They have this non-sushi sushi on the menu but we opted for the house made foie and the jambon and were completely stuffed. I visited Point Rouge tonight with three friends: two of us were British and two were American. The food and wine were both delicious, beautiful, and beyond reproach. However, the service failed to meet the standards the kitchen had established. Although the restaurant was far from full on a Monday night, we consistently waited much longer than every other table for every course, every glass of water, and every drop of wine. Determined to enjoy ourselves anyway, we watched several tables order crêpes Suzette, which were prepared tableside with great pageantry (several diners videoed the preduction), so we ordered them, too. But we were the only table who had our crêpes delivered cold without the tableside drama. I took one frosty bite and retired my fork, and when the waiter asked if there was something wrong with my crêpes, I told him I was disappointed not to have had them prepared tableside. He laughed and took my plate away. We were all charged full price anyway, and I might just mention here that the bill for four of us totaled €288. I am very sorry not to be able to recommend a restaurant with such wonderful food, but of course inferior service can destroy any meal. I cannot prove that the service we received was related that we weren't French, but by the time we left, it certainly felt that way. I might also mention that the toilets are quite...unusual. The doors are clear glass until you enter and lock the door, when they become opaque. However, there is no sign or other indicator that this will happen, so it looks for all the world as though you will be using the toilet in full view of everyone who walks by. I found this to be a very odd, almost cruel, décor decision.

The restaurant was hip, trendy, and had a gorgeous bar. It was probably the largest cocktail menu I have ever seen. I think there were close to 200 drinks and they were delicious. W

Great, I have a new restaurant préféré...I just need to fly/SNCF for about 8 hours to get there…read more Whilst ambling around on my birthday I was looking for somewhere to check out seeing as how I had no internet connection. Yelp in beta mode I suppose. En tout cas, I was thrilled to find a jam-packed little wine bar with a simple and effective menu of assorted tartines and a couple of séléctions des plats principaux. Nobody even referred to me as a "cousin"! There were two spots at the bar (Sunday night!) and otherwise all of the spaces were taken. Pour commencer, j'ai pris un verre de Bordeaux (when in Bordeaux...) which was at the server's choice...a nice little Médoc from not too far. Foodwise, I opted for the tartines so as to get as much variety as possible for one person without being wasteful. I had a good list of choices (7 or 8 at least) but I took the beef carpaccio, cabecou, and of course, fois gras. As a former vegetarian (7ish years) and also former vegan (one of those years), I get a strange and perverse pleasure from ordering fois gras. In any case the three were served simply enough on a nice and toasted dark whole grain bread. The carpaccio was pretty nice and simple; cut fine and lightly seasoned with a bit of black pepper. My second choice, the cabecou (a mystery at the time of ordering, I gotta admit) was as delicious as what I would have expected given that it's a simple chèvre from the neighbouring midi-Pyrenees The honey that adorned it was subtle and added a nice bit of sweet to the overall experience. Ô fois. Fois gras in Bordeaux. Fois gras warmed on a toast at le Chabrot, merci. Merci for ruining fois gras for me! I tried at least 4 or 5 different fois gras whilst in France for this last stint and none of them were as perfectly rich and decadent to gobble away...taking brief breaks to cackle and slurp down more wine. Lastly, and feeling a bit stuffed from the openers, I moved onto a main of Duck magret parmentier. Meat and potatoes. Hard to go wrong, and of course the kitchen crew at Le Chabrot treated this oh so right. The duck was nice and moist and the potatoes lightly salted to make for a simple yet knockout delicious little meal. Since everything is so rich, I actually ended up taking the rest home in a little doggy bag and munched on it as quite possibly the best midnight snack that I could imagine. So overall, great ambiance, not too loud (I actually read at the bar when not staring at the pork leg within close proximity), and a complete bouchgasm. I have a real compelling reason to make the commute!
