If you comb through a few reviews, and certainly the pics, you'll notice a must-order items is the roasted eggplant with pomegranate. It really is like nothing else I've had before and unforgettable in both taste and texture. My group also went with a famous lamb dish as well. I don't remember the name offhand, but it is incredibly soft, well seasoned and nicely spiced dish. We also went with orders of naan, veggie dishes and meat skewers. It's beautifully decorated inside and also has the advantage of being located in a heritage building in what was formerly an estate home nearly 150 years old. It's truly a unique place and one people living in the area can be proud and of showcase to visitors.

The moment he saw me, he recognized me and welcomed me warmly, as always. He called me "Akka," and it genuinely brought back many memories. We hugged and shared memories of olden days... What struck me most is that he has not changed one bit -- the same humility, politeness, warmth, and dedication to serving food that feels genuinely prepared by a family, for their customers. I also met his wife, whom I call Tangachi, and his daughter Nisha, who was cooking yesterday. That is what makes GuruLaxmi special: this is truly a family-owned and family-operated place, where the food is prepared with the care and authenticity that you simply cannot manufacture. My friend thoroughly enjoyed the food, and it was especially nice seeing him discover the dosas and other South Indian dishes for himself. Friends of mine from Australia and New Zealand have also been eager to try the dosas here after hearing about them. For me, GuruLaxmi is more than just a restaurant. At 5:30pm the server came around and reminded us of the dining limit and I frankly pointed out that my father who's birthday it is hasn't gotten his food and we were told it was because it was burnt and being remade 10 mins ago... His food comes at 5:35pm and someone else comes around at 5:40pm reminding us that we are approaching the dining limit. The dismissive attitude, facial expressions, and arrogance were completely unnecessary and left a very poor impression. A restaurant can have great décor, but hospitality is what brings guests back.
