I got there 15 minutes before the walk in time and only had to wait less than 30 minutes before they called me up and helped me choose my jewelry. I was so nervous to get my navel pierced because I had an umbilical hernia that required surgery. I haven't loved my scar and have felt a bit "butchered" since then, so I was super anxious even to have a consultation. I'd heard so many mixed opinions and was terrified of looking even more scarred. But I couldn't be happier -- the piercing ended up going right through the scar, and it turned out beautifully. The pain was about a 4/10, honestly less than my nose piercing, and I have a pretty high tolerance. My sibling came with me and also got their navel done, which they rated a 6/10 pain. We both got our nipples pierced at the same time, and those were more like an 8-9/10 for both of us. Painful, but absolutely worth it! The total was around $350 for three piercings and jewelry. Huge thank you to Savvy -- they were an absolute delight and so kind throughout the whole experience. I even brought my mom and grandma, and we can definitely be a lot, but Savvy made everything comfortable and light hearted and positive. Overall, it was amazing. Definitely pricier than where I usually go, but these piercings were very personal and important to me, so I'm glad I chose this place. A little hesitant to leave a low-star review given the following of this shop, but after getting pierced at another shop today I feel that I have a bit more perspective regarding the area. First positive stuff - shop looks super cute and is such a vibe. Josh (my piercer) was so professional and helpful. He pierced my double-conch and a flat on my right ear. Lots of holes in one sitting but was totally bearable and he did well. Sad-face stuff - the shop is so expensive. I would never expect my piercing day to cost as much as a tattoo. My 3 piercings plus jewelry was almost $500. Additionally - I don't know if they comprehended what I meant when I said I had a nickel allergy... my ears BLEW UP. I went back to get a longer post and the swelling didn't subside at all... My ear isn't fully healed yet, but I switched my jewelry out to some titanium posts from my lip piercing and the swelling went down so fast. I would assume the expensive jewelry I paid for was nickel free and I assume people in the industry understand surgical steel and stainless steel include nickel. I put the post they gave me in a different hole and that started to blow up too. After going to a different shop today that indicated jewelry is included in their pricing and offered deals on top of their pricing - I don't have much of a reason to go back to Black Hole. Solely based on the cost alone. The pricing isn't even this astronomical in the San Francisco Bay are where everything is generally more expensive. There, I've been pierced at ~6 different studios and the prices are either ~$80 total or ~$40 piercing fee and under $40 for jewelry which is all still more affordable than ~$166 per piercing I paid at this shop. Appreciate the talent and the piercers here, I just don't think it's worth it. read more

This is the only piercing place I fully trust when it comes to anatomy consultations, high quality jewelry, and the act of piercing itself! Yes their prices may be steep, but they are very skilled in what they do and it makes their prices worth it! And, they're APP certified! While I was saddened to find out I didn't have the anatomy for an industrial and a navel, I appreciate their honesty because their advice saved me money and stress from these piercings being rejected from my body, although I already tried my luck at another non-APP certified piercing place in town with a navel, which unfortunately rejected and left a scar. Their equipment and jewelry are pre-sterilized with an autoclave, and they never use piercing guns, which are damaging to the ear rather than using a needle. They also currently have apprentices, Savvy and Montana, who are very good at their jobs and are usually watched by Angela, the owner of the shop, whenever they give out piercings, which made me more reassured that I would be pierced correctly. I currently have a tongue and daith piercing under my belt that have healed nicely, and I am looking forward to getting many more from Black Hole! read more

My 8 year old daughter has been talking about getting her ears pierced for a while, but up until a few weeks ago hadn't really asked for us to make an appointment. I did some research and asked friends, and everyone I talked to recommended Black Hole. I made an appointment online, and they sent numerous reminders, called me to make sure I knew what we needed to bring (parent ID and child's birth certificate) and I figured if they were this organized and on top of things, I must have made the right choice. We came in for the appointment, and I completed an online waiver, they checked the documents we brought, and let us look at the jewelry case to pick out some earrings. All of the staff were extremely welcoming, and the shop itself is really nice, clean and had all of the piercing rooms completely private, which I loved. Once my daughter picked her earrings, we waited while they got the room ready, and sanitized the jewelry. Tony brought us in the room, and made my daughter feel at ease from the start. He asked her for her permission before he did anything, and talked through each step of the process as he was going through it. She got to look at the dots where he was going to pierce, he answered any questions we had, and was an absolute professional the entire time. When he had everything ready, he called in Josh to assist (they do tandem piercings for younger kids, which is awesome). They coached her with her breathing, and within a few seconds, she was pierced! She said it didn't really hurt, and she was so excited to check out her sparkly new earrings. They gave us instructions on how to care for the piercings, and made an appointment to check in on them in about 6-8 weeks. I used to like this place until I realize they basically are running a racket. You pay for each downsize, and they NEVER downsize enough. Each downsize is roughly 40 bucks. I've needed my helix downsized THREE times. Needless to say, I eventually just went to Zales and bought traditional butterfly back earrings to wear in the helix, no need for downsizing by black hole. Literally paid black hole 120 dollars for multiple downsizes, and that piece of helix jewelry is still wayyyyyyy too long. I'm sorry. Fuck this place. Huge racket. Go somewhere else. It is absolutely a black hole for your fucking money. I see the owner responded to correct me about the price of the posts. I'm sure the owner knows what her store charges, so I'm not going to attempt to dispute that. My main issue is that you're paying for a shorter post that is never shortened enough, so you have to come back and do it again two weeks, a month later. How many times are we expected to come in for downsizing? I feel like I've come in so often just for the helix. And it still fits awful, way too fucking long. I'm so sorry. But it's a very screwy model. I guess tourists just get stuck with insanely long jewelry at your shop since they can't come back for multiple fucking downsize appts! My issue isn't with the cost of the post. It's the fact that you guys won't offer a short enough post, forcing me to come back in over and over for downsizing. That's the fucking issue. This is a difficult review to leave because my experience with my actual piercing specialist vs the store as a whole don't line up. Let me start by saying that Josh who did my piercings is a 10/5 rating. He was thorough, funny, professional and knowledgeable. He made having needles stabbed through my nipples as painless as it can probably be. If I was only rating based on Josh it would be ten out of five stars, if not more. However, I'm rating on the shop as a whole. First off, I've had this procedure done years ago before babies and breastfeeding. I know that the quoted price includes base jewelry. 4th of July my fiance called the shop to make an appointment and get a price. We were quoted $90.00. My fiance made sure to ask if that included jewelry. We were told yes. Upon arrival the front desk girl checked us in. To her right was a jewelry room. I went in to browse and asked if I could choose any of the nipple jewelry shown. She said YES it was all safe for new piercings. As I was looking a female employee came out and called a client into the jewelry room, and I was asked to leave. I guess only one person can look at jewelry at a time. Right away this rubbed me wrong. The front desk girl then amended her statement to say "actually your piercing professional can go over jewelry with you. During this time my fiance got me a cup of water and set it next to me, while I filled out paper work. Next another female employee came out and grabbed two small racks of jewelry to show me. She said I could only choose from those. Hmmm, that was a let down. R asked for pricing and she said she didn't know until she typed it in the tablet. We pointed out two pieces. The first one got a price of $600 and the second a price or $1,200.00. We were taken way aback as that was no where near the quote on the phone. We asked for the basic price jewelry and suddenly she knew right where to point. We were quoted over $250.00 for basic jewelry. Hmmm, much different than the phone quote. Also, I could work there for a day and have memorized the pricing based on levels and I could easily guide a customer before they got excited about pretty fun jewelry. Also, she clearly knew where the base jewelry was, why not be honest. After taking almost $300.00 from us (really not the quoted price) she left and we were advised that our piercing specialist would be out soon. So wait, who was she if not our specialist? My fiance went to sit outside, I sat down inside and the front desk girl snarkily asked if my fiance left his water on her counter. I apologized saying he had got it for me but I hadn't noticed, and jumped up to grab it. I then went out front with him because I never knew I could feel so much shame over a glass of water. This is when they finally called us in to wait for Josh. After that the experience was phenomenal. Josh is wonderful and should work at a better shop. The rest of my experience with this business tells me, my next piercing will come from any shop but this one. A little too hoity toity and rude for this life long Nevada native. Super let down by the "support" staff overall. To the owner who replied it was unreasonable To expect anyone to remember the cost of over 2000 sets of jewelry, ultimately we were shown only two small racks of jewelry with maybe 16 rows. I'm sorry, but as someone who has been in customer service for years I promise they should have noticed the difference between the row that was $1,200 and the row that was $250.00. This place has been a Reno staple since I can remember. It is located In The heart of midtown inside of a a really cute older home. Therefore parking is sometimes interesting but always works out. It is a very hygienic piercing place as well with nice, knowledgeable staff. They also have some of the best quality jewelry around (which also means a matching high price) but well worth it. They have everything you can pretty much think of. The only reason I give this place a 4 out 5 star is due to accessibility. They used to let people come in and wait or just see the jewelry but now they do not allow that with an appointment. EVERYTHING must have an appointment just to walk through the door. People used to get pierced on a whim with my appointment but now someone can't even go in to look at the jewelry and buy it without an appointment. I get crowd control but that's over the top. Whoever owns it hires people who deliver poor customer service. Everyone you have to deal with before the actual piercing just ruins the experience. If you make an appointment they don't respect it or honor it. The hidden fees here are also crazy never in my life have I paid 95$ for a nostril piercing.
