Though I'm located much closer to the Bishops Cuts/Color downtown SJ, I had a really good highlights session here a year ago, and needless to say I'm glad I came back. In sum, the staff is super friendly and Harry is AWESOME! I'm mixed and have fine curly hair and he took extra good care of them! In the past at other salons when I got color they would wash my hair, comb it out with the wrong brush and blow dry it with hot air. But here Harry has experience working with textured hair and not only did he care for my hair the right way but he also took his time to add product and style it after the wash which I genuinely appreciate. read more

I come here every couple of months to get my split ends taken care of. Great location in downtown campbell next to manresa and a parking structure nearby if you drive in. Arynn always does a fantastic job with my hair and we have great conversations about our cats! She also recommended me hair products based on my hair type. Also just a few weeks ago I took my son, who is 4 and is high functioning Autistic, to get a trim from Arynn. He only has had one hair cut due to having a bad experience from one of the kid haircut places. I have had much anxiety about getting his haircut since then but, Arynn and Bishops has made the experience so much better this time around. Arynn was very patient with him and everyone who was working was also so understanding about his sudden out burst. They would even try to help distract him to keep him calm enough to get through the haircut. Just the whole experience and being able to walk out of the shop with my son happy instead of sad or upset, is one of the main reason why I love coming to this shop. Headed in today to have Luis cover up my grey's. He is super nice and did an amazing job. Went to him last week for a cut and he took the time to explain and help with my very damaged hair. He did an outstanding job. He is going to be my go to from now on. Thanks Luis! Love that they have you fill out a health questionnaire, take your temperature, and wash your hands before they start. He then washed his hands after I did and got started. They are all masked and I was able to observe them cleaning after clients. You guys are great! read more

I don't usually write reviews, but I really have the urge to do so this time. I was able to make a reservation on a Saturday morning for 2 pm on the same day. I didn't know any stylist from the salon, so I chose "Anyone" for the option at which you can choose a particular stylist. The system chose Arynn, and little did I know how nice she is. Arynn sent me texts before our appointment and asked what I have in mind for the highlight (which I was mainly going for). I sent her the picture with the stonebricks background not knowing that Arynn is an achiever! After some back and forth messages, it gradually came to 2 pm. I arrived a bit earlier, but the staff were super friendly. They offered me drinks and kindly asked me to take a seat and wait for Arynn to finish up with her previous customer. The time had come, and I sat in Arynn's chair. She explained her game plan to me as for how we could do my hair -- except both of us forgot the thickness is also a key element to a makeover, so she had to improvise on how we would do this. She listed out everything in detailed prices before we started the process which was $282 without tips. But due to the amount and length of hair I had, she had to use way more dye than we anticipated, so there was an extra $10 added to the cost later. Over the six hours process, Arynn was being super patient and told me every essential step as we were going down the transformation. She patiently hand painted literally EVERYTHING. I felt super sorry but grateful at the same time since I had her doing the same thing over and over again. But the end result is stunning and I absoluately LOVE it. My concerns were heard and I felt comfortable talking to Arynn (even though I was still kinda quiet & awkward). I have gotten so much compliment and am able to challenge a different me because of Arynn and her work. I would definitely go back and recommend not only Arynn, but Bishops itself. The staff took care of me and my boyfriend (who was just waiting there for me) by often offering drinks or asking if we needed anything. It was an amazing experience. Two things: - I noticed that while Jaclyn (the hairdresser who was assigned to cut my hair at the time) was talking to another staff member (don't know their name, unfortunately) to explain to her what how I wanted my hair cut, I noticed that when they used "she" in reference to me at first but then changed it to "they" before resuming what they were saying originally and it was small, but as a non-binary customer of this establishment, I *noticed* that. And I appreciated that. I wasn't even wearing any pronoun pins at the time, either, so to have a stranger assume that I was non-binary just by looking at me *absolutely* made my day. I also appreciated the LGBT sticker and the "safe space" crochet(?) sign in the window! - I was having some trouble describing how I wanted my hair cut so I appreciate that Jaclyn was patient with me, but I promise before the next time I come in I will try to figure out the right words to describe how I want it cut. - 10/10 will keep coming here for my haircut needs read more

I got my keratin done from BISHOP CAMPBELL recently from Tania. I had henna on my hair and wanted to get both color and keratin done but Tania refused to do my coloring and said that she was not comfortable in coloring my hair since i have henna. But she agreed to do keratin. After treatment was done she asked me wash my hair after 72hrs. After washing there was not even 1% difference in my hair(please find images attached).  When i called to discuss the same, the manager started trashing me and was extremely rude. It was my sister's wedding and this is what happened to me. Guys plz beware of this place. Please don't go and waste your time and money on this salon and such terrible people. read more

I was immediately greeted when I walked in with a smile, an instant welcome just like that...couldn't help but smile back! Good vibes up in there. As soon as I was taken care of at front desk, it wasn't but ten minutes before Luis came over to greet me and walk me to the chair. He definitely knows how to connect from the very beginning, and he listened to every word I said about the cut that I wanted...and it turned out great! I love my haircut . I have gotten my haircut from Luis in the past and one thing I would love to share here is that Luis is also an educator. I didn't know anything about styling my hair and using products, he educated me on how to use different kinds of products depending on hair type and what I was going for. Also, he showed me how to style my hair in different ways...you could say that suddenly I have become a pro on styling my hair with products now . I normally don't write reviews but every time I look at my hair I'm frustrated. Came in with a bob haircut and wanting two block hair (top left long, bottom and sides shaven. you can Google it lol). I was looking forward to getting my hair cut after a long time but I don't think I'll be coming back here. I wanted to specify the key points of the haircut first but she interrupted me asking if I had pictures, which I did. Showed her the pictures and she seemed like she got it, but after this haircut I guess she only sorta got it. I usually enjoy having my hair cut. It's relaxing to hear the snipping, feel the weight come off, vibe to some music. However, not only did she talk nearly the whole time (aren't you going to focus on y'know... cutting my hair?) but she came off as insensitive: she kept talking about how her siblings got covid but were fine and how her grandma has been "ready to go" for a while and actually wanted to get covid. So thanks for reminding me about how my own grandma died a couple years ago. And what if I had been someone who lost someone to covid; would this be an appropriate thing to talk about with a client you've just met? Not only that but could you just focus on getting my hair right? It felt like she did everything roughly. She combed my hair so roughly that my mask AND my cartilage piercing came off. That's never happened to me before. Also she was wearing a mesh rhinestone mask, so anyone who isn't fully vaccinated should beware of this place. By the end, I had to ask for my hair to be shorter, and I swear she seemed frustrated. Though she did end up doing it. I wanted to ask for her to shave off more of the bottom half (two block hair, remember? that's the point of the hairstyle and what I was trying to describe before I was interrupted + what the pictures showed) but I was already cutting into the next appointment and she seemed frustrated so I felt bad. Speaking of which, the appointments are back to back, which just seems more stressful for the hairdresser. Ended up with a haircut that wasn't entirely what I wanted, which would have been alright if it had been a $25 haircut. For a ~$50 haircut I would expect 1) more time so the hairdresser could take more care in cutting my hair 2) more professional behavior 3) have the actual haircut I wanted. On the bright side, it is indeed better than what I came in with + what I could have done on my own. It's not a bad haircut per se, just not what I wanted plus a less than pleasant experience + high price. read more

Finally decided to branch out beyond Supercuts to see what an actual, well-styled haircut was like and chose Bishops on a hopeful whim. Their website is quite professional and well-thought out with the option to select your stylist & a check-in time; especially useful is their price estimate feature which varies based on whether you're getting a short or long cut (they have helpful descriptors on what constitutes a "short" or "long" haircut which is great for the hairstyle-challenged such as myself!). Anyways, to the actual visit. I was very impressed with their way of doing business - from the outset I could see that they emphasize making the customer comfortable, at home and relaxed AF (though I would say they tailor this experience mainly to millennials like myself - older generations are likely to feel a bit thrown off by the atmosphere). My stylist was Monique (sorry for the late review :P!!), who was incredibly friendly, polite and handled my fumbling attempts to describe the style I wanted with respect and skill. To sum it up, she did a damn good job! If it's your first time at Bishops and she's there, you can rest assured she'll give you a solid cut. Side note: BEER. IS. OFFERED. I was offered beer, at least. And it wasn't your typical piss beer - we're talking IPA. Shame on me for forgetting to drink it. read more

On Sunday, I dropped in to Bishop's salon during the Farmer's Market to see if they were available for a free consultation. My husband gets haircuts from Bishop's and mentioned that they do highlights, so I decided to check them out. I consulted Monique with a photo of my inspiration hair color. Luckily, she was available and she offered to color my hair right after consultation. Throughout the whole coloring process, she kept checking up on me to see if I needed to stretch my legs (So sweet! She was the one who was working so hard and standing for hours, so I felt like she should have had a rest break). The part that I really liked is that she kept asking questions about me and shared stories about her (as opposed to other stylists who complain about their other clients, which tends to be kind of awkward). Monique is not like that at all--she is very kind and professional! Excellent at building rapport! 7 hours later, my hair transformed into a different color. It was a lot brighter than I had anticipated from my inspiration photo. She assured me that when the hair is wet, the hair color looks different. Makes sense, so I paid and went home. Next morning, my hair was completely dry and the hair color was still too bright (brassy as opposed to cool tones). TBH, I wasn't sure what to do. Monique is super sweet and hardworking, who spent 7 hours on my hair so I felt bad coming back and have her work more hours on my hair. Although, in the hours that I spent talking with her, she was always kind and respectful. So, I decided to come back because I really liked working with her. When I saw her in the salon, we talked about cooler tones to better match my inspiration photo. Again, she was super sweet and understanding. Although, she had just gotten off her shift, so I got to work with Aileen, who also has an amazing personality! She ensured that because I came back within a week (literally the next day, lol!) she could tone my hair for free. Bottom line: I highly recommend Bishops Campbell. Monique, a long time hair stylist of mine, was so shocked I wanted to chop my hair because I hardly chop it that short. She convinced me it was still viable and not as dead as I presumed. My last hairdresser did a great job but even then it was still hard to see how "boring" my hair looked. Went in with a reference picture where her hair was medium length with lots of long layers and face framing. Ended up with hair barely below my shoulders (used to be near the middle of my back) and barely any layers :/ Even agreed on where she was going to cut which was about 3 inches below my shoulders and then she moved to the back where i could feel her cutting my hair above my shoulders so I knew there was no stopping and fixing. read more

They cut my hair so blunt it literally looked like I was a poodle with ears. I had my hair in two lengths. The lady kept asking everyone for help which was so unprofessional. If you don't know how to preform a certain haircut don't act like you do. I left with a completely different hair then I wanted and I rather have just kept my hair how it was. I was lucky someone tried to fix it but there was no helping the horrible mess they created. Very friendly guy and rather knowledgeable on different textures and style. I decided to give Bishops a shot and actually was very pleased with the service I received. I had the worst service from bishops today. I went in for a hair coloring. He couldn't give me the exact price. He said it depends on what I want done. At first he said $85. Then he said $95. Then he said $135. I said that was too expensive for a single color. Then another girl in the shop said I do this all the time. I would book an appointment and back out. I have not seen her before. And booking an appointment, and backing out is not my ideal way to spend my time. What kind of service is this? The guy that was going to color my hair was Ray. The woman that was not pleasant is an Asian woman on the heavy side. Tina the person that I always go to is good. But everyone else there has attitudes like they don't want to do this as a job. I really wanted to like this place because of the rave reviews and the Bishops in Downtown SJ was all booked out. I needed a haircut done for an important event so I was glad they had a spot for me. Everyone at the salon was friendly, so far so good. It's been a month since my haircut so I had time to really reflect. I got a haircut from a hairdresser name starting with an R, he was very nice but what worried me was that he did a huge snip on my bangs in the middle of my forehead, when I asked for curtain bangs starting at my cheekbone. I decided to trust the process and my hair turned out really choppy in the end. I didn't realize it until I got home. What was upsetting was the haircut took 15 minutes and my hair was mid length and there was no checking if my hair was even. My previous salon in another state took at least 40 minutes to cut my hair. I was really disappointed, I went to my event with choppy and uncomfortable hair. When I realized the issue, I contacted Bishops and they were so helpful and offered to have the store manager, Aileen, fix my hair. I had to wait 2 weeks because I was not in town. She did a good job but my bangs were so uneven it couldn't be fixed. The reason why I'm writing this review is because I'm bummed with the experience and my bangs are still so choppy and will take a while to grow out. Next time I go to a Bishop's salon I will ask for the salon manager just in case. read more

My partner went in for a haircut and wasn't even able to sit down or fully check-in before they were rudely turned down by Trenton (who the appointment was made with) and told "I can't do your hair. I'm a barber". My partner has gone to a barber many times before with no problem. They wanted to switch things up and try a new place and the haircut they wanted was very possible for a barber to do but if you're not skilled enough to cut Asian hair, then just say so.
