Review Date: June 6th, 2016…read more Aside from beer, they have deliciousness on tap. I think I discovered this place while looking at online lists of unique or delicious places to try. I figured Canton isn't a terribly long drive for me if I made it a day to travel and see other things around Billy's Tap. Guess what. That's exactly what my girlfriend and I did. We made plans to check out the Tap and other places in the area. We rolled up on a quiet afternoon. Canton is a small town so I assume most days are quiet around there. We stopped before entering to take some fun photos with the giant log painted on the wall. Well, I posed for some photos. My shy girlfriend isn't one to draw attention to herself... being shy and all. We headed in and were greeted by an excellent pub. The place had this classiness to it that I didn't expect from a small town. I could see how this place was on a few list of 'must try' places. None of that matters if the food is awful though, so we grabbed a seat and go to ordering. BBQ bacon burgers are our usual menu item to order and we were able to order something along those lines at Billy's Tap. Since we still had some driving and exploring to do, we declined to get too much food and be miserable. Just the bacon burgers and we split some french fries. Our waitress was small-town friendly and made some small talk while we sat there, taking in the scenery. I can't express how amazed I was at how nice this place was. I was also amazed at the sight of our food when it came out. Despite getting an order of french fries to split between us, there was a huge pile of them that could've been a meal of it's own. As for the slab of meat between the patties, that just looked fantastic. I was amazed at the interior. I was amazed at how the food looked. Was I amazed at how it tasted. Heck yes, I was. Each bite of the burger was succulent and full of juices and flavor. Each bite was heaven for this carnivorous man. The bacon had that nice crisp to it that I loved while remaining greasy at the same time. It's how I cook my bacon at home. The meat patty was the same. Juicy but not to the point where it would leave juices running down your chin. This thing was easily a Top 10 if not Top 5 burger for me. The only thing it was missing was the BBQ sauce but that's not going to count against it. Just a personal preference. Again, I could see why this place made it on some lists. This place seems somewhat unassuming on the outside but the second you walk in, you know you are in for a treat. Sadly it's just too far away for me to try again but I am glad to have tried it the one time. I wonder what the delivery cost would be to have one brought to me....

Off street parking is plentiful with a large paved lot. The menu is pretty expansive with daily specials. My wife and I both chose the fried chicken (all white) for $8.99 with two sides. We both had the baked potato. She had the kidney bean salad while I had the coleslaw. With drinks the bill was $24. Interestingly, the chicken meal can be had two different ways, two breasts with two wings or three breasts. (Even though the breast pieces were not huge, that's still a lot of chicken for the money.) I noticed that the table beside us had ordered an appetizer basket of onion rings. The rings were thinly sliced, lightly coated, fried to a golden brown. Obviously hand made, they looked delicious and smelled great. Priced at $5 it seemed to be an excellent value. The chicken arrived hot and crispy. (The waitress just went ahead and brought a take-home box at the same time. Smart lady, There was no way we were finishing all that at one setting.) It was chicken was perfectly cooked and tasty. The sides were well prepared too. On this particular Wednesday evening there was a live band playing a nice mix of country music (some old some not quite so old). They were set-up in one corner and were doing a pretty fair job. Their volume level was adequate but low enough to allow for conversation. Not being from here I can't say if this was a regular occasion or not. All I know is it made for a pleasant surprise. All in all I was pleased with my experience at the American Grille and should I be back in the area I would not hesitate to dine here again.
