With a critical shortage of blood seemingly looming all around us, I try to give as much as I am…read moreable to. Due to some health reasons, I had to take a hiatus from donating, so they respectfully suspended my contact information during that time. Upon being cleared to give again, they provided information on how to reactivate it. I have always been treated with respect and care by Vitalant staff. I have gone to the location to give several times, and absent one experience, I have always found the staff professional and easy to work with. My negative experience was surrounding a manager scolding an employee for a brief error, and the scolding was in front of me, thus causing the phlebotomist to be a little flustered. I was contacted and informed her of my view that this was unprofessional and disruptive, and she simply did not care. But aside from that one person, everyone else has been a joy to work with. Currently, due to a probable computer overheating issue, the building is closed because of a fire. Thankfully it was seen and no blood was lost. They are operating outside and in their mobile units. Most recently, i gave in one of their busses at work. Staff was easily able to handle the fluctuation of people, explained what they needed, the sticks were painless, and we were in and out with no issue. Please, if you are able to, be a donor. Some blood types have only a 1 day supply on the shelves... give life!

The staff is friendly and informative but they seem to not have a handle on others time. I usually go on my lunch break but they go slow and I have to wait 30 min after my appointment time before they called my name but at that point I had to leave because I would be late for work. So nice clean people but I have to go back to work!

They also ask a lot of medical history and sexual history questions. Things like you can't have a new piercing or tattoo from the last 12 months, and you must be at least 110 lbs. They pay you using a prepaid debit card. For first time donors, it's $50 for first visit and $75 for second. For return donors, it's $25 for first and $45 for second visit in a week. Also there is a $50 bonus if you donate 6 times in a month. The process was very easy and smooth, and there is Wi-Fi. I bought a tablet to pass the time. Only downside is the whole process takes 2 hours (maybe shorter if you're not a first time donors?)

The check-in process was the only part that went smoothly; wait time there was reasonable. After that, the quality of care fell apart. The room was not properly cleaned--there was visible blood on the floor and even on the sharps/needle disposal box, which is unacceptable for a medical facility. Our PA admitted to giving my sister only general pain medication despite watching her cry in severe pain. The staff member who first inserted the IV did it incorrectly, and while another nurse came in to fix it and administer medication, he said he'd be back in an hour--and never returned. We had to repeatedly request help and updates just to get my sister checked on. This level of care is far below what any patient deserves. The entire department needs serious improvement--cleanliness, attention to patients, and basic follow-through.

I have called and tried every option that their automated system allows but still never get any person to pick up the phone. I have even tried leaving a message for management. I am trying to make an appointment to donate plasma for the first time. I am at the point of wondering if they are even operating anymore. Pretty bad that the only review left more than one star is from someone who can't even get into the door to give a service review.

Once you get in the back everyone is nice and it's take less than 30 minutes. But when "red" is doing vitals get ready because you are gonna be waiting even if you scheduled an appointment and arrived 10 minutes early. Literally any other employee does vitals it takes maybe 2 minutes but lord when she's doing them its 10 minutes a person and she just has to talk to everyone about everything going on today, yesterday and tomorrow. Dont push for people to schedule appointments when they are never followed. For the love of god please stop putting the slowest woman doing vitals by herself.
