Initially I had written a positive review upon check in at Hotel Burdigala. Unfortunately the stay was horrible after that. They have a fire alarm system that goes off in the middle of the night. They are well aware of the issue, as you can read about on TripAdvisor, but now claim it is people smoking in their room which it clearly is not. The air conditioning was not working well. When I brought it up the first day of my 6 night stay they front desk said "you Americans like it colder than Europeans". I found that rude and odd since the lobby was very well air conditioned, as was my friends hotel room on the floor above me. So clearly it was possible to have a well air conditioned room, just not my room. I attempted several times to get them to fix it. On the 4th night the staff came to my room, turned the thermostat up and said it would help. It didn't. 6 nights of being uncomfortably hot, with fire alarms going off 3 out of the 6 nights at 2:00 a.m and 4:00 a.m. It was a miserable stay. When I checked out they offered a ridiculous $20 credit for 6 sleepless nights at their hotel that charged hundreds of Euro a night. While the hotel looks nice at first glance, it isn't. The breakfast staff in the morning milled around talking among themselves while the guests struggled trying to operate their coffee machines and get the staffs attention to take breakfast orders. There were plenty of staff who could have provided drinks as most hotels do or made a better effort to assist, but they were all just standing around each of the 5 mornings I was there. This hotel staff has no idea what customer service is and needs additional training. This is not a 4 star hotel, as other reviewers have mentioned. It was an expensive mistake that destroyed my trip. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more
