Whether you fall into the resident or visitor category on your trip to Leeds, this visitor centre…read moreis an excellent resource to rely on. The amount of information on offer is staggering, any location or venue of cultural significance is available to take away in leaflet form. I frequently take a detour through the shop so that I can pick up a few current programmes for theatres and art-house cinemas within the area. The entire Yorkshire region is catered for, so any trip can be thoroughly organised with their guidance. The shop also has a range of Yorkshire and Harrogate teas, Grandma Wild's biscuits and other such twee goodies. I am referring to their presence because I have hastily purchased these items on a couple of occasions, ran around to neighbouring Paperchase and successfully presented a relative with a gift, as though it had been wrapped for weeks. This is not advisable, but sometimes unavoidable! Another excellent reason to remember the services of Leeds Visitor Centre is, they are an official vendor of local Ticketmaster events. I am often more popular with some friends and relatives around the end of March, when it is possible to purchase a Leeds Festival weekend ticket without the queues, panic or extortionate booking fees. Their presence in centrally located Leeds train station makes the shop incredibly convenient. With such helpful staff, they are worth investigating if you have lived in Leeds for years, or you are merely visiting for a few days.

There's a stigma attached to visitor centres, tourist information places and for want of a better example, guidebooks, isn't there? "No way man, I don't need a guidebook, I'm a free spirit, let me wander freely," maybe? Well, even if you're a resident of Leeds, the visitor centre can be a handy little place. Tickets, from theatre to Leeds Festival, are available here - free for the most part, of the extortionate booking fees you find at the established online ticket giants. As well, they cover all bases from places to stay, what's on, help with shopping, eating out tips, nightlife recommendations and information on the local sporting clubs. Go have a gander if you're a visitor or not, find out what's going on underneath the surface of our great city!

So I am partial to the delights of a farm shop and Emleys is a cracking place to indulge. First up the shop itself. You'll find high quality fresh veg here. You can't beat real bundles of asparagus, salad that still has dirt on it and rugged vegetables. It's a good place to stock up on your five a day. It is also a great place to stock up on some treats and for that I'm talking Brymor ice cream, yum. On top of the shop it's also got a pleasant farm trail for the children and a lovely pet's corner. Yes I'm back on the animals again! Throw in a gardener's corner and an activity centre complete with bouncy castle and there is enough to keep the little ones entertained whilst you get some fresh goodies. Oh and a donkey. What isn't to like?

For a small price animal feed can be purchased at the farm shop (which also sells a range of produce largely locally produced) to go and feed the animals of various forms that reside on this farm. The are no structure walks around the site so this is somewhere where you have to be engaged and take care of little people that may get nipped or pecked from various creatures. As long as it's not a day like to day (that is absolutely tipping it down with rain) there's a lot that could be got out of a visit here.

First class service from Thomson on this visit. Myself and…read moreAdam Y had spent a couple of weeks deciding where we should go on holiday this August and couldn't come up with any ideas within budget so we wandered around Bolton one day and picked up some brochures from various travel agents. Eventually we resorted back to the internet and just doing any old search with the main search being 'Adult only hotel' - we hate children. We found a 5* hotel within (almost) price budget on the Thomson website, but decided to go in-store to see if they could better it. Of we popped down to the late opening Thomson shop on the Fort shopping park on a Wednesday evening and we were warmly greeted by a young chap who happened to be the manager. He asked us to sit down and explain what we wanted. He searched and unfortunately the price his system was giving him was £250 more than the website. Not to worry he said, he would price match for us and even waiver the admin fee because he could. How nice! However, he was going away in two days so if we wanted it we would need to book with him before Friday to get this deal. We couldn't decide there and then so had a wander around the car park and came to the conclusion that we would only spend the next two days looking on the internet more and only coming back here. So we walked back in and booked it. The young man was very friendly and gave us advise on the resort and travel tips without being patronising as some travel agents can be. I would definitely recommend using Thomson, this one in particular.
