Smoked Bacon & Parmesan Cheese Mac & Cheese
Maddy S.

I came here on the VIP day before the Food District opened. I don't like BBQ sauce, and have never craved BBQ food... however, I tried a sample of their ribs and have been converted. Their bbq sauces don't taste like they're heavily downed by ketchup (which is probably why I hate market bbq sauces). They're fresh and have a zing to them, but not overpowering the meat. I decided to come back their first week open and ordered their Doubled Smoked Pork Rib Tips and Smoked Bacon & Parmesan Cheese Mac & Cheese. They were both amazing. The service was great, staff were friendly and very informative. I came back AGAIN yesterday for lunch and ordered the fried chicken (swapped out my side salad/fries for the charred corn). My friend ordered the sweet whisky pork ribs with mustard greens. We split everything and honestly loved it all! I'd 100% reorder everything I got so far.

Poutine

Small restaurant but the people do really know how to make use of their space! We were walking around looking at options and when we stopped by here, their poutine got my attention and so we decided to go in. There was a wait for it as it was busy but it was fine. The bbq brisket poutine had exactly what you would imagine a bbq brisket poutine would have but with even more stuff! The meat was very rich in flavor, I could really taste the bbq notes. Also, the green onion and cheese helped the bbq taste not too overwhelming. It was a great dish to share among others or just have by yourself. The only thing I wouldn't mind was a larger portion for the price.

Brisket with fries

Had the brisket. It was ok. Brisket could be juicier with more sauce. Fries were decidedly too salty

After being open for at least 6 months, my husband and I finally had the chance to try Blackjacks BBQ with a friend visiting from Virginia. The setting of the eatery is like sitting in a dinner with bar decorations. The little seats approximately 40 people. The flavour to the food was nice however seemed to miss just a little more flavour. The protions are not huge but if you love to eat one dish may not be quite enough. My husband and I shared three dishes. Which was just okay for the two of us.

Hello Yelpers! After months of passing by I finally got to try it. I was greeted by a lovey man. The eatery is quite small. I ordered pound of wings, half rack ribs with fries and coleslaw. As for my wings, I got the dry rub which wasn't too bad joy was it any good. I think it was legit salt and pepper? The chicken were also in the dry side maybe fried it a bit too much. As for the ribs, it was pretty good. I regret not doing the AYCE ribs and fries that night. It fell off the bone nicely and the sauce was pretty good. As for the fries... basic. The slaw... basic. The soft drinks are bottomless.as for our waiter. Super nice. Great service. I'd recommend talking less with customers....

A restaurant that you HAVE to try if you're visiting Square One. This restaurant provides a nice addition to the Food District with unique style and delicious items they serve Going to coming back and trying more of their menu Price: Prices are not too bad. Prices range in the $13-$15 range and they are a decent sized portion for what you pay for. I'd rather pay for a little bit more here than go to the mall food court. Service: I went on a Thursday at 3PM, so I was the only customer at the restaurant at the time which worked out the best for me since I got amazing service. They have a good amount of seating so service should be fairly fast. Food came out fast and hot. Food: The food was amazing. The Mac and Cheese looks as delicious as the photos show it to be! The BBQ Brisket Poutine was equally as delicious. The Mac and Cheese with the bacon and chives provided a smoky gooey bite with a fresh aftertaste. The BBQ Brisket Poutine was filled with flavour! The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth and the fries were cooked to perfection. Atmosphere: The decor was the cherry on top. No longer was I thinking I was "eating at the mall" but rather "eating at restaurant that's a part of the mall." I love the BBQ decor that this restaurant implements from the lighting, plating of food and the mason jar glassware.

Located inside Food District in SQ1 you really don't feel like you're inside a mall. The menu is elaborate yet simple and the seating area is cozy yet spacious. Ordered the home-made beef jerky - personally didn't like it as it lacked flavour. The crispy jalapeño shrimp appetizer was ok but came after we finished our main meal. What drew me to this place was the Beef Ribs - the sauce was good but there was barely any meat on the bones.

Smokey BBQ wings

A great addition to the Square one food district! It's a cozy space, with neat decor to set the vibe. I also really enjoy the bar space, this would be a cute place to take a date for a drink or two before making rounds around the mall. I ordered the smoky BBQ wings, and while it had a good taste, the wings were somewhat small with not alot of meat on them. My friend ordered the dinosaur ribs and it also tasted good, but also had the same issue of not a lot of meat on the bone. The service was great, especially considered how busy it was during the grand opening week. It's a good restaurant service-wise, and it's visually appealing, but in terms of BBQ it's just okay.

I ordered take out from this restaurant on Sunday right when it opens at 11 am as Ritual is doing a promotion for the $1 Doubled Smoked Pork Rib Tips. I feel that the rib tips were dry and I don't really smell or taste the smokiness of the rib tips.

BJ's Burger

First impression of my order: "Wow, I did not know I ordered a mini slider with wooden fries." The burger was small and the patty was nearly burnt. The wasabi mayo tasted nothing. The coleslaw was watery, the burger lacked seasoning, and I think my throat has cuts from when I was trying to swallow their unapologetically old fries. On the plus side, service was great and we were attended to...but if I'm gonna have a $16 burger, I'm not gonna go to the Food District for it.

their brisket poutine was really good!! My friend and I really liked the atmosphere of the place too! Our server was also very nice and accommodating :)

From the outside it didn't look as impressive as other spots I've tried, but once inside, everything was spot on. The space was well organized, the staff changed the grills frequently, and the meats were fresh with marinades done just right. The deep-fried dishes were surprisingly top-notch too, with light crispy batter that beats what many a-la-carte places serve. Even the sushi rolls were much better than I expected from an AYCE place. Every item came out fresh and well-prepped, showing that they actually care about quality here. Honestly, everything felt legit. It's not easy to find an AYCE that keeps both quality and variety at this level. I wasn't a fan of their other location before, but this Mississauga one completely changed my mind. If I'm ever nearby again, this would easily be my first choice for Japanese BBQ.

I'm not sure how much my friend putting us on wait list before arriving helped but we waited about 30 mins before it was our turn. There were 5 of us (4 adults and one toddler) and we were in a booth for four adults. The booths are pretty small considering all the things you can order. Luckily our booth was against a wall with space to put the dishes that didn't fit on the table. Dinner service was very busy as it was difficult to flag down a server to order. Once we ordered, the meats came out very fast. I think the cuts offered at Shinta are high quality for an AYCE restaurant. Currently Shinta offers an order of free A5 wagyu with your dinner. Everyone really enjoyed the Wagyu, even my toddler! The sushi that they offer was also good. I opted to eat less sushi to fill up on the meat. For dessert, the majority of us got the mango pomelo sago. It was refreshing! Overall, I really enjoyed Shinta and will be having my birthday dinner here next month! They also offer a free 6" cake if you reserve at least three days in advance.

The staff is on it -- the moment our plates or cups were empty, they were cleared right away. I also love how well-staffed they are; everything runs so smoothly. The quality of the food was next level. We even tried the plain meat without any seasoning, and it was still packed with flavor. That says a lot! And the restaurant itself? Absolutely beautiful. If you want to cook your own foods via grill, yakiniku, don't mind the crowds, max seating of four per booth, enter the door on your left for Takumi BBQ. If you prefer ramen, no smoke or cooking, open concept, enter the door to the right and around the corner for Takumi Ramen. Both restaurants offer different menu selections. Not allowed to ask for menu items next door because my cousins tried asking in the past and kindly inquired again out of curiosity. We're happy that we choose Takumi Ramen! We're surprised to be the only party of eight dining in for two hours till COB. There's ample seating to join middle tables together. We're able to immerse ourselves in conversations. I ordered the Mini Sukiyaki Combo. I loved their Mini Sukiyaki where you allow all the ingredients to cook for a few minutes, crack egg into the pot, able to control your own temperature settings on your own butane with propane grill. Salad and gyoza were tasty. Majority of my relatives ordered various ramen and/or apps. There was only one employee working, who was attentive, brought beverage and napkin refills, checked to see how we're doing and if there's anything else we needed. Smaller menu selection. Wouldn't mind returning for the quality.

Their cuts of meat are just so good, as well as the sides. We always order multiple rounds of the pickled cucumber and get several refills on the corn and kimchi. The tofu stew that comes with the set is also super comforting and delicious. Don't skip this! Oh it's also annoying that rice is $3 BUT to be fair, they pack this and one bowl is enough for me. I like that it's not plain white rice either. I pretty much tried every beef option but can't remember them all. However on my most recent visit, we ordered: BEEF TENDERLOIN BEEF RIB FINGER MEAT BEEF BONELESS SHORT RIB BEEF SHORT PLATE My favourite was defs the boneless short rib. I loved the marbling on it and it was easy to eat. The tenderloin took FOREVER to cook, but once cooked, it was tender and meaty. Exactly as described. I wouldn't order the short plate again, as it was a little too fatty. All of this including the rice came up to $131 and split between 3 people it was $43 with tax. So not bad at all and it ends up being around the same price as any AYCE bbq spot. Thats why I don't mind coming here cuz of the quality and sides. Service is also super friendly and they come around often asking if you need anything else. I made resos for a Saturday at 12:30 but it wasn't really needed because the place was only about 1/5 full. Walking in, we were greeted with a smile. The interior of the restaurant was spacious with a private feel since they had areas sectioned off from one another. We ordered the Japchae (5/5), Boneless Yangnyum Galbi (4/5), Pork Belly (4/5). Japchae was delicious with a hint of smokey flavour to it. The noodles were chewy and complemented well with the savoury flavours of bulgogi. The vegetables added a nice crunch to every bite. The mushrooms added a chewy and fun texture to the dish. Boneless Yangnyum Galbi was so tender. Its marinade was on the sweet side which we weren't really a fan of but we still enjoyed the dish. Pork Belly was also tender. It was thinly sliced which was quite a let down since we typically prefer pork belly sliced a bit thicker. The BBQ we ordered came with two bowls of rice and lettuce (non-refillable), ssamjang and sesame oil with black pepper and salt for dipping, and some side dishes that were refillable: kimchi, bean sprouts, cucumbers and sweet potato. The overall quality of the ingredients, especially the meats, were great. It was pretty telling how much the cooks enjoyed prepping and cooking the dishes. This place is on the pricier side which is reasonable for the quality of their food. The portions are also reasonable for their price-points. I'd come back on a special occasion and/or when I'm craving japchae. The servers we had were attentive, checking in every so often to clear our dishes and change our grills.
