For my Cycle Oregon layover day, I went and got a massage, read my book, went swimming, got some…read morehot food for the first time all week (I'm vegan) and THEN... went to find the local animal shelter. I was the only cyclist of 2000 who did so as far as I know. I met lots of CUTE dogs, took one for a walk and picked up some poop. Met a nice very large black and white kitty, a cute kitten who was going to a new home and many many cute dogs. This shelter is completely funded by donations -- and they are a no-kill shelter. Animals aren't treated the same on the reservation as they are in other areas -- so many of their rescues come from Warm Springs and around there. The lady who runs the shelter is super nice and the place is kept very clean and tidy. I would love to visit there again!

I paid for the "happy texts" and everything seemed good. I picked my dogs up yesterday and my normally healthy/athletic lab came home emaciated with her ribs visibly protruding. Both dogs have been so stressed and not themselves but most concerning is my dog lost so much weight so fast and not one single person notified me. I've been in touch with their manager and I'm getting a lot of "we're sorry" or "I understand" but it doesn't change my dog lost so much weight in a week and nobody informed me, I paid a lot of $ for people to look after my babies and since talking about it with locals I've heard worse experiences and I'm grateful that my girl came home to me. The pic of both dogs was taken 3 weeks ago; those of just my lab were taken today.

What an amazing, beautiful, fresh breath of Oregon air! We were fortunate to attend a wedding here…read moreand were equally impressed with the wedding event and its venue/backdrop. Set among the Smith Rock State Park and monkey face rock sits this impressive ranch/development. It's a private gated community that boasts gorgeous views of Oregon's high desert combined with magnificent Tuscan style homes. The scenery here is one of a kind and it only got better as the sun began to set, colors changing and shadows enhancing the views and landscape. The wedding was held outside at "the stables", a rustic looking building with a small fountain out front and endless views of amazing, pristine natural beauty. I really enjoyed the architecture that's subtly dotted through out the community. The lot sizes are spacious and each home is so unique...no cookie cutter track homes here, lol! As if that weren't enough, there's plenty of ponds, lakes and rivers to fish... My dad pulled 14 fish in less than and hour w my kids! Needles to say they had a blast, EPIC! There's endless trails to hike in the area, both by foot or by horse. If you're looking for a wedding venue, this was an amazingly special locale. We felt blessed to be able to share such a special day with family in such a beautiful place. Props!
