My wife and I just returned home from a fun weekend escape to Helen. This was our first time at the Black Forrest B&B and we loved our stay! The staff was fantastic and very friendly when we checked in. The owner showed us around and walked us through the grounds to make sure we knew where everything was. We stayed in one of the themed cabins at the top of the property. The cabin was clean, spacious and in great working order. The bed was very comfortable and we felt right at home. Breakfast was prepared fresh every morning and featured some great local foods. This little bed and breakfast is within walking distance to most everything in Helen. As soon as we pulled in, it was extremely dirty and not kept on the outside. Check-in was dirty, garbage spilling over trash can, messy room to walk thru to kitchen. Outdated and unprofessional. Room doors open to the outside - NOT a B&B as advertised. Room was extremely outdated with vanity doors falling off. We cannot believe this is rated that high. We would not recommend staying there with a safety risk, and filthy environment. read more

This BnB's basic queen room with fireplace and whirlpool was the same price, within pennies, as the Surestay at the other end of downtown's suite with fireplace, whirlpool, and balcony. We originally just decided to book at the motel because their indoor pool outweighed the full breakfast served here for us. Unfortunately, the Surestay room wasn't made up, the receptionist wouldn't do anything to fix the situation, and was disrespectful, so we got the transaction voided and we called our second choice - the Black Forest, and asked if they had vacancies - I knew I didn't even have to question the room amenities ALL rooms have a fireplace and whirlpool. All he asked was if we could walk upstairs - he was NOT kidding! The website says 4 flights of stairs to the Tropical Honeymoon Cottage, and it really is 50 steps and landings to get up to! The host was welcoming, offered us snacks and drinks, told us about restaurants and things to see in the area, and let us know we could come down at 8am for coffee, or anytime between 8:30am-10am for a full breakfast, and then pointed us up to our "cottage". I believe the cottages are "single" buildings on the side of the mountain, sitting directly on top of the other rooms. I liked the location of our cottage - at the very end, so no one was walking by our room to get to the stairs, as we had to walk by 3 rooms to get to ours. Our bathroom smelled when we got in - I saw a bag for drying stuff out in the closet, so I'm assuming they have damp issues, but the room was clean. It's a great location, across from the general store, and a block from the bakery, and has free parking. Breakfast was filling. The room was clean, and had scented salts for the tub. The fireplace is electric, and the heater worked well as it snowed while we were there! I appreciate that it's a family owned and run business. Even if I don't agree with their politics or religion-based opinions, we will be forever grateful that they saved our weekend, so we'd consider staying again. read more

I called and made a reservation on 10/28/2024 for 12/23-12/26 and I received a confirmation to my email. We arrived early on 12/23 and was told check in was at 2pm and to go wander the town and check back in at 2pm. We checked back in and were told that our reservation wasn't until 12/25. I told the lady that's not what the confirmation stated that she sent me and that I had proof of. They couldn't figure out how they messed up our reservations. I was told they couldn't figure it out but could you give us a room for one night, but we would have to move to another room the next couple nights, and that I could not have the room that was had originally booked. I was totally disappointed and worried that it was Christmas week and we now had no reservations. We very fortunately found other accommodations that worked out better for us, and right in the middle of town. I think the owner needs to figure out what went wrong with his scheduling team, so that others do not have to panic and go through what we went through. We were called and offered breakfast at the Bed and Breakfast as compensation, but food was not what we needed. We needed the room that we had booked and to not be displaced on Christmas. read more

Went here for my honeymoon, was so adorable! You can walk anywhere in downtown Helen from here, and the owner is extremely considerate. Since he cooks the breakfast, we called and told him that we had a dairy allergy, and he made an entirely separate breakfast just for me and my husband. The two-person hot tub is awesome, and the view is beautiful. I did have some weird leaking in the corner but we told the owner and he attended to it right away, and everything else was just so great. The fireplace, all the little quaint decorations...I would definitely come here again. read more

After looking at the photos on the website, we booked 3 nights. When we arrived we immediately noticed that the building was really run down. There was a lot of junk around the property, and parking area, including a broken down golf cart, ladders, old buckets, and trash. The room was tiny, rundown, and dirty. The fridge, microwave, and coffee maker were in the closet, so that could not be used, and the A/C didn't work right. Unfortunately we arrived too late to get a room elsewhere. We did stay the first night, but slept in our clothes on top of the bed with our own pillows. When we tried to check out the next morning, no one would come to the desk. We rang the bell multiple times, and called out but no one arrived. We left the key and went on our way. We were charged the full cost for the 3 nights, even though we only stayed for one, and there has been no offer of a refund. This might have been a nice place at one time, but now it is need of some serious clean up, and repairs. read more

I do not understand how this place gets any kind of positive review at all. It is a dump. Everything is old, falling in, moldy, musty and just plain gross. My wife ended up getting sick from the conditions. I think these positive reviews must be false, there is no way the advertisements and the ratings match with this place. My husband and I booked a spur of the moment 2 night stay in one of the honeymoon cabins to celebrate our anniversary. Being an avid "review reader", I know the truth is usually somewhere amongst the best and worst of the ratings. We specifically chose a cabin to be seperated from the main house. But all of these rooms including the cabins have their own entrances away from the main house. If we stay here again, we will most likely opt out of the 5 stories of stairs leading up to the cabins which are on the top levels. The bathroom could use to be updated in general, along with the towels. These are the only negatives I have about this B&B. Otherwise, the cabin we stayed in is charming and met all of our needs. The mattresses have recently been replaced and were very comfortable to us. The property was well kept & could not be better located to downtown Helen shops and resturants. We did not partake in breakfast during our stay but chose to sleep in and have brunch/lunch out, but Terry was very friendly and did everything to make us feel welcome and at home. read more

The quaint intimacy of a B&B is not our first choice when planning a night away from home. We prefer the privacy of an anonymous large hotel or a remote cabin. The Black Forest B&B was a good compromise. Although they have standard B&B rooms within the main building, we chose to stay in a private cabin, located amongst a grouping of 5 closely located stand alone cabins at the top of 4 flights of steps. (I counted 53 stairs.) The location of this B&B is on the north end of Main street- across the street from Betty's Grocery Store. It was a little tricky to find, just look for the unassuming white house on the top of the hill. The staff greeted us with warmth and was helpful in suggesting dining options. We were shown to our cabin at the top of hill and instructed on the amenities- the jetted tub for two and the fireplace. The rooms are "themed." Not my usual decor choice, but in keeping with the over-the-top faux Bavaria that is Helen, it was all fine. Our room was the Alpine Mountain cabin. The murals, which I found myself examining often, were actually well done. The cabin was clean. We had a mini-fridge, loveseat and a small table for two- really all you need to kick back and relax. The highlight of the room was the lovely wood king-size sleigh bed. The bedding was super-soft and very comfortable. The semi-shared deck outside the front door was a great place to sit and enjoy the sunset over the mountains with a glass of wine. The sound of traffic on Main Street below- especially the rumble of the motorcycle packs that cruise these mountain roads- came to a noticeable stop just as the sun began to set. The early evening was a great time to wander the town on foot and set off in search of dinner. Breakfast was tasty and ample- fruit, juices, eggs, sausage and really nice spiced apple pancakes with a caramel syrup. We enjoyed the early morning sun while sipping our coffee in the lovely courtyard with a waterfall and lush landscaping. It was a great way to begin our day of exploring the surrounding area. We were lucky enough to secure a room for one night with a call the afternoon before. They have a two night minimum stay but were happy to waive that for us since they had availability. The Black Forest B&B is a much better choice than the less-than-stellar chain motel choices in Helen. It's a bit more expensive, but we did see the value and truly enjoyed our stay. Dear black forest b&b I just wanted too let you know how happy my heart and and sou felt while I stayed with you. A review in my mind would not do justice so instead I write you a letter of thanks. Even though there were many towns to stop at along the way during my adventure I found myself in helen ga. I followed my nose to the smell of sweet fresh cut hay and virgin river water and ended up here. A refuge in the night like a warm and welcoming hug. The staff was amazng, in fact I wouldn't even call them staff more like family. The house even seemed to say hello as the 70yr old wooden floors creaked beneath my feet as I entered the house. My room was simple (and exotic with a hear shaped tub) but clean and charming. Something I would hope to find at a grandparents house. The bed itself was something from a dream. Soft and fluffy, and like a cloud. The fire place made my stay perfect as it let off a warm glow through the night that gave just enough light to see that there was no one there when I heard footsteps at 2am. In the morning the nice gentelman at the front made me a fresh cup of joe and even started chow early for me. As I sit on the porch listening to the lovely waterfall I find myslef not wanting to depart this calm and peafecul place. There's nothing better then wet moss, waterfalls, and coffee at 6am. By far one of the most accommodating places we have been to. The people and staff are very friendly, rooms are very cozy ! The Jacuzzi tubs are very nice, clean rooms. This was by far the worst place I have ever stayed. Upon our arrival I came into the lobby to a lady that was talking out of her mind, then the welcome desk was extremely cluttered and the man running it was so unprofessional. The lobby was extremely small and very cluttered with junk. The mama's exact words to use about to weird lady was," JUST IGNORE HER BC SHE DOESN'T KNOW IF SHE IS COMING OR GOING". Lady was definitely on something. Got to our room which was up 40-plus stairs which were not listed in the details. It is very important info due to the fact if you have to carry a baby, someone in a wheelchair or baby stroller. These narrow steps would be impossible. In a motel that has several rooms, the parking is only for 7 spots. And the parking lot is so small it's hard to back out. In our room, the hot tub leaked water everywhere and the wood was mildew and slimy. Cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and ceiling fan. The waterfall in the room did not work and the water in it smelled like urine. Trash is thrown over the decks that had been there for some time. My husband was coming up the stairs and caught his ankle in the dry rotten wood that they tried to cover up with a mat. This was by far a nightmare and I will never recommend this place to anyone. For $212 for a night, definitely take your money somewhere else a lot nicer and safer. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS TRASHY PLACE!!!! read more
