"I can't wait to come back here." - my father, after our lunch here…read more Saw signs promoting Mirchi popping up in the area and I figured I'd try them out. Came in for lunch with my dad and we loved everything about it. The inside has a classy ambiance with plenty of tables and a full bar. We were the first customers, but the place filled up shortly after. I'm of European descent, but I take it as a good sign for a place like this when pretty much all the other clientele appeared to be South Asian. They started us off with a complimentary papadum basket with cilantro-mint chutney and tamarind sauces. Delightful. We ordered two appetizers: Vegetable pakora and chili pepper paneer. The vegetable pakora was interesting. I'm used to a mix of veggies fried in their own way, but these were fritters that seemed to be a mix of onion, potato, and I think zucchini. It worked, especially with the chutneys to top it off. The sizzling paneer was also great - nice and crispy crust with a perfect spicy glaze. I'd get either of these again. For the mains, we got Chicken Korma and Malai Kofta. When our waiter asked for our spice preference, we both said medium. I think medium was perfect, even though I'm used to a mild Malai Kofta. I think it was my father's upper spice limit, but he loved his Korma. Both sauces were easy to mop up with some butter naan. Even a simple cup of masala tea was memorable - perfect amount of spices and milk to mellow them out. Would drink this again. Our waiter was attentive but gave us space to enjoy the meal and each other's company without frequent interruption. According to our waiter, they have lunch buffets on the weekend only. He added that Sunday is the bigger day of the two. Maybe I'll come back one of those days to sample more of the variety of offerings. Wouldn't change a thing. Great experience. Definitely recommend.

It is certainly the best restaurant in Catonsville, and you won't have to pay $50 for one dish (like you would at say Beaumont). We have like 10 favorite things on the menu--I just tried 2 new dishes last night--and now maybe that number is up to 12. You basically can't have a bad order, the food is absolutely delicious. If you like spicy food and ask for spicy, they will actually make it spicy which is SO nice. (Usually when I ask for spicy and emphasize SPICY anywhere I go, I get a mega mellow spiced dish and it's hugely disappointing). My top orders are chicken xacuti, kerala fish curry, kashmiri naan, mixed spicy pickles, and malai kofta. Oh, and kheer (so good). I love it all. Not only is the food phenomenal, the ambiance and service is top notch. The dining room is absolutely gorgeous and spotless. The front of house staff wears button up shirts and dress pants. There are fresh flowers (and if I remember correctly, candles) on the tables. There are beautiful murals painted on the walls. It's absolutely romantic. And! Cherry on top: it's BYO, so you can bring your own bottle of wine. Absolutely a gem on Frederick Rd.

Solid variety of options, not too expensive, and very local to me…read more I tried this spot for the first time after craving some Indian food. I've seen this spot when driving in Catonsville and have been meaning to test it out. I ordered some veggie samosas and saag paneer (spinach sauce with cheese chunks). The samosas were very good, a little spicy, and came with a green and brown sauce. The saag paneer wasn't my favorite, it was very concentrated and the spinach flavor was incredibly overwhelming. It was bitter and I had to stop eating it. When I ate the second portion, I added some heavy cream to lighten up the flavor and it was a little bit better, but I've had better saag paneer. I would try this spot again, especially since it's so close.

The restaurant is in the back of the building and has a few tables. I'm not sure if it's a sit-down and order type of place, but I ordered at the counter and also picked up my food at said counter. I had stopped for gas and saw the Indian place was just opening for the day. I wanted to try something from this place, even though I already had lunch plans. So I ordered a little snack of Papdi Chaat (as people affectionately call it the Indian nachos). It was refreshing and flavorful. Pretty hearty for a small treat. I am looking forward to going back and trying more dishes.

It was recommended by a friend--otherwise, we'd have never crossed paths. A must-try for Gujarati street food! We ordered the Gujarati thali and loved it. The chapatis were incredibly soft, and the bhindi and gawar fali were absolutely delicious. I just wish there was a bit more kadhi or gravy to go with the rice--to help balance out the carb load (I know, it's a lot to ask!). We also tried the dhokla, which was excellent--light, fluffy, and flavorful. Will definitely order that again. Ended up getting khichdi and eggplant curry to go, and I'm really looking forward to trying those. Next on the list: some of their fried savory snacks! Bonus: They also serve Indian-Chinese and Punjabi food if you're in the mood for something different. A warm, comforting meal that truly feels like home-cooked food--definitely worth a visit! Note: I would've loved to see the kitchen open--it's always comforting in small places like this.

The decor is so pretty, with a ceiling of fairy lights and leaves. Even their plates are gorgeous! My sister and I ordered their rose pina coladas (one with alcohol and one without). They were both SO sweet and I honestly couldn't tell which one had the alcohol. We also ordered their samosas, which came two in an order. The chutneys that came with the samosas were insanely good, and the samosas themselves weren't too spicy. After the appetizer, we decided to split a small butter chicken entree and garlic naan. The butter chicken was more tangy in flavor than most others I have tried, but not bad at all. The garlic naan was buttery and delicious. Between the two of us, the small entree was enough to feed us that night as well as have leftovers to take home. Although it felt like we ordered very few items (two drinks, one appetizer, one small entree, one side of bread), the total came out to nearly $80 with tip!! I like this place for a more elevated sit down experience, but the price was a bit high to justify coming here more often.

When I picked up the order and started eating it, it was extremely spicy to the point where I could visibly see all the spice in it. It was completely inedible for me. I called the restaurant politely just to let them know there may have been a mistake because I know for a fact I ordered mild. I even double checked while placing the order because this is something I always order the same way. Instead of trying to help, the guy on the phone kept insisting that I ordered spicy. That made absolutely no sense because why would I intentionally order food I literally cannot eat? I have no tolerance for spice at all. What made it worse was how dismissive and rude the conversation became. He kept saying things like "I heard you correctly" and blamed it on two orders coming in at the same time. Instead of taking accountability for a simple mistake, he kept trying to argue with me and basically imply I was lying about my own order. I even went back to the restaurant to explain the situation in person, and he still kept insisting that I had ordered the biryani spicy. At that point I was so frustrated that I just threw the food away in the trash right in front of them and left because there was clearly no effort being made to resolve the issue. The frustrating part is this is not even the first issue I've had here. Another time they completely gave me the wrong order but I didn't make a big deal about it because mistakes happen. This time was different because of how poorly the situation was handled and how defensive the employee became instead of trying to resolve it professionally. I've been ordering from here for a while, but after this experience and the customer service I received, I definitely will not be returning.
