If I showed up in person, sometimes someone buzzed me in to the office, sometimes no one in the office and I had to try another time. Good thing my kids already older and they can communicate things with me. But I will not consider this school for regular attendance based on gap of communication among staff, educators and parents. It feels that parents concerns are not appreciated. The issue that I had was class changes, updating pick up person form. Had to do it multiple times and still not updated. So if you enroll your kids in summer school, pick your classes wisely. My daughter accidentally picked 3 science classes back to back and the school did not make any attempt to help us to change it until the next two days. One of this science class, my daughter was the only student there. For third week of summer school, my daughter chose spanish class as her last class of the day, and she was enrolled to something else. ---update 7/22/26 in response to South Hills Business Manager--- Thank you for your response. I appreciate your feedback. However, I would like to understand how South Hills Academy ensures that parents are able to effectively communicate their concerns with the Summer School division when emails go unanswered, phone calls are not returned, and, upon visiting the front office in person, I was instructed to "just email the director." I followed the process your staff directed me to follow by emailing the director, yet I did not receive any response or acknowledgment from South Hills Academy. As a parent, this leaves me without a clear avenue to address legitimate concerns. The previous Pre-K principal, Mrs. Ana, along with Mrs. Lisa and Ms. Brittany, were supportive and caring. Once Mrs. Macias took over in September, the entire environment changed--and not for the better. From that point on, parent concerns were dismissed, minimized, or completely ignored. It became very clear that administration would back staff no matter what, instead of addressing legitimate issues being raised. My son was in the Rainbow Room (2-3-year-olds), where a teacher, Karina Vasquez, was brought in. Almost immediately, I saw a negative shift in my son's behavior. He would come home saying, "She yells at me." No parent should ever hear that about someone entrusted with their toddler. In my experience, there was a serious lack of patience and an inability to appropriately handle very young children. What is even more alarming is that after my son left SHA and began attending Walnut Montessori, there was communication about him between Karina Vasquez. She used to work at Walnut and was talking to staff at Walnut about my son and saying very negative things. That is deeply concerning and raises major questions about professionalism and confidentiality. When this was brought up, the responses from administration were inconsistent and dismissive. Instead of accountability, there were excuses. The way discipline was handled was completely unacceptable. There was an attempt to suspend my 3-year-old child for over a week. A preschooler. Rather than working toward solutions or support, it felt like certain staff members were pushing to remove him altogether. There are also serious concerns about transparency. I was informed that classroom cameras either do not work or are not being used. For a school responsible for very young children, that is unacceptable. The overall culture felt toxic--favoritism, gossip, and protecting staff seemed to take priority over the well-being of the children. As a parent, I felt unheard, unsupported, and ultimately forced to remove my child for his own well-being. Do not be misled by appearances. Based on my experience, this is not a safe, supportive, or trustworthy environment for young children. Mrs. Macias is a horrible principal and Karina Vasquez yells at the kids and hates children. Parents if you feel this way as well and have children attending the pre-k side, report everything to the state licensing department.

I say this all the time, this school quite literally saved my son Long story short, I originally sent my son to a preschool that was highly recommended by many of my students' parents over the years. However, with staff changes during Covid, my experience there was less than pleasant and it took a hard toll on my son's confidence. He was always afraid to express himself, make eye contact with the teacher, and wasn't himself.. I came to WUMP desperately trying to find another school to switch him out to (which was also highly recommended by some friends). Hearing about my son's current situation Miss Yonni (the director) did everything in her power to get me over to WUMP as soon as possible. My son was greeted here with SO much love and reassurance-- from the first day to graduation he had the most loving teachers ever. He regained his confidence again, felt comfortable to open up, and just blossomed here. I owe so much of who he is today to this wonderful preschool and I'm forever indebted to them My second child is currently finishing her final year here and I'm beyond sad she will be leaving! Between both my kids, they have had the best experience in almost all of the teachers' classes here. They love my children like their own and are so good at what they do! I'm an educator myself for many years, so I can confidently say that the teachers at WUMP are truly top of the line. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! My son went into public school kinder and was well above the level of proficiency expected for a kindergartner! The campus feels refreshed, communication with families has improved, and there seems to be a strong focus on creating a warm, organized, and engaging environment for the children. What we appreciate most is that the new ownership has respected the existing families and teachers while also bringing in new ideas and improvements. It feels like they genuinely care about building a strong school community rather than changing everything overnight. Our child enjoys coming to school, feels comfortable with the teachers, and comes home happy. We are also excited about the school's Montessori-inspired approach and the additional Mandarin and English learning opportunities. You can tell she genuinely loves what she does and truly cares about each child in her class. She takes the time to connect with them individually, listens to them, and creates an environment where they feel safe, seen, and excited to learn. As a parent, it means so much to know your child is in the hands of someone so kind and dedicated. Esther has that rare combination of structure and warmth that makes children thrive. Unfortunately, our overall impression of the school and several other staff members was disappointing. One experience that really stood out involved a teacher named Esther, who teaches the 4-5-year-old class. While she may appear friendly at first, our experience with her was very different. One morning, my wife was holding the security gate open for an elderly grandfather who was walking into the preschool. Instead of appreciating the situation, Esther immediately yelled at my wife to close the gate and began lecturing her. Even after my wife explained that she was simply helping an elderly person enter safely, Esther continued to scold her and insisted that the grandfather could open the gate himself. We found her response unnecessarily harsh and lacking basic compassion and professionalism. Another concern was the school's annual Jogathon fundraiser. Families are encouraged to donate money, and children who participate receive a special T-shirt. Staff members then visit the classrooms to celebrate with those children by handing out small toys and snacks. We chose not to participate because we already pay significant tuition and did not feel obligated to make an additional donation. Later, the school sent parents a video of the celebration. Watching it was heartbreaking. My daughter was one of the children without the fundraiser shirt, and she was left standing in the back while the other children celebrated together. She was essentially separated from the group because we didn't donate. Regardless of the purpose of the fundraiser, I don't believe young children should ever be singled out or excluded based on whether their parents contribute financially. The children have no control over those decisions, and schools should make every effort to ensure all students feel included. I'm glad we ultimately decided to move our daughter to another school. While we appreciated her classroom teacher, our overall experience left us disappointed, and I would not recommend this preschool based on what our family experienced.

My daughter's social skills and vocabulary has excelled tremendously and my son is following the same path.
