We arrived here in Canton after a long 12 hour drive. We will be here for the rest of the month for vacation. Upon recommendation of our Airbnb host we decided to check this place out. We arrived at 7pm and they close at 8. It's a small diner and they have booths and tables. There are special menu boards everywhere. They have Pepsi products and iced tea both sweet and unsweetened. We got 3 different entrees, country fried steak, chopped steak and turkey and dressing. The dressing and mashed potatoes weren't the best. The chopped steak was the favorite and had great flavor, the turkey was nice turkey breast and was better with gravy. The country fried steak was obviously a frozen patty and not that good. The fried okra was good. All in all it was a good meal for 3 tired travelers. You can tell this is a big local hangout because there were several in there visiting one another. I loved that. Cobb salad was decent. The Ranch could have been better. Expected homemade from a small diner like this but definitely store bought.

Nice homestyle dinners, it's a real nice break from fast food chains, to instead enjoy delicious food and a very friendly staff.

Great diner to stop in for a bite. Phily cheese steak is excellent but the surprise was the pickled beets. Stunningly good. Never thought I'd say that about beets. Friendly service and a spotless bathroom make it a five star diner. read more

To feed myself, my wife, our daughter, and to leave a generous tip, I think I spent like $40. For filling, good, sit-down food, that's impressive. Next, let's talk about the service: friendly, fast, efficient, made me feel right at home. Then, there's the food. We love this place and have eaten here multiple times. It is our go to place in Canton. It's homey, the staff are all great. And the food is usually very good. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is last time I had the fried flounder it sure tasted like tilapia. NOT a fish that we like to eat. Try the onion rings! Simple, small town cafe in Canton. Mostly local folks, at least for workday lunch crowd when wife and I were there. Basic food, I had a Cobb salad. A few of the grilled chicken chunks were too done but the price is super affordable and it was still a very good salad. Wife had a shrimp Alfredo special of the day. They had three daily specials. No alcohol. Waitress was loaded with small town charm. Desserts sounded good but we were stuffed, an ample lunch for sure. read more

This place is great! Love the way the bring Pisgah High School sports into the dining room with pictures that date way back. The service is always very friendly - though getting a drink refill is a challenge at times when the school age girls are serving. The food is cooked fresh and always tastes awesome! Awesome bbq. I had the smoked bbq platter - very generous portion of delicious pulled pork. The fried okra and hush puppies were super yummy. It's very reasonable as well. Great made to order cheese burger! My two friends and I were in search of and old-fashion cheese burger and we found it hear at the Black Bear Cafe. We didn't get anything else besides the tots, which were nice a crispy! If I have to say anything negative it would be that the service is a bit slow. However, it would not stop us from coming back. read more

Stay away! The worst food I have ever tried to eat. My wife had the 'grilled' chicken and I had the BBQ. There was nothing fresh about the food. The staff was friendly and the facility was reasonably clean. The cook's hat was filthy. Looked like he'd been changing oil on his car. I can't imagine other food being any better. read more

All my offices love the grilled chicken, barbecue, baked potato, salad and banana pudding they bring. I had heard nothing but great things from locals about the food here, so I decided to take my family here after my littlest guys baseball game.. Well, never again.. The service was lousy & the food left something to be desired. Our table faced a double door freezer & I was not impressed when they opened it & saw frozen foods like I would have in my own freezer. After receiving our check I was sickened to see what we had paid for as I could have just opened my freezer & served my children the same foods for A LOT less. I'm pretty sure most restaurants might be do the same but what goes on behind closed doors is left unseen. We are from a big city so have eaten at many places so maybe in a small town people haven't ventured out to try other things, so they find this place acceptable. For great down home comfort food, you cannot beat the Black Bear Cafe. We stopped there today while we were on a ride about. The place is bigger on the inside than it looks. Sort of the Tardis of restaurants for Dr. Who fans. We each ordered the meatloaf special. I opted to replace the pinto beans with green beans. The meatloaf was freshly made in house and tasted great. Portions were BIG. The mashed potatoes w/gravy were spot on and the corn muffin tasty. Hubby had the house made thousand island dressing which he really liked. We were so full after the main course that there was no room for dessert. Next time we go, we'll have to remember to bring the cooler so we can pack any leftovers home. The wait staff was very attentive stopping by our table often. If you are near Canton, this is the place to stop. read more

In Asheville for a wedding, the family decided to go mining. We stopped here randomly for a quick lunch and we were delighted with our meals.
