One of the original bars on Church Street. I go on Sunday nights for Retro Night because I love 80's music. The bar is very masculine, which I like. The decor is suggestive and exhilarating. The staff are friendly and sexy. The guys on Sunday nights are like minded so it's easy to enjoy myself. From my experience, Sunday nights tend to be slightly older and fairly masculine. You don't see many guys using two hands to sip their cocktail through a straw. Most guys are gripping a beer. If there was a way for the dance floor to be a little bigger that would be great but they have done very well as one of the ONLY places to dance on Church Street. The DJ's are fun, especially DJ Dwayne! The pisser has little face sized windows to peer through as you drain and look out at guys walking to and from the dance floor....such a cool idea! The upstairs is a great place to cool off or heat up depending on the weather and what you are looking for. The patio/deck is nice and large with interesting sections to congregate. Summer Sundays offer a BBQ if you are patient and hungry. This place has a lot to offer to a lot of different types of people. I've never had a bad time there. read more

This is a great neighborhood leather bar. Great dance music on the evening we went with no dress code. The bar tenders on both floors were friendly. The door staff was great! Spent a lot of time on the dance floor to disco through 90s euro dance hits. Fun environment and looking forward to going back! read more

I went there last night," saturday Pride " "didn't know I need to bring ID. always come there and they never asked me my ID. spent long time line up, it is ok rules and law should be followed, I went back home and came back, I line up again as a normal person and I saw one old white guy who was outside. He had the stamp outside and stamped the people who he knew he passed them in front All the people lined up and without pay inside. the guy inside was draw with mark in people. Probably he know and agreed with that because if you have your job and you don't have your material something is wrong and he saw people come in with stamped" maybe they are doing something illegal or just been unfair with customer. The Black Eagle is Toronto's leading gay leather bar. It has two floors, the interior décor is sort of industrial in good keeping with what a gay leather bar should look like. The bartenders are efficient, helpful and friendly as is the crowd. Unlike many gay leather bars, this one is a good one to go to wearing your colors especially if you happen to belong to a major organization such as Delta, Chicago Hellfire or one that that has some sort of brotherhood relationship with local Toronto leather or MC clubs such as the Spearheads. Instead of the patrons being intimidated by your wearing of colors, I've found it to be an icebreaker of sort leading to friendly conversation and general acceptance by the locals. To them, they take it as a sign that even though you may be a stranger, you're one of them and you know what you you're doing. The Black Eagle is known for having varying theme nights such as Pup Night, Naked Night, Kink 101 demo nights, even Rocky Horror Picture Show nights. On week days it can be duller than a country cemetery but on Friday and Saturday nights comes alive. Though certainly not one of the better gay leather bars I've been to, overall not bad and since it seems to actually be the only one in the gayborhood, Three Stars. read more

This is the spot if you are a gay bear, into leather or just like it rough. it's a nice alternative to the youth-driven, dance-vibe gay bars on Church street. It's a dark little hole of a place upstairs on Church, but the bartenders are friendly and the vibe is welcoming if you're art of the group. I am the only woman who is ever at the joint when I go, and it's usually with my one friend who goes for drinks and picks up passes to the bath house, Steam Works, across the street when they are doing a promo for it. It smells like sweaty men inside, kinda like a locker room, but you know what? That's exactly why some of my friends love it. if you're a bear from out of town, this is definitely a great place to start. from here, you can get the dish on all the good bear parties in town. read more

The Black Eagle is a resurrection story of a kind, a phoenix if you'd like, rising from the ashes of a somewhat dumpy bar before. Generally, it is rare to find a leather/daddy bar that looks inviting for everyone and does not look like a dump. Well, that is what the Black Eagle is: super inviting, everyone is friendly, and it actually is a great space. During the week, on 'regular' nights, it may not be quite the most buzzing of places, but when they have themed parties, it is just a great time almost always. Jockstrap, Sin, Trade, Pup Night, etc., you name it. They also used to show RuPaul's Drag Race there and that brought in a whole new crowd of people in there, which was a nice addition. I really feel as the Black Eagle has become a much more representative and accepting place than most in the Gay Village in Toronto and I do hope they continue doing the great work they are in ensuring there is diversity in the type of events they offer! read more

Went here Sunday night while in Toronto for the weekend. Had no idea it was retro night. The DJ was fantastic. We had such a good time we stayed long beyond the time we had planned. I haven't had this much fun dancing since the late eighties. Thank you for making me feel young again. read more

It's the worse bar to go, rude security and you're spending so much money for drinks but because they want to let new people coming inside they're kicking you out with their own rules ... plus super depressing and dirty, and the dance floor is just a room so after a while you can't dance because you can't breath ... wasting time and money read more

I had a great experience at the Black Eagle while I was visiting Toronto. I went on a Tuesday night and made some friends right away, striking up a conversation with some locals sitting at the bar and with the bartender as well. There's a small area up front with the bar (full bar and draft beer), a small landing up the stairs, and then a "play area" in the back. By the time 11:00 rolled around, the back area was filled up with horny bears and leather dudes. read more

Real people, minimal attitude, and fantastic patio and barbecue during the summers. Generally the leather, bear, daddy, athletic crowd with few Twinks, and for the most part zero woman. Parties are usually as advertised and it makes sense to go early if you don't want to lineup. If you like it dirty and nasty go to "SIN". Looking to get naked and have a cocktail? Go on Naked Night! Hi was in town on business and a friend of mine said if I was in town I owed it to myself to go to Naked Night. So I placed an add on craigslist asking for info and got some replies like you would expect. Then sent email to the club asking about times and protocols. The club emailed back and told me what to expect and assure the club goers where respectful and of all types and that after 10pm the main floor was Naked only and the second floor was Naked optional. The Sunday retro sucks. the music is so commercial, I would rather listen to the radio proud 103 FM that plays better retro songs. The dj plays the same songs every Sunday, nothing exciting to hear and dance to, the club must improve the Sunday retro. read more

I went here for a few hours to meet up with a friend from out of town that's into the gay bear scene. I don't usually consider myself a scene person and I rarely hang out in the village but I must say I had a good time. I was worried the place would be scary or packed or have a $20 cover. All fears were quickly put to rest. The staff were super friendly. There were quite a few people but you could easily move around, not like the places I go on College or Ossington. The customers seemed friendly enough. I had a couple of pints at $6.25 each. Not bad for being downtown. Mind you I didn't explore the darker corners of the place, but all in all it was a good time. DO NOT DRINK THE DRAFT BEER. We were visiting over pride and went in the Monday after for some drinks. I ordered a pitcher of draft beer and drank it. Within four hours I was vomiting and not able to leave the bathroom for four days. The draft beer was the only thing that day my partner and I didn't share so it had to have been the draft beer. read more

I don't think I go too often (3 or 4 times a month probably) but some of the bartenders know my 'regular' drink and sometimes assume I want it and have it ready by the time I get to the bar to order. The dancefloor is nice and spacious as is the outdoor patio upstairs. And of course the dark area/play area upstairs is nice to have. read more

I'm from NY, and have visited gay bars in many states in the USA. There is NOTHING in the US that even comes close to the Black Eagle in Toronto. Puritanical bible-thumping Americans would be up in arms. They prefer to have illicit sex in airport stalls while they protest gay rights. Hypocrisy. Not all, but many--mostly republicans. Anyway, back to the Black Eagle. Naked Night was tonight. If you choose to go, you get naked, and socialize. If you are feeling sexual, you go in the back and some very hot encounters can happen. Americans are great at shameless self-promoting propaganda. Get out of the USA for a trip, see how Canada does it better! They even have health coverage for everyone. Granted it isn't perfect, but compared to the apocalyptic state of US healthcare, Canada's healthcare system looks like a gold standard. And Toronto's economy puts that of any US city to shame.
