This is a 3 star hotel..nice rooms, and a very good breakfast buffet (you have to book with and pay extra for the 'free breakfast' option to get it - or it costs 17Eu for breakfast).
Unlike several other experiences we had in France with hospitality staff being not very helpful, the staff here was very nice and spontaneously helpful when we needed it. All the front desk folks spoke English freely (unlike other places in France, where they pretend not to know, and then reluctantly speak English)...which was very refreshing. They would even volunteer information that they thought we'd need.
2 drawbacks that we found - taxis are not easily available, and this hotel's location is just outside of the best 'toursisty' places in town. If you want to explore the town on foot, you will have a short walk.
There is a taxi stand just outside the hotel, but it is always empty, so if you need a taxi in a hurry, you cant get one (wait 15m for it be called)....so if you are in a hurry, you are out of luck.
The touristy part of town is just a little distant, due east of here...the river is 1.5km due east of the hotel entrance. This hotel is next to an ugly concrete mall, and the surroundings are not very picturesque at all. You can walk to the beautiful old part of town in a few minutes, but I felt that we would have had a better experience if we had stayed in the many hotels right in the old city - we saw a few others that were 3 star in the old city, and were similarly priced, during our explorations.
This hotel seems to be loved by big tour groups (Chinese, Japanese), who come in a big bus, and then are bused out to do their sightseeing, and dont really have to care about exploring the city on foot.
The hotel had air conditioning that actually worked - another pleasant surprise given our experiences in other hotels. read more
