Good service, drinks and food. My mother enjoyed her Prime Rib, and I enjoyed the local oysters and my rum cocktail. I hear some complaints about the ambiance, specifically that the indoor seats are downstairs next to the long bar. Personally, I find the downstairs cozy, with a fireplace and an old wooden ceiling. And when I'm eating and drinking, I don't need an outside view. But I get it. If you're here for an event, you will probably be upstairs with white tablecloths and plenty of light or maybe outside in the huge beautiful garden. But if you're just here for meatloaf and beer, then you're probably downstairs in the semi-basement bar restaurant area. I thought everything was fine, and I didn't mind the ambiance. read more

Decided to take a late afternoon drive from Bridgewater to Westport. We stumbled across The Tavern @Bittersweet Farm. The tavern itself was packed (waiting list only) at 3:30pm on a Friday, but we were seated immediately on the outdoor patio, surrounded by beautiful flower beds and fresh air. I cannot say enough about our server, Jessica. She was amazing in every way--super friendly, attentive to details all sorts, including touristy spots, and WOW, the food here is amazing. Unbeknownst to us, Fridays are half price apps from 3-5pm. There are at least six to eight I could have tried but we opted for the bread basket and the BBQ chicken nachos (at the suggestion of Jessica). The nachos arrived with 3 generous ramekins of salsa, guac & sour cream, and the nachos were a delicious blend of sweet and savory. The bread basket is equally amazing--slices of crusty baguettes and the most deliciously buttery corn bread. Again, served with whipped butter and a homemade red pepper jam (fresh, not sugary sweet). Portions here are very generous and the prices were surprisingly affordable. For entrees, I had The Point fried oyster salad (with fresh greens, crisp bacon, red onion & horseradish peppercorn dressing) and my friend had the fish & chips (and she mentioned how delicious the coleslaw was too). My salad was served with a generous amount of light and crispy fried oysters, one of my favorite summertime seafood indulgences. We had no room for dessert, but I had a minty, boozey hot coffee and my friend had a cappuccino to finish out the meal. Jessica thoughtfully packaged up our left overs and provided FRESH to-go containers of condiments to accompany our nachos and the breads. Amazing service is the hallmark of this restaurant; even the manager came out to chat with us. There is a beautiful open space adjacent to the restaurant, used for wedding ceremonies and an event space on the top floor of the tavern. I will be back many times to eat my way through the menu, which does change seasonally. read more

Well if she is new and not properly trained, who's fault is that? Professional people do not make their customers pay for the mistakes of their staff! Very unprofessional service.....steer clear. This review is based solely on it's handicap accessibility. We went to a function on the top floor in the back. They non-apologetically have no elevator for the handicap or elderly patrons. We had to arrange ourselves to have strong family members come to the venue and carry my mother up the stairs and then back down after the event. Then we had to pray the entire time that she did not need to use the bathroom, because there isn't one on that level. I don't think I have EVER experienced such POOR disability accommodations in my 60 years! Shame on you Bittersweet Farm. In the future, I would NEVER book your facility myself!!! Absolutely a beautiful wedding for my son and daughter in law. The grounds were amazing and everything went as planned until we discovered they had a video camera in the bridal suite upstairs. The bridal party changed from their pajamas to their wedding gown and dresses. I approached staff and owner and was told "the camera is filming but we are the only ones who can see it" The LaFrance company told me "they erased the footage for entire weekend" The bartender did not card and a few guests were over served while the staff kept bringing the intoxicated individuals water to drink as they knew they probably should have told them no for drinks earlier. This is shameful and cannot believe such a great venue would think having live cameras rolling while women change is ok . read more

Went out to eat tonight at Bittersweet which we usually like. The service was really bad and the food certainly did not make up for that. We ordered 1/2 dozen little necks and 1/2 dozen oysters. The oysters were good but definitely not shucked proper as there were a lot of shell pieces during consumption. The little necks were not good at all and lots of shel fragments in each bite. The flatbread pizza was so burnt and a lot of expired pieces of arugula. Our bartender was good, she knew the pizza was overcooked and took it upon herself to comp 2 glasses of wine. My family and I worked with Bittersweet Farm and LaFrance Hospitality for my sister's wedding and reception last weekend. It was a wonderful event and the staff deserves tremendous recognition for making it happen. I was the wedding planner but was unable to visit the venue in-person until the week of the wedding due to being from out of town. The venue's responsiveness was not the best in the months leading up to the event, my sister had multiple emails go unanswered, but once we were assigned Alexis Ferland as our Day-Of Coordinator a few weeks before the big day everything went smoothly. It was one of the best run weddings I've seen during my time in the industry. Alexis and her crew were efficient, unflappable, and worked nonstop throughout the event. When there was something I had forgotten to do, they were already one step ahead of me. Given the tight turnaround time between events (only two hours to set up after another wedding concluded), I am so grateful to all the staff who made it happen with a smile. I truly could not have done it without all of them. They were really outstanding and were always available to answer questions or handle special requests or concerns. The venue is absolutely beautiful even without additional decorations, from the lush green lawn and gazebo where we held the ceremony to the rustic barn with twinkle lights on the ceiling beams. The only slight downside of the venue is that the full bar is up a set of steep stairs on the second floor, so folks with mobility issues had to rely on others to get drinks for them. Thankfully there were no mishaps even when people came down the steps with two cocktails in hand! We were very pleased with all the food throughout the night; you can tell Bittersweet is a restaurant as well as event venue. We selected mini crabcakes, Beef Wellington, spanikopita, and fish and chips for the passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour, and while I didn't get to try them the guests said they were great. Alexis also brought a tray with three or four of everything to the bride and groom while they took post-ceremony photos so they wouldn't miss out! Dinner was plated and a choice of salmon, prime rib, or vegetable skewers and it was excellent. I loved that that the entrees were dairy and nut free and Kosher-friendly for guests with dietary restrictions. We opted for a late-night snack of sliders and fries which were a big hit, and the staff cut and served the cake we provided. They also boxed the top tier of the cake for the newly weds even through I completely forgot to ask for it! We absolutely recommend Bittersweet Farm and Alexis for a special event. read more

It had been so many years since I had been here and I am really glad we came her for dinner Saturday night! The food was very good, cocktails were fantastic and the service was great! The White Christmas Martini was so unbelievably delicious! (Tippy Cow Peppermint Bark Rum Cream, White Godiva Liqueur & White Crème de Cacao with red and green icing swirled inside the glass) There was definitely more than one of these bad boys ordered! lol They brought out a nice basket with a variety of different warm bread including corn bread, which I love. It also came with softened butter and relish! For my dinner, I chose Frenchy's Clam Zuppa. Great place for dinner in Westport. We got seated right away on a Saturday at 6-ish so that was nice! The interior is rustic with exposed wood, cozy and comfy. There was an acoustic musician playing so we picked a good night! The blueberry lemonade cocktail was great, not too sweet or boozy. We had the bread basket as a starter and it was really good, the cornbread was just right. Then we each got the Korean Tofu Tacos. It was grilled veggies in 3 corn taco shells dressed in a sweet / spicy sauce. It was ok, nothing particularly spectacular. Hot, fresh crispy fries as a side. Waitress was attentive, pleasant and on point with checking on us. Overall a satisfying, pleasant meal accented by the noise & cheer of a happy wedding upstairs. read more

This time, I tried the Scrod & Necks: lots of little neck clams in a wonderful broth, full of Chourico bits, chopped potatoes, kale & beans, surrounding a large piece of white fish. ('scrod' is a catch all name for a variety of different fish). The aroma was heavenly, and the taste was scrumptious. My wife had the Roasted Angus Prime Rib (I sneaked a bite - yummy), and we shared 8 Farm Wings w/ Honey Mustard sauce (could have had more, they were so good). Our friends and fellow Yelpers frequent Bittersweet Farms, so I had to tag along and see what it was about. They have a beautiful building with a restaurant on the top and a tavern down below. Due to a private event dinner was served in the tavern tonight. The restaurant was wonderfully decorated for Christmas, making it warm and inviting. Their holiday themed drinks were a great hit as well! Their menu is full of delicious items, but I had to try the Bourbon Street Barnsider. I am not usually a big red meat eater, but this prime rib on open faced Texas toast sounded really good, and was it ever! Their food was good as was their service! I can see why our friends frequent this restaurant and we will be certain to return very soon ourselves! read more

My fiancé and myself went there a couple of days ago and enjoyed some delicious appetizers at the bar. The bartender's name was Jessica and we couldn't ask for better service. She was upbeat, had a beautiful smile and served us right away. Also, Jess was personable and could hold a conversation about anything I had the crab cakes which were had plenty of crab but maybe a little too heavy on the bay seasoning. Otherwise, I was happy with them. My fiancé had the Bacon Blue Flatbread. We shared a side order of onion straws ( our favorite). We had a reservation for four in the tavern last Friday night. We were seated promptly and greeted quickly by out server. The guys had soft drinks, we ladies ordered adult beverages that were excellent. For appetizers we tried the pretzel cheese board which was a big soft fresh pretzel with beer cheese and included other meats cheeses. We enjoyed this so much we plan on getting it again next time. The scallops wrapped in bacon were delicious and we'd recommend them as well. For dinner, three of us orderd prime rib with mashed potatoes, and asparagus that was cooked perfectly, the other had the salmon, which she enjoyed very much saying it was seasoned and cooked wonderfully. We split two desserts, one was a chocolate peanut butter pie special and the creme brulee. The creme brulee was just ok, it had very little flavor but other than that, our experience was great and our server was one of the best we've had anywherein a long time. Cheers to her! (We wish we coud remember her name) We left shortly after the live music started as we were seated next to him and it was quite loud. Dinner was DELish!! Came here for a date night- we didn't make a reservation so there was a little bit of a wait but it was so worth it. We got the special lamb lollipops for the app. Cooked perfectly and so much flavor! For our meals my boyfriend got the pork ribeye that he loved, and I have the prime rib open sandwich, OMG I would come back for this single dish over and over again! There was a live band playing which was awesome, there's a cute little fireplace too which made it cozy. For dessert the apple crisp was 10/10. We've been a few times over the years for various events and dining. Upstairs is a cozy open barn "upscale dining experience. Perfect for a special occasion. Upstairs in the main room is also where several weddings and an anniversary party we have attended have been. Downstairs is a cozy tavern complete with a fireplace. This is more of a casual meet up with friends area. The food is delicious and so are the drinks. If you're looking for a good appetizer definitely try their wings and boneless tenders, so crispy and flavorful. If you time your visit right you may come when they have half price apps or other deals like beer and a burger for $18. Nice to have a versatile location so close. read more

After last weekend's visit to Bittersweet Farm I was not surprised to see their 3.4 out of 5 numerical rating average. There was a time when they had great food with ample serving sizes at reasonable prices, but my last visit found their prices now comparable to 15 Point and even the Boathouse (both in Tiverton) and both with better quality and quantity. Both also have well lit, nice atmospheres and nice views, compared to the dark, enclosed, old-tavern feel of Bittersweet. Not to say our food was bad, it was good, but at that price point it should be better and quite frankly, the portion size of my "Big Easy Salmon," was disappointingly skimpy. The cook was great and everything about it was nice, but I have always had great salmon at 15 Point and the Boathouse for the now same price points and the service size was never that small. Everyone was overall completely satisfied with their meals, the take-away was that their price point now puts them in the same range as some of the much more upscale offerings and there is little incentive to go for a dated atmosphere and limited sized portions when there is a lot more competition at their new price point. On the positive side, our server and service was excellent. read more

Dinner on Saturday night with a party of 7. This place handles large groups very well. The staff are really nice and I love the feel of the lower tavern. It is certainly a noisy place. If you have a big group sit next to the people you most want to talk to. Dinner was just great - a few of us had fries with our dinner and I have to say they were some of the best I have had in a long time. They are a cross between potato chips and French fries. We have eaten here a hundred times over the last 10 years and they changed the fries recently and it was a great move. The items we had were all well received. From the simple cheese burger, caprese salad, Caesar salad these were well executed. The more complex dishes were also done really well and those included the lobster avocado salad, stuffed sole, stuffed shrimp, and my dish the seafood Mozambique were great. The Mozambique was spicy but not crazy hot and it was so flavorful. It came with rice and those great fries and I got about 6 shrimp and the same number of scallops. Very fresh. I appreciate when. What a disappointment. I ordered fish and chips (the wait for wait staff should have been a tip-off). After a significant delay, my meal, and that of my companion, arrived. Too bad the fish was over cooked and burned in places. The included tartar sauce and coleslaw were served in thimble-sized containers, consistent with the size of the fish received. And our waitress only managed to check on our satisfaction after we had almost finished our meal. Several things are clear: the Tavern is over-priced (my meal was $20.00), could not provide unsweetened iced tea (our preference) and clearly was more interested in selling alcoholic beverages. After a week of sightseeing around the Cape, we needed a respite from seafood, crowds, and the hustle/traffic. We found it here at Bittersweet Farms. The atmosphere is phenomenal and we appreciated the wonderful service and care Jessica provided to us. She was by far the best waitress we had during our entire vacation! This felt like having dinner at a friend's house. The kids loved the atmosphere and wanted to explore the whole place. We ate in the Tavern. The bread and corn muffins were delicious - the red pepper jelly should be bottled and shipped worldwide! Husband and I both got the bacon bleu burger. They were HUGE and so tasty! The Bibb lettuce was super fresh and the brioche bun was perfect! The fries were piping hot! It was a great meal after a looooong day! I got a Moscow Mule and my husband got a Mayflower IPA. The Mule was perfectly made and much needed! The kids got a kid's cheeseburger and garlic mashed potatoes, chicken parmesan over pasta and a garden salad and chicken tenders (for the baby... who took two bites!) We had leftovers! They enjoyed their meals... but were most excited about their root beer and after dinner ice cream treat! (Great touch!) After dinner we walked around the premises ... they were setting up for a party in the restaurant- it was beautiful! So rustic and original! The space is very welcoming and home-y. If we lived in this area, I could imagine all the parties I'd host here! I came here again for dinner and just have to rave about the good experience! I came for a function tonight that had a small menu to choose from. I noticed there was no non-meat option, so I asked one of the staff if it was possible if I could have a vegan meal. She said "Of course! We'll make one for you." A few minutes later she came over and said "The chef said he could do roasted vegetables over a bed of lettuce." I said that was fine, since I know vegan meals can be tough. Well when the Waitress brought over my meal, I was impressed. All I saw was a super colorful, huge bowl of veggies! Roasted peppers, tomatoes , onions, asparagus and more. All the guests around me commented on it, saying they wish they could have it and how delicious it looked. It was very delicious and super filling! Then, the meals at this function came with a dessert (brownie sundae). I didn't even ask for anything and never thought anything of it, thinking I couldn't have anything. Hooray! I can't wait to come back. We arrived too early for dinner, but the tavern opens at three, so we went there. Comfy cushioned seats awaited us with a menu that was really hard to pick from (they have the tavern and restaurant menu to choose from). The bread, sweet butter & red pepper jelly was a great start, but the jamaican jerk wings (on the bone) were freaking delicious! The cocktails were tasty too. For dinner I got the Bittersweet Steak Tip Salad and substituted field greens for bib lettuce. It was really yummy, especially with the bleu cheese dressing. The steak was a little cold when it arrived, but the marinade was delish. The only thing that wasn't great was the bread pudding which was dry and hard, which is a little odd for bread pudding. Date night with my Irish honey. I had never been but she suggested it. Of course while she's in the bathroom getting ready, I'm checking Yelp... some bumpy reviews here. We had a good experience. We got their relatively early so I asked if we could get one of the tables by the fireplace. While waiting we sat at the bar for a drink. Cool atmosphere (we were downstairs - that's our speed) and accommodating staff. We were quickly served at the bar and our table was ready in about 15 minutes. GUYS - If you want to have a romantic evening, come during fireplace season and get one of the tables right next to it. Unless you eat with your mouth open, you're going to get lucky. On to the food. I ordered us the Golden Calamari for an appetizer. It was a hit but I'm wondering if anyone does these not out of a bag. For mains I ordered us the NZ Rack of Lamb and the Chicken Caprese Pasta. Not sure how she did this but my partner has gone her entire live without eating lamb. Didn't think it was possible as it was a staple in my Irish family growing up. The only difference is my mom would cook it to shoe leather and serve with mint jelly (this stuff should be banned)... I digress. I ordered the lamb medium rare but it was more of the rare side. It was really good though and we both ate every lovely lamb morsel. The pasta was good but I was expecting more punch from the flavor. The portions were ginormous and no room left for dessert. I have been here a few times, and it always seems to be hit or miss. The very first time, we walk in, a group of 4, and just wait there. There are empty tables, but we are just waiting. The waiters see us, we even ask one of them, they tell us they will get someone, finally, (5 minutes later) the person comes to seat us. Five minutes may not seem like long, but when you walk in a place next time, just stand there for 5 minutes to see how long it feels like. Other times we have a server that always comes wait to late to the table, never refills drinks, or take forever to get the bill. The food is pretty good and enjoyable. They recently changed their menu, but the classics are there, allowing you to get a good burger, some nice sandwiches, or other pub foods. I usually get the clam chowder with the blue moon burger. On Thursdays they have a live performer to play and sing, which is nice in a sense, but it gets way to loud. The tavern is very small and not spacious, so when they play it can get uncomfortable and you cannot talk or hear your table. My friends usually avoid eating here on the days of a performance. The small tavern also makes it difficult for larger groups to eat here, as the wait for two tables to open can get long. We will continue to go back, but maybe once a month, hoping for a good server, knowing their is good food. read more

The space itself is so beautiful that I knew I wanted my wedding to be here from my first step inside. My wife and I worked with Carla for our big day- she is the BEST of the best. Her attention to detail and welcoming personality made wedding planning a breeze. The food was fantastic and the servers were on their A game. We had our rehearsal dinner downstairs in the tavern and that was amazing too. Great food. Great drinks. I cannot say enough good things about Bittersweet Farm.
