There is a restroom facility at the main parking lot, and those have reopened. There is a small playground (a few slides, activities, and a little bit of climbing) on the other side of the lot, along with two open-air shelters with picnic tables. This side also features the pretty pond, which offers catch-and-release fishing, and access to the Shagbark Loop trail, which is a gravel path through a meadow and a wooded section that is the longest available one at 1.1 miles, and is pet-friendly. It connects to the short grassy Bluestem Trail in a meadow, or can be looped back around to stay on Shagbark the entire time. This trail also shows the park's roots as farmland, as you can see old farm equipment in the woods along the way, and there is also a wetland area. If you take the Shagbark all the way back towards the front of the park, you will also encounter Blues Creek. There is another small parking lot available here, along with another trailhead for Shagbark. If you head out past the restrooms near the main parking lot, there is a sledding hill and a trailhead for the grassy Fox Run trail. There is currently a storywalk on this side, as well. You can connect to the grassy Meadowlark Trail. Both trails are pet friendly. They are mainly meadow, but there is a short section that winds through the woods. Blues Creek also has a "Be a Star" astronomy activities available right now as you explore the park - even the story walk featured a book about space. Very pretty and relaxing park!

The hunting and marsh area of the hatchery is a very beautiful place full of wildlife there is also a archery range that is available to the public. If your looking for a chill place to go for a walk and explore this would be a neat place to check out. Be aware that during hunting seasons there could be deer or waterfowl lottery hunts taking place.

The facility is just off the 70 near Buckeye Lake, though presently some road construction requires you to drive a large loop to get there. If you're curious about the hatchery, the education center is a good place to start. There are displays about hatchery operations and some brochures that guide you around the rest of the buildings. The Hebron Fish Hatchery raises walleyes, saugeyes, striped bass, bluegills, and channel catfish. There are sixty-three open in-ground ponds, where you can hike and birdwatch. The fish holding and distribution center has large tanks of fish and the incubation area, where you can see tubes of fish eggs that will make you a little reluctant to eat tapioca in the future. It was an open house event when I visited, so there were several activities for kids including a fishing pond and an archery range. The staff was friendly and happy to talk about the hatchery. I grew up visiting the Nimbus Fish Hatchery on the American River in CA, which collects and raises Pacific salmon and steelhead, but this is a far more modest operation. It's certainly worth a look around, but don't make a special trip from Columbus just to see the place.

The online…read morereservation site has all the details on lot size, electricity info, distance to showers, etc. However, it's limited in showing different dates, which is frustrating. Anyway, the check-in time is 3pm and check-out is 1pm. We paid fifty-three dollars per night for two adults and one dog, with a six fifty reservation charge. Check-in was easy, and the attendant was helpful; you just drive up to the office, check-in and go on your way. The layout is similar to a subdivision with cul-de-sacs and each spot having its own little yard, making it feel somewhat like camping in the woods. Our neighbors were quiet and most vehicles drove slowly. Everyone we met was pleasant and friendly. The camp itself was clean and easy to hook up. Bathrooms and showers were clean and there was plenty of toilet paper. Large trash bins were available along with gray water stations. The only thing I'd suggest is for the site identifiers to be repainted, as several had faded over time. We visited the beach, but didn't go swimming, given the temperature. The pond is catch and release and seemed maintained and not stagnant. The budget limitations need to be considered before passing judgment. We used bug spray every day and that seemed to help keep the bugs away. The site we booked had a level surface and plenty of room to back in. The water and electrical were easily accessible and worked fine. A lot of campers used an inline water filter. The water quality report is on the park website for anyone interested. The grass was well trodden, making a camp rug a must-have. There was also a fire pit with a grill attached, but we didn't use it to cook. Also, at the time, there wasn't a burn ban. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and we'll definitely return. It was fun to walk down the aisles and see all the setups and decorations and note future camp site options. How many campers are long-timers, it's hard to tell. But we were pleased and our dog loved exploring on our walks.
