An absolutely incredible experience! Jared was a phenomenal guide, so knowledgeable and funny, and the formations themselves were gorgeous. Recommending this to everyone I know.

Amazing tour! So worth seeing! From beginning to end. Kid friendly. Everyone in the shop seems laid back. We enjoyed every moment. Our tour guide was awesome! He grew up in the area! He seemed very enthusiastic, and he knew a lot of French history about the cave and science. We would definitely come back!

Well worth the price of the tour to see an amazing vertical cave. Guides do a nice job of capturing the finer points of the natural wonder.

I enjoyed my visit here. Its not far from Jackson rancheria casino. We had a great guide who explained all about the cavern. It's a nice place to cool off in the summer. Its not ambulatory friendly and has a narrow staircase. Its a tight squeeze but not too uncomfortable. It's a cool sight to see. Make a day of it and research other attractions in the area. Have a picnic or try your luck gambling nearby.

We did a great cave tour with Mike, or was it Bob? He was very engaging and funny as he led our group through the cave. We learned a lot and it was fun to see the different formations. It wasn't too hard to walk down the stairs.

It's an awesome cavern with a great tour guide! It's about an hour long and very humorous! The cave is extremely pretty inside with lots of stalagmites and stalactites. There's also really rare cave formations that exist in only a handful of caves WORLDWIDE. Definitely worth the trip! I got a speeding ticket there cause the drive was so fun! (But watch out)

What a great way to spend a rainy day!! The cavern was dry and our tour guide was very informative & entertaining. Definitely recommend it!!

Very cool educational opportunity to learn about the Black Chasm Cavern. Our guide Jason was super friendly, very knowledgeable and entertaining. It is important to be careful going in. It is a vertical cave so you go down stairs some are steep. Not an issue going down but definitely can wind you coming back up. If you like exploring, learning a bit about geology and history and want to see some cool crystal formations this is for you. There are restrooms on-site at check in. No food, water, selfie sticks or backpacks in the cave.

Very cool and fun way to spend a Saturday morning. Took my daughter here for the tour and we really enjoyed it. Brian was our tour guide and was awesome. You could tell he really enjoyed doing this and was funny and informative. 10/10 recommend! Side note: Don't lick the walls lol. Also recommend stopping in at Sizemore's down the road for a great burger or sandwich on the way out.

Beautiful & Informative! I enjoyed every bit of the tour, especially with our guy Brian or Bryan. Very educational and humorous. Would recommend! :D

Our tour guide Mike had a lot of history to share about the caverns and the town itself. You go down to 85 feet about 130 stairs each way. It was a great experience!

Took the kids on a day trip and they did the panning for stones. They had a great time there and we loved everything and the cute store. I like that the store had cheap and expensive items, staff was very knowledgeable. Only thing I wish is maybe more things for kids exploration so that people want to go back more than once.

Added to our short trip to Sacramento area, we loved the Black Chasm Cavern. The natural formations were unique and beautiful. Our tour guide was informative and had a dry sense of humor we enjoyed (Gabriel, thanks!). Show up 20 min early to check in after making reservations online. We were late but thankfully they were able to accommodate us. Well worth the drive to Volcano, Ca. It's a "must see".

Jojo was awesome. The tour of the caves were awsome. We got pretty dirty climbing and crawling on the Mammouth cave expedition.

Pets are not allowed in the cavern for safety reasons.

How hard or steep are the stairs? Will an elderly and like a 2 year old manage the climbing part?

Well you can take your own pace, for the most part. However, the stairs are steep and narrow at times, you have to duck etc. This is not like commercial stairs. There are several hundred steps and it's dark, and you have to hold and carefully… Read more

We were the only ones that signed up for the earliest tour that day and were lucky to have a private tour. The tour has informative history about the caverns with landmarks along the way. The most interesting thing we didn't know about is they have caving adventure tours where you shimny through holes and narrow spaces with a guide but our kids aren't old enough to partake. This was the first show cave in California and townspeople lived in them during harsh winters in the 1800s. There was a bar inside and a church and nails were even given to people to carve on the walls. Because of this there are signs of harm everywhere with soot, broken formations, and dirty coloration from human hand oils and even champagne poured on a rock formation. The caverns are huge and beautiful with some jaw-dropoing rooms. The walking tour is very safe though we loved the slight danger and claustrophobic feel of the Mercer Caverns. When you leave the shop has some cool historical items pulled from the caves on display like glass bottles, etc .. that are worth checking out.

High class service? Jazz band playing in every train car with speakers interconnected? We came expecting nothing and ended up having an incredible experience with beautiful decorations well suited for a sweet, memorable Christmas train experience. Online reservations were simple, easy to obtain, and a lot more affordable compared to the exorbant Polar Express tickets. We're extremely happy that we chose this over Sacramento's Polar Express. It's obvious that their staff spent a lot of time putting work into the trains inner and outter decor - beautiful and creative! Parents and adults FYI - on your way to your reserved train car, there's a small bar after boarding the train. It's very important to load up on your magic drinks before heading to your seat. (Drinks.. not drink! But drink responsibly, of course.) Parking isn't far and although limited, it shouldn't be a problem with reservations handled appropriately. We sang a few Christmas songs with the elves, threw snowballs at the grinch (best part, IMO), met Santa, and had a little fun at Santa's (little) village after the ride. Every sip of their hot cocoa (included with your tickets) was warming and delicious, perfect for cold weather. Couple of cookies came along with it, perfect for our kids to snack on. Overall, this was an incredible experience for our kids! Service was fantastic, ambiance was very jolly and felt like home, staff members are very friendly, and the experience is fantastic for all occasions - family, friends, and dates! The memories are ever lasting and hopefully it becomes a core memory that lasts a lifetime. Highly recommended to experience, at least once, for your little loved ones. We'll be back next year!

I was trying to…read moreplan a girls day out, and definitely wanted to do some wine tasting but didn't really want to be a Designated driver. I found Courtwood by searching online, and I'm SO happy I found Chris @Courtwood! I was a little bummed I didn't find any available tours on their website, so I reached out via email. Chris promptly sent a reply with pricing, details, and that it would be quite packed in Murphy's, so she would take us on a private tour around the outlying wineries (good call, none of the wineries were too packed and we had a lot of "private time" at each vineyard). Chris picked us up right out front of our hotel right on time, had a smile and made sure she knew who the bride was and made her feel extra special! We stopped at Twisted Oak, Chatom, Ironstone (for lunch), and Aryael Vieux (TOP FAVE!! I'll be reviewing these wineries soon). Chris took care of everything, all we had to worry about was sipping wine and having a wonderful and relaxing time. Hanging out with Chris was like having another friend just along for the ride! We picked up a loaf of fresh bread at one of the wineries, and mentioned that we wanted to get some butter later on, Chris told us she needed to pick something up too and that we could come with her! I can't say enough good things, they even include a slideshow of your trip (chris takes photos throughout the tour) and email it to you promptly after your tour. If you are in the area, I would definitely come here and take a tour with Courtwood,

We stayed in Angel's Camp in a friend's cabin, and being unfamiliar with the area, I completely put my trust in Chris to arrange everything for us. She exceeded my expectations (and made me look like I had done a lot more than I had!) She asked a lot of questions about our group and the types of wines we liked so that she could tailor the tour very specifically. Preferring the boutique wineries to the large scale Ironstone types, Chris took us to six different wineries that ranged significantly from Twisted Oak, to Prospect 772, to Aerial Vieux. As a large group Chris coordinated with Kristen, who also leads tours in the area to caravan us around in their large air conditioned vans. It seemed like she had personal relationships with the various winemakers and their staff and was able to get us some kind of behind the scenes cave tour/vineyard tour/private tasting room access everywhere we went. I have to say the best thing about the day was the lunch. Chris set it up on a long table outside Chatom winery and it literally looked like something straight out of Sunset Magazine. She brought local cheese and interesting dips, and the salads were presented in ball mason jars. It really was so well done, I think Chris might have a future in putting on lunches in addition to taking tours! After the tasting, Chris and Kristen took us into Murphy's, waited for us while we had dinner, and then took us all the way back to Angels Camp. I highly recommend Courtwood for small and large tours alike. Chris was just wonderful!

For some background, my husband was the only one who had ever done it so my kiddo and I were newbies. Along with another kiddo and adult, we rafted through class 1-3 rapids and I never felt that we were not safe (despite me being the weakest swimmer in the family). Alec was truly a guide in every sense of the word. He prepped us before taking on the rapids - gave us the route we would take, what to expect in terms of how we were to paddle and what we had to do. We played some fun boat games and spent some time floating in the river which my husband and son loved. Also included were the always fun brain teaser riddles that had all of us entertained during the floating portions of our trip. If you have ever thought about trying white water rafting, do it - you won't regret it! It's truly an experience and a great time in nature with the family.
