This is a real computer place that cares about its customers. John, the owner, does a lot of computer work for big companies in town, but he always finds the time to help the little guy out. If he quotes you a price for repairs, he sticks to it. That is so rare these days, I think the man deserves a medal for integrity. One of his best traits is that he talks to you like a human. He's not one of those pimply-faced punks with a bad haircut at Best Buy who makes you feel like your wasting his time by asking questions about things you want to know more about. John's a class-act and if you need your computer repaired, go see him. read more

I took my laptop in over two months ago and I am picking it up today un fixed. John has done nothing but ignore my calls, jerk me around and give me story after story about why my laptop isn't done yet. Some guy they hired sucked and didn't do anything, there was a flood, maybe my laptop was damaged maybe it wasn't. Any and all of this could be true but that's besides the point and honestly, none of my fault. Perfect example: he said he would phone me by 5:30PM if he could get my computer to work and if he couldn't I could come get it. Its been three weeks since that day and I am just picking it up now. I get that things happen, totally. But the customer is not at fault for your business woes. Even now I am sitting in my hot car waiting for him to show up so I can pick up my expensive paperweight. I am self employed and have been trying to do all of my work from my phone which has been a nightmare. Had I known this was going to take two months and I would come out of it with a broken laptop...i would have just bought a new one two months ago. I needed my laptop repaired and have no car at the moment so I was very pleased to find Bit by Bit in Cambrian Heights NW had opened a block away. They were very friendly and welcoming and even let me bring my dog into their shop. They repaired it very quickly and when I picked it up they sanitized it in front of me. They thoroughly explained what the problem was and I thought the price was very fair. I need a battery and was pleased to find out they can order one for me at a competitive price. 7/11/2014 I'm going to try to be as fair as I can be with this review. I dropped my laptop on Monday morning around 8AM on carpet and ran a diagnostic that said I had a hard drive failure. I found this shop on Yelp so I went there at 9:30. Walking into the shop, it is very cluttered and there's literally computer parts and disassembled computers right as you walk into the reception area. He admitted there was a flood in his shop (his landlord's fault according to him). I asked him if customer products were damaged and he said oh yeah definitely. I can only imagine how much other customers' stuff were ruined. I told him what happened. He said he doesn't charge for evaluations and we walked away with a work order. Then began what became a nightmarish ordeal. So he had my laptop all week and we tried calling about 4 times throughout the week and left some messages. Nobody answered the call and no call backs. He called us once on Wednesday to tell us that he was going to put in a new hard drive and transfer the data. That was fine with us. We stopped by their shop on Thursday at 9:45 AM - the place is closed with no one there even though their sign says open at 9 AM. I get a call on Thursday around 4 PM (he's had the laptop for 4 full days now) to tell us that he tried putting the hard drive in the freezer overnight and that did not work so he would try the freezer again. This sounded like some kind of home grown technique to me so I called a few (about 4) different data recovery companies and they all said this is something people used to do in their homes 10 years ago because they thought it worked. It's been proven that not only does it not work, but it causes damage to modern hard drives. I immediately drove over to get my laptop back and he handed it back to me and told me my hard drive was back in my computre. I got my laptop back but he left his Windows 7 Home CD in my drive. We gave it back when we found it. He told us that our hard drive was severely damaged because it had fractures all throughout it. Anyway, the next day we went to a data recovery specialist who took a look at it. He explained that our drive was not fractured at all, but there was no physical damage to it. Not only that, he said the technician tried to read/write data in our hard drive and damaged the partitions in the hard drive. The proper way to handle that is to copy data onto another drive and read it from there so no further damage is caused. Basically, he caused WAY MORE DAMAGE than the original problem. He took a look at the hard drive and said that John (from Bit by Bit) switched out the hard drives because the manufacturing date of the one that was in my laptop was June 2014. Which is impossible since I bought my laptop in May 2013. Obviously, he switched out my hard drive whether by accident or deliberately (to cover some tracks) remains to be seen. We are waiting outside of his shop for him to open as we speak to get my hard drive back. Overall, this doesn't seem to be at all professional and very sketchy! I will post any updates as they happen. -----update - we did get our hard drive back, so I don't think it was deliberate.. It seems to be just a mistake. But if you ask me, that's a pretty serious mistake since I have private data on my hard drive. I just wish John told me he wasn't able to fix it and be honest from the get go instead of wasting my 4 days. Not good. read more

Boy did we have a virus. In fact both our computers did. They bypassed our anti virus progams and screwed things up. John saved the day. He worked quickly and did a great job, keeping all costs in check. This is beyond good service. If I could give him 6 stars I would. read more

Fast efficient service. He doesn't charge for what he can't fix, even though that is so unfair to him. He even took extra time to get my new computer up and running when I was sold a computer different than I had asked for (at a different shop). Very trustworthy and capable. read more

I would never go back here again. I hade my computer that I bought from them in there to get fixed again and it sat on the floor for over a week with them telling me it will be ready the next day. So I want in one day and sat in the chair and told them I'm not leaving till it's fixed. The computer they sold was so bad and he told me it was a good computer and that I got a sweet deal on it. I hade taking it to Apple to get fixed the right way and they told me it was 10 years old and not worth the price I payed. I would not recommend anyone to this place. I want in one day and the guy at the dask was on a dating site looking for a date then one time I want in and some guy was yelling at the owner about not paying him and I was like my time to leave. So if you are going to do Benssines with them look to make sure your getting what you pay for. read more

I've been nothing but disappointed in these guys thus far. Took in my laptop to be fixed, already knew what the problem was (bad power port on the motherboard) and was told I'd get a call in a couple days. Waited 2 weeks before going in on a Tuesday and was told it would be ready Thursday. Went in a week later on the following Tuesday and was told to wait a minute while they check. An hour later of sitting around with no updates and they finally say it'll be another 2-3 hours. Very poor service. Especially having me sit around for an hour while they figure things out. I put one star because there are no negative ones! To start with, this was a good place, and I continually took my computer here. The owner who was like a grandpa figure, helped me out as a single mom and took little to no payment. I thought I struck a great relationship there and was happy. Earlier this year, I took in my computer that would no longer turn on to him. He generally took a matter of days to fix it, so when I hadn't heard back for a bit, I called. He told me someone else was working on it and hadn't looked at it yet. That was odd. So, it was over a week, going on to two, and no success in contacting, I finally got a call saying there was good news and bad. The bad being the shop was broken in to, good apparently is that I get a new one through insurance! How's any of that good when all your private details, your pictures of kids etc are gone forever? So, he took my details of the computer, and I was secure I would hear more. With attempts to contact not successful, he finally answered the phone, and told me it took some time with police reviewing the footage etc. The last call I made, I was told to text him?? Why do I need to text you?! Never again has he answered. Months later, I contacted the police to make sure this was even legit. Mind you at this point, I obviously had to get a new computer with my own money. Not easy when you're a complete single mom with no dad in the pic ever. The police didn't even contact me back, so I thought it was all bogus! Finally got a call from a con stable who's also had trouble having the guy answer. Also, contrary to what the guy told me, he didn't submit the footage to him. This is serious now, and if I'm not the only one, then what is everyone else dealing with?! I believe this was in March 2016, it's now September and the Constable again had said he's made several attempts to contact with no success and now the case will be closed because of no footage. So, he's gotten away with it! Or has he? I can take him to court, and I have many reporter friends in major market stations. I've already reached out to one friend, and now writing this. I attempted contact today on September 3, 2016. His mail box is full! Go figure. The guy also isn't even in his shop as the police said. I've texted him, and now I have to waste my time on this sad excuse of a man who was a sweet guy to my baby and helped me out all the time. The ultimate betrayal! I feel sorry for all others this happened to as well. Now I see they have a new website, perhaps our insurance money went to pay for all of that? Never take your computer here! You may not get it back. Always back up your pictures and important info also. This makes me sick that someone would do this to a single mom who fell on hard times.l read more

I would look for another computer repair place rather than use this one. The service is atrocious! Owner does not return calls & does not get computers fixed. It's been over a year trying to get a computer that was supposed to have been fixed, then replaced. This guy should shut his doors & go work somewhere where he can't rip people off. read more

I have known the owner John for 4 or 5 years now and he is a handy walking distance from my home. John is always helpful and very knowledgeable when ever he is not too busy being run off of his feet. This says much about his business as he gives a good service for a very reasonable rate and is in demand. Yes he may have disappointed some and has had trouble with past employees who were not the most trustworthy or competent. John likes to give the oppressed and underprivileged a chance when it comes to hiring help. This is a refection of his Christian beliefs and background, being a Costa rica immigrant himself. read more

I took my laptop there because I was having an issue with my screen. I was told they could fix it so I left it there. Just over two weeks went by and I was leaving for work the next week so I called. I was told that they were working on it and it would be done the next day. I waited a few days and called again. I was told that it only needed to be put together but the guy working on it went to lunch. Three weeks adter I gave it to them I went there to see the progress and found it was still in peices. Another person took it and told me an hour. Two hours later and go back to find he had now left bec ause he needed a part for it. When I asked what the issue was and when they thought they would be done I was told they would call me. I'm now on week four and have to leave without it. No update yet and waiting to see if they are as honest with the quote they gave me as they are with when it will be done. read more
