If they can keep up the quality and good prices in the long run this place is totally gonna make it! I'm rooting for them. Now $7 isn't exactly cheap for a sub, but for a sandwich aficionado like myself it's the holy grail. They use a healthy portion of Boars Head meats, thinly sliced on great breads. The veggies were fresh. They also sell the meat by the pound, and Boars Head is next to impossible to find around here. I made a mental note to stop by for the $11 kitchen sink sandwich. Seven meats and two cheeses? That sounds like an awesome 1:45AM snack. --Update a few days later-I got a meatball sub here at it was borderline terrible. Portion size was good, but they were very clearly frozen meatballs, and to top it all off they were cold, the sauce was bland and the bread wasn't toasted. I went here last night after a cocktail party at the Fairmont. It is a short walk from the hotel in the Nob Hill region. It was open late around 130 am which gives this place extra points for catering to late birds looking for good eats after a nice time drinking with friends. I had a sandwich, the Kitchen Sink, and there was a ton of meat on it. Great sandwich. The baguette bread had great texture, the perfect balance of soft and crunchy/firm. I base great sandwiches on the quality of all elements and for some reason some people take for granted the bread, and Bite delivers on the perfect sandwich bread. Damn, I was hella disappointed with Bite. I got the Gouda Good and was so looking forward to it, but it was not what I was expecting. I think my mistake was going on a Friday at around 7:30pm, but that really shouldn't be an excuse. The bread was hard and crusty. The chicken was dry. Not cool. I like this place because it's one block from my apartment and it's open until 2am. They have a good selection of different sandwiches, deli meats, salads, etc. My favorite so far is definitely the Gouda Good. Bite was fantastic! We catered our Holiday Party with sandwiches and when my first choice go to place wouldn't accommodate the large order on short notice, a friend suggested I go to Bite. I couldn't have been happier! Not only did I bring the order from another restaurant, they helped me figure out what on their menu was similar, and had the order ready 15 minutes earlier than I asked. Not to mention they started working on the order a full hour and a half before they opened to the public. I was able to feed 14 people for $150- incredible. Anyway, this place is kind of hidden from the intersection, but it's actually the third restaurant from the intersection...with kind of a faded blue overhang. It's essentially a small deli, opened until 1:30 AM daily. The sandwiches aren't too big to be honest (six inches I believe), but the "My Ex" was DELICIOUS!! The sauce was really good and the rotisserie chicken was juicy. All of the ingredients seem fresh. I only wish the sandwiches were larger though (especially since it was $9 for the sandwich). No seating space (other than the window sills), so definitely a take and go kind of place. They also sell a variety of meats, cheeses, potato salad, and of course hot dogs and chips. Delicious bite to eat. Definitely recommend the "My Ex." I've had better sandwiches in SF (i.e. The Sandwich Place, Ike's) but those are in different neighborhoods... and this one is pretty close to the Academy's Urban Knights Cafe on Sutter that I like to frequent. :] read more

Being a bleu cheese enthusiast, I naturally gravitated towards the gobbler - turkey, bacon, bleu cheese, a nice hunk of avocado, everything on it, on dutch crunch. It's a real homerun. This sandwich, coupled with my walking past the storefront every workday, makes this deli a big find; they will see plenty more of my business. Fully endorsed... We came after clubbing one night and ordered sandwiches from a young Mark Wahlberg lookalike. Made the experience that much yummier! Boyfriend ordered the Kookooroo. I'm not a fan of apples/fruit in my food so it wasn't for me, but he really liked it. I got the Gigolo that had the proscuitto and other stuff I don't remember. It was delicious! It was probably about 7in sandwich and had a decent amount of filling..could use a bit more chicken like some of the pics i saw but wasnt stingy. Dutch crunch was good. .nice crust without cutting the roof of ur mouth. Sauce to meat ratio was perfect. Not dry at all and the Sammy had white meat. For 9.99, was little pricey but about average for sandwich shops. I ate the whole thing and was content but not that full. That plus, a bottle of water was 11.95..I should have just, asked for a cup. .and you get a lollipop w your order. Salad, soups, sammys, wraps and, variety of kettle chips to choose from. The good: The meat is Boar's Head. There's nothing like it in the neighborhood. It's open till 2AM. Cool owners. Outdoor seating. They serve sausages and other stuff. The could-be-better: My biggest gripe is the bread. The rolls are so big that I have to dig out the bread like a canoe to get a good balance. Not ideal. They should either change breads/rolls, or double the meat they put in the sandwiches. Which is my other gripe, there's not a lot of meat in the sandwiches. Take a look at the photos... all bread. A good sandwich should hit you with the meat flavor first, accented by the mayo/mustard, then filled in with the cheese and veggies, and just held together by the bread. These sandwiches make you dig through a ton of bread to get to the meat. Which means that even when the meat is hot (like the Vinny Bag o Donuts) your sandwich is cold cause of the bread. Also, I usually have to go next door to the bodega for chips and drinks cause the selection is better, but maybe that will improve. For my taste, they could stand to rethink their whole bread situation, and start constructing sandwiches that make the ingredients the star. Because they have great stuff: good quality meats, good cheeses, good spreads, etc. read more

Perfect sandwiches!! The sandwiches here are a nice size meaning you can easily share with a friend/wifey/lover whatever. There is really not seating here so be prepared to take out or use the front window which acts as a sitting spot and there is an extra chair to sit and eat. Just don't pig out since you are like inches from the door/incoming customers and the counter. They use Boars head meats so it's good stuff no junk meats. They also have soups and salads to eat. Lots of choices on cheeses also, I like the blue cheese crumbles on a toasted sandwich. In their front case they also have some already made lasagna and other items in case you want to try those (didn't test these yet). The drink selection is ok, wish they had a few more choices like iced tea/lemonade or something. Not a big fan of the Alo (sp?) drinks. read more

Having just moved to SF I quickly began my search for a great deli within walking distance of my apartment. Luckily for me I stumbled upon Bite right away. The sandwiches are made to order, toasted on request (get it toasted, the dutch crunch is bomb), with a variety of breads, meats, and sauces to choose from. There are a number of different specialty sandwiches, my favorite being the Branding Iron. I'm also excited to try out the Kitchen Sink, which features 7 different meats!! Considering this place is open until 2am, that may become a dangerous late night meal.... Definitely check this place out! read more

I was really excited when this place opened last year. Their sandwiches are really good, as well as their chicken, pickles & sausages. Unfortunately my husband and i are reluctant to go because of their slow & mediocre service. There was one night where we waited close to 20 minutes... for a sandwich! and we were the only people waiting. Seriously, there was no one else in there. I had an experience there in which the owner was at the counter and proceeded to answer a business call on his cell phone and talk loudly while standing in front of us for an awkward 5 minutes. We were waiting for our order to be taken by him and had to wait until he was done with his conversation. Nor was he nice to us - but the guy that walked in behind us? He greeted him with a big hello and a smile and was really nice to him while we awkwardly stood there yet again. Delicious sandwiches! We were in SF on a little relaxing (as relaxing as a trip can be when you are walking up giant hills all the time) getaway and were staying at Hotel Vertigo a couple doors down from Bite. We walked by our first night on the way to check in and it smelled SO good as we passed by. We had been traveling all day and were hungry and wanting something easy and close by. We walked back down to Bite and stopped in and read over the menu and decided we were in the right spot. The menu has a ton of delightful looking sandwiches to choose from. I recommend anything on the Dutch Crunch bread. It was really good freaking bread. Soft yet crunchy. The rotisserie chicken is super good (the source of the awesome smells emanating from the place). We wound up going back for dinner there our last night because we wanted to have a chance to try another sandwich. Not disappointed. It's not fancy dining but it's damn good sandwiches. I usually order the Gouda good but today i got the BYO with cracked pepper turkey and bacon and it was amazing but they forgot the avocado on the sandwich :( I love the chicken but it's hit or miss and sometimes is a little dry. Been wanting to try this place since it opened-finally did and this place did not disappoint. Shared the Gouda Good sammy = their in-house rotisserie chicken w melted Gouda cheese and Special Secret Sauce (Pepperhouse Sauce). The SSS made the sammy really come together well-left such a good creamy taste in my mouth (insert phallic joke here!). I also loved how they had almost every flav of Dirty Chips! Great sandwiches! I just had my first meal from Bite, and I am impressed. My partner and I ordered three sandwiches: Gouda Good - it really is as delicious as every review on here says. Get it. Kookooroo - this was decent , but not on GG's level. The apple slices were super fresh! My Ex - Not wonderful. The walnuts did not taste as good in a sandwich as either of us were hoping. Would not recommend. I saw another reviewer on here give a ringing endorsement of the Vegetarian Bite. I'll probably try that next time I go. Portion sizes were generous. I'm a big guy with a big appetite, and one sandwich was about right for me (I might eat 1.5 on a hungry day). All in all, I'm impressed with their fresh ingredients and interesting flavor combinations, all for $9-$10 for most of their sandwiches. I will definitely be back! read more

I walked into Bite after checking out their reviews and I'm so glad I did - the sandwich combinations were unique and so tasty! I got the Gouda Good- rotisserie chicken (freshly made on the premises), gouda, lettuce, tomato onion, pickle, and some kind of magical peppercorn sauce. The bread it comes on is called "Dutch crunch", and I must say, this bread takes the sandwich to a new level. The bill came out to $15 for the sandwich and a Snapple.
