Very impressed with the shooting center. Great time with the new Interactive Shooting Range. 27 games and scenarios with live ammo. Made practicing skills fun. The store is huge and they had a great selection. The customers service was excellent. Super friendly and willing to answer your questions. There were a number of classes going in today. From what I can see there is a little something for everyone. If they facility was a little closer, I'd make this my primary shooting range. Best range/store in central Ohio. I've been a part of many ranges and never had anything come close to BWSC. I am member for the indoor and outdoor range. Overall this place is great. The sporting clays are so fun. The gunsmith work is always great. The suppressor selection is great. I've purchased guns and suppressors at BW and have only have good experiences. Complaints- being a member they should provide more discounts on things such as transfer fees, gunsmithing, ammo. I was told that if I buy a suppressor online and had it delivered it would be a free transfer. I had a suppressor delivered to BW from an online site (not silencer shop). I go in when they tell me it's delivered only to inform me it's a $100 transfer fee because it was bought from a company outside of silencer shop. I was not happy about this and the guy said there's no way they can remove it. Look I'm a long standing member, I put a lot of money through the place. $100 transfer fee is ridiculous. Especially considering I was told it will be free. This situation alone lost the 5 star rating for them. read more

We arrived on 12/27, about 6 min after they opened, and found that the range was already booked up for at least the next 2 hours. We registered and signed wavers, then they gave us a pager. We walked around and looked at a few things here and there. The store is laid out nicely, and they have lots of supplies for the gun enthusiast. We didn't want to wait so we gave the pager back, and went to another range on Bethel. I called ahead, and they had no wait. I do want to come back here someday and try out their indoor as well as the outdoor range. I am on their email list, so I am consistently finding out about classes that they offer that look like they would be really fun. read more

My little brother turned 21 today and the rep would not allow him to purchase his first pistol because the date on his ID expired tomorrow (obviously as it was his 21st birthday today). We said ok, no problem we will just have HIS VETERAN FATHER purchase it for him with a valid military ID/drivers license and the rep rudely said that he would not allow that since it was going to be a gift for my brother which is OBVIOUSLY 21. Besides the fact that in Ohio firearms can be sold privately, this was a father helping his son ON HIS BIRTHDAY buy his very first gun. What a special moment ruined. We have 47 firearms in my large family most of which were purchased here.. we will never be back so consider this a loss of business. read more

I absolutely love this place.. by far the most friendly, knowledgeable staff of any gun store/shooting range I've ever been to. The place is beautiful and the outdoor range is awesome! I rather drive 45 minutes to this place where you're actually treated like a human instead of a number like a Vance Outdoors. Vance's still has the best prices around, but Blackwing will price match it all and help you get comfortable with your gun of choice wether you're a new gun owner or collector. I do like a Vance's and Bullet Ranch in Pataskala, one place I will never spend a dollar at again is "Gun Envy" on Indianola in Columbus. Ok in two words I can summarize my review of this place - absolutely awesome! I made my first visit last week as a part of a company outing. The facility is large, well organized and very well maintained. The store has a wide selection of merchandise that is sure to be of interest to all outdoor enthusiasts. Also a big green egg dealer! The shooting facilities were top notch. The outdoor course provides lots of opportunities to test your skill shooting sporting clays. Also nice indoor ranges. Guns are available for rental if you don't own one or if you would just like to try something different. Instructors were helpful and really added to the experience. Once again top notch. This is a top-notch facility for indoor rifle/pistol ranges and outdoor skeet/trap. So far, I've visited once but plan on returning. It is paired with a very large gun-shop. I visited with hopes of shooting both skeet and handguns during my visit. Unfortunately, this desire could not be accommodated due to a skeet tournament...word to the wise would be to call ahead to determine the feasibility of your plans with their schedule. So instead, I occupied a lane for awhile in the pistol range to shoot my .45ACP and .22LR pistols. Lane fee for me (a non-member) was $20. Staff was friendly and didn't lord over you...they watch from their window to make sure nothing is out of sorts, but since I appeared to know what I was doing I was able to avoid long lectures about range procedures and any sanctimoniousness, which I can't say is the case everywhere. Chit-chatted with a grandpa-son-grandson group at the next lane over. They were nice. This is a pretty genteel location, not a country-fried rebel flag waving place...which made it a good fit for me as a city dweller and pretty casual shooter. The retail side of the business is top notch. Most if not every sales employee I have spoken to is very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Truly a professional place to do business. The indoor shooting range is a bit of a disappointment. I was expecting something truly different but it was run of the mill but still professional and closely monitored for my safety and the safety of others. BlackWing Shooting Center is pretty amazing. The store is enormous, which was honestly a little bit intimidating for me as a new CHL carrier and gun owner. I say intimidating because there were so many items that I felt a bit lost because I was not sure what items would be beneficial and what would not. It certainly gave us plenty to browse through. My family and I decided to go check out BlackWing because as a new gun owner, I am always looking for new resources and education opportunities. Plus, I'm always on the prowl for a good holster. I am not experienced enough in guns to start modifying my firearm at this point, but from what I saw in the cases, BlackWing has an expansive selection of both firearms at every end of the cost-spectrum as well as accessories. Not to be ignored.... wait for it.... they have 9mm ammo! WHAT!?!?!?!? They had an amazing supply and selection of 9mm ammo of both defender rounds and range ammo, more importantly... at an affordable price! Mind=BLOWN! I have found that 9mm ammo has been incredibly difficult to get my hands on and because I'm so new to all of this, I try to go to the range at least once per week to practice shooting and get more familiar with my firearm. In fact, yesterday after I called the range with whom I have a membership and them being out of stock, I was able to walk into BlackWing, go right to the ammo shelves, grab what I needed, and check out quickly. Now, to the nitty-gritty: The service here was exceptional. Our first visit was during a time when they were particularly busy (on a Saturday, I know... probably not the best idea), but each time a staff member passed by us as we browsed, they asked if we were ok or needed help. I expected with as busy as they were to largely be overlooked, but I was pleasantly surprised to find very a attentive and friendly staff. All staff members I could see were wearing face masks to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines and I do believe there was a sign on the door requiring patrons to wear them as well. This being said, when we walked in on Saturday, we did find a surprising number of customers not wearing masks. Now, I can appreciate that everyone has their own personal perspectives on wearing masks and I am NOT admonishing those who were not because respect that the individuals not wearing them may have had legitimate reasons . Personally, nearly every adult member of my family is in the "high-risk" category for COVID being devastating, so I am particularly conscientious about masks, so I am sharing this for those who may also be conscientious about wearing masks or who may be at high risk if they were to be inadvertently exposed. This being said, from what I could tell, the staff were NOT turning people away who were not wearing masks, so for those who do not, or cannot wear masks, this may be relevant for you as well. Overall, the vibe I got from BlackWing is that each and every person who walked through the door was important whether they were making a purchase or not. In retail, I can easily see how staff could get caught up in focusing on those who are spending large quantities of money at their establishment, but that did not seem, to me, to be the case here. This is the premier shooting center in central Ohio. They are busy for a reason, they are the best at what they do in a 100 mile radius. They have a great selcetion of firearms, ammunition, and just about every accessory you would or could want. Their customer service is amazing both in store and on the phone. When they say they are going to call you back they really do. That is rarer and rare these days. If someone does not have the answer about something, they will find someone that does. If they dont have it, they will try to order it for you. Their prices are competitive with any store or online location. Their employees are knowledgable, ask questions about your needs to not sell you something you dont want or would use, and everyone I have interacted with is very, very friendly. They have an indoor and outdoor range and great sales from time to time. My only complaint is I have to drive to Delaware. read more

Guns, guns, guns!! This place is great, and the husband and I have never had any issues with these guys, other than sometimes the older staff can feel TOO serious at times. Chill man, we ain't no thugs! Otherwise, the staff is usually friendly and super helpful by all means!! Black wing has indoor, and outdoor ranges. They have two sets of indoor handgun ranges, and plenty of spacious outdoor lanes for rifles, and skeet shooting. The ranges are always well kept and clean. The inventory on hand for Black wing is great. They carry a lot of nice concealed carry guns, and also have a decent showroom of rifles for hunting, sport, or home security needs. Black wing also has a TON-TOOOOONNNN of accessories for guns. They have holsters, gun oils, cleaning kits, cases... really pretty much anything you could need, or want. They offer just about every course you could, or would want, or need to take here. They have beginner courses, concealed carry courses, and skeet and clay pigeon shoot courses. The only bad experience here was that I rented an LCP, and it jammed quite a bit due to not being cleaned very well, so someone was slacking that day!! I'd recommend Black Wing to all gun enthusiasts (big or small), people who want to learn more about firearms, or people that need some time to de-stress from the hectic days at work with some target shooting. (implying that you're not mentally unstable, or crazy) Black Wing takes the Cake for a premier shooting center in Central Ohio. I'm very impressed with the staff here. There was an hour and a half wait for the indoor range (boy did we pick the wrong day to come) so we decided to go outside to the skeet range while we waited. The shotgun they rented us was very nice. The range outside was fun and very clean and the voice activation worked very well. Inside I decided to purchase my first handgun. The sales team was amazing. They talked me out of several purchases explaining why I didn't need them yet. They also were extremely patient and helpful in helping me understand what I had purchased and how to take care of it. If I had been up to my own devices, I would have wasted another 200. Inside the indoor range I was impressed by the cleanliness. And the staff everywhere was kind beyond expectations. I'll be getting a membership here for sure. read more

My favorite place to relax. Nothing like a good grouping to make my day. The people here are great always good to see them. My all time favorite range. I have been to a number of ranges and watch customers go to the counter, name the gun they want and with no questions asked, SOLD! At black wing the first question they ask is "have you ever fired a pistol/long gun" If the answer is no they invite you to rent the gun you asked for, shoot it and see how you like it. They try not to sell a person more gun than they can handle. Once you have a gun they will give you pointers about stance, grip and trigger pull. They have classes you have to pay for to teach you that stuff, but they freely offer their assistance. Sure made me want to take classes. The staff is very, very knowledgable and a lot of fun. They welcome you warmly and ask how you are doing, and seem genuinely happy at all improvement. It is noisy and smells like gun powder in the range area but all the customers seem friendly and truly enjoy destroying targets and swapping guns so you can try something new and different. I generally go with my son, David and grandson Sean we have contests and a great time. Can't wait for next week I have ammo left. read more

Let me say first that I am not a gun shooting aficionado. I went with my husband today because he likes to shoot some. We used all their equipment. If you have everything to bring yourself you will save a significant amount of money since you'd only have to pay the range rental fee. It was not a cheap date. The place was very large and clean and appeared to have a little bit of everything for the gun enthusiast. There is ample parking out front which is usually almost full every time I drive by. We went on a Wednesday afternoon so there was only a few people there. They seem to take gun safety very seriously which I liked. My only complaint really is I kept getting hit by shell casings by the range next to us. Don't know if there is anything that can prevent that though. My husband likes to shoot trap so I'd definitely like to go back and try that out. read more

Looking to try a gun before you buy it? They have that covered. Looking to buy a gun and have the best warranty any gun dealer can offer? They have that covered too. Hell is there anything they don't have covered? Nothing I've discovered yet. Being they are off of Marysville Rd/36 it's a bit of a drive from Columbus, but most definitely worth it! They have member and non-member prices, but even non members don't pay nose bleed amounts. That's always a plus as ammo isn't cheap unless you're shooting a 22lr type firearm and can shoot all day for $50. They have two indoor booths, one booth is handguns exclusively, the other is a shotgun/rifle/handgun booth, both have seven lanes each for enjoyment. They also have several outdoor lanes as well (weather permitting). Lane rental is full price (no time limit) and if there is a second person they pay half price. I am a non-member and have visited Black Wing numerous times and absolutely love it. If you do come out to Black Wing be sure to NOT BUY OR BRING STEEL/ALUMINUM ammo. They do not allow you to shoot that ammo it must be brass casing ammo. Jacketed Hollow Point are allowed as well as FMJ/target rounds. This place is your one stop shop for accesories, firearms, and shooting ranges. If you want a five star shooting experience or gun purchase be sure to pop in and check them out, you won't be disappointed. read more

The staff is very amenable to rookie shooters like myself, quick to offer advice and instruction. I felt no pressure to oversell me on products. Kudos! The facilities are great - clean, easy to understand, thoughtfully laid out. There's several trap shooting areas, a shooting course that is accessed by golf cart, and an indoor range. Gun rentals are cheap - just $15/day. I'd absolutely recommend this for afternoon entertainment or company outings. I am new to the sport of clay shooting, trap, skeet, 5-stand and sporting clay. I have been fortunate enough to have a father-in-law who has lent me a Remington 1100 magnum for life (or at least thats what I tell him). The gun was not cycling any shells once being shot. One should be able to pull trigger, shell pop out and then new shell is in the chamber to go right away. So 3 trigger pulls would result in 3 quick shots. I took this gun (Lets call her Amber) to a gun smith, who will remain not named, to look at and see if they can diagnose the issue. Long story short and 50 dollars later, I have to use magnum only shells. I say BS to this due to the fact that I have witnessed others using non-magnum shells in an identical shotgun. I then spoke to my neighbor who is an avid shooter and he suggested to go Black Wing. This was my first trip there, I live in Hilliard and found the drive to be very easy and quick. I walked in and was greeted by someone right away, I started talking to him and explained what was going on with Amber. He brought me over to what is essentially the shotgun side of the store (Shotgun side and everything else side), and introduces me to an old salt (think of someone who literally was born before 1935 with a gun in his hand and never put it down) named Mike. You knew by looking at him he knows everything about shotguns and shooting sports. Long story short he oiled up Amber, I went to shoot her and BAM (pun intended) cycled just fine. The issue was there was not enough oil and I was using Remington shells, which I found out (via Mike) that Remington guns do not cycle Remington shells. This shooting center, more like a compound, has everything a gun enthusiast would want to practice, blow off steam, compete or just shot some shit. as stated above they have trap, skeet, 5-stand and sporting clay for the shotgun lovers out there. For you archery type, they have have and outdoor range as well. In addition they have an indoor shooting range that will keep you coming back. They have a shopping area where you can get all the basics you'll need as well as gunsmithing. This place is pretty solid. I am giving it a 4 (for now) until I can compare it to other shooting centers. read more

This place...rocks...my...socks. The mere fact that I can say this with as much enthusiasm (that you can't feel through the web) for being a first time shooter amazes me. I attended Black Wing yesterday for a company outing and I have to say, I have never been around guns...have never seen one in person...never held one...ANYTHING...and I'll fully admit to being quite nervous about shooting. But this is life and life is meant to be experienced so since I've had a fear of guns, I decided to put the "balls-on-the-table" so-to-speak, man up and give it a shot of attempting to overcoming my fear of guns. Their facilities were SPOTLESS. Gun range, banquet facility area...everything was spic-n-span which you wouldn't think a gun range would be that way. Now I see why it's the only 5-star shooting range in Ohio. I can believe it. Everyone who worked there was really nice and super informative. We had a catered lunch by City BBQ and the whole set-up and event went completely smooth so super kudos to their event director. Now...onto the shooting part. You hear horror stories of recoil aka "kick-back" of a gun. The instructor (who was for the first group, who's name I cannot remember but was tall, had kind of a crew cut and wore glasses) was serious yet humorous to keep us relaxed and was extremely informative and helpful. He was never condescending when people had questions or needed help and was right there over-seeing everything. He was a great range officer. I stepped up to the plate and the jitters kinda kicked in...I'll admit. However, once the first three shots came out of the 22, I was completely comfortable with shooting and reloading the magazine. There was little recoil on this gun and was quick which made for a nice break-in beginner's experience. After, I browsed the shop and talked to JR about different types of guns since part of it does interest me for home protection as I've had a break in before while I was home. He gave me very detailed advice to a newbie on differences between a 22, 9mm and showed me a Bersa Thunder 380. He even offered to let me shoot other ones but refrained at this point yet appreciated his offer. He was very knowledgable and they do not work on commission so there is no pressure to sell which was nice. I could just get the information and think about it. I definitely plan on going back for the clay shooting that some of my other coworkers did outside. Everyone was professional and helpful and we all had a phenomenal time. They have several classes you can take too and their prices are totally reasonable. I liked it because it gave me the challenge my inner athlete craves but yet don't have to exert (at least on a 22) that much physical energy. More mentally challenging then anything. Girls day at the range here I come! So if you're looking to get over your fear of guns, this is the place to do it. A bit of a drive but totally worth it. Will definitely be returning as I enjoyed the challenge of target shooting. I did really well for the first time. I purchased a firearm on line. Web site said it was in stock. Completed transaction and waited for the call to come pick it up. Turns out the web site was wrong. They called and offered an opportunity to purchase something else in the store. I opted for a full refund. Very disappointing. I realize stuff happens but they could have offered to find one or order one. Neither was offered as an option. Guess that would have been too much trouble for a long time customer. I'll give this place credit. It is a very nice facility. However, this experience was totally unacceptable. I just got the impression that they really did not care. To the 1 guy that looked like aqua man and Thor, (Ak-47 expert) and the other worker helping me out with a issue with my gun and giving me upmost respect the entire time I was there I will now say this place has my business. These people know what They are talking about (unlike RANGE USA who have monkey testicals for brains on a Tuesday night and hire mimes that try to teach a blind dog to play football when you ask them a question when it comes to anything gun related and being nice to customers.) They showed me the issue with my gun and helped me understand the issues going on with my Ak-47. The last 10 times I've been in there they ask if I need help with anything, greet me, and are really nice people and have respect towards customers. If you were to learn for shooting tips and anything gun related issues go to blackwing. (Also unlike range USA who charges a arm and a kidney for their guns and equipment). So, I called and was transferred to retail the guy laughed at me. I was kosher and finished my call. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Gigantic, clean facility selling almost any kind of shooting accessory you could possibly need. Indoor and outdoor ranges open to the public. When I stopped in and told them I'm from Chicago, where you can't find such places, they pushed a scheduled CCW class back so that I could get some time in on their indoor range before heading back home. They're a little pricey compared to other places in the area, but at least when it comes to the service here, you're certainly getting what you pay for. read more

The plan was to drop off my Glock 19 to have TFO sights installed while I shot a round of sporting clays with my dad. At first I was told that the gunsmith was in the shop, but not working on guns that day. I walked away disappointed, when another guy behind the counter asked what I needed done. I told him, and he said, "No problem. We'll take care of that.". Great!!! Or, was it? Long story, short, a 10 minute sight install turned into a $45 slap in the face. I expected to either have it done for free as a customer service for someone who just spent $200 in clays, range time and a new range bag, or maybe $20 tops. But $45 for 10 minutes of work??? I've been supporting these guys for years, and to receive that kind of service was really disappointing. This place has turned into an over-priced money pit. Moral of the story, a bad customer experience can quickly change your overall opinion. These guys should go back to when they were a great shop that treated customers fairly, and weren't grubbing for every last penny. UPDATE: The sights have been installed for less than 48 hours. I went to disassemble my Glock, and the front sight is completely loose. Not wasting my time going back to Black Wing's "gunsmith" (who clearly did not put locktite on the post screw - should be common sense for any gunsmith). Ordered the front sight tool from Amazon, and I'll do it myself. Never going back to Black Wing again. LEPD is closer to home, and the guys there still care about customer service. read more

I took Blackwing's advanced concealed course in Jan 2012 and it was excellent. The two instructors emphasized safety and fundamental skills of clear your weapon, draw, acquire and fire.There were 12 students and we each fired 150 rounds. It was the best money I have spent after my basic CC course. If you carry, you should take this course. read more
