I had my first hair experience at Blaine's, I worked with Gregg. They were AMAZING! I saw reviews on yelp and thought i'd give them a try...I am glad I did. They knew what I wanted more than I did (think low maintenance, natural looking but vibrant hair). Gregg was awesome, so patient, given that I have a LOT of hair! Anyone who knows me, knows that I am fanatically protective of my crowning glory and picky of who gets to work on it. Given that I haven't yet found a stylist in Cleveland, but with my hair started looking like a split hair factory, I decided to bite the bullet while vacationing in Dallas and get my hair done. After hours of researching...I came across Blaine's... Winner of the best Hair Salon by city voter. Scouting the website and after going through the yelp reviews I picked Shelby to be my stylist. It was easy to schedule an appointment as I could do a weekday (they are closed Sundays and Mondays). The decor at Blaine's is gorgeous, its warm, welcoming with clean lines and fabulous white and orange theme. Shelby was absolutely wonderful! She is friendly...without being overtly chatty being a perfect fit for someone like me who hates talking all the time while at my appointments. I loved the fact that she took probably 30-45 minutes during the initial part of my appointment to gauge what I was hoping to get done for my hair. From bringing over multiple color swatches, to looking over pictures for what I had in mind and discussing exactly what she was planning on doing, she ensured that I was comfortable with all the choices while giving her own expert input for what would work and what wouldn't. I got the single color process with blonde and chocolate brown highlights and a hair cut. I was truly impressed by the time Shelby took to get my highlights done. I have a lot of hair and often times other stylist had let me know about how much time it takes them to get it done....but Shelby...nope she did not complain once..she was a perfectionist, who just kept going until everything was done right. Nobody has used as many foils on my hair as Shelby did. Another stylist jokingly commented once all the foil was out, that it was the size of a loaf of bread! Not once during my appointment did I feel rushed. In the end it took about 5 hours for me to get completely done and I have to say that I was absolutely happy with the result! Shelby gave me exactly what I was hoping for! Why not 5 stars? While I loved my hair color and cut...my hair does feel dry and rough which I don't really like. Overall: Blaine's and Shelby are great! Really great salon! The valet your car complimentary which is just swell since it's located in the heart of the dallas downtown/uptown area. The inside of the space is large and inviting. It's well appointed and feels young and fresh! It's definitely a great vibe inside. The staff is really nice. The owner is involved in the business, evident in the fact that they spend their time in their business and interact with their staff and customers. It's nice to see an owner taking an active role in their place and making sure everything is going smoothly. I really liked the gal who did my hair last (it was my first visit for a color and cut). She was so friendly and had a lot of experience which made me feel comfortable putting my hair in her hands. The salon is big and comfortable, the staff is very friendly and there is a complimentary valet so you don't have to deal with parking in that area of town. I had a haircut with Alexa who is amazing! Alexa chatted with me before we started, she listened to what I was looking for, was very knowledgeable, and had simple recommendations to keep my hair healthy. I've had my hair cut and colored by Alexa twice now, with two completely different colors, and she did an amazing job both times. She took me from brown hair with caramel highlights to an icy cool blonde - no easy feat! She's enjoyable to talk to and super flexible. My first appointment at Blaine's was with the Groupon and when the stylist I was booked with had to cancel at the last minute Alexa stepped in so I wouldn't have to reschedule. I have been to Blaine's Color twice for a cut and highlight from the owner. I have no issue spending a lot of money on my hair. Based on my experience there and their product (my hair) I will NOT be returning...Here was my experience both visits: 1st Visit: The staff was nice, very pretty, very new salon. I had two processes done...While the cut and color turned out alright the first time, the blow out was awful and I left with frizzy - damp hair. I know it could have been done with more care, but I let it roll off my back because I figured they were busy that day... I purchased shampoo and conditioner that I have enjoyed using. It was over $250 by the time I left. 2nd Visit: The staff was again, very nice and accommodating on short notice. However they were preoccupied and not at all concerned with making sure my experience was a good one. I again saw the owner, Blaine who gave me a sloppy dry-cut 'trim' up, not the full haircut I paid for. A single process partial highlight when I needed a full. And was sent home with wet hair with a semi-perminant color on. While I don't mind leaving with wet hair. I paid for a cut, color and blow out for $185 + a nice tip (against my better judgement). If you're busy or just doing a half ass job - I get it. We all have bad days. But charge me accordingly. Do not show on the website what you get for each service charged and then fall short of your promise. They clearly don't have an interest in retaining clients. And it was clear the bottom line was more important than my experience and if I liked my hair or not. I can go spend $250+ elsewhere and actually get what I pay for... read more

When I moved to Dallas a year ago, I was nervous to find a place I could trust with my hair. I found Blaine's because of their write up in D magazine and could not have been more lucky than to have scheduled with Alexa. She and everyone at the salon were so friendly and welcoming from the second I walked in. They brought me a mimosa the second I sat down and made sure I was taken care of for the many hours I was there getting my highlights. I've gone to Alexa now for about a year and no one has ever done a better job with my hair. Naturally brunette, most hair colorists have been nervous or doubtful that they would be able to get me to be as light and cool of a blonde as I want to be. Alexa was never intimidated and got it the first time. She is an amazing listener and will work with you until you get exactly what you want. She is the only colorist I've gone to that has figured out how to make me look like a light and bright natural blonde. Every time I have gone back she has worked to get it even better. She is a true perfectionist and takes her time (seriously, however long she needs) to make absolutely sure she's gotten it right. She also cares about your hair and makes sure that she does everything to prevent damage (which is especially important as a highlighted blonde). Beyond the amazing service and care I've received at Blaine's, it is always pleasure to be there for the time I'm getting my hair done. Often times I find myself reviewing places because of the terrible service. Today on the other hand, I am on the other side. I can not get enough of not only Blaine's Salon but of Tara Hlavac! She is a dream!! Really the sweetest person you will ever meet and the best at what she does,truly a master hair stylist! She cuts both me and my husbands hair and we refuse to see anyone else after our first visit with her. She cuts my husbands hair with scissors (very short hair) and no clippers. No one believes him that she can do with scissors what most do with clippers. Seriously amazing! I have already booked my Brazilian blow out with her. I purchased a Gilt voucher and made an appointment ten days in advance for a cut and color. I received two follow up emails confirming my appointment, and then with 24 hours notice, I get a call stating that my appointment has been canceled and they can only fit me in either in the middle of the day or the week after. And so they rescheduled my appointment for a different time, different date. So I show up for the appointment and despite having booked a color and cut AND receiving a confirmatory email stating the same AND displaying a Gilt voucher that clearly showed what I was in for, they penciled me in for a cut only. Well, we sorted all that out and then I met Alexa - a hair genius if there ever was one. I've had the perfect color and the perfect cut in my head since forever and ever, and she has been the only hairdresser to deliver. Props to her. She's amazing. While I was getting my hair washed before the cut, I did receive a very "kind" offer from Blaine to get a "free" argan oil treatment if I were ready to walk out with sopping wet hair right after. I politely declined and stated I would rather get the cut and blowout I paid for. After the fantastic cut by Alexa, Blaine gave me the sloppiest blow out I have EVER received after a haircut, but I was too ecstatic with the color and cut to even care. Brittney at the front desk was super sweet and apologetic about the scheduling fiasco, but dealing with Blaine just left a bad taste in my mouth afterward. I weighed the pros and cons in my head after I left - having Alexa do my hair again versus dealing with Blaine's terrible customer service. And then decided, I'll pass. Very poor and unprofessional service. Will never go back. I had an appointment schedule on Saturday and they called me to tell me my appointment was cancel. I had wedding portraits schedule that afternoon and had to cancel. I rescheduled again that week but my stylist no longer worked there..I wonder why? So I rescheduled with another stylist named Taylor for Saturday. The day of he was 1 hour late. I had pictures of what I wanted and he couldn't get the job done. He only used one product which was there useless hairspray. I had my makeup done and ask for something soft and natural. I looked like a drag queen when I was done. After long research for a great salon, Blaine's came up. Blaine's Salon stood out because it had great reviews and the Salon itself looked amazing. My friend and I decided to get our hair done and get pampered for the day. We figured we would pay good money to get great service and great hair. We figured "why not?". We went online to Yelp's reviews and read multiple reviews about Greg and Alexa. Everyone spoke highly of them two. We decided to book with no one else but them two. Alexa was my hair stylist and Greg took care of my friend. Unfortunately, I had an awful experience. For starters, Alexa didn't offer me a drink. Not even water. Everyone around me had either tea, water, coffee or even beer. I was appalled because Alexa was being very subtle and standoffish. No drink and being rude, that was just awful. I don't' know if she was having a bad day or she was just being plane rude. We knew Blaine's Salon was expensive, but we figured it was okay since we were going to get great service and great quality. My friend and I thought it was well worth it. Turns out, I spend $256.00 and was very unhappy. No drink and awful service. Not only was I treated badly, but I got the complete opposite hair color I asked for. My friend paid $365.00 and had an AMAZING experience with Greg. He was very cheerful and pleasant. Unfortunately, her vision wasn't the same as Gregs', and she too did not get the hair color she was seeking. He was pleasant definitely pampered, the complete opposite of Alexa. After our hair was blown out and finalized, we realized the hair color wasn't what we hoped for. Initially, we were hesitant to say anything because we were trying to be optimistic and figured it was just the lighting and the way the hair was styled. It wasn't unit we went home and played with our hair, that we started crying because we hated our hair. Bad hair and bad service with Alexa!!! Greg was extremely nice and pleasant, but unfortunately the hair color wasn't what we hoped for. We contemplated running to a local drug store and dying our hair ourselves, to cover the dye. We were embarrassed to call the salon and complain, but we figured we weren't going to spend $256.00 and $365.00 and hate our hair. We went back to Blaine's and spoke to the young lady at the counter who was extremely nice and was able help us. We spoke to Blaine regarding our hair and our vision. After discussing our hair situation, he immediately suggested they fix our hair and leave happy. Blaine was extremely nice. You could tell he really cared about his clients and the salon's reputation. We were able to book an appointment and get our hair redone. My friend was rebooked with Greg and I was rebooked with Alexa, once again . They were able to cover up the hair dye, but we were disappointed with the overall experience. I scheduled an appointment online and chose the New Client Service option as instructed by Blaine's website. I received a text confirmation of my appointment and believed I was good to go. Two hours and fifteen minutes prior to my appointment time I received a call asking if I could arrive thirty minutes earlier (4:00 instead of 4:30) to which I said I would try. I called the salon back at 3:54 and informed the receptionist I would not make it by 4:00 but would still be early. I arrived at 4:12. Much to my surprise, I had traveled 27 miles one way for not. I entered the salon I noticed the nice bright colors and calm atmosphere. Blaine introduced himself and was quite friendly as we spoke. He asked that I sit in a salon chair to talk and I told Blaine what I wanted (all over blonde) and he said he had just the perfect person, but it couldn't be done today. Hmmm. While I believe there is likely a colorist at the salon that could work magic with my hair (currently brown with heavy blonde highlights), to be told "not today" was quite aggravating. I went ahead and booked an appointment for Thursday night and planned to return until I spent an hour getting home due to an accident on the highway. It was then that I really had time to evaluate what had transpired and give thought to the horrible customer experience created for me. While I am well aware the service I required would take time, I am also aware that 2 hours had been set aside for my appointment, or at least that is what their website said. At no time was there any indication that my "appointment" was actually a consultation. I certainly wouldn't have wasted a Saturday afternoon driving 54 miles round trip had I known this. Further, if it were a consultation why on earth did they call and ask that I arrive 30 minutes earlier??? To say I am disappointed would be a horrible understatement. I chose this salon because of their rave reviews and media attention. I read the yelp reviews prior to booking and although I saw some negative reviews, the salons responses made me feel confident in my choice as they stood behind their work, which for me translated to good customer service. Sadly, what happened to me today proved my theory wrong. I'm sure this is a wonderful salon, just not for me. read more

They left me hanging right before a Christmas party. I had an appointment the day before which they canceled because the stylist was sick--ok, not anyone's fault, BUT the next appointment they had was the next day, only a few hours before my Christmas party. I rushed to get there on time and made it. The front desk told the stylist was doing the last client and it would be "5 minutes." 45 minutes later I was still sitting there and I couldn't wait any longer so I walked right out the door. If they don't value my time, I can do better at 4 different places in the area.
