The atmosphere and vibe of this place is genuinely immaculate, even when it's flooded shoulder to shoulder with people inside. Their coffee is either exceptional or "alright" but the best reason to go here is their actual food and pastries. I feel like it is RARE to find a coffee shop that offers pastries that ALL taste amazing, and this place seems to nail it. I love coming here whenever possible and the people that work behind the counter are so patient and understanding. read more

Despite living in London for the past few years, I only recently tried out this place! This beautiful cafe is very conveniently located and is always busy. During peak times, it may be difficult to find a seat but they do open up fairly quickly. The service here is amazing, they're super attentive and nice which is a big plus. In terms of their food, their cruffins are TO DIE FOR - I absolutely love them to death. They rotate their flavours and every single one I've had has been phenomenal. Admittedly, difficult to eat which the sugar coating on the croissant mixed with the custard inside but still so so good that it's worth the mess. I do wish it was served warmed which would take it to the next level! The sandwiches are surprisingly good as well. My favourite is the ham and Swiss. It is very filling and I love how much they pack into the sandwich (especially how much Dijon they put in it hehe). In terms of the coffee, it was decent. I was expecting more bold flavours to come out and taste the richness but unfortunately I could not. Maybe I had too high of expectations for the coffee after tasting the pastries and food but regardless, it was still decent coffee. Overall though, this place is an amazing place to sit down, eat, read, study, and catch up with friends! I definitely will be coming back and trying more of their items :) read more

I want to give this establishment more stars but the three are based on its location more so than on anything else. My husband and I both had different coffees that were unfortunately were Luke warm, and mediocre We had potato salad for lunch which was very bland. I wish we had chosen to try a baked good. There was a gentleman working who didn't look particularly happy to be there. We did purchase a bag of coffee to take home which we did enjoy. If you are looking for ambiance this establishment is better than another coffee shop attached to the hardware store, but if your goal is a good cup of coffee then the shop attached to the hardware store is your better choice. This being said any business can have a bad day. Love Wortley Village read more

The bakery part is where I visited, and it was a great experience. The food is mouth watering and the prices are fair. The staff are delightful and knowledgeable about the products. read more

Baked items are excellent, the cruffin is unique! Coffee is good as well. Service is fast. What limits me from going to this establishment is the sense they want to rush me out. Another concern is the constant bad mouthing of other local establishments. I drink a lot of coffee and am happy to support all local businesses equally. Local businesses should support each other. So to sum up, product is great but the owner needs to learn some people skills. Hey owner, if you don't like people then don't run a business like this. read more

Came here for a caramel macchiato which was delicious. I got an oatmeal cookie and my friend the pecan butter tart which were both enjoyable. We arrived at a busy time and all the tables were taken up with no place to sit. As we waited for my drink, we felt in the way wherever we were. Besides that, it was good! Definitely would still recommend it. read more

Great little find in Wortley Village! Over the years I have become a fan of trendy hip cafes in vibrant communities, and the Black Walnut is one! This place makes lunches, sandwiches, pizza, and most importantly is known for the coffee and desserts. The atmosphere is great, very quaint, and the desserts are very appealing and desirable. For anyone coming to London make sure to visit Wortley Village! read more

Love this little cafe. The food is perfect, and so is the coffee! I like to come here every time I'm in London. The spinach pie is my favorite, but if you're in the mood for something sweet there is also a number of great cakes, brownies and cookies. Can't go wrong. Depending on what time you go it can get very busy! Avoid the usual busy times like noon. We usually get lucky and find a table among the limited seating. read more

We came in and bought 2 pastries but happened to already have a coffee with us as we had strolled down the street. We just sat down when we were told that no outside food or drink was allowed. So we left. By the way, it wouldn't hurt this bakery to have a couple of gluten-free desserts for those who require it. Not a welcoming experience ! read more

The Black Walnut is a staple in Wortley. If you're looking for something quick, I don't recommend it as it's a more leisurely place. However, you can taste the quality in all they do. Our family favourites include the Jamaican patty, and the chocolate banana bread pudding! read more

Great people watching spot in Wortley Village! I stopped in on a rare warm November afternoon and not surprisingly all their outdoor tables were packed. I was on the hunt for to-go anyways so didn't mind. Had a medium roast Colombian that was just a perfect enhancement to the fall day. I also splurged on a peach oat muffin that was crunchy on top, moist in the middle. Great place to treat yourself! read more

Finally a place in London that takes coffee seriously (you're pretty good too, Fire Roasted). Had an Americano and date square and both were perfect. I can't wait to go back to try more things, especially that pumpkin tart. The location can't be beat. I wish I had visited Wortley Village before I moved here, because it's one of the cooler neighbourhoods I've seen in London. It's a small town that's literally 10 minutes to downtown by walk. And it reminds me so much of some of the smaller boroughs in Montreal. read more

Met a friend here for coffee and a scone, so while there were many yummy-looking things in the pastry window I am basing my review on these items alone. Atmosphere: this is a cute little place. It was busy, but we managed to snag a table. They have a patio and it was a nice day so it was full. I imagine it can get very busy inside in the winter and when it rains. Service: The baristas were very friendly and helpful. The ordering process was a little confused, but they made it work. Coffee: I had a plain ol' light roast coffee, black (as it should be). The coffee was tasty and smooth, but nothing too exciting. Definitely better than Starbucks and miles above Tim Horton's, though. Snack: I had an oatmeal and date scone at the server's suggestion. It was good, but not the kind of "holy crap this is good" that I normally hope for when I decide to spend the calories on a baked good in a cafe. It was a bit dry, and more biscuity than sconey to me. I'd be happy to come back and try some of the other items (quiches, frittatas... it all looked good!) and wouldn't hesitate to suggest Black Walnut for a coffee stop in London. read more

Delicious coffee, specialty drinks and food. My friend and I had chocolate banana bread and a curry chicken sandwich. We really enjoyed the food and drinks and will definitely be back. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere for coffee with a friend or date. read more

Black Walnut Bakery Cafe - Coffee & Tea Near Me - London, Ontario

We visit the Black Walnut most weeks and always find an excellent selection of baked goods and other items. Coffee is always very good. On several recent visits we enjoyed the butter tarts and the pecan butter tarts as well as their Chelsea buns. All were fresh and a generous size. Very good value. One of our party indicated the butter tarts were the best he had ever had. Pastry is very good. Croissants were also very good. Very flaky and a nice buttery taste. Salads were also very good as was the soup. There are usually two soup choices and a number of salads. While we did not order any sandwiches, we noticed several at other tables and they were very nicely presented and are made to order. They also have an excellent meat pie that we have taken home on several occasions. This is a very busy spot at times and it can be hard to find a seat but it is worth the wait. An excellent coffee spot in Wortley Village read more

Black Walnut Bakery Cafe - The Black Walnut got a new three-group head Elektra!!! Congratulations and best of luck! :) - Coffee & Tea Near Me - London, Ontario

If you live around Wortley Village you know that the place has always needed two things - a pub that serves good beer, and a coffee shop that serves good coffee. (Little Red Roaster, I'm looking at you when I say that second thing). I can't help you with the beer. But Black Walnut can certainly help you with the coffee. Which is, in my estimation, fricking awesome. Also the food is pretty good: sandwiches, soups and salads are good lunchtime fare, and they have cookies and other good treats for the rest of the time. The service is friendly enough, although nobody's yelling "Norm!' when you walk in or anything. The space is generally pretty nice - there's lots of good seating, and comfortable enough that you could go there and perch for a bit while you read a book or do some work. Does get busy at lunchtime, so arrive early. read more

Came here to meet a friend, and let's just say their Almond-Milk London Fog Latte warmed up my cold shoulder. I would be wary of how busy it can get sometimes - when I arrived, there was a line outside the door! This was on a Sunday at 1pm. By 2pm, the line was nonexistent. Weird fluke? Not sure. I think this is a good spot to meet with friends, and grab a snack. My friend loves their carrot cake. read more

I have yet to try a hot beverage here but I can attest to the tastiness of their salads, pies (quiches), and cookies. I look forward to going back again and again. :) My only gripe is the seating. Whenever I have been there the little place has been full. Oh well... the food is good to-go too. :) read more

I came in to meet a couple of my friends to knit/crochet because taking up hobbies that your grandma takes up is the cool thing to do. This cozy little cafe has a really friendly staff and decent prices for their product. The only real reason I can't give them a five star is because they don't have comfy seating. I know it sounds ridiculous, but comfy seating is important to me in a cozy cafe. I have to say though, I haven't really found anywhere in London that has that, so if you happen to be reading this and know somewhere, message me. ... and if the owner of black walnut happens to be reading this, you should invest in some couches to appease me. You don't have to though, I'm just suggesting is all read more

Recommend the chicken salad sandwich and the tastiest coffee in London My sunday ritual is to read the paper (it gets busy here so you might be hard pressed to find a paper available to read) with a mug of their amazing coffee and a warm white cheddar scone. What a cute and cozy Cafe! Its got a very nice and casual environment in a very quaint area of London. They had a nice selection of baked goods. I split a fruity scone with a friend and it was delicious. The coffee is good, but I haven't been to many places in london so I don't have much to compare it to. I had a latte, it wasn't the greatest but it's basically on par with the Starbucks of the world. They had a pretty decent selection of teas. The seating was nice, with a small hidden area in the back. I really like the location of this place, it's perfectly situated on a street corner which suits it quite well. I'd go back again. read more

I just love the look of this cafe! Perfect place for a coffee date or to meet up with a girlfriend. Also has a nice big patio for the summer. Except when I was there in the summer there was so many bees we had to move inside. Service was good. I had a latte which was as expected. I tried a cruffin which is a cross between a croissant and a muffin. A neat pastry idea and very tasty but so so sweet. Will definitely return. read more

This coffee shop in London is busier than multi-branch coffee houses. But it has some valuable perks: the staff are friendly, atmosphere unpretentious and the food selection is better than other cafes. Visiting from Chicago. Thought this place was so overrated that there should be an inquiry. Weak coffee, terrible butter tart (barely edible) and the noise level in the cafe is basically like working in a factory. This is not a relaxing place to go for your morning cup read more

Love this coffee shop/bakery!! They have coconut flavor (seems like not many places carry this favor) and it goes great in their light roast coffee. Quick and friendly coffee and food, with a nice customer appreciation style card, shame the space is quite cramped

Well I don't usually like to give a negative review but I was less than impressed this afternoon. I had the Greek lemon chicken soup which was tasty and then my friend and I shared a fig bar. I was here for the first time yesterday and chose this place soley based on yelp reviews. I searched for coffee shops/bakeries with outdoor seating and this place was ranked #1 for coffee in London. I like trying local places rather than always buying my coffee at franchise coffee shops. I ordered a latte and a rhubarb coffee cake and enjoyed a friend's company outside in the sunshine. It's definitely a very nice and inviting place. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. Wortley Village is a really cute place to meet up with a friend for a cup of coffee or for dinner and take a walk afterwards. I definitely recommend it. read more

I like their oatmeal and date scone. This location is generally quite busy at any time of the day with a lot of groups sitting and hanging. Nice spot to lounge. Not wheelchair/stroller friendly but they have outdoor seating if someone can order for you (if you in a w/c). It's also a bit tight inside to navigate a w/c or stroller. Coffee is good. read more

Their service is great, and the baked goods are fantastic. Just had a croissant muffin with rhubarb and ginger custard - incredible!
