Beautiful site overlooking the lake. Love the oak trees! Watch those low hanging branches.
    Michele O.

We camped here for a week in early March, and had almost the entire campground to ourselves. There are actually two separate campgrounds at Pardee Recreation Area. The one near the Marina (Lake View Campground) was very busy, and quite full; having both an RV Park section and a campsite section. They have seasonal rates in the RV Park section for long-term rentals, with hook ups included. A few sites in the campsite section had hookups, but most sites did not. The Marina has a store, and boat rentals, too. We stayed in the Oaks Campground, which has green manicured lawns and beautiful oak trees everywhere. There are no hookups, but the are some very large sites with a table and fire ring. The staff need to do some tree trimming, though. We have a tall RV, and some sites have low hanging branches, so beware. Our stay was very peaceful and relaxed. Husband fished every day (no luck, unfortunately, but he had fun). No one seemed to be catching much despite the recent fish plants; some were saying the water was still too cold. Our site was $25.00 per night, with a $10.50 reservation fee, which seems reasonable; but then there are all the other fees. $5.00 a day for the kayak, and $7.50 a day to fish. Also, $5.00 per dog per day. So there are a lot of little fees that add up very quickly. The fishing fee, though, goes 100% to stock the lake. This is a very beautiful area, and there is a lovely trail that goes along the shoreline. I don't think I would stay here during the summer, however, just because of the heat. IMPORTANT TO KNOW: no bodily contact allowed with the lake. (There are two swimming pools that open during summer.)

I had occasion to visit the recreation area this morning, in order to obtain a hiking permit. The young lady working at the booth was extremely helpful in helping me get my hiking permit. Fisherman come very early to this location. The employee stated that the fishermen are coming in at 5 am! She also explained where the restrooms were located. If you're not familiar with Pardee lake, you are in for a real treat. This is one of the most beautiful lakes in California. The lake is also the water supply for much of the East Bay. Besides the Pardee Recreation Area, there is a set of trails called the Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail. That's the trail for which you will need a hiking permit.

This place is perfect for fishing . The sites are a really nice size. The lady's at the front really nice. There is a two pools for water fun with an enormous tree that is go gorgeous and shade giving. I would definitely come again. Bathroom are nice and plenty around l. Showers 8am-10pm 3 stalls .. laundry area. Super nice. We just so happen to go when they have a little hosted tiernamente.. party of 6 and we they loved it . Also there is a Cafe so if you don't feel like cooking it's perfect. No swimming in the Lake. Only in the pool.

Arid, bleak camping. Dead grass painful for doggies, foot-sized gopher holes everywhere, and vultures waiting for us to die from heatstroke

Review Title: What a HUGE, colossal RACKET this place is running. Gosh, where do I begin with this review.. Our group of ten reserved two camping sites in the Oaks area from Weds-Sunday. Cost up front for the reservation: 260$. Two days later, Friday morning, 2 more cars joined, taking the total amount of cars from 2 to 5. Friday night comes around, and one more car joins, and is also charged as well, plus for their dog, when we weren't charged for our dogs, merely the two adults in the car and the nights we were staying. Now, each site has two cars per, in the cost for renting each site. SO, when all three cars were charged 20$ each to park, and our two female friends were also charged for things we all were not charged for, something was fishy. I'm hedging my bets on this place being run by closed-minded folk, honestly.. Since we are in for ... 320$ now?, I'm looking around for something that makes this spot worth that amount of dough, since we can't swim there at all (it's a week before the pool opens... btw, that pool should be heated and available year round for these prices...) -- steaming hot biffy toilets without a sink to wash your hands in (again, the Ritz-Carlton prices we paid, plus the fact that it's a reservoir campground, you'd think a sink would be included... nope) so -- no swimming, and the shade is just non existent, so if if you don't have an Easy-Up, it is going to be torture.) Let's get to last night: 10:40PM, we are all winding down because we have had it and want to leave early) a huge diesel truck rolls in, high-beams on, through camp.. which is whatever, the site is literally right next to the road (yucky unto itself), and slows down real creepy-like. Then, this monster truck rolls around the loop and drives down the hill looking at the sites, the the beams aimed right at our faces, for at least 5 minutes while they were being schmucks. This group of campers finally settled on a spot directly across from us, and proceeded to "WOOOO!" and cackle into the night while playing loud music. Like, I got maybe 2 hours of sleep due to these jackasses, who are probably still camped out there now.. I could tell they'd recently mowed, and we saw the guy pumping the biffy in 100 degree heat. That is really about it for the "positives" of this place. In summary: These guys inaccurately charge customers, it's possible the persons at the window pockets the cash maybe?; the sites were WAAAY too expensive; the grounds offer too little; no actual security to keep people from coming into the campground at 10:40pm, possible anti-gay (no purple roof here!) and no noise control, at all. Hell, even the ground was painful, I'm used to the freezing hard ground of the Sierras, this was just full of deep gopher holes everywhere that claimed my ankle a few times. Haven't done the RV camping, won't. Will not be coming back, this was probably the worst camping trip I've ever been on. We caught one fish. That was the only good thing.

Site 210 - Has a similar view of the lake that Site 211 has. Small site overall. Lots of squirrel holes & limited shade.

Stayed at Site 209 on the 4th of July weekend in 2015. Reserved a site about a month before visiting. Once I got to the campgrounds I was not completely happy with the site I had reserved. The staff was very friendly and nice about letting me pick a new site with no hassle at all. The Lake View Campground is the side of the campsite when you first enter the grounds. This area is closer to the pool, general store, marina, is generally more shaded and closer to one of the only flush-able toilets. If you have kids that want to use the pool this is definitely the side you want to stay on. If you might be the less prepared camper that might need a couple runs to the general store this is the side for you. If you can not handle not having shade, this is the side for you. The Oaks Campground is a small drive over the hill once you enter the grounds. This area is not within walking distance of the pool, general store or marina. This area of the grounds is in general a little less shaded by trees. There are no flush-able toilets on this side with everything being a port a potty. If you would like a little more secluded area and might be a little more experienced camper, this is more likely your side. More shade is needed throughout the campground, which it looks like they have started to plant some of the Lake View Campground side. More planting are definitely needed on the Oaks Campground side. Some strategic brush could be cut down to give better views of the lake throughout the campsite. With some work a couple of sites with lake view could possible be created too. A flush-able toilet on the Oaks Campground side would be nice and could take some of the use off of the port a potty's. There were a number of squirrel/rodent holes that would effect a number of campsites and pitching tents. Would be nice if they could tackle this problem to some degree. Ants were also somewhat prolific and could put a large damper on someones party if they ended up in the wrong spot. Good stay overall.

The first come first serve sites were almost all empty Sunday-Wednesday mid July when I visited. The creek is beautiful and there are lots of good swimming spots. We stayed with friends in a group site and several single nearby sites. There was plenty of space and fallen trees and meadows for our kids to explore! The bad: Idk why but checkout and checkin are both at 2pm, so the sites aren't being cleaned fully between uses. There was a bit of trash at ours and we almost overlapped with the group there before us. The dumpsters were full the entire time we were there. So many yellow jackets and mosquitos, but that's summer in California near the water for you. The worst, there were several bears that made the rounds scavenging every night. We heard them sniffing around tents, banging around coolers, and people generally letting off foghorns and screaming and dogs barking all night long. The campsite is not equipped for bears. The hosts are doing their best, but this is their first summer with this problem, and they aren't receiving support from fish and wildlife. There are no bear boxes at the campsites and very little signage anywhere alerting people to store all their containers and food out of reach at night. People are also not helping. We talked to one family with their food out and said to pack it up as there were bears out the night before. They said they had been coming to the campground for years and never seen a bear. They didn't pack up their food at night and the bears got it all, and they had to leave the next day. The stupidity was astounding. Overall, I would recommend it except for the bears! Hopefully the government steps up to give the host more support before something serious happens!

We could probably have gone over there and made meals, but it was a bit awkward because they literally were taking up all the space. We enjoyed ourselves and we like that we could all of our food outside and everything was so close together. We really love that the kids could just go and play at the playground and it was super close. Everything is just very close to each other. It was a really wonderful weekend and also this place doesn't seem to have any insect or bugs. Even though they mentioned that it was tarantula mating season when we came, we didn't see any tarantulas or any bugs in the Cabins, which is a good thing cause I'm terrified of tarantulas. I definitely would come back and looking forward to our next trip here.

Our family stays here annually in October for their Halloween celebrations. We could reserve for the following year during the weekend that we were at the park. However now it seems to be more un organized in that respect. It seems you can now reserve two and three years out making it more difficult for a long-time loyal visitors like us. This last stay we smelled sewage all weekend. I'm not sure if it was the restrooms that we were near or if it was a site emitting the smell. You can pay extra to lock in your site, although we found out that does not guarantee you your location.. In October of 2024 a relative staying for the very first time with their children reserved a cabin with an upper loft. The kids love the upper lofts. However, when they checked in, they discovered they had been moved. Pretty much tucked away and not in the middle of the great Halloween decoration and celebrations that they had planned for. So a year of planning the decorations for that Halloween weekend we're pretty much useless. And the kids did not get their loft as the cabin they removed to was not the same. The dishwasher did not work, there was a sign on it saying do not use, so they knew about it. Instead of sleeping six, it slept four. And the pull-out couch was old and very uncomfortable. That move was blamed on their renovations as the manager now lived in the cabin that they locked in. Not acceptable . It was discovered that they provided a partial refund of that lock-in fee. Their new payment system doesn't show the customer's the history of payments or charges. So she had no idea what they were doing to her account and neither did the office. It was discovered they made an error and needed to refund the full lock-in fee. What's the point of the lock in, right? Also for the poor location of the new cabin, there should have been some kind of compensation. Our new guests were not impressed, and we were embarrassed at how much we boasted about it. Additionally there are have been the replacement of some wonderful sites by permanent residents. There are a lot more permanent residents and not all are tidy, making for eyesores. Since COVID, out of state workers are staying there long term. Not a bad thing except they go to work at around 4:45ish and idle their diesel trucks before leaving the park. Pretty irritating when you're there for a vacation and you're awakened that early by idling trucks. My now adult children have great memories coming to this place every year for Halloween. However the changes have made it a place that I have chosen to no longer visit.

Even though there are a lot of families and a lot of kids riding around on their bikes and scooters, the park is surprisingly quiet. This might be due to some of the full-time residents but all of their sites are also very clean and nicely well kept up (one could use some serious improvements though). 4. Everyone is very friendly, including staff.5. The little store and Cafe is perfect for a last-minute gift, grocery item or ice cream! So happy to have this place so close by to get away for a small retreat! I do think there could be a big improvement on their WiFi, it didn't work all weekend even for checking email. If that wasn't enough 2 play structures AND a designated dog park and of course lots and lots of grass to relax under the trees. The bathroom facilities we're ok, with toilet paper available. ps. Make sure to tour the small surrounding towns to grab a bite to eat and help the small local shops survive during these trying times.

There's a horse arena...a really big one with stands for the audience, plenty of places to explore and trail walk, lots of local wild flowers in bloom (watch out we did find a few patches of poison oak-"leaves of 3, let it be")! There's a lovely picnic area, many playgrounds for the kids, a baseball diamond and much more. We were fortunate enough to have our camp cooks on site for a remarkably good lunch with entrees consisting of a sun dried tomato pasta, bbq chicken with a ricotta cheese topping, pulled pork sandwiches, slaw, and a baby greens salad with cherry tomatoes; dessert cookies that were "out of this world" (smores-oatmeal and raisin & chocolate chip) Camp folks really know how to put on a good spread. Host your next event in Ione if you need lots of space, need to accommodate lots of people and would like a beautiful and nature filled venue!

I was on a summer weekend drive around Calaveras County. We were near New Hogan Lake. It's off…read moreRoute 12, 26, and 49. So I had a bright idea to drive by and visit the lake to check it out. I e never been before. On hindsight, probably a hot valley summer day is not the best time for my first ever visit, especially for an impromptu one. We drove to the Lake overlook. The overlook parking lot had lots of spots. It's right next to the park headquarters office, There is no fee to view the overlook, use the children's play area, walk the nearby trails, or access the shoreline by foot. There is a picnic pavilion but not sure if it's first come, first serve or by reservation. The website has no info about that. The overlook did have some big beautiful stately trees, that gave off smoke shade where some benches were placed. The overlook looked down onto the lake and valley. Spectacular views. There are some trails leading to the lake and surrounding areas. The trails have no shade. The shoreline has minimal shade as well. The shoreline is jagged rocky not soft sand. And did I mention it's HOT in the summer. Mentioning it again because it's worth mentioning. Was it worth driving specifically to look at this overlook? Probably not. But if you happen to be in the area, why not. Another thing that caught my eye was the overlook's large wood sign with carved lettering. The sign provided info and history. But since the sign is painted all in one color, the letters were not easily visible. It was difficult to see the lettering to read the sign. Possibly they have not gotten around to painting the letters, and it's not intentional to be left like that. Painting the engraved words in a contrasting color would make those letters pop. New Hogan Lake was created in 1964 with the completion of the New Hogan Dam. The lake contains 50 miles of shoreline.
