The atmosphere and vibe of this place is genuinely immaculate, even when it's flooded shoulder to shoulder with people inside. Their coffee is either exceptional or "alright" but the best reason to go here is their actual food and pastries. Despite living in London for the past few years, I only recently tried out this place! This beautiful cafe is very conveniently located and is always busy. During peak times, it may be difficult to find a seat but they do open up fairly quickly. The service here is amazing, they're super attentive and nice which is a big plus. In terms of their food, their cruffins are TO DIE FOR - I absolutely love them to death. They rotate their flavours and every single one I've had has been phenomenal. Admittedly, difficult to eat which the sugar coating on the croissant mixed with the custard inside but still so so good that it's worth the mess. I do wish it was served warmed which would take it to the next level! The sandwiches are surprisingly good as well. My favourite is the ham and Swiss. It is very filling and I love how much they pack into the sandwich (especially how much Dijon they put in it hehe). In terms of the coffee, it was decent. I was expecting more bold flavours to come out and taste the richness but unfortunately I could not. Maybe I had too high of expectations for the coffee after tasting the pastries and food but regardless, it was still decent coffee. Overall though, this place is an amazing place to sit down, eat, read, study, and catch up with friends! I definitely will be coming back and trying more of their items :) read more

I want to give this establishment more stars but the three are based on its location more so than on anything else. My husband and I both had different coffees that were unfortunately were Luke warm, and mediocre We had potato salad for lunch which was very bland. I wish we had chosen to try a baked good. There was a gentleman working who didn't look particularly happy to be there. We did purchase a bag of coffee to take home which we did enjoy. If you are looking for ambiance this establishment is better than another coffee shop attached to the hardware store, but if your goal is a good cup of coffee then the shop attached to the hardware store is your better choice. Baked items are excellent, the cruffin is unique! Coffee is good as well. Service is fast. What limits me from going to this establishment is the sense they want to rush me out. Another concern is the constant bad mouthing of other local establishments. I drink a lot of coffee and am happy to support all local businesses equally. Local businesses should support each other. Came here for a caramel macchiato which was delicious. I got an oatmeal cookie and my friend the pecan butter tart which were both enjoyable. We arrived at a busy time and all the tables were taken up with no place to sit. As we waited for my drink, we felt in the way wherever we were. Besides that, it was good! Love this little cafe. The food is perfect, and so is the coffee! I like to come here every time I'm in London. The spinach pie is my favorite, but if you're in the mood for something sweet there is also a number of great cakes, brownies and cookies. Can't go wrong. Met a friend here for coffee and a scone, so while there were many yummy-looking things in the pastry window I am basing my review on these items alone. Atmosphere: this is a cute little place. It was busy, but we managed to snag a table. They have a patio and it was a nice day so it was full. I imagine it can get very busy inside in the winter and when it rains. Service: The baristas were very friendly and helpful. The ordering process was a little confused, but they made it work. Coffee: I had a plain ol' light roast coffee, black (as it should be). The coffee was tasty and smooth, but nothing too exciting. Definitely better than Starbucks and miles above Tim Horton's, though. Snack: I had an oatmeal and date scone at the server's suggestion. It was good, but not the kind of "holy crap this is good" that I normally hope for when I decide to spend the calories on a baked good in a cafe. We visit the Black Walnut most weeks and always find an excellent selection of baked goods and other items. Coffee is always very good. On several recent visits we enjoyed the butter tarts and the pecan butter tarts as well as their Chelsea buns. All were fresh and a generous size. Very good value. One of our party indicated the butter tarts were the best he had ever had. Pastry is very good. Croissants were also very good. Very flaky and a nice buttery taste. Salads were also very good as was the soup. There are usually two soup choices and a number of salads. While we did not order any sandwiches, we noticed several at other tables and they were very nicely presented and are made to order. They also have an excellent meat pie that we have taken home on several occasions. This is a very busy spot at times and it can be hard to find a seat but it is worth the wait. If you live around Wortley Village you know that the place has always needed two things - a pub that serves good beer, and a coffee shop that serves good coffee. (Little Red Roaster, I'm looking at you when I say that second thing). I can't help you with the beer. But Black Walnut can certainly help you with the coffee. Which is, in my estimation, fricking awesome. Also the food is pretty good: sandwiches, soups and salads are good lunchtime fare, and they have cookies and other good treats for the rest of the time. The service is friendly enough, although nobody's yelling "Norm!' when you walk in or anything. The space is generally pretty nice - there's lots of good seating, and comfortable enough that you could go there and perch for a bit while you read a book or do some work. Does get busy at lunchtime, so arrive early. read more

What a cute and cozy Cafe! Its got a very nice and casual environment in a very quaint area of London. They had a nice selection of baked goods. I split a fruity scone with a friend and it was delicious. The coffee is good, but I haven't been to many places in london so I don't have much to compare it to. I had a latte, it wasn't the greatest but it's basically on par with the Starbucks of the world. They had a pretty decent selection of teas. I just love the look of this cafe! Perfect place for a coffee date or to meet up with a girlfriend. Also has a nice big patio for the summer. Except when I was there in the summer there was so many bees we had to move inside. Service was good. I had a latte which was as expected.
