I'm writing this afraid that sharing what happened at BJ's has gotten me banned. I've never experienced a manager like Hannah. I left shaking, anxiety full in my chest, and I'm still shaking. Tonight my fiancé, my kid, and I walked in after a hard week, just wanting one warm dinner. Then our waitress Jessica showed up and it was like she was annoyed we existed. Cold tone, barely around, gossiping with coworkers who kept glancing at our table. I'm a server. I know kindness costs nothing. I gave Jessica the same energy she gave us. I wasn't rude, just not warm. I was a bit "snippy"--my own words. Neither of us was at our best. The food was worse. Wings barely sauced. Nachos cold, the queso a brick of glue. And my kid's mac and cheese. It's Kraft. How do you mess up Kraft mac and cheese? It came out like someone scraped noodles from an over-boiled pot. Even Jessica said she could see it was poorly made. She offered another but said it would be the same. I said no. Here's where Jessica turned the night around. I asked, "Do you want me to complain to you or a manager?" She said she'd listen--and she did. I told her we'd had a terrible week and the food wasn't worth it. She told me the kitchen falls off the later it gets and acknowledged she'd been told she can come off cold. She was honest. I didn't ask for anything to be comped. I just wanted someone to know the night wasn't what BJ's service should be. Jessica went to her manager, came back, and said she took the mac and cheese off the bill. "Is that okay?" No. But it will be. We'll pay and I'll leave a review. I never asked for the manager. Then Hannah showed up at our table uninvited. "Is there a problem?" The attitude was immediate. I said we're fine. "Doesn't seem like it." I told her the experience wasn't good and I'd be leaving a review. "Well, I can just ban you from the restaurant." A scare tactic. A power move. I asked for another manager. "I am the manager." Is there someone above you? "No." Then she told me to give her my ID so she could "formally ban" me because I'd been "mistreating my server all night" and I was "done." I gave it to her because I'm not arguing with someone who came to my table ready to fight. This is not how a manager acts. Jessica came back for the bill. I was so mad at Hannah I told her I wasn't tipping. Then mid-sentence I caught myself. That wasn't on Jessica--I was taking secondary anger out on the one person who'd actually listened to me. My fiancé told her, "Just so you know, she banned us because we mistreated you." Jessica's eyes popped. I asked if she felt the ban was justified. She didn't answer directly, just apologized for the night. When I asked Jessica for the manager's name, it was almost whispered while Hannah stared at me from a booth, darting my every move. The bad food set it in stone that the experience was worth the review. Jessica offered to get me the GM's business card. She came back looking defeated. "It's online, you can find it online." Before I left, there they were: the GM's cards sitting right there at the front. A real manager says, "Hi, I'm the manager. I heard our service wasn't to standard and I apologize. I took the mac and cheese off for you. I couldn't comp the nachos or wings because you kept them, but I'd like to offer you X, Y, or Z. I hope you have a good night." THAT is how a manager should speak. Hannah came ready to rumble. Banned me for leaving a bad review. Demanded my ID. Refused to give me the GM's name or the card sitting twenty feet away. Told me to pay and get out. That's the kind of manager BJ's is keeping. I've been in this industry a long time and I've never heard a manager so out of pocket. I got chicken tortilla soup., tomato mozz salad and brussels sprouts. My hubs did the double bone in pork chop with chicken tortilla, rice and asparagus. Both meats were Uber tender. Almost too tender. The chicken tortilla soup was nice. I also quite liked the tomato mozz salad. The asparagus was perfect. Happiness. I thought my sprouts were a clunker. The weird sauce was not to my palette. My husband's rice was meh. My big pet peeve was tiny tiny containers of sauce both au just and horseradish for my prime rib. Just chintzy. Of course the specials came with infamous (apparently- we had no idea) pizookies. What the hell is a pizookie? I asked myself the same. And undercooked cookie with ice cream and assorted toppings. My first time at BJ's! Our server was super nice and we came on a Wednesday night at 8:30 and it wasn't busy. We came here Saturday with some friends. Ambiance great. Beer was good. Everything thing was good. EXCEPT the tuna poke. Now I know I shouldn't order it when it's not in Florida. But the picture looked great. It was supposed to be sushi grade which you want. Well when we got it, it was so drenched in so many sauces you couldn't even taste the tuna. It was very disappointing. BJ History: I went to a BJ's in California and it was "ok". The burger was tasteless and bland. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I was turned away! Really! Then corporate contacted me and offered me a second try. I was very hesitant and turned off. After a few months, I decided to give BJ's one last try. This would be it. All or nothing. If they failed again, I would never return. I'm a good restaurant eater and a good tipper. Today: 2023 Wow! I finally got to try their Prime Rib! I had my usual medium rare! Wow. Excellent! Juicy and cooked to perfection. Seriously. I was impressed. All the fat melted in my mouth. This really was good. The au jus was delicious and complimented the prime rib perfectly. I did not get very many pictures, I came here to use my birthday pizookie, and we ordered mozzarella sticks and bone in chicken with some drinks. The food was okay nothing spectacular, expensive for no reason. The drinks were just okay I had the wine slushy and skinny casamingo not worth the price in my opinion. BAD CUSTOMER SURVICE Came in one day and bought their 64oz jugs each jug costed me $4 and they charged me $2 per jug to fill it up. They told me i could come in anytime and fill it up for the same price. Thought is was great. The next time i came in i went to fill it up they wanted to charge me $14 for 2 jugs being $6.99 plus tax per jug, i explained my point of view to the brewer and he got his manager his name was jimmy, i spoke to him, told him what i was told. I am a long time rewards member. My dad and I went out to dinner Tuesday night Jan 28, 2025. We were there around 5pm. 1st off the bartender was a heavy set guy that usually always has a bad attitude. I warned my dad about the guy as he ordered a bottle of Bud light that was $4 at happy hour. When we asked for the chips and salsa the bartender flipped out. I asked for the manager. Tall skinny young guy with a nose ring that acted the same way. This place used to be my favorite restaurant. My kids and I will never go back and as I am a life long person of this city all 53 years and my father in his 70's will make sure to spread the word to everyone not ever go to BJ's Brewhouse. It's a standard bar vibe and dining. The food was fine. Service was okay. Sat at the bar. Watched the bartender use his bare hands in multiple garnishes without washing his hands. This is also after handling menus, wiping his face and other things. They had sticks next to the station that should have been used because a female bartender did so. I notified a manager who apologized, but she never addressed it in the additional 30+ minutes that my party sat at the bar. Makes me wonder when is the last time that they had an inspection. SUPER IMPRESSED!!! We visited for work lunch this last Friday around 1:15. It was busy, so we opted to sit at the bar to not have to wait. The bartender was awesome. Dude is a rockstar and shoutout to him for his service. He even asked us how our steaks were after the meal as he mentioned he wants to make sure his customers are happy. And the FOOD! I got a wedge salad, steak and mashed potatoes. Lesson: don't ask for extra ranch, they give you plenty. Their mashed potatoes are off the chart!! The steak had an awesome char on it! Friday. Aug 23 my husband and I went to BJ's in Taylor. We go to Livonia location frequently but we were in the area so we stopped We each ordered a drink, soups and hubby got a burger. Out comes the soups and they were barely lukewarm. We sent back. Burger was fine and back comes new soups brought by manager. They were same, lukewarm temp and waitress came over. She tested temp with finger and said yep not even warm and apologized and took back. Andrew the manager comes back with now 5th bowl.
