Fabulous hidden gem. Never would have noticed it if a friend from nisei week hadn't pointed it out. They have been around for 22 years and so have many of the stylists. They listen to you. It's not at all pretentious and you feel at home even if it's your first time. My cut was very nice. Thank you, dori! Looking forward to returning for my next cut. This is my first time at this place. This place has excellent customer service. I was greeted at the door and welcomed. My hair was washed, cut, and blow dried. The service itself met my expectations. But what set this place apart is the personal experience, the connection. The owner is absolutely wonderful. Note: This review is solely for Dori; I can't speak for any of the other stylists. Dori is fantastic. Here's why: 1. My haircuts from her always look amazing. 2. I asked her to give me a haircut that would look okay without me having to blow-dry (which is hard, I know) and she DID. 3. She sees clients from 9-11, before Biyoshi opens, so that women can bring their babies/kids and they won't disturb any other customers. This has been a lifesaver! When I first had my baby I didn't think I'd be able to get a haircut for years! 4. The price is actually affordable, especially compared to other quality hair salons in the LA area. BIYOSHI'S is an awesome place to get your haircut. i been going there for about 2 years or so, and every time I've been pleased with the cut. To be completely honest, it's slightly pricey for a guys cut, but i have no problem going back. If you have issues with your cut, Biyoshi allows you to stop by and get a touch-up in a weeks time, FREE! Honestly, Warren understands exactly how i need my hair cut, a hard task from my experience with other stylists. I have been going to Chrisitna for over 10 years. I get compliments on my hair daily! Finding a good stylist is really hard...Christina always gives me the best highlights I could ask for! I'm naturally a brunette and I get asked if I'm a natural blond everytime. I've gone to many stylist in the past and I always end up brassy or taking three hours or more. I was new to the neighborhood so I was looking for a place to get my hairs cut. This place has a big scissor outside their door and since I drive past it to work everyday, I thought I'd give Biyoshi a try. This place is clean, modern, and the staffs are friendly. I was worried it might be too much of a girly salon but it is actually gender and kid friendly. :) I didn't have a reservation but luckily there were a few staffs there and one of them was available to help me. Even though they take walk-ins, I learned perhaps a call in advance for a reservation is a good idea. All I needed was a simple haircut so Steve washed and shampooed my hair before Warren gave me a great hair cut. He asked how I want my hairs cut, then gave some suggestions and I went with what he suggested. After he was done, I was glad I took his advice. Then Steve helped rinse off my hairs again before I was on my merry way. What I noticed about the place was that everyone is friendly and helpful. There are female as well as male customers and the staffs seem to know them well. It has a nice relaxing atmosphere and I certainly find the price a lot more reasonable than other places I had inquired about. It is definitely a place I will return. Thanks! read more

I loved my first time here. When I first called in, whoever it was that answered (I'm gonna guess it was the owner) was really friendly and made me feel at ease. He told me regular price for shampoo cut and style would be 43 but for being a first time customer, it'll be 38. Not bad seeing as most places charge 30 and up for only a haircut. When I got there, Rachel was my hairstylist and she was quick to ask what I wanted and how much I wanted cut. I loved that she paid attention to what I said because I've had some horrible experiences at other salons. She also answered some questions I've had about highlights and what sorts of products I should use for my frizzy hair. She was honest too which is what I prefer. I will definitely be going back in the future whether it be for a trim or to get some color done :) read more

I have been going to Christina for several years. She does a great job and there is never a problem. The salon is small and fine with me. I don't like chaotic salons and the price is great. I got my haircut here for the first time today. It's been some time since I've had a haircut that lifted my mood as the one today has done. My appoint was with Dori early in the morning. She was friendly, attentive, and gave me the exact haircut that I had asked for. She made sure that I got the length I wanted (and not an inch shorter). It's hard to find a salon with great haircut and good service at the same time. I paid $38 for the cut, which included a $5 discount for first-time customers. This review is for my first visit to Biyoshi. Dori was fabulous, and she deserves 5 stars. Steve, the owner was good for 2/3 of my interaction with him but then bombed with a rude comment at the end. So, I took off a star for Steve's rudeness. I was looking for a stylist who would cut my hair the way I wanted them to. I used to have a stylist who did a great job, but for some reason, he had started to do whatever he wanted regardless of what I wanted, sometimes giving me drastically different cuts that I requested. He would even argue with me, telling me that he was the expert so I needed to let him give me whatever style he wanted So, I needed someone new that I could trust. Dori was that person. Dori was pleasant and accommodating. I was a few minutes late due to being blocked into my driveway, but she was very kind about it. The shop was 2/3 empty as it was the end of the day, and she was ready for me the minute I walked in. She washed my hair, carefully accommodating my request not to use hot water. She listened carefully to what I wanted and asked questions to make sure she did exactly what I needed. While some stylists will want to make a "style" they like, she did what I wanted, and that is the type of interaction and result I was looking for. She listened carefully as I told her that I don't use heat styling or products on my hair most of the time, and she asked me whether I wanted her to dry my hair or allow it to air dry using spray. She did not try to get me to buy more services like haircolor or special treatments. She did not try to sell me product. She was efficient. I walked out with my hair looking polished and with the length I wanted. Dori was very mild mannered, pleasant, and skilled. I highly recommend her. Steve, the owner, was very pleasant and efficient on the phone when I called to make the appointment. He offered me a same day "fit in" schedule or a next day appointment that wouldn't be rushed. I took the next day appointment and was very pleased to not have to wait days or weeks. When I arrived, Dori greeted me, and so I didn't talk to Steve then. When I went to pay and told him I was pleased at the appointment availability and reasonable price, he showed appreciation. I pulled out my card to pay, butm as it was a card I didn't use much, I couldn't remember my pin the first time. It only took seconds to say it wasn't the right one, but right before my third (successful) attempt, I told Steve that if I couldn't remember it, I'd pay cash. He quickly responded, "I'll give you one more chance. I don't want to stand here all night. I mean, you're nice, but..." Since it only took seconds to get a response on a PIN and the place was largely empty with no line, there was no reason for him to be impatient, and of course, there is never a reason to be rude to a customer. I thought he might be joking, but when I looked up at him, he was frowning at me. When you have customer standing in front of you trying to give you money and your shop is nearly empty, it's common sense to be courteous. I wondered if he was trying to get me to pay cash by making that rude comment. So, I knocked a star off for that and hope that, if I return, Steve will be consistently courteous. In summary, I recommend Dori as someone who will be extremely courteous, attentive to your wishes, mild mannered, and skilled. She doesn't impose her wishes on you. I had the impression that she would advise me if I had asked her about styles, but I knew what I wanted, and she very carefully gave it to me. She did not get "scissor happy". Because of Dori's excellent service, the quick appointment availability, the reasonable price, and Steve's initial courtesy, it pains me to knock off a star for Steve's final rude comment, but, because disrespect can spoil an experience and Steve profits from Dori's business, I feel it's appropriate to make that adjustment. read more

So disappointed. This place has been around for years and years. I remember coming here when I was a kid. I don't live or work in the area but today I was in the area. I remembered always having a great experience when I was younger so I called and they were able to get me in! I'm very picky about my hair and I asked for someone that has plenty of experience but there's a fine line when asking that question. I was told my stylist has 20 years. I should have known then that she wasn't an up to date on technique. So I came with pictures upon pictures all variations of the lob. I understand that my hair is broken from being blonde for so long and I was ok with a what had to be done. I ended up with the 90's "Rachel" cut that's not even blended. And when I asked about styling the cut she told me that all the pictures where of the "natural wave" that's why their hair looks like that. Sorry NO, I'm a hairdresser I may not be in a salon working but I still do hair on the side and I know that you never leave a client with air dried hair not styled. It was my first time going to Biyoshi. When I went in, there was not a receptionist present to greet me. I stood by the door for a bit until a hairdresser asked me with whom I had my appointment with. I had Sharon cut my hair. I didn't like the haircut at all. The hair style was old, and she asked me if I liked the hair color I got currently. I would think a good hair stylist would suggest new hair styles and color. Instead I got a pretty old and boring hair cut. And when i got home, I realized that I still had shampoo or conditioner left in my hair. My haircut and color cost me $100, excluding tip and excluding a $5 first timer discount. I don't think the hair job I received worth that much. I will look for another salon next time. read more

First off I woukd like to say Warren is the best. He's very friendly and has got a great personality he truly makes you feel at home. Now to the cut I asked for a graduated bob which is how I cut my hair when I just don't want to deal with it. Warren took his time and made sure he cut my hair evenly. He did a wonderful job! I would definately recommend this salon. Prices are reasonably for a great cut. Warren aims to please so if you do leave and go home and decide you don't like it he will tell you to come back and he'll fix/redo your hair so you can't go wrong. I don't pay a lot for my hair cut but I have to admit, I have to come back every other time. it's like get a good hair cut and color here at Biyoshi, then I go to a cheaper place to get trimmings then I return for the another fix! I am a very happy happy girl right now. I've wanted a nice simple haircut with layers for a very long time, but I never got what I wanted. The last time I got a hair cut the person wouldnt let me get what I want!! I wanted layers with my hair parted on the side, but he said no it wouldnt be even so he continued to cut my hair with my hair parted down the middle even though i didnt want it. I live in San Francisco but make a point to get my hair cut at Biyosh. I have been going there since they opened and when I moved to San Francisco I haven't been able to find another Salon in San Francisco that cuts my hair as well as at Biyoshi. I usually get my hair cut from Warren and have never been disappointed. I usually get lots of compliments after a cut. The Salon itself is cozy and just the right size, and Warren and his staff are friendly and professional --I always feel comfortable when I am there. I cannot recommend this place enough.
