writing to Blanket Insulation, Arin Glazer responded stating all damage would be covered by Blanket Insulation. 7/20/17 - Greg Mellas came out to go over the initial job, and I wanted to discuss a second job/project to consider. After receiving a quote, I decided to give them another opportunity to do additional spray foam insulation in the attic above the garage. 8/23/17 - The crew came out and completed the garage attic work. After the work was completed, we noticed they damaged the outside fascia boards. Again, I called Greg Mellas and he again stated he knew nothing of the damage. I asked Greg if damage to people's homes is common because they're 2 for 2. Greg insisted that this was not common and this was just bad luck. 8/31/17 - Greg Mellas came out to go over the second job and talk about how the damages will be fixed and compensated. I again wrote to Greg Mellas and Arin Glazer to get a revised work contract stating Blanket Insulation would pay for all damages. 2/28/18 - 3/2/18 - My painters came out and fixed all the damages. 3/1/18 - Called Blanket Insulation to inform the interior damages were repaired. I spoke with Arin Glazer and emailed over the invoice. Arin Glazer informed me that she would talk to the owner, Reginald Bailey and provide a check of $1280 by 3/6/18. After a month of going back and forth with Arin Glazer and Reginald Bailey here's the outcome: - The total damages for the interior and exterior of my home totaled $1760. - Reginald Bailey explicitly stated to me he would not complete repairs that were promised on one of the invoices. - I filed a complaint with BBB, Dr. Energy Saver (primary dealer), and EnerbankUSA (creditor) - 4/12/18 I received a check for the interior and exterior damages totaling $1760. - After depositing the check, I received an email from Reginald Bailey on 4/18/18 indicating that the check might bounce, and they would reissue a new check. The check did bounce. - 4/23/18 I received a cashiers check totaling $1797 (includes NSF fees due to the bounced check). Based on my experience, I would strongly advise to not choose Blanket Insulation due to: - Repeated damages to my home. - Not fulfilling written promises on their work orders. - Poor communication. o There appeared to be no communication between the workers and advisors, especially when damage was done. o When trying to reach out to Greg Mellas to assist in receiving a check for the damages, he did not return any of my voice messages. o I had to always reach out to Blanket Insulation, rather than Blanket Insulation reaching out to me. - Tardiness of payments. - Poor money management. - Overall poor customer service. - Overall a poor and stressful experience. read more

I wanted so badly for this company to prove my second impression wrong. I say second because my first impression was with Greg, the sales rep who came to do the home energy audit. He was thorough, spent tons of time going through the whole house and explaining everything. After we agreed to Blanket for our insulation needs, things went downhill. The first time the crew came out, they instantly cracked our siding. Our house is old, we understood, but I was a little weary that they didn't realize that on a 22 degree day, this was a risk. The next time they were to come out, we took the day off work. They called at 10am to say sorry, the truck broke down. They didn't come. They rescheduled again, for March when it'd be warmer. On this visit, they blew insulation through three of my three cold air returns. They also busted out an outlet from the outside wall. They said it was a flaw in my home's old framing. However, a friend who does construction came out to check things out and said he clearly saw the holes that were going right from the outside into the air returns. They said they'd send the crew back ASAP to fix everything and finish up. However, the next scheduled visit was legitimately set for over a month later. At that time, everything went as planned but rain delayed them from finishing up. On the last visit, they finally finished the project. However, there are missing plugs in a four seasons room and they are on back order. So, I currently have styrofoam plugs in a room me and multiple guests sit in often. I would be fine with this if I trusted they'd be back soon to resolve the issue. However, this project officially began in February and as far as I am concerned, is still not complete mid-May. I get sent to different people in the office when I have concerns and get short, rude responses most of the time. I honestly don't trust the work that was done. This is my third larger home project in this house and the other two unrelated companies were amazing. I have never wasted time writing a review to this extent but I am still so uncomfortable with the work done here. I don't even know that I trust what was supposed to be done was actually done. They get two stars because the actual crew was great and admitted to their errors. When they finally did get sent back out, they worked hard and did a good job, from what I could tell. Communication was poor and I always felt that I was put way way way on the back burner. read more

Nicholas Reisener led a crew from Blanket Insulation to do a number of energy-saving upgrades from my attic down to my basement under-the-garage crawl space. They worked two very full, very busy days. I was impressed with their courtesy, their teamwork in backing each other up and their industry over what turned out to be two single-digit bitter cold days. They worked hard, but left my home in mint condition. You couldn't tell it was a construction site for two days. At the end of the day this job was great value and worth every dime. I recently hired Blanket to spray foam my house. They did my attics, a part of my roof, and my crawlspace. Because of the recent weather I haven't had to turn on my heat or air, so I don't know how well the home will maintain the temperature once I do need to turn on the heat, but according to the man who did the blower test, the air leakage was reduced by 30% (I think that's what he said), which is really good. There was one issue with foam coming out of one of my vents, but they sent someone by to fix it within a couple of days. I'm supposed to get a rebate in about 4 weeks. Hopefully that paperwork will be submitted quickly so that I will receive it because this was an expensive job and I could surely use the rebate for other things. The only real complaint I have is the smell of cigarette smoke the workers brought in and left behind. I detest it. I don't think anyone smoked in my house (I was gone for the last 2 days of the job so I can't say for sure), but I do know they were smoking close to my house and then coming in. If you are not a smoker, you SMELL cigarette smoke from a mile away; and it sticks to everything. So for a few days after they left, I was still smelling cigarette smoke in my house. It just makes me sick. Overall, I think Blanket did a good job and I would recommend them. read more
