The park itself is free admittance and easy to get to as there are several buses which go past it. Its not a large park; more medium sized but there is plenty to keep the little ones happy. It features a boating lake, adventure playground, skateboard park and lots of interesting gardens and flowers and a large playing field. Dogs are welcome too. Lots of wild squirrels to feed in the wooded areas so be sure to take plenty of nuts! Working toilets in the visitors centre which is always an added bonus plus by the boating lake theres a cafe where you can get a drink and snack.

Whilst on dry land the tour takes in Liverpool's historic sights, then splashes down into the Salthouse Dock for a half hour trip of the dockland area, concluding in the Albert Dock. As it seems, all this is obviously pretty overwhelming stuff and fun for kids. I know myself as I have been on it and felt like a big kid! Prices are quite moderate for this trip but you're paying for something a whole lot different.

A strange feature of Liverpool's streets and something that really, in it's surreal, lo-fi charm charm could only belong to this city, the duck tour is a guide around the city centre with a bizarre but functional twist. Whoever had the idea of converting an ex military amphibous vehicle into a method of transporting tourists around Liverpool's streets and docks from the water itself is something of a genius and probably filthy rich right now! Even now years after their first appearance you can still see Scousers' eyes following the big yellow machines as they pass us on the street. The guides must be praised for their total enthusiasm as much as their knowledge because they constantly seem to be upbeat and ready with a joke. Good fun.

Then we realised just how quiet it was around us as a commercial port area. We've toured Europe over the last 6/7 weeks with two weeks cruising Europe and so we've been in a half dozen industrial Spanish, Portuguese and French ports and all of them were really active, and very busy from we arrived until we departed - usually an 8 hour span each time. This deep port terminal was quiet, eerily quiet. No real trade or commerce quiet mid week 8am in a major city. We began to wonder if it's deathly quiet is a result of Brexit as the signs are all around in plain sight - British productivity has fallen through the floor, inflation is toward double figures and recession has arrived. There's no longer a functioning health service yet the government pretends there is opting to spend billions in Ukraine from its money tree, gp's have vanished behind closed and locked doors as they are told there's no money tree so appointments are like getting a golden ticket to Willie Wonka's place and public dentistry has all but disappeared. Two of it's former prime ministers accurately said leaving Europe would make Britain much poorer and they had to lose the battle to be proved right with the super rich and the working poor voting to leave Europe and in doing so have thrown everything away in pursuit of something that's not worth it. It'll be several months at least before we reluctantly pass this way again. By that stage the kamikaze British government may continue acts of self harm and break the international protocol agreement they themselves opted for. If they do then they'll also completely devastate their fishing industries in Scotland and Southern England and do the same to the fishing and diary industries in Northern Ireland and all quite literally overnight. In this likely next step by the government port terminals like this sleepy one will have very little to offer in terms of work. It's so bad here that even the chief government spin doctor an Australian bloke who was the architect of pushing Brexit and was behind the bus poster campaign said this week that they should have stayed in the single market. The bus posters promised millions of pounds annually to their NHS but instead they have it desperately needing life support. Their government couldn't run a bath but at least their spin doctor has a thriving country to go home to.

Close to Hamilton Square, the first station on the Wirral from Liverpool, this is an amazing location that catches the eye of any motorist driving from Birkenhead to the Wallasey Tunnel. As a born and bred scouser the vista from this site never fails to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. There isn't much here besides a tranquil cafe, great for staring out at the perfect panorama, the Liver Birds, the Echo Arena, the Port of Liverpool building or any of the city's new waterfront additions. Sitting there today (30 August) among just a couple of people, it was interesting to wonder just how busy Liverpool was during the Beatles inspired day of the Mathew Street festival. Far removed from the peace and quiet of Woodside. I could quite easily spend a day here with my Canon, but I'd recommend a very wide lens to fit in all Liverpool has to offer.

For a reasonable discount price you get to ride all day and take the Mersey Ferry over to the other side of the river. It's a bargain. Make sure you get the one that has a person do the commentary. Our commentator was Helen and she was an amazing wealth of information and dry humor. She made it more fun with her historical facts.The stops are located throughout the city and allows you to see the highlighted ones that are so popular. They run all day but, stop around 5:00 pm. We forgot and we got left standing out by the Cathedral and had to walk back.

Since we skipped the 50min tour (we were already on a bus tour two days prior), we made it a quick out and back via the commuter ferry times. Going before 9a.m. (or after 5:30 p.m.) will save you in cash and time. The staff both on shore and aboard were extremely helpful and nice. They made the trip seamless, and it's probably 10min one way (10min back). It's too short for seasickness, so it's twice as good. It was an iconic trip (even as brief as it was), and you can do it on the cheap, and TIP: Pay on the other side! Recommend the commuter ferry!

I spent all my holidays in Dyserth as a child, as my grandparents lived in thispicturesque little…read morevillage. The waterfall is an overlooked, magical little place. I used to pretend it was a fairies' dell in the middle of the woods; there is a mini-wood around it. It is situated by a steep road leading between Dyserth and Prestayn, near the crossroads. In the warmer months there is a small cafe and gift shop, even selling postcards of this natural beautyspot. They sell locally made ice cream and gorgeous scones and teas. They're also very friendly, homely people. If you want something more substantial to eat, there is a pub offering meals, literally just across the road. Both premises have a small amount of free parking. It is also worth exploring the church (if my memory serves me correctly, St Bridgets?) and its graveyard, next to the waterfall and opposite the pub. The waterfall itself is magnificent and fascinating. I used to love sitting here being cooled by its spray on hot summer days. Be warned that it can be slippery around here, so keep hold of kids/pets.

Often overlooked by pleasure-seekers en-route to Rhyl's noisy amusement arcades, Dyserth is a…read morelovely and tranquil little place, blessed with a couple of fine pubs, a highly picturesque church and churchyard (check out some of the most unusual tombs and memorials), a good-value cafe with outdoor seating (although presently, as of 2008, the business is up for sale) boasting, for 30p, admission to invigorating views of the beautiful high waterfall which cascades down into a circular pool below. Take the steep steps up through the man-made gorge on the left, and make your way up to the higher ridge for rewarding panoramic views to the coast. If you're nimble on your feet (and incredibly safety-conscious) nip over the wall to take a look further upstream, where you'll find some impressive caves on the left-hand bank. Free, but limited, car-parking is available right next to the church, where you'll also find the public toilets. Don't just drive by the place, stop and take a look.

Hidden beneath…read moreLiverpool ONE is the world's first commercial enclosed wet dock, unearthed in 2001 by archaeological excavations. The portion of the Old Dock on view tells stories from Liverpool's past, not only as an emerging maritime port but also of the engineering feat that it took to build it. If you fancy a revealing glimpse into Liverpool's past, this hour long tour is free to book so you can't really complain! Tours start from the Merseyside Maritime Museum at the Albert Dock and take place on Tuesdays at 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm. Places do tend to fill quickly so it is advised to book in advance.

The Old Dock Experience is very new (opened in May this year) and public tours are only every…read moreTuesday at the minute. Hidden beneath Liverpool ONE the Old Dock was unearthed by developers in 2001. Following this the excavation of the area featured on Channel Four's Time Team programme in 2008. The free tour is so worth it and because it is only every Tuesday it just feels really special. But surely it could be open to the public for more than one day a week? It was really interesting to learn of how important the design of the dock was, how the port prospered but sad that the Old Dock was eventually considered too small to deal with the amount of maritime traffic. Objects found in the dig are on display and a giant screen shows an animated view of how the view out from the dock would have looked in 1715. On the tour I was only able to view the east section of the dock which included a tunnel which is thought to have linked to Liverpool Castle.
