The Snug is my new favorite Hertford hangout. It's a cheerful and cozy little pub/restaurant near…read morethe Hertford train station. It's by no means a big place, but it made a big impression on me! First of all, the number one reason why I loved the Snug is the free refills on soda. Like many Americans, I love my Coke and I will drink it until I burst. I have become used to getting just one can or bottle here in the UK instead of constant refills throughout my entire visit. I felt like I was back in America! (I do realise that no refills are much healthier than drinking gallons of Coke in one sitting, but it's nice every once in awhile!) Aside from the refills, the food is awesome. My personal favourite is their eggs benedict (vegetarian of course), yet everything I've tried there is great. They also have a fun drink menu, including ice cream drinks which I'm always a sucker for. You can choose to sit inside at a table, in puffy chairs near the windows, or you can sit outside in the back garden for a bit of fresh air. Definitely a must!

It is now a modern pub with nods to local history, in a centuries old building with history of it's own. The food follows the same concept, modern food fusion of an old British favourite... pie! The menu is simply three parts (four including dessert) pie, mash and gravy. You pick your favourite pie, your favourite mash and favourite gravy to match! Simple, tasty and brilliant! Pies are freshly made and rotate, dots on the menu signify which pies are available each day. In addition, fusions like Goat Cheese and Onion tart make their way onto the menu in the "Guest Pie" categories. To pair with your meal, they offer a good selection of local (and non-local) ales and ciders. Some with quirky names like "Ghandi's Flip-Flop". Perfect place for a pint, but they also have cocktails. Plenty of outdoor seating newly fitted with lighting and heat lamps to fight the chill of autumn / winter. If you are in Hertfordshire, or touring London or Cambridge be sure to visit this little gem in the quaint town of Ware! (45 minutes by train on the Hertford East line from London Liverpool Street) A few other note-worthy pubs and renovations have popped up on the high street, making Ware a delightful pub crawl town.

The only problem is if you go at the end of the weekend, sometimes only the lesser known pies are available. But all the pies seem to be really really good so far!!
