Luckily we came on slow day and there wasnt any tasting going on so they were willing to accomodate us. Since it was just us, it was a very personal tasting experience and we ended up coming home with a couple of bottles. We knew that this was one of the most renouned Chateau's based on the fact that it was mentioned a few times in the TV show Frasier. I did also notice that the airport had a couple of bottles from the estate for sale but didnt look to see the price or which vintage. At the chateau they have a few vintages for sale so depending on your price point you could get certain years that were better than others. I guess will see if we ever open it or decide to sell it later if the price skyrockets.

Luckily while eating at a restaurant for a special dinner, the sommelier informs us that one of the other patrons has left them a bottle of 1986 Chareau Haut Brion and would like to share some with us. Holy moly! I dont know who this patron is but they can just afford to leave Haut Brion laying around? So we split a glass and it's certainly one of the more amazing wines I've ever tried. Earthiness and complexity in both the nose and palate are incredible. Im not sure Im wine educated enough to really describe whats truly going on. What is important is I like it and it's fantastic. I shouldnt get too attached though, it might be cheaper to have a drug habit

I'm writing this review in English rather than French because I feel that it will be more relevant…read moreto non-French speakers. I visited Point Rouge tonight with three friends: two of us were British and two were American. The food and wine were both delicious, beautiful, and beyond reproach. However, the service failed to meet the standards the kitchen had established. Although the restaurant was far from full on a Monday night, we consistently waited much longer than every other table for every course, every glass of water, and every drop of wine. Determined to enjoy ourselves anyway, we watched several tables order crêpes Suzette, which were prepared tableside with great pageantry (several diners videoed the preduction), so we ordered them, too. But we were the only table who had our crêpes delivered cold without the tableside drama. I took one frosty bite and retired my fork, and when the waiter asked if there was something wrong with my crêpes, I told him I was disappointed not to have had them prepared tableside. He laughed and took my plate away. We were all charged full price anyway, and I might just mention here that the bill for four of us totaled €288. I am very sorry not to be able to recommend a restaurant with such wonderful food, but of course inferior service can destroy any meal. I cannot prove that the service we received was related that we weren't French, but by the time we left, it certainly felt that way. I might also mention that the toilets are quite...unusual. The doors are clear glass until you enter and lock the door, when they become opaque. However, there is no sign or other indicator that this will happen, so it looks for all the world as though you will be using the toilet in full view of everyone who walks by. I found this to be a very odd, almost cruel, décor decision.

The restaurant was hip, trendy, and had a gorgeous bar. It was probably the largest cocktail menu I have ever seen. I think there were close to 200 drinks and they were delicious. W

(Last visited 7/8/2021.) Working in Bordeaux for a couple of weeks and it's been a dream of mine to…read moreeat at a Michelin Star restaurant. If you don't know what a Michelin Star restaurant is... it's a restaurant that has achieved one of the highest ratings in the world. So much has to happen in order to be awarded a star. Imagine if there were an illuminati and they gave out awards to the best restaurants in the world. That's how it works. Lol. There are 3 levels to the Michelin Star... 1 star, 2 stars and 3 stars which are the best of the best. These stars also have to be won EVERY year. You don't just get the star and keep it. You gotta maintain that status. So, being in Europe, this place is FLOODED with them because this is where the Michelin Star game started. So, I did some research and found this relatively affordable place (for lunch) and decided to pull the trigger. Here's what happened... Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right off of 62 Rue Abbé de l'Epée is this masterpiece. There's no parking lot or anything like that, so good luck finding a garage nearby or risking it all with street parking in France. Lol. Once inside you're greeted by lots of natural light, shelves of wine and just a homey feel. It makes you feel like you walked into someone's home and that's very comforting. Once past the wine area you walk right in front of the kitchen where you can see the wizards of Garopapilles performing their spells to get things to taste like they did. Then you're greeted by about 4 to 6 tables, depending on the reservations that were made that day. By the way, YOU NEED TO MAKE RESERVATIONS for here or else there simply won't be a table for you. To the right of the dining area is the outdoor area where you can dine on warmer days and it's also the garden where the chef's pick their herbs and greens to perform magic with! Service: Service was exquisite of course. We did the lunchtime pairing and included the wine addition. There were 2 servers running food and taking incredible care of us. They both made sure to explain the dishes we were served and why the wine that was served with it was chosen. It was awesome. Food: Here's the complicated part. Lol. I may not be able to explain all of the dishes to you so I'm going to direct you to the pictures that are posted along with this review. So as I mentioned I did the lunchtime pairing and the dishes are chosen at random. I think that is the coolest thing. Literally, we had NO IDEA what we were going to get served AND, my date was served something different from what I got! So if we cooperated together we had the chance to taste 10 different dishes (if we wanted to share). Lol. It was such an amazing experience. We started with an amuse bouche that was shared between us that consisted of seaweed chips, some other sort of nacho-salsa something-or-other and what looked like wontons. Course 1 was a very light seabass served with a delectable cream sauce. Course 2 was a lobster with artichoke and orange sauce. Such good and light flavors that are balances so well. Course 3 (that didn't really count as a course) was a salmon roe soup that was designed to cleanse the palate. It was deliciously salty and the roe has ZERO fishy taste. I couldn't believe it. They just exploded in your mouth when you bit into them and were incredible. Course 4 was an octopus gnocci that was SO DIFFERENT, but very delicious. The octopus cut like freaking steak. Course 5 started the desserts! We had some sort of ice cream, but I can't remember the flavor, just know it was good! Then finally, some chocolates to round out the lunch. The food here is OUT OF THIS WORLD and it's easy to see understand why this place holds that Michelin Star so proudly. Value: So to do the lunch course with as many as we had that would be €65.00. If you want one less plate it'll only be €45.00. This is a lot of money for lunch. Oh, by the way all those prices were per person. Again, it's a lot for lunch, but it's cheaper than the dinner portion. Lol. You wouldn't do this everyday... but maybe if you're a baller you would, but I wouldn't. It's a good treat and it's worth treating yourself to experience what the upper echelon of food is like. In conclusion... I'm sad. I was visiting the website to gather information for this review and the front page of the restaurant is an open letter to us saying this place is closing and a podcast to listen to explaining it. This stinks, but I wish them the best in their next endeavor. You will forever be in my heart as my first Michelin Star restaurant. While the venue has an informal, laid back feel, the menu has a very broad cross-section of delicious cuisine, and everything we tried was not only delicious, but beautifully presented as well :-) After a spot-on consultation with our server we chose the tasting menu and were delighted with all the chef's choices. To compliment the menu, the sommelier offered (and we accepted) some perfect pairing recommendations. Dining outdoors (right be the herb garden) we enjoyed a leisurely meal, with each course more delicious than the next and the wines perfectly complimenting the flavors of our food. Service was flawless and woneerfully paced; I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy a five-star experience!
