Very cool spot. I came here as part of/after the "Spirits & Spirits" boat ride down the canal. That…read moreapple pie batch is awesome. I love the character of the venue. Vinnie, the owner is very cool and knowledgeable, and I appreciated learning more about the moonshine process and his business. I will always do my best to patronize small businesses like Canal Spirits. I also appreciated the stories about the building's interesting history and strange/paranormal occurrences. I'll be back again. I am looking forward to trying the pumpkin whisky.

You can order food from the upstairs restaurant and there are plenty of tasty cocktails to try. They specialize in whiskey, but as of the date of this review, they now have rum! Even if you're not a huge whiskey person (I'm not), they had some very delicious, easy-drinking whiskeys, like their Apple Pie Moonshine and the Spiced Apple Cranberry. Stop to sample everything or grab a cocktail! It feels like a speakeasy because it's in a dark, cool, little basement, and the decor sports hand-hewn beams and original sandstone block walls. The owners are personable and proud of their work: ALL ingredients are local, local, local! They were more than willing to take people on a tour! You can even rent out the place for events too. Find their products in the Massillon Giant Eagle, the Mini Mart in Canal Fulton, the Fishers on Fulton, or Lakes Beverage in Akron. Great little find!

We knew that we were going to be in the area and I "googled distilleries near me" our famous search…read moreand this place popped up. I looked them up on social media and finally the website. I seen that they were only opened on Saturday's, but you could sign up for a private distillery tasting in which I did. We arrived a few minutes early on Wednesday before our 11:30 AM tasting. We patiently waited and heard someone in the back but no response. I yelled "hello" and a woman appeared out of no where and said can I help you and I told her who I was. She seemed confused and said that Jeff Kline (one of the owners) is at a boyscout camp and that there may have been some confusion. I showed her my confirmed booking. She had called one of the other owners, Jeff's wife. As she did that she was very nice to show me around and show me where the magic happens. I was able to visit the distillery room, where they make the labels and package the products. It was a pleasant tour of the place while we waited. The other owner Angelique was on her way. She arrived and apologized and was very nice. These things happen as I personally know. She provided us the run down of the different products that they have. One happens to be a bourbon which I asked if it's made in Kentucky because they only way you can say "Kentucky Straight Bourbon" as if it's made there. She said as they had just opened in March of 2023, they have to source the bourbon for now from a place in Bardstown. She mentioned about the shortage on wine barrels and I had explained that I was aware as I had ordered barrels for my wine making in 2021 and just received one this year. She mentioned that her and her husband would always go camping with their friends. The master distiller (friend) would always bring his new drinks that he made up from moonshine and or whiskey and would always say it's so good. 2020 happened, and they started to spend more time working on products that they decided why not opening up a distillery and going in as partners. They opened up in March of 2023. She started to provide us a list of the different products that they offer by providing us a background of how it was made. "Black Dog Bourbon", named after one of the labs "Lucy", who is the youngest of the 4 labs, hence the name "Four Dogs", Blue Label Vodka that is distilled 4 times, which is named after Linus, the first of the family of Labradors, when they brought him home he cuddled up in a blue blanked and well Blue Label Vodka was born, Miss Mae's Moonshine which is distilled at 120 proof, got some heat on it but wow do you taste the flavors on this one, which is named after Dixie Mae, and they have Miss Mae's Moonshine Cinnamon Fire at 90 proof but this one is much better than the fireball, it has a unique but good taste to it. On top of it it's all clear liquid which is fantastic. We tried all of them, you're permitted 4 quarter pours, they had 6 to try, and I tried 3 and my wife tried 3 which provided us with 6 products. Liked them all, could of and should have purchased them all. They have a toasted marshmallow coming out that sounds incredible and can't wait to try, which means that we have to come back. We walked away with the Bourbon, Mis Mae's Cinnamon Fire and Vodka, I have to say Vodka isn't my thing but this one was extremely smooth. I can drink it straight and now I can make with my mix drink instead of using gin. Overall it started off confusing and we could have left, but decided to stay and be optimistic in which was a great turn out of trying some great new products. This is a small batch place, but give them a shot. I look forward to visiting more in the future to see what turns out with this new upcoming distillery in the Ohio region.
