I waited a little longer than usual for my vitals. There was a new girl doing them, ( at least I think she was new, haven't seen her before.) so I can't fault her for that. My phlebotomist was Rachel, she was very nice and professional. I was disconnected by Nick, whom I believe is also a floor supervisor. He was also nice and proficient. On May 2, 2026, I attended the BioLife Plasma location in Livonia, Michigan for a routine plasma donation visit. During the screening process, the employee responsible for obtaining my blood sample did not follow proper protocol. I observed that after cleaning my finger with alcohol, she immediately performed the fingerstick, then immediately collected the blood sample without allowing the alcohol to dry or wiping it away. This can compromise the accuracy of the test, and my hematocrit reading came back significantly low (30), which is inconsistent with my normal health, diet, hydration, and supplementation. I also observed that two donors ahead of me were deferred by this same person for low hematocrit, raising additional concerns about whether proper procedures are consistently followed. When I asked about the testing method and requested a retest, I was told it was not necessary, despite the potential for error. When I brought these concerns to the assistant manager, I was not provided with a satisfactory response. He stated he was the highest authority available at the location, did not offer an apology, and indicated there was little that could be done beyond reminding the employee to follow protocol in the future. He also advised me to submit a complaint through the website, while stating he would be the one receiving it so nothing further would be done anyway. I was not provided with alternative contact information for escalation despite requesting it. This experience raises concerns not only about testing accuracy, but also about adherence to proper health and safety protocols in an environment that handles blood and serves a high volume of donors. The people that work here is unorganized, and they do not communicate together as a team. Rather you're new or not please make two appointments for a backup appointment. The automated system may show up differently when you show up in person for your scheduled appointment. I've seen so many people get turned around expecting to come without an appointment but they advertise that you can do walk-ins no appointment needed that needs to be changed because it's not 100% accurate and it's not guaranteed. I saw a woman with her newborn expecting to come in being told something differently over the phone and then she show up in person and they told her she needed an appointment. I don't think this company should miss lead people. I'm not trying to bash anyone at this location, but I do feel that due to the high traffic and pressure of every day issues. I should have checked the reviews before coming to this place. If their employees make a mistake, somehow it's your fault I guess. Last time I donated, the nurse hooked up the IV wrong. She was in my vein but not correctly. She even had to call over a superior, who couldn't fix her problem. So go to my next appt & was told I am no longer allowed to donate. lol what?!!! Not w the 1st time I donated holy crap, they put the IV in horrible & blood was leaking out on the floor & chair the entire time. Have pics for proof. Donated for the first time recently! I will say, the process is somewhat long but as you have all the proper documentation the process moves swiftly. The nurse that helped me, Daniel was training a fellow nurse, and they were both very pleasant! The only reason i take away one star is that my phlebotomist did not anchor my line correctly resulting in some discomfort. This BioLife didn't even have a location uploaded to Yelp. I was in and out in 57 minutes. I wish it was always like that. The Michigan locations are always super quick. The employees seem to have more of a sense of urgency than the Arizona employees. The people I interacted with with friendly and helpful. They were quick but not in a rush. I wish the Mesa location in Arizona were more like the Michigan locations. read more

You watch some workers working hard to keep up with the people trying to donate and then one comes in and took a few min to find his visor and coat .. but it literally took 5 min to button his coat ... so utterly inefficient! I donated for my first month and the pay was good. Took a few months off and came back because of the constant emails telling me how I could make $550 a month to keep donating. Came back and donated , but after that first month was over it dropped to $115 for two donations, then $110 for two donations. Other people said they went down to $40 per donation. I felt like they were lowballing me for my plasma which is a really messed up way to make donors feel. They'll offer more to get you to come back than they will to keep healthy donors coming there. No thanks, go someplace else and get your $700+ for the first month. read more

I am always treated with dignity and respect at this donation center. the workers appear to be well trained and informed. The initial appointment takes about an hour. Donation appointments can be quick, depending on how many appointments are on the books that day. They are fully staffed in Livonia and the managers and nurses are there ready to advise and keep things going smoothly. I would recommend this business. read more

My original appointment was at 4. They called me to come in early because they over booked. I arrived at 1:45, was told to sit in a room and they would call me when ready. 2 hours later they move me to another chair, 30 minutes pass and they check my veins then move me to another spot. They checked my vitals then put me in another chair. Then someone took me in a room and tried to get me to reschedule because they were busy...... I said no, I have already been waiting for close to 3 hours. Answered their questions and then was told because my thyroid meds were changing in 2 weeks that I would not be qualified until I have a letter from my doctor that my meds have not changed for whatever period. So they wasted over 3 hours of my time INSTEAD of actually asking their questions in the beginning of the whole process. Complete waste of time. Maybe actually talk to new donors when they get there to see if they are even eligible. Honestly I think they did that on purpose because they are over worked with no help. All I heard the entire time was the employees complaining about their job and co workers.... Who is in charge? You seriously have a problem at this location. read more

Horrible service, incompetent and lazy staff. No point in making an appointment because if you're going there for the first time, it will take you 3 hours or more to be actually seen. Then if you have ptsd you'll have to get a sign off sheet signed and bring it back, another day and even then you'll be sent away again if one of their doctors isn't there. This place seems nice and everyone seems friendly but I made an apt to donate and they changed it without telling me so when I went in they tried to make me wait. As I'm waiting, I see 3 people come to the counter complaining that they missed their apt at 8:45 and need to get in cause they needed money. Telling the clerk to work her magic on the computer and they've done this before. Well I figured out why my apt was changed. I got there at 10am for a 10:10 apt. I signed up had no issues and on third visit had a hematoma on right arm vein. I have always been told I have great veins to poke from doctors etc. so use left arm next two sessions and on the sixth session the tech miss inserts the needle in left arm vein and wants to do the right arm. I told him in had a hematoma two weeks ago, he taps right vein anyways and after 1/4 of way of plasma process arm starts bleeding from needle and a large hematoma bump occurs. They pull the needle and no one knows what's going on. Nurse is called doesn't really do anything but say put ice on it. The tech starts taking my vitals and another tech says you don't need to do that. So they stop taking vitals. Wrap the arm and tell me to stay 30 minutes before I can leave. No one looked at my arm again. Everyone was clueless. Butchered me. read more

Absolutely horrendous experience. They'll turn you away for a multitude of reasons, but not before wasting hours of your time. Physical by the nurse (I've never heard of that before) felt unnecessarily invasive! (asking why I had blood work done) STAY AWAY! The techs clearly have very minimal training, and will leave a needle just dangling out of your arm. Luckily I had light veins for the one and only time I donated, since the person next to me was stabbed multiple times in different spots on his arm. If you were expecting any sort of pleasant interaction, forget about it! read more

I went there the first day they opened up and had a wonderful experience! Then my next visit was bad, I was given a hematoma by one girl sticking the needle in wrong. The next time I was given a hematoma by a manager. She didn't even care that I told her I didn't feel right. She just said there's air in the line pump it out. Then this short boy was taking the needle out but he wasn't holding it properly and ripped the needle out of my arm and it hurted. They downplayed my pain. My heart rate was high the first time, the 2nd time it was in range but he enter something wrong in the computer the first time so I had to see an nurse, even though it was range the 2nd time. They're absolutely awful!!! Today was my THIRD time trying to come into donate blood the first time they had so many people in the waiting room they told me they needed to reschedule ok, weird but ok. Second time the nurses were in a meeting and they had to reschedule again WEIRD that you would schedule appointments at the time that your nurses are in meetings but they gave me a card for an extra 20 my next appointment ok. The third time really has done it for me the second time I went in should've been my last but oh well I walk in and already it's super busy I sit in the waiting room for 50 minutes all the people who I was initislly in the room with left for their appointments. as im getting up to go ask how much longer magically a nurse has my name ticket and is ready to go she alreqdy looked like she was having a rough day so during my check in i tried being nice and keeping the mood upbeat once they asked me for my social security card though it all went downhill the nurse looked over at me and said I had failed my screening and claimed I was not allowed to donate and could not return to donate for the BIO Life company and then did not want to answer any of my questions as to why I could not because she was more interested in chatting with the other nurse next to us i tried interrupting their conversation but she then ignored me and then I tried one more time but she then looked at me and said "girl you failed the screening not much to talk about you can just go" so then after that i got up called the company phone and am waiting for a call back to resolve this unprofessionalism I would not recommend this place to anyone with a short temper or if you value your time. read more

I have been trying to get my first appointment on December 12, I could not donate that day because my pulse rate was one number over their guidelines. The tech said I could return the next day but the receptionist said I had to schedule for physical and no opening for almost three weeks. I returned at the end of December and the nurse gave me a physical. However, a policy of anyone over 55, need clearance for their doctor. They faxed the request to my doctor. Due to the holidays I couldn't get the clearance quickly and finally it was faxed over to the clinic on January 4th. I was told by the nurse that I could donate after that clearance is provided. However, I cannot because the system still says I need another physical. So far, I am frustrated. Have an appointment now tor the end of January because my file was not updated. They don't answer phone and messages go nowhere. read more

Run. BioLife has to offer higher incentives because it is a unprofessional, inaccurate, disorganized operation. I waited 4 1/2 hours, and didn't even donate blood. While waiting I was observing the staff and running of the operation. There was a new employee. His training consisted of coworkers laughing and saying in unison, 'see one, do one, teach one'. 'You're on your own. For about 45 minutes they kept calling out for a person with my same first name, and a last name that was the same as my street. I questioned this several times, only to be told, 'that's not possible, everything is verified'. When they realized their error they quietly covered it up. After 4 1/2 hours I meet with a rep that couldn't have been a nurse..... I am very healthy, physically fit, and my stats were in perfect range. I told the nurse my medical history consisted of a thyroid issue 34 years ago, and a scan in the same neck area about 9 years ago that was clear. This confused the nurse/rep (?) and she said she didn't know what to do, so was going to classify me as denied. I questioned this further. She said 'we right down what the patient tells us'. 'No, we don't check medical records'. 'If you want us to change something we've entered then you have to come back with medical records signed by your doctor'. WOW, so bottom line; lie about you health history, as they do not verify it. I think I dodged a bullet, and gladly left. Rating: ZERO out of 10 read more

Signed up and went yesterday to the Ypsilanti location I was not impressed. Had trouble finding my reservation found the person to be a little sirly. Wasted an hour there to be told Heart rate too high tried twice. Was told I could try again in the morning and maybe talk to a nurse. Where was the taking of my history I have had a Heart transplant I see my Cardiologist every 3 months with labs I am healthy or I wouldn't of come. Why not visit the nurse now ? Very difficult place to qualify for, unless you lie it seems. They do not tell you about preexisting conditions that disqualify you until after they have taken blood and your personal information. Additionally, they wanted a medical clearance from a 40-year-old minor head injury! People were lined up for the money, but not sure how many of them had the "perfect" health records they seem to require. read more
