Morgan from Blackhill Restoration was incredibly engaged after we learned we had a toxic mold problem in our master bathroom. We got several quotes and Blackhill was the most competitive and responsive. They were able to work with our hectic schedules and were extremely accurate with the time it would take to remove the mold from our bathroom. When the mold testers from a separate company came out to retest we got a clean bill saying all of the mold was properly removed. Things my husband and I value are staying on budget, time, and quality and they exceeded all expectations. I wish there was a way to give a -5 star rating, but that would not be low enough either. Never use these people for anything. They broke items, they locked my bathroom door and closed it when they left for the day. Forcing me to bust into my own bathroom. They took a box of car parts home with them, and only returned it when I raised hell about it. They damaged my walls, and I am not talking about cutting them open to dry out. They are always late and did not tell me the truth about they were doing next, they just did things and left me with a mess. They never showed up when they said they would they were always 2 or 3 hours late. I had these guys come in to remove water from my bathroom. They never protected my belongings, (covered in dust) They never talked with me prior to making decisions like me paying for a plumber that they selected and showed up at my house and then I had to pay for them to disconnect. If I had known they were going to bring in a plumber I would have done it myself saving me over $750. I was told by the boss that what the insurance won't cover they will, but when I brought it up to him, he said he meant services. So don't know how I misunderstood this, but this was my first major slab leak. They sent new people almost every day and a lot of things were not communicated. So when they demo'd, I thought it would be covered, but it was not. Again, if I had been told they wouldn't cover it with the insurance amount, I would have done it myself. Between the bills for the plumber (fixing the leak, disconnecting and removing water all together costing over $10,000 knowing my insurance only covered $5,000. And yet I still have to pay to have everything redone. Being retired military and elderly, I feel I was taken advantage of. read more

Our home had a burst pipe in December (12/26/22), while we were out of town. We contacted our insurance agent and they recommended Blackhill Restoration for water remediation, however it was later revealed that they'd not done any previous business with Blackhill. I cannot even BEGIN to say just how shady this company, and their owner are. The damage to our home was extensive enough that standing water (2" at most) needed to be extracted. Because we were out of town, our agent coordinated the work, but Blackhill was directed (by our agent) to get approval from us, the home owners, before executing any work (we have this in writing). The agent told us that the furniture would be put on 'stilts' to be raised from the water. At NO TIME was there any discussion about, or reason to pack out our home, as again, there was no more than 2" of standing water. This company, without first / ever having a conversation with us, took EVERY SINGLE ITEM from our home - including SILVERWARE in the kitchen, TVs that were mounted on the wall, artwork, items on shelves (high up) in locked closets, etc... Keep in mind, there was no more than 2" of water so no reason to think the entire home would have to be sheet-rocked and/or painted (which, according to the owner, is why they chose to pack everything up and remove from the home). There was TRULY no reason to take things off of walls, out of drawers, and off of shelves in closets. The owner of the company never entered our home to see what level of work would be needed by his company, nor did he, or anyone from his company EVER have conversation with us. Because he assumed insurance was going to be paying for this, he marked up his rate without ever speaking with anyone. Instead, when it was time for us to have our property returned, he sent us a $17,000 bill (after insurance refused to pay), just for the packout - that does not include the cost of the water extraction, which was another $27,000. We told him there was no way we would pay $17K for property that was not authorized to be removed from the home in the first place (nor was it necessary), and we had NO IDEA what the condition of the property was. When we told him we would not pay, he suddenly dropped the invoice to $2K (correct, from $17K to $2K) provided we agreed to work with him in his efforts to get the rest of the money from the insurance company.  As mentioned, we received an additional invoice for the water extraction, in the amount of $27K, and had the EXACT SAME situation. He started out sending the invoice to the insurance company, so clearly marked it up. When the insurance company declined payment, he then came to us and suddenly marked that invoice down from $27K to $19K! This company, and the owner specifically, should NOT be trusted - He was clearly looking for a big payday from the insurance company and when that didn't happen, tried to pass off a $17,000 invoice for work that was unnecessary, and a $27K invoice that suddenly got reduced by almost $10K.  It is my strong recommendation that you do NOT give this company consideration if you need water damage work done, as they'll find a way to 'justify' removing ALL of your personal items from  your home and then hold them hostage. read more

I regret using blackhills for my recent water incursion. The emergency plumber we had come out recommended them, and they did an acceptable job of the water mitigation. However, they have been *harassing* my wife (note: they chose to harass my WIFE and not ME, I believe this is purposeful) for payment. We have not yet received the payment from insurance, so their demands for payment at this point are unwelcome and unreasonably aggressive. I gave BlackHiill an opportunity to help one of my clients with water damage. I called Chad Hollingsworth on a Friday night to assist my customers and they promptly came out that evening. They came out to check water damage I found when I noticed a wall was wet below a window and what I thought were shingles off my roof from a recent storm. They came out promptly and advised me of my options and were courteous and professional. They left a high powered fan for four days and when they came to pick up today, would not take my money because they said it was such a small job. I was working with Hayden and Phil is the guy who got me lined up. Vic and Dustin were awesome too for the roof inspection. I can tell you, in California this would never have happened, they would have gladly charged whatever they could have there. It was a sincere pleasure to work with Blackhill Restoration! When we first found out that we had water damage I immediately went to work looking for water damage mitigation companies in our area. In one day I got quotes for 5 different companies and eventually chose Blackhill because their quote seemed to most honest and their technician Joe was so easy to talk to and work with. Additionally, their owner called me that night to answer any remaining questions that I had about Blackhill, the mitigation process, insurance, the works. After I accepted their quote, Joe came out the next day and took care of the entire job himself, removing affected portions of our floor, cabinets, floor boards, and setting up containment and the blowers and dehumidifiers. He helped us work with our insurance to get an alternate place to stay because it was so loud in our house. From that day forward Blackhill was on it. They came to my house every day to monitor the process of the water damage remediation and make adjustments with their equipment. Their managers frequently followed up with me after significant milestones to make sure that I was being taken care of and that I didn't have any concerns. Well they called this morning to let me know that I didn't have enough damage (they never once came out) and that my job was too small for them to do, sorry charlie. I use to be the store manager at Life Storage. There was a water leak in one of the buildings that caused mildew. Our area manager at the time wanted to go with a slightly more expensive restoration company and by the end of Blackhill "fixing" the situation she quickly realized she made a huge mistake. Instead of removing customers belongs from the building and taking them to their facility to be properly cleaned and cleaning the entire building while customers belongings were removed, Blake who was the manager, brought in a group of women who had only ever cleaned houses. They weren't wearing any protective gear and only had simple household cleaners to wipe down customer belongings where they put everything into new boxes. they Went and opened one storage unit at a time "wiped" things down and then placed it back into the unit. How is that going to get rid of mold and mildew? plus almost everyday we had one girl who spoke broken English running into the bathroom throwing up only to find out she was pregnant. When I brought this to Blakes attention he said he would go check on her, he can back into the office and said," Yeah she's fine." I was INFURIATED!! This company had all of these women working with no protection getting sick and it makes sense because how can people who are undocumented go to the doctor and complain that they aren't being properly taken care of. I can NOT say enough amazing things about Blackhill Restoration! This company SAVED my home after a flood that started in the upstairs bathroom. The water damage seeped through the upstairs/stairway and water was pouring from the ceiling downstairs in the kitchen and living room. Water was also coming from the light fixtures on the first floor. It was catastrophic. I called Ted Heaton (my Statefarm agent who is also INCREDIBLE) and he called Blackhill Restoration this morning to help. Julie Carter from Blackhill called me within ten minutes and was extremely flexible with scheduling a time for Blackhill to come out and look at the damage. She was kind, very responsive and scheduled them within two hours to come to my house and begin the restoration process. Hayden Stevens and Scott McDavid were right on time and were both extremely professional. They were patient with me, explained the entire process and went through the entire house with me to go over the damages. I was distraught, especially because the upstairs bathroom flooded during the winter storm earlier this year and we just finished the repairs from that damage. Hayden and Scott were both so kind to me, listened to me and were so sympathetic to my current situation. I have never felt that any company that works with insurance have been on the consumer's side but after my interactions with Hayden, Scott and Julie, I am confident that they are on my side and support the consumer's side 100%. Hayden and Scott provided me with their personal phone numbers and encouraged me to call them whenever I needed, to check in on the process of the restoration or if I needed anything outside of that. After I left, Hayden called me to check in and let me know everything was good to go. And that he would be coming over everyday to check in and make sure our home was taken care of and drying out properly. I do not know where I would be today without their support and quick actions to help ensure my home was dried and repaired properly. If you are deciding on a restoration company, you MUST go with Blackhill Restoration. I will never ever use another company ever again. Our garage efficiency was flooded on May 26th here in Austin. The contractor (Dietrich Quality Design) was incredible, but our experience with Blackhill was.... unacceptable. We chose them over other companies since they stated they could do both the demolition and the rebuild. It was only after the horrible demolition experience that they told us it would be months before they could start the rebuild. The demolition experience was delayed multiple times and calls came at the last minute if at all. We were rescheduled at least 4 times for the demolition and another three times to be there when they picked up their equipment. When they sent us the first invoice, there was no list of charges and the bill was about 3x the initial estimate. Later, when we finally got an itemized list out of them, it was clear, they had sent us the bill for the wrong house. The wrong house. When they sent us correct bill, it was still about 2x the correct value. Even the right house had the wrong floor plan, and they simply assumed all the walls in our house were drywall, when most are cinder block. We were forced to do their calculations for them since they were having some sort of computer issue. When the dimensions were finally right to calculate the invoice, we still couldn't figure out what they were charging us for. We would ask questions like. "Dear xxx, Can you tell us what this item means? Water extraction from hard surface 281.04 SF 0.00 0.66 0.00 185.49 floor - Cat 3 water Thanks, Mitch" They only ever brought fans (which they also charged us for) and no other equipment or teams of folks with rags or anything that we could construe as "water extraction." Their response was: "Water extraction can mean many things, from a hard surface it will be the drying out of the slab." So....vague, dismissive, and not helpful at all. The bill is still over the insurance estimate, but somehow meets the insurance deductible which was unfortunately paid up front. Frustrating. When calling to complain, I have never seen a company so uniformly throw one another under the bus for their collective incompetence. Also, I lent them an adjustable wrench which they then took with them after the demolition. Calls to get it back were never returned. Most folks were nice enough to interact with on a one-on-one basis. Just gross incompetence on the part of the company. Recommended by our insurance company after washing machine flooded the downstairs. Very nice people. Water extraction went really well. Big blower fans brought in, all our stuff boxed up and moved out. Place is now dried out. At this writing, we haven't had the flooring guy replace flooring (waiting for bid), so I can't report condition of furniture upon return yet. Only suggestion: the very sweet ladies who boxed up stuff put wet things in big plastic bags, perfect for mildew/mood. Also, I found sopping wet clothes put in dryer. They were there several days, as I still didn't have washing machine repaired yet. When I opened up dryer door finally, the stink of mold was awful, so I had to throw those clothes away. Maybe tell the ladies to be more mindful of wet stuff in the future. read more

DO NOT use this company for any water damage problems you may have. Had a pipe burst in the attic during the freeze and they came in with humidifier and fans to dry walls only. I repeatedly asked them what they are doing with the attic space and they said walls are dry so attic is dry. Well upon pulling down the drywall the entire attic space is covered in active mold with wood beams still damp 2 months later. I wish I went with another company as this as this was one of the worst experiences in my life owning a home. I would never recommend this company to anyone seeking water mitigation assistance. Review on the College Station office. We had a flood in our apartment and Blackhill was recommended by the plumber. They arrived quickly and had all of the appropriate equipment, but failed to remove all of the standing water before starting up the fans and dehumidifiers and leaving. After a couple of days, we checked in on the status and found temperatures of over 120 degrees F. Luckily the sprinkler heads were rated at 155 degrees F, or we might have had another flood. My house was a total loss due to a fire. Blackhill was called during the fire to prepare to board up the house. The fire department did not release the house until 12 hours later but Blackhill was right there to do their job. In addition, they performed the muck out to dry and clear the inside of the house of all the wet flooring and insulation which had fallen from the attic. Insane prices. DO NOT USE THESE GUYS. They don't give you a price up front and then they jack the price way up. They tried to charge me $2400 for a job that was priced by Servpro at $800-900. Then they acted like they were doing me a huge favor by discounting it to $1400 if I paid the same day - but only that day - or they would send it to collections. I told them I would pay $1000, which was what the person had quoted me the day they were there, even that was overpriced for the job. Even though the job would have taken 3 days if they had given me appropriate instructions (keep doors closed, check breaker regularly). They refused my money and sent me to collections. Unethical. I've worked Blackhill twice, once for a major water loss (ruptured water heater) and once for a small bathroom water loss. I have found Phil to be especially pleasant to work with. He is honest and fair. When other companies were trying to charge me literally thousands of dollars for the bathroom water loss, Phil educated me AND physically helped me himself to address the problem and charged me nothing for the assistance he gave me. He also came by within hours of receiving my phone call, where I had to wait days for others (I had 3 companies review my situation) to get back to me. I'm very thankful! read more

They left fans blowing on wet sheet rock that was being replaced and should have been torn down. They sent men to my whom they had just hired the night before on Craigslist. SO UNSAFE!! My insurance adjuster arrived and expressed numerous concerns with the shotty work. Walls, after a few days, were cut uneven, they missed many appointments and finally overcharged me by 2X. Of course, they refused to reimburse me for the difference. They did not do dry logs because according to them, I was a cash pay. Hello!! Our bathroom had water damage due to a leaking water heater. In late July, Blackhill Restoration was recommended to us by State Farm, and they came out to dry the walls and floors. The work order was authorized by State Farm in mid August, but the work was not started until early November! After multiple phone calls and emails that were not responded to, we were finally able to contact the customer service rep who got the ball rolling. Today we received an email from the previously unresponsive guy wanting to know if he could send someone over to pick up the payment! Not once did anyone contact us to see if we were satisfied, but now they want their money. Avoid this company and avoid unnecessary stress! read more

I have requested several times that we get paid on work that was asked from me and Blackhill Restoration has no interest on paying. I have contacted several homeowners and they said it was the worse experience ever dealing with this company. I called them when a water supply line to my toilet broke. It flooded that bathroom and the adjacent bedroom and out into the hall. Fortunately, I was home and was able to turn the water off quickly, so the damage was contained. Blackhill was quick to respond, which was the only nice thing I can say about them. The tech they sent wanted me to make a homeowners claim, which I had no intention of doing, since our deductible was very high, we intend to replace the flooring within the next several months, and I only wanted the water extracted. I told him I wanted a quote before he started work, which he said he could not do. Then his manager showed up to give me the hard sell about ripping up baseboards, drywall, insulation, etc etc etc. I again declined to start a claim, and told them I only wanted extraction. Then the higher up manager/director called and he gave me the hard sell as well, talking about mold, asthma, and "we are just concerned for your family..." etc. For the THIRD time I declined to file a claim, and said "I am paying cash for this, and I do not want baseboards ripped up, drywall removed, or carpet pad thrown out. As I have told the tech and the manager both, we are replacing the flooring in this area within the next year, and I will not pay for all the stuff you are wanting to do; and will not give you my insurance policy number." That was when they finally relented and did the extraction for $250 and left. If I would have made a claim, I am sure they would have billed thousands and my home would have been torn up for weeks. read more

The worst and most unprofessional company ever! DO NOT CALL THEM EVER!!!! My grandmother had a tub leak and we called state farm. They recommended Blackill to us. It has been a four month nightmare. The worst part they added more damage to the house. They broke a baseboard under our cabinet and a tile in our bathroom as well as one in my grandmas bedroom. The movers tried to charge five grand for about ten hours of work and in the process damaged our front door. Instead of fixing it they refused and pretty much told us they aren't responsible for it. They are still working on the house and come by maybe once every couple of weeks to "fix" things that should already be fixed. To make matters worse it would appear that their crew has no common sense. Instead of pulling out the tub and running dryers first they waited almost two weeks piddled with a small section of the floor and then it took another week for them to decide to work on the actual bathroom. Common sense should have clued them in to pulling the tub first and running the dryers. Then of course we were left with no furniture and no floors for three months while they dragged butt on finishing the bathroom and delivering the new floors. I spoke with another restoration company who is very confused as to why a 4-6 week project is still ongoing after 4 months. I then explained the numerous phone calls and complaints we had to file to even get anyone to come out here. Blake assured me a month ago this house would be done and guess what its still not done. He also made excuses about how the flood victims were a newer and higher priority. Guess what if y'all had finished by the end of April as y'all should have that wouldn't have been a problem. It has been pure hell. If you have a choice avoid this company like the plague!!! Oh and I almost forgot they did something to our plumbing and now when you turn on the tub water it pours out rust. I am a recent employee of Blackhill Restoration. I worked with them for over a year. After reporting a racial incident that happened during business hours by an employee at the place of business, a target was on my back. My project manager at the time, Morgan said N***ers not once but twice. I am African American, the only one that was working at the company so It upset me. The General manager Mark was present in the same room and acted as if he didn't hear it. I brought it to Blake's attention and it was handled very poorly. Nothing happened to the employee that said the racial slurs. They had meetings with me as if I did something wrong. They made me and my coworker in the Troy area feel very uncomfortable. I would not recommend this company to anyone. They do extra work that doesn't need to be done to make people's bills higher knowing the insurance will pay it. Adding extra unneeded equipment. Use another restoration company to save yourself the headache. Hands down the worst company I have ever worked for. All the owners and managers care about is your money. They will do whatever is needed to make the invoices high and make some extra cash. They cannot be trusted. Be warned. read more

Horrible company...don't trust the 5 star reviews period. This company has been historically delinquent and negligent in paying subcontractors who shell out their money for labor and equipment and then Blackhill plays the shell game when it comes to paying their subs even when they have collected the entire proceeds from the job.The only and last resort a subcontractor has to get paid is to file a Mechanics Lien on the property and leave the fight between the property owner and Blackhill to pay their subs for work performed on your property. If you are currently using them or know someone who is then I would highly recommend placing any moneys owed into an escrow account with a local Title Company. Have them disburse payment to any and all individual contractors who worked on your property. Do not give Blackhill a check. Make one deposit into the escrow account and let Title disburse and have each sub sign a Mechanics Lien Release showing they have been paid. Blackhill should receive their portion and sign the same. These people are unscrupulous and should not be in business let alone trusted. read more
