I've been wanting to try Famena's for the longest time since I started working downtown in October. Unfortunately the day I wanted to visit they were slapped with a health code violation and were shut down for almost 2 months. Famena's finally reopened in early December and I was able to grab lunch for takeout last Friday before the holidays. The number one item recommended by my coworkers was the ox tail, rice and peas. It used to only be available in selected days, but because of the pandemic the owners made it available everyday. The cost may seem a bit steep at $23, but it's worth it when you see the portion size. You'd have to be extremely hungry to finish the food off in one go...which I barely finished! The ox tail was extremely flavourful and juicy; I can definitely see where the hype is cause I've seriously never had food this filling and satisfying. Famena's is on Doordash during these tough times, but please, for the love of god, order from them directly. They deserve your support right now and are barely hanging on. I wanna try their roti next time, but moreover I really hope this place survives the pandemic cause I intend to be a regular here as much as I can and get to know the wonderful owners more.

It was around 8 pm when the boy got hungry and really wanted Thai food so we started searching for what was open. On a Tuesday lateish dinner night, unfortunately most options were closed until we luckily found this spot! Ended up trying the Tom Kha Soup - which was delicious, creamy with the coconut milk & plentiful with the veggies. Overall, the soup was great & came in a good portion. We also tried the Basil Fried rice with vegetables, and this was delicious as well. There were lots of veggies here but what I really liked was that the flavor of the rice was light but very tasty. Would recommend one to check this place out!

We had questions and he was patient and attentive. He answered our questions politely and cheerfully. The server was also earnest and brought out more water when we asked for more. The seafood pad Thai was tasty and very sweet. Maybe a little bit too sweet. I also wish there were a bit more shrimps in the dish. I love that the cashier asked us how spicy should he make the food. I said not spicy at all and my friend said 6 out of 10 spicyness level. The Thai ice tea was a bit too sugary. I got a sugar high from it lol. I would give this restaurant 5 stars but the inside of the building where we were seated had no air conditioning. A fan was all that was there. The outside air was colder than the inside of the restaurant were we were. We ended up sweating a bit. It was uncomfortable for my friend who was also eating a spicy meal. The inside decor of the restaurant wasn't super interesting but it was not shabby.

Instead of a salad, I got roasted lemon potatoes and rice pilaf, which came with warm pita bread and tzatziki. It was a good meal. Everything was hot and seemed freshly cooked. The chicken and potatoes had a bit of a bite, like a hot sauce or spice which I'm not used to when I have Greek food. The lemon on the potatoes didn't really come through. The rice was nice and fluffy. I'd get it again. Ally was the server. She was nice and friendly.

This place is also very unique and interesting because it serves African cuisine and Italian pasta dishes and pizzas. The price is pretty reasonable as well. I ate here on two different occasions and loved the meals each time! I got to try 2 different vegetarian dishes. The first time I came here I ordered "Foule." It's basically a big dish with Fava beans and vegetables, it comes with bread, butter and this delicious sour cream. It's my favorite dish at this restaurant. The second time I visited which was today I picked "Special Fata" to try. I don't usually like spicy stuff but I was hungry and I felt like being brave. This meal is very well crafted. It is spicy but the yogurt that comes with it neutralizes the spicy-ness. I added some salt to the spicy bread and it was pretty exquisite, my tastebuds were happy. I highly recommend Winnipegers and others to be adventurous. Come here and try this cuisine! For those less brave there is always pasta and pizza too.
