One of a local chain located in the MetLife building. Loud pop music, waiting area and some high top seats around the counter. I ended up grabbing a coffee, tea, and some bagels to go - though we didn't need them toasted, it took some time as they grabbed the bagels, cut and prepped with the cream cheese. When they called out, it was hard to hear clearly with the music so loud and they admonished my friend for coming up to see if the order was done or not. Great layout of the store. Hard to find though. The bagel wasn't bad but a BEC $12 is pretty expensive. You can get the same thing at a bodega for half the price. There was nothing special about the BEC or the bagel. I did like that they didn't scramble the eggs. The service was a little slower than expected. I've known of Black Seed Bagels for years, but never tried them before the other day. Bagels will always be a hot-button issue with New Yorkers, with varied responses as to where to get the best ones in the City. My colleagues were looking to get some bagels the other morning, and since I was in the mood and curious to check this place out, I decided to join them. There are several Black Seeds throughout the city - this specific one is located inside the MetLife building, so if you don't know it's here you'll likely miss it. The actual place is small - the majority of the space is production with a small queue area and some stools lining the perimeter where you can sit and enjoy your carbs. Bagels are obviously the star, with a variety of cream cheeses to complement them. They also do breakfast sandwiches and have a variety of coffee beverages. I decided to go relatively simple and get a sesame seed bagel with veggie cream cheese. The bagel was fine - they toasted it by default which I actually prefer, but I didn't find anything too outstanding about it. It kinda had the consistency of a mass-produced supermarket bagel, not one that comes from a place that advertises bagels in their name. While service was friendly, I also found it to be slow - at least slow by the standard of it being a weekday morning in Midtown where people needed to grab their breakfast and head to work. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with Black Seed; there's nothing inherently wrong with the bagels, it just didn't wow me, especially by NYC standards. I might return for convenience sake since it's close to my office, or if I'm in a pinch - just know there are better bagels out there. read more

This is one of the worst bagels in New York City. They still taste fine but a bagel from the grocery store tossed in the toaster will do exactly the same trick. It tastes incredibly bland and could use a good amount of salt. Prices here are not terrible but too high considering the quality. The staff is friendly and the food is prepared at a typical pace-- even egg sandwiches come out relatively fast. Weirdly enough this is still probably still one of the better places to eat in grand central so I will probably come again... out of necessity. Just be aware what you are going into. read more

I had the AB+J on a multigrain bagel and it was fantastic. I was really in the mood for bagels at the time, and it hit the spot. Cashier was friendly. I like the vibe of the place; I happened to be there at a time when it wasn't too busy, so I was able to have my bagel in peace. The bagel itself had a lot going on. A really coarse almond butter, the jam had that raspberry flavor, and the bagel itself was good and the oats on the outside was a perfect topping. It all came together nicely. read more

I have come here a couple of times. I went to try the Iberico Chorizo EEG and cheese on an everything bagel. I did add hot sauce on it and I put pepper jack cheese. The sandwich was good but to me it was a bit dry. I thought adding the hot sauce would have helped the sandwich be more flavorful. If the chorizo had more fat then it would have added to the overall taste of the sandwich and helped with the dryness of the sandwich. The arrive is always good and they move fast. This place is nice and it is a take and go place. I would say order online so it is quicker. read more

The bagels here are on the slightly sweet side and in the Montreal style, although not entirely similar to St. Viateur or Fairmount. Stick with the plain, sesame, or everything, as the cinnamon raisin is a bit dry and on the tough side. The price is at parity with other NY bagels, and the size is a bit smaller but still generous enough for a meal. Worth a stop if you are in the mood for a slightly different twist. Turkey Reuben on multigrain sandwich - loved the multigrain bagel! It was hearty and I tasted the multigrain notes all throughout the meal. Can def know it's been baked fresh and had the newly baked bread taste. Service was nice! Cashier was prompt and explained the differences of the bagels. But she had taken a wrong order choice for my bagel. But all good- multigrain bagel was still a score! Small store, love the outdoor seats outside. I had tried the Rockefeller location of Black Seed Bagels about a year back and was very disappointed. I was in a rush and decided to grab a BEC here on my way into Grand Central and I was so incredibly pleased. The bagel was that perfect blend of crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The eggs tasted fresh and the bacon was crispy. The staff was friendly and joking around with me even at an early hour. My pro tip with any sort of bagel sandwich? Always add cream cheese to it. Maybe I was just hungry, but this was one of the better BEC's I've had in this area. (Do keep in mind it's a bit spendy because of its location.) read more

The tables, chairs, and floor were all clean. We didn't have to interact with staff as we placed an online order that was already at the pick up area when we arrived. Work in the building so it is convenient. Today was my last time going. First off, it is a rip off. There are plenty of other bagel places close that are more reasonable. Second, they prepare food poorly. My bagel was cut so strangely (pictured) the top half was super thin and the bottom way too thick, made it impossible to eat. They are no very accommodating, they refused to scoop out my bagel which was frustrating (never had an nyc bagel place not scoop out). Lastly, today I got the tuna salad, it said bulk to go, so I got the smallest size. Was not aware it was literally going to be in a sauce container. 3 bites of food for $6. Very upsetting.
