Their Detroit-style pizza is THICK, crispy, cheesy perfection. We ordered the Pepperoni & Spicy Honey and the Pig & Fig pizza, and honestly, I'm still emotionally attached to both. The spicy honey situation should probably be studied by scientists. Sweet, spicy, crispy pepperoni edges... absolutely dangerous. And the Pig & Fig somehow made figs belong on pizza without causing an international incident. Service was awesome too -- friendly, fast, and somehow patient while we stared at the menu pretending we weren't already ordering too much food. But you know what's real plot twist? The leftovers were AMAZING the next day after reheating. Most leftover pizza tastes like regret. This tasted like a reward. Bro. This spot is FIRE. I was out thrifting with my mom and we wanted to get a little lunch. Yelp helped me find Black Cat just a stone's throw from where we were at. Not easy to see it from the street and the "PIZZA" in the name is dark so you GOT. TO. KNOW. I really liked EVERY thing about our visit. The dining room is cool. Fresh flowers on the tables. Funny black cat art on the walls. The kitchen is viewable which is always a plus to me. The staff was super nice and the owner was really cool to chat with. I was totally digging the music as well. I am so disappointed that I wasted a vacation dinner on the place. I spent $60 +/- on pizza delivered by DoorDash. Specially, I ordered a mushroom pizza and ranch sauce. What did I receive? A burnt pizza and no sauce. And when I say burnt, I meant burnt. This hockey puck should have been thrown away and remade. It is insulting that the staff let it leave the restaurant. I just got back from New York and this pizza tops the few that I tried. Arguably, it's a different style of pizza, since it's Detroit-style but it's memorable nonetheless. The crust on both were extra crispy from the cheese edges and didn't taste burnt. We tried the spicy capicollo, per the waiter's recommendation, and the sausage and roasted fennel, per the chef's recommendation. Both were delicious and I'd get them again, although the former wasn't spicy at all. We also ordered a Caesar salad as an app, and although it was good in terms of flavor, it was a bit too salty. The croutons were impeccable though. The service was great and we felt very welcomed. The restaurant gave off a home-y feel and it wasn't that busy on a Friday at noon so we ate a leisurely pace. Came here for a quick lunch after shopping and was surprisingly impressed. I have always been a fan of thin crust pizza and never tried Detroit Style pizza but I am a huge fan now. We were immediately greeted and was able to choose where to sit. They had ample seating inside and outdoors. We chose the Spicy Capicollo pizza and was able to enjoy and finish every bite. Okay where do I begin. This pizza spot opened a year and a half ago and I've always had it bookmarked but never had the chance until last night for my sister's birthday. There's 80s-90s commercials silently on the flat screen while Bonita Applebaum plays in the background. Michael was our waiter for the evening. From start to finish, he was amazing. He left an impression on us the rest of the night. We started off with their roasted brussel sprouts. That appetizer had the perfect amount of crisp, not overly done and was covered in this delectable balsamic vinaigrette sauce. It gets better. Our waiter brought out his recommended pepperoni with hot honey pizza. We ordered it gluten free and couldn't even tell. I already dream about that damn pizza. You know it's good when you wake up craving it. Their pizza is more of a Detroit style so you get that cheesy crisp crust with burnt ends. The dough was incredible without being too much dough, iykyk. Their marinara sauce was truly unbelievable. None of that fake can crap. He charges one price for all bottles which can go either way since you could get a bottle at a great price or possibly pay a little more for a just-ok bottle. No one acknowledged us for 5 minutes even though there were four employees and 4 customers, two of whom were already eating and one who was at the bar working on a laptop. The staff was very friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which were very good, though the glaze was a bit on the heavier side. The Caesar salad was great and included real anchovies--perfect for anchovy lovers. My son enjoyed the wings, though he mentioned he would have liked them a little spicier. The pizza was delicious. We had an outstanding experience at Black Cat Pizza, and it started with the service. Michael was our server and he was fantastic. Incredibly attentive without hovering, genuinely knowledgeable about the menu, and thoughtful in suggesting some of his personal favorites. He also shared great local tips on what to do around town, which made the experience feel welcoming and personal rather than transactional. We also had the opportunity to meet one of the owners, Sean, and his passion for food is immediately clear. Sean comes from a strong culinary background, having worked in several fine dining restaurants before opening Black Cat. Knowing that background, it is no surprise that the food here is so intentional and detail-oriented. You can truly feel that experience translated into a more approachable but still elevated concept. As for the food, everything we had was excellent. We started with the endive citrus salad, which was fresh, bright, and beautifully balanced. The citrus popped without overwhelming the dish, paired with just the right amount of savoriness. A simple dish executed with real care. For pizza, we could not decide, and they were kind enough to split one pie in half for us. We did half mushroom lovers and half sausage, olive, and onion. Both sides were incredible. This is Boston-style pizza, and if you have never had it before, you need to try it. It is a real treat, with the perfect amount of crust on every slice and a great balance of toppings and structure. The atmosphere is dark and moody in the best way, more cozy than goth with quirky cat art on the walls and classic jazz playing in the air. When we arrived, we were told to sit anywhere we wanted (there is a small bar with stools in addition to table seating). The place was full except for one perfect table near the rear. As our friendly server explained prior to us ordering, each pizza is a little larger than a piece of paper with delicious house made dough that's crusty and buttery on the surface and chewy as you go on, filled with cheese and any toppings you like with red sauce on top of it all. My husband and I were pleased to see roasted fennel as one of the toppings options. I had roasted fennel, olives & mushrooms, while he had roasted fennel and hot honey. Allow me to say, I chose this place because my husband loves a good deep dish pizza -- I do not. I'm not a bread person. I'm a New York style pizza girl; the thinner the crust, the happier I am. THAT SAID, the pizza here is amazing. It's not all-bread-with-scant-toppings like most deep dish. Every layer, every ingredient was fresh and flavorful. Stopped by Black Cat for the first time last night & left that place having had amazing pizza, great dessert... and so appreciative of all the people that worked there. Michael our server was great, so kind and genuine, the type of guy we will never forget! The owner Sean was awesome as well. When you leave a place knowing almost everyone's names in there I think that means something. As soon as we walked in we were acknowledged, and as soon as we got our food we could tell just how much they care about the food they serve. Every pizza I saw looked like perfection and I know these guys strive to make everything these serve the best they can. Not only that but it tasted amazing. I wish I had taken a picture of the dessert we ordered (bread pudding, berry compote w vanilla ice cream ), that was amazing as well, and just like everything else it looked beautifully presented. Sean also brought us a bonus dessert from the kitchen to try. This review is long but deserving.
